There is a senior team member that seems really not happy to work there but I understand it's a ton of stuff. The value is half and half. It's becoming rare to find a place to buy used books, much less pop culture toys and other media. In fact, none of the local used bookstores even purchase books, they accept donations or offer a trade value. This is an option, too, if you sell here. I've sold three rounds of books to date. They don't take everything, that's a given, although in a few cases I brought rejected books back to see if a different buyer would take them. The ones that failed this experiment are minty newish, but I wondered if there was a bias at play (e.g. the books were an Arabic perspective of the crusades)? Nevertheless, be sure the books are clean, have dust jackets, no outward nudity on the cover, and so on. As for records, DVDs, Funco Pop toys and things, prices offered are based on rarity and a look around the store at the resale prices can provide some insights. If you research your stuff in advance, perhaps you can do better selling on ebay? But, if that's too much trouble, try to negotiate. You'll be given the choice of cash or credit, or take it back. Depending on how busy they are, it can be a 15-30 minute wait. I just go next door to Mr. You and have a quick meal, they'll text you when they finish examining the stuff. The 1 star is for the ridiculous price for a store that sell second hand goods. Find a model kit "Liber Fighter 30 MF" cost $40 buck when you can get a brand new one for around $25. This is the official Bandai store price and they still sale it. Ask the staff is the price tag correct and can it be fix. Unfortunately they said they can't. So whoever is in charge of that is at fault. Either manager or the company itself. Everything that is not book or dvd/cd cost way to much. Don't bother. read more

I came in the other day during a recent visit with my niece who attends UCR.  Before dinner, I popped in here to check out their selection.  The first thing I noticed was the place was both huge AND very organized, with the aisles clearly named and the stock neatly arranged on their shelves.  While I walked by the toy and media aisles, I was mainly there to check out the Funko Pops and books. Hunting for Funkos is always a chore, as the shelves at most retail locations are deep enough to put 2-3 Funkos.  If you have time to really look through the stock, that does take a ton of effort.  In addition to the items on the shelves (and the few higher priced items behind locked cabinets), there are also Pops in the drawers at the bottom of the shelves, easily 4 deep.  I didn't go through all of the stock, though I did find a few higher priced items that could have been locked away (including a Kevin Durant as a Warrior, a gem find in SoCal, which I sadly put back on the shelf). Most of my time was spent looking through all the books.  Those shelves are neatly arranged by genre, then alphabetically by author.  Prices are clearly listed on the cover, and overstock is stored in the drawers below the shelves (mainly duplicates).  There are also Clearance sections where each item is only $1.00.  But the most regular books are prices between $2 - $7.   After a good 45 minutes, I ended up picking up 1 Funko Pop and 5 books (2 on Clearance), paying $25 total after tax.  All in all, a very good visit.  I will be sure to visit the other locations when I'm in those areas. read more

The prices on the books that I am into are amazing! However, when I asked for help in finding something (books are placed randomly for the most part). The lady didn't seem like she wanted to help and was kind of rude. Don't bring your items here to sell. I brought in two big a** tubs full of books. New and taken care of lightly used books. I only got $60, then I find my books on the shelves. Each priced at $5-$10, they took every single one of them except for one book. And you only get $.10 for K-pop albums. This place is awesome! Upon arriving, you won't have an issue finding parking; that's always nice. First impressions are everything. When I arrived, I was greeted by two employees. It's a cute and calm atmosphere. This place can be overwhelming; so come ready knowing what you're looking for. If you're coming to browse; you're going to be here for a very long time. It's not just books - there's video games from U.S to JAP titles and various platforms. There's statues, figures, CDs, DVD's, Blu-ray's ... the list goes on and on. I actually came specifically to sell my items. I was hesitant upon reading a lot of the reviews because places like these do have the tendency to lowball. I brought in roughly 90-100 video games mainly for the PS2. They were all on the lower end titles, 30 titles ranging from $10-20. I also brought some figures as well. They offered me $376.52 for all my games, which made sense for me. You have to know what you have and be realistic as well. They have a small wall full of Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh! cards which is awesome. They're mostly commons priced at $1; which honestly is very expensive. They also don't buy trading cards so keep that in mind. Speaking of expensive, pricing is generally more expensive than what you'll see on EBAY snd other competitors. I saw a few higher ticket games that were price between $10-30 over the market price. Which is one of the reasons I can't give it 5 stars. Don't let that steer you off, because you can find some affordable items - just have to do some digging. It's a great experience here. A lot of variety. I appreciate stores like this. I decided to give this place another chance, and I'm honestly glad I did because it felt like a completely different experience than last time. The staff were noticeably friendlier and more welcoming. I was greeted right away at the door even though they were clearly busy, which immediately set a much better tone. Prices also seem to have come down since my last visit, which is always a pleasant surprise. My wallet definitely noticed in a good way for once, which is rare enough to be worth mentioning on its own. The store itself was much cleaner and less cluttered. Everything felt more organized and easier to browse without that overwhelming "I might need a map and snacks to survive this shopping trip" feeling. Overall the vibe is just a lot better. Whatever changed, new staff or new management, it clearly worked. I'm definitely more inclined to come back, and I even made a fairly solid purchase today to show support. My wallet is giving me the silent treatment, but I'm choosing to interpret that as character development. read more

