The first thing you will note is that this restaurant had the name "booga" in it. The experience doesn't get a lot better from there. Food didn't taste fresh to me, which could have been an incorrect read of some major "gringoization" of the food. Salsa was tasty, but it seemed bottled. It wasn't spicy, but it was free. The main meal of a burrito was very underwhelming. My companions were equally unimpressed. The staff was nice and refilled drinks quickly. The decor is pretty basic. All in all, this is a place for locals and not a place I would recommend for all but the most famished of travelers. There are better places almost a literal stone's throw away. Still, I didn't get sick and it still wasn't the worst food I've ever had, so I gave it a 2.5 star. Meh is right. read more

Holy shit! That was amazing. Buddy and I road trippin the west https://operation-funcut.com/ and stayed across the street. I had the taco salad, beans on the side, no tomatoes, and green chile on the side. He had Ortega burger with meat,cheese, bacon, chile. After I mixed mine up and added some salsa Holy shit! Stopped in for breakfast before continuing on our road trip and was thoroughly impressed with the food and service! From the looks of it, it's just another small town diner. But the staff was wonderful and quick! I had the eggs breakfast and a side of blueberry cakes. I was not prepared for the amount of food we had all received! I highly recommend going! Breakfast was amazing. Fair price for what I got. I had the Huevos Rancheros. The tortilla was full with tinga chicken and refried beans. Smothered in green chili sauce and cheese, with scrambled on top. A side of hash browns finished the plate. It was a wonderful flavor combination. Dinner was tops too. A chili rellano with rice and beans and a tostada on the side. The rellano was a perfect poblano pepper filled with cheese and battered and fried. Yuck. We ordered food to go since we are staying across the street at Reeds. We ordered the 8 layer burrito and the chile cheese burrito based on pictures here that looked amazing. The burrito was tiny, which wouldn't have been a big deal if it were in the least bit tasty. The beef in the burrito literally tasted as if it had been browned without a single seasoning. 50% of the burrito was lettuce. It was terrible all the way around. The green chile fries were not any better, although the portion was much bigger. For those two things and a very small side of sour cream it was $25. I'm not even sure how it ended up being that much, but oh well. The wait staff/hostesses left a lot to be desired in the friendliness department, too. Maybe I'm so accustomed to the delicious Mexican restaurants in Tucson that I expected too much. read more

Don't let the scary name fool you (we passed by in the morning and I remembered it as "The Red Booger" - oops). The food was good, the service was a bit slow but friendly, and the prices weren't horrible. The food took a while to get there so we wound up with two complimentary bowls of chips and salsa, standard stuff but very welcome after a long day of hiking! I had grilled cod tacos and hubs had shrimp, both were very tasty. I am glad there were distanced tables available in the side dining room, because the main room didn't seem to be distancing at all. There was a big bottle of hand sanitizer available as you walked in, but several different people served us, without masks, and one kept leaning in and breathing on me . This is our go-to place to eat after a day fishing, hiking or exploring in eastern Arizona. The food is excellent with plenty of options for hungry kids and adults alike. The menu includes a delicious green chili which is excellent on its own or as a burrito. My personal favorite is the green chili burger with sweet potatoes fries. Service is quick and the staff are always eager to make us feel at home with smiles on their faces. read more

Definitely not short staffed but service was horrible. Arrived at 10:30am. Staff was to busy playing in the Cantina. Another was busy carrying their baby around, including into the bar. Wait staff was severely inattentive and inept. Food was good but getting it the table was almost insurmountable. Finally had to ask management to intervene. We stopped here on a camping roadtrip. We weren't expecting much but were too hungry to wait until we could cook. I was impressed when we walked in, most of the finishes and furniture looked new and the guy who working (there was only one, it was 2:30 on a weekday in a small town) was very nice, not creepily so - just easy going and friendly. I was super impressed with him. The hot sauce and chips were homemade and really good (I was trying to figure out what all was in the hot sauce so I could make it at home) and other other food was pretty good as well. We were in Greer for the weekend and ventured to Springerville for dinner one night. There wasn't a whole lot to choose from restaurant wise but all of the locals told us that Booga Red's was the place to go! The food was ok, but the service was definitely 5 stars!!! They were SO nice and accommodating. I ordered the chicken club and it had a ton of avocado which won my heart right off of the bat! It came with the wavy fries that you can buy in the freezer section at the grocery store which was kind of eh, but hey, I must admit that I love ANY kind of fries! My fiance had the meatloaf special and said that it was decent. I did LOVE their ranch! :) Thank you for the excellent service, Booga Red's! It was a pleasure dining with you. Really enjoyed having dinner in the Cantina at Booga Reds. They have a good selection of beers on tap, including 805, as well as bottles on ice, plus a full bar. The barkeep was friendly and efficient. The sirloin was a little tough but tasty and their salad was fresh. I did a combo of a green corn tamale, cheese enchilada, both smothered in amazing green sauce, with a grilled veggie taco, rice, beans and guacamole. The entire combo was excellent. Booga Red's is a decent place to go. Have I loved everything I have ever had there? No. But I enjoy their food and their great margaritas enough to go back. If you get a chance swing by in the morning and have the breakfast with the tamale with an egg over it... that is fantastic. Friendly service. Food was good but didn't blow our minds. It's a mix of American and southwestern (Mexican influenced) dishes. We had the southwestern dishes. Tried the tamales, enchilada and tacos. Great hometown family restaurant, friendly staff, fast service. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Full menu, everything from a full steak dinner to hamburgers and kid meals, also a full variety of Mexican dishes all at reasonable prices. My favorite breakfast is the Booga Reds special, this is a sausage and cheese enchilada covered with a red or green sauce topped off with two eggs served with hash browns. The restaurant is frequented by the local residents, ranchers, and cowboys - which is good enough for me!! I never fail to have breakfast or lunch there when in town and never had a bad meal. read more
