Was sitting on this review but I think it's time. Three Fridays ago I went to Barnes and waited in line behind three people. Got to the front of the line and asked very politely and calmly "do you have any Pokémon cards?" I was on a time crunch and trying to get a birthday present for my nephew before meeting them for dinner. The cashiers response was "I have to let the line die down before I can even check." I was very confused by this statement because as a customer myself, I waited in a line to even ask the question. There were other cards behind her, and I was confused as to why she couldn't turn around or look down. But I said okay no problem. I stepped off to the side and watched her help three people. People were still filing in and I had no problem. Then a woman who looked like a manager walked behind the cash register to break change, she asked the cashier what I was doing. They then started to whisper but I could hear the word "Pokémon" very clearly. The manager out loud goes oh no. Don't open the box. We don't open boxes until the weekend or Monday nights and then they both just stared at me. Feeling extremely uncomfortable and choosing to take the higher road (also on a time crunch) I left. Thanks for nothing :-) I too was a customer who waited in a line and will not support this business. I can't feel bad for brick and mortar book stores that end up closing due to choosing to lose business. read more

I hate the bathrooms here. The gap in the women's restrooms stalls is so large there is literally no privacy to poop or change your pads and tampons. Just take the door off the stall at this point. read more

Going in today my boyfriend was looking for a specific movie/release that he's had absolutely no luck finding. After looking through the store one of the employees named Tyler looked into if the store sold it at one point. And they did, but wasn't a movie they keep in stock, he looked through the system and called stores to see if they had any. Then ended up getting lucky and finding the only one, he asked the other store to put it on hold till we could get over there, giving name and phone number. Came for the free Lego building event May2. The event was really organized and they even allowed walk ins if people that reserved didn't show up within 15 minutes of the start. They had tables set up with coloring pages for kids and certificates at the end which was a really nice touch. You do have to build the set in the store. The set had a moving bee part which was really cool. The event ran through 7-9pm. Looking forward to more of the Lego building events! read more

This Barnes & Noble by Tyler Mall is like a time capsule from 2005 and I'm obsessed. The Starbucks inside is kinda limited menu-wise, but who cares because they randomly have more bakery snacks and food anyway. I'll grab a coffee, wander the aisles for way too long. It's cozy, a little nostalgic, and honestly the staff is always super sweet. Easily my favorite spot in Riverside to waste a perfectly good afternoon. read more

The baristas at this specific location are ridiculously slow. There was one person in front of me and I waited 15 MINUTES for them to take my order. ONE person was ahead of me in line and it took the barista 15 minutes to make their drink and get back to me. It then took this barista 10 minutes to make my drink. All I ordered was a simple iced latte. This wasn't my first time having this experience, and that's why I decided to leave a review because something has to seriously change. I bet that if I were to walk to Tyler Mall and order from the Starbucks there, I'd come back before the barista here were to even greet me from how much they dilly dallying they do behind that counter. read more

(Monga Korean comics or stories not sure) She now always wants to stop at Barnes and Noble, which is fine by me because this is an awesome location. They have an in house coffee shop with seating. (Glad to see its back open). I feel they have a wide variety of books, writing materials and the coolest little gadgets. The staff is always super friendly and the store is nice and big. While I type this I am currently waiting in line for the 2nd time. I walk into the store at about 7:40pm on Friday 02/07/25 and after searching for the Graphic novel I was looking for I could not find it so of course I went to a worker for help and he directed me to the front which it was there. So I went and the lady was not the most professional but it supposed to be fast so I didn't much care. I asked for what I wanted and she said it's in the back and while I waited because she radioed someone else to get it. The other employee came back with the novel and then "Blaire" the employee up front told us to get to the back of the line (which was not short) when we already waited and currently was waiting for THEM to even get it. Having to restart the line twice making us wait three separate times because they did not put it out when it was delivered. Both times being the line was a 20 minute wait. Why make customer restart the line when we were waiting for YOUR team to do their job!? Only real good thing that happened was that I did get my novel. Which is why it's not a 1 star review. read more