If you're selling Funko pops and expect to get fair value for them look somewhere else. I know these particular collectibles are experiencing a downturn but they'll offer you a dollar and some change for some exclusives, chases and shared exclusives which is insane. While it might take more time and effort to sell you will easily make triple selling of marketplace or Mercari. read more

Extremely powerful Book Off, surprisingly more so than the ones that I've gone to in Costa Mesa and the Gardena/Torrance area, but I guess not so surprising considering those locations are probably mined to death by the local weeaboos and incoming weebs from other areas tryna get some good Japanese food. My review is basically only that of an anime fan/merch collector. Upon walking in, I immediately saw some Arcueid (Tsukihime) tapestries that I've seen elsewhere going for $60+ and were only $12-ish dollars here. Scooped those up immediately. I got the FGO Chaldea Karuta set for around $20 where I've seen people sell $40 for only 2 cards of the set and a Natsume Yuujinchou postcard set that was limited to an event exhibition. My rarest find was an Arcueid & Saber poster set from 2010 from the doujin circle Crazy Clover Club, WAY TOO LUCKY finding it here for the price that I did. Also got some clear files for around $7, not so bad since there were some for some much rarer series (found one with all the nitro chiral + male leads lol) and not just the dumped ichiban kuji dupes for unpopular characters. There's lots of older series (found a 2010 rare calendar for K-ON, Fate Lyrical Girl Nanoha, etc) and lots of idol stuff for IdolM@ster, Love Live (unsure if the individual rage quit from the worldwide version closing or just made the natural shift towards Bang Dream or towards Vtubers in general), Idolish7, A3!, B Project, etc. Also lots of Touken Ranbu and KanColle. Interesting to see but slightly heart breaking since it's a LOT of rare items that you can easily tell came from one otaku collector and for SURE they spent thousands of dollars and went through a lot of effort to get them, but idk if they really made any money exchanging it at Book Off instead of selling at an anicon swap meet, etc. I can only imagine they'd either move on (sad), forced to become a normie cuz of their spouse/having a kid (even sadder), or died (acceptable by my standards). Anyways, enough with that aside. Neat stuff to sift through, surprised to find things that interested me (so that mean's it's not all normie/casual stuff), and got some good buys too. If you're a normie or casual, there's LOTS of shonen stuff here for sure, like Dragon Ball, MHA, and way, way too much Demon Slayer and JJK. Though my only qualms are that some of the figure prices were WAY too overpriced, even more so since brand new versions of those figures at MSRP are anywhere from $10-40 cheaper than what I've seen here and the fact that Book Off is a secondhand store. I saw an Ishtar chain figure that is at Tokyo Central and other Japanese markets for like $12 new, but went over for more than twice the price here. Another issue that I have, not just this location, but Book Off's in general, especially at anime cons, is that their key chain strap, can badge, and smaller figure merch is NEVER organized in any way perceivable. So unless I take some Adderall beforehand, it's impossible to sift through. They have a lot of posters, tapestries, playmats, etc. that are rolled up without the design showing and no way of knowing what the item even is and bunches of blind boxes (that have been open by the previous owner) that have been resealed. I feel like if it's second hand, at that point just let people know what they're buying (circle it on the product box maybe? or just take a picture of the rolled up item and place it on the packaging outside, or even a catalog with that stuff printed on it). I'm just saying whatever works best for this since no one is feasibly going to buy something they're not even sure what it is. TLDR; great Book Off stop for anime fans for sure! Especially if you're in the area. read more

I've been to another Bookoff in LA so I knew what I was getting into when I visited this story previously. My first visit I left empty handed but the second visit I spend some cash on picking up several used K-pop albums as a way to sample different artists as I don't use music streaming services. The prices were beyond fair and I was surprised by some of the variety of K-Pop albums there. I will come back again, maybe to get rid of some things as well as to look for some more albums and maybe movies. Also, there's no pressure to leave quickly or feel rushed when I go solo there. And it feels bigger than the other Bookoff store I've been to, but then again, stores seems to be bigger outside the smaller plazas in LA. read more

