The storeowners are always friendly and helpful--they even let you trade your opened blindbox if they have a sample open. This makes buying them much more stomachable. The assortment and variety changes all the time--one week i may stop by and not find anything tickling my fancy, another week I may drop by and find too many things I want to take home! You can sometimes call in on days they're closed to ask if you can visit upon appointment (they may be restocking, etc) and can accommodate if conditions are right, which I thought was a nice touch. There's a small section in the store that has seating so you can open your new toys on the spot and celebrate with glee or the gloom of disappointment if you don't get your favorite. The store is not huge nor tiny and so you could spend anywhere from 15-30 minutes looking at everything. There's generally much variety, but stock can be limited. They offer cheaper blindboxes realistically starting at $6 (cheapest I've noticed), to more expensive artisan collabs (up in the hundreds). So great place to take yourself on a date or pick out a gift for a friend healing their inner child. If you like this place, there's a Japanese stationary store right down the street too--I like to hit up the toy store and then take a stroll down the street to giddy myself up with more goodies as well over at Yoseka Stationary. Overall--I think this place beats out all the others when it comes to their variations and assortment of blindboxes, and the constantly rotating stock of what's in and available (more than just smiskis, sonny angels, labubus, hironos, popmart, etc).

I feel the prices were very reasonable, even though I saw some comments about people saying the books are overpriced. No one bothered us when we spent quite a while looking through the various shelves and it felt like a very calm environment in a busy city. Left with a few books so the trip was a hit.

Buying and Selling at Book Off What a cool store. So much to…read moresee. Unfortunately, it is lousy to sell at and expensive to buy at. First, Selling. I brought in three statue items unopened in the original packaging. I checked on ebay for what the items sold for (not asking price but sold price) and it added up to about $600, I lugged the items over there and had to leave them there because they wouldn't get to them right away. The people/kids working there were very nice. I went to have lunch and got the text to return, and they are offering $150. So I picked up the items and turned down the offer. Again, they were very nice, it's just I wasn't willing to accept 25% of the value. I figured at worst it would be 50%. But I am better off getting closer to the actual price on ebay. Now, Buying. Lots of very expensive and exiting things to get, and I didn't have time to price check things so much, but my son is into the Nintendo switch and i spotted a used Marvel VS Capcom game he might like. It was $34.95. But just in case, I pulled up Amazon and looked the game up. A brand new one costs $21.79. So it would have been a terrible idea for me to buy it there. I guess if you are leaving work and need a quick gift, you might stop in and pay too much for an item. If you are in real trouble and don't have time to wait for an Ebay sale, you might consider selling your collectables for 25% the value, this place might come in handy.

I came here with my daughter and we ended up buying Barbie stickers so I was really happy that they were in stock. Service was really friendly! It was rainy when I came in and they helped me with my stroller. I would definitely recommend peruse through their comic books selection. New York Comics has just opened their doors in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn and it's just what this section…read moreof the neighborhood needed. Truth be told there are not many comics and collectible shops in Bay Ridge so a brand-new one is a welcome addition. They're located off of the main avenue thoroughfare on 79th and while the store itself is small, they are very well-stocked. As you walk in you see plenty of different lines of action figures and both recent and older back issue boxes of comic books from numerous companies. They also have some racks of cars, and higher priced books and slabbed editions are up on higher shelves. As it was opening day, there was candy everywhere to give you a sugar rush. They also had a wheel that you could spin with every purchase and there were some truly amazing prizes to be had. On the wheel I saw discounts on next purchase, back issues from assorted boxes and more. My purchase was a "Marvel Legends" action figure that I had been looking for and when I got to spin the wheel I won a slabbed "Batman" Annual #2. Oh yeah and for those who don't know the term, a "slabbed" edition means that the comic is in a sealed and graded plastic container and no longer readable. Having never owned one before I thought this was rather cool. My visit was shortly after lunch so it was rather crowded based on their doing opening day stuff and I was happy to see this being the case since I've known one of the owners for a couple of years. They are not even two minutes away from Skinflints which is another favorite of mine and if you're heading there you can pop into New York Comics afterwards. It's important to know that there are no new comics being sold at the store at this time but who knows if they change that practice at some point going forward. They wouldn't need to stock everything but with the recent relaunch of "Batman" selling a half million copies that's not a bad idea. I know I'll be popping in from time to time to see what's new and exciting and I hope that they will begin stocking some of the collected editions as well since I like those every once in awhile. The store is very spacious and well stocked. They have all the recently popular anime and video game stuff from plushies to keychains. They also sell a little bit of snacks. It really brings me back to my childhood days where I have to beg my mom takes me to a hobby shop and it would look just like this. I honestly prefer shops like these over Book Off and Kinokuniya. I was able to control myself and not buy anything so if you're an impulsive buyer it might not be so easy.