This is a great bookstore. I don't really read as much anymore. But I used to be into reading vampire and sci-fi/ fantasy books about fairies, werewolves and any mythical creatures. I never spent much time reading at book stores though. I would typically find books and take them home to read. Or sometimes I would just meet friends here for coffee and to socialize. There are some nice places to sit and visit with friends. If you get lucky, there will be one of the couches available to sit on. They also have fun games and cards and things too. Some Barnes & Noble Bookstores have a music section with CD's and stuff. It's not as popular anymore now that people don't really use CD's or disks lol Anyway, this is a clean location and staff seem to be friendly and professional. read more

Last week I went to the Riverside Barnes & Noble. It isn't as good a store as it used to be. Worse yet, going there recently caused me to be very, very upset and hurt me badly! I used to find more books that I liked there. Now, I don't. My daughters were at least able to find some books they wanted. But worse yet, B&N's employees shredded my visa card-for my protection! I was sick the day I went there and my energetic daughters were distracting me. They were just being silly. So, somehow the woman at the register didn't make sure that I had my visa card when I left her at the cash register counter. I used to work at a register and I was always looking out for the customers. Surely, she must have noticed my debit card was still there on her small spaced counter! But, no, the policy was just to shred! Thus, Barnes & Noble shredded my only visa card! For my protection of course! Does B& hire such untrustworthy employees that they couldn't trust them to lock my card up until I could get there? As a former cashier, I'd have gone after my customer or at least called to them loudly to wait saying, "Ma'am, you forgot your card!" That didn't happen. They didn't even call me first with the phone number in their data base for Premium Members, of which I am one! No, they just shredded it. Corporate Policy? Or just the policy of a bad store manger. The Number One concern that is important in all retail sales is the CUSTOMER! That protects your bottom line! A simple phone call would have saved me countless miseries. But, no one called me first so I ended up in a world of hurt. I had to cancel some autopay for bill payments. I had to avoid things I was planning to purchase for myself and my children. Many places I will have to call that have my card number in file. I had a big problem at a card-only less-cost gas pump that I go to for cheaper gas. Also, I had to go to my financial institution. After waiting in a time-consuming line, I found out that my CR had to have a new card created with a new number and mailed it to me. I'm still waiting for it! A B&N employee apologized for what she called my "inconvenience" (Wow! Was that an understatement!) and offered me a 15% discount on future purchases at their Riverside store. Unfortunately, I'm fearful of going into that store again! If I suddenly had a heart attack in that store and the ambulance drivers forgot to take my purse with them, due to the B&N policy, the employees would probably have to shred every card in my purse-for my protection! read more

If you're looking for a book store to browse freely with out being bothered this is your store! Now mind you I mean this statement in the upmost positive light. Lots of employee roaming around, and in less you make direct eye contact they kind of just let you be. Selection is ok not stellar but for Riverside ya it's on point. I bought 3 albums on this trip and I compared prices via Amazon 1 album was way cheaper and other two a few bucks more than Amazon. read more

My experience is always enjoyable when I come here, I love browsing through all the genres of books when I have nothing in mind and just picking up whatever catches my attention. The staff are always soo kind and helpful whenever I do need a specific book. This B&N location is my favorite for some reason I think because it's always looks so clean and inviting. However, I've noticed the past few times I've been here, both by myself & with someone else - I've been approached by a man who seem to be interested in whatever book I'm holding in the moment, then they follow up with personal questions. (They always use the same conversation prompt) They then introduce you to their business, and explain they want to help people achieve financial stability just like they have. The very first time I did fall for it and exchanged my number (I was in the moment and didn't know how to say no) which then they text you later and ask to meet at a Starbucks nearby to discuss into more details. I then told my mom about it and she told me it seemed suspicious, then I looked further into it, and the man even recommended me a book that's a common read for MLM, pyramid schemes. Anyways this almost happened to me again today & I witnessed another girl there get into the same situation. So just keep this in mind & stay cautious if you don't like being recruited while browsing for books and minding your business. read more