Great place to buy certain things but terrible place to sell to. My son wanted to sell some of his collection items to make extra cash, he collects movies and pops. So we took 14 movies mostly some like new but used probably once or twice. They only accepted 8 of them. Took 3 pops 2 without protectors and 1 with all in like new conditions. He also took 2 Jumbo Pops still in their original shipping boxes. Last but not least he took 3 Movie Steel Books that were not in the wrapper but were definitely new and unused and they were originally selling for $25-40$ a pop. You can just tell by how perfectly clean they are that they were new and never used with absolutely 0 damage, unlike the steel books they have selling for $15-$25 scuffed or dinged up. Our offer for all of these items was $8.35! WTH?? These guys are selling movies in way worse conditions and steel books in rough shape for way more than that and that's just for 1 item. The audacity to offer $0.46 per item, I know for a damn fact those steel books alone would have been placed up for sale for easily $20 a piece minimum the same day. I had better hopes for this place and was excited my son had found a place like this where he could have bought and traded more often at. But damn how the hell do they even acquire anything with that type of valuation for peoples things? Idk but all I know is I would never recommend selling to this shop. All I can say that's good is how kind everyone who works there is and how fast they work as well as the prices on some books and movies. read more

BookOff stores are always my go to stops when I'm in Japan so I was so excited to have one here in the state and local to me... however whoever is doing the pricing is insane. There is things that are in stock down the street at target for cheap cheaper. I get the store has to make some kind of profit, but it's becoming laughable. As a lover of book, I am always excited to discover when a new bookstore is opening, especially a discount bookstore. Upon entering the store, we were warmly welcomed by store staff. The store is bright, has a nice layout, book topics are clearly labeled. I liked the ability to browse the shelves with little employee interaction if you want and hubby was very excited to find a large picture book section which is helpful since he is a preschool teacher. I loved the variety of items available for sale including books, action figures, Japanese products, video games, audiobooks, music CDs, DVDs, Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh trading, and various ares with books for $2.00. The grand opening of this Book Off's newest location was delayed a few weeks. I assume for stocking and set up. The end result was worth it as the store looks fantastic. Everything is pristine with clean labeling both on the shelves and overhead. Very smart to have metal cabinets so magnets can be used for quick floor layout changes. The store is easy to navigate the various sections to find what you are looking for. So many DVDs (movies and tv shows), books, figurines, and video games. It was nuts to see retro Nintendo and Sega video game consoles and cartridges. I was warmly greeted as I entered the store. There are lot of workers wandering the aisles ready to assist customers. They do share a large parking lot with the neighboring businesses but they do have three dedicated parking spots in the front of the store. Book Off is tucked into the corner next door to Mr You Express Chinese. I could spend hours looking through the discount section of books. read more

I was interested in some books and a dvd but I thought they were overpriced. I didn't buy anything on this trip but I enjoyed browsing in peace. Lots of variety of used books, DVDs, bobble-heads, older action figures, dolls of all sorts (think Stephen King's IT, Anime of all sorts, and other such types). It was almost like visiting a museum in some ways, as there was plenty to see that you would likely not see elsewhere. Very cool had a ton of comics and they were all only 1 dollar. Thousands of CDs and DVDs. The service here is very good. They are very nice. They have video games for old nintendo consoles, Playstation 3, 4, and 5. They also have XBOX games for the first ever xbox and a lot of other things. I highly recommend going here. read more

Big toy store for books, DVD, CD, records. Bought a DVD after driving a long distance to get there, and it didn't work. Took me a couple weeks to get back there and they wouldn't make it right. I haven't got the bill yet and may contest part of it. Apparently paying cash there is not a good idea. Most of the movies are cheaper on Amazon. They have selection in book shelves and another in the drawers underneath, couldn't get much help looking for a specific movie, despite having computers, not very professional. I was the only one in the store and if the 4 people I seen working seems like there should have been some help. read more

So took in some books had a good relationship with this store so i thought. The last few times i felt like they were low balling me. They had a promogoing on for mario games turned in 5 game for 1.75 get there they offered me $.10 becauae they had to send it in tp get cleaned which ive seen how they do in store. Today i took in a few great hard back books for $6.50. I got in contact with customer survice and this is what i got. Not only was there no professional answer i was eventually ignored. I have no problem taking my merchandise somewhere else but how shitty of them to act this way. I hope this reaches people and put up the good fight. I went to the store for the first time ever and I brought a bunch of Funko pop figures and a couple comic books to sell. While waiting for my items, I browsed through the store and was amazed with their selection of manga, anime figures, Funko pops, books, and music. They gave me a very fair price for my items, and I was very happy with the price they gave me. The staff was super friendly and helpful since I was a first time visitor and seller.