I've come to this Barnes and Noble for over 20 years. I try to support brick and mortar stores as much as possible - especially book stores, since it is so easy to order online or via an electronic format. So I try to spend my money in-store to do my part to keep the stores alive. However, I've finally had it with the employees at this Barnes and Noble. They are rude. Clueless. Non-existent. Today, I waited for quite a while at the help counter--no big deal, everyone is short staffed these days--and finally a young man with a name badge walked by, so I said "excuse me, quick question" and he very rudely said "I'm on my lunch break. If you need help, go to the front counter." Never looked up at me, never even acknowledged me, etc. I totally get being on a lunch break (maybe try taking off your name tag while on the floor then?), but it was the incredibly rude way he said it - and his annoyance that I had dared to bother him with a question, that really gets me. He could easily have relayed the same information without being a jerk about it. Anyhow - after a series of unhelpful, disinterested employees, this last guy just kind of sealed the deal for me. I've been a BN member for as long as I can remember - but honestly, Amazon is more convenient, cheaper, and I don't have to deal with rude customer service in an attempt to spend my money. read more

I love coming to Barnes and Nobles. Something about the fresh scent of books lol. They have a wide selection of books I feel like I can spend the whole day there. If there's something you can't find that you're looking for in particular, the reps will help you order it and it will get sent directly to your home. It's usually super quick too, I ordered a book and I ended up getting it in 2-3 days. Every time I have been to this location the workers have been so helpful. They do have tables for you to sit at and enjoy some coffee if you'd like. My laptop was dying one time and I really needed to charge it because of something for work but they don't really have any outlets. They had one (that I can find) in the whole store lol so I got lucky! No biggie though most people don't go there to work. Every time I come here I end up spending more than I expected to! On top of having a wide selection of books they have so much cute stuff! Notebooks, pens, bookmarks, gifts, etc. I love stopping in every time I pass by any Barnes and Nobles. A lot of things have gone electronic I'm so glad they're still here. read more

On the receipt it says you can get store credit within 60 days if you have a gift receipt. Called ahead of time because couldn't find the gift receipt but I had the original receipt. A gentleman answered when I called and said it was fine. Drove there and the lady said 30 days they refused to give it. The lady kept saying it was 30 days. Very frustrating I called other Barnes and noble and they said a regular receipt is fine but they would only do store credit as long as it was within the 60 days but don't want to drive all that way and have them trick me again. They should be consistent with all the information their employees give out. read more

Honestly it's a perfectly good bookstore. Some things they can improve on is direction. You really have to search for the genre you are looking for, there's not really any good direction. But my favorite section is their kids section. My kids love books especially at bedtime. So to find a multitude of variety and classics is a huge bonus. Lots of good toys too surprisingly. They do have a help center in the middle to help order or locate books. They have a nice reading area for those who want to sit and read. And a nice cafe. They are close to Starbucks and Cheesecake Factory so they have a nice variety of drinks and food. My only strife with this place and it hold back from a 5 star is their bathroom. Every time in it's disgusting. I hate when I have to go in. Really dirty like it never gets cleaned. Other than that, love this place. read more

In a world of mostly digital books, yes, there still is a place for a big book store. We discovered some great entertainment for our two year old grandson here. The Children's Section is the perfect place to visit for a no-cost activity for the little ones. And if you are lucky, there are scheduled story times with little people seating around a little stage. We didn't last long there, however. Their choices were a bit advanced for our little guy. We discovered B&N has a small play area set aside for building stuff and playing with a little train set on a table top. Just the right height, the train table is complete with tracks, and buildings, tunnels and bridges. And nearly destruction proof. This was just up Drew's alley. I had no idea this could keep a little boy so entertained for well over an hour. Who says attention spans are short at that age? And of course, Gramma bought some great books for bedtime too. Terrible customer service at the front. Only 1 cashier at the front. I asked the cashier, Krys, if there are no other cashiers who can come up front. Reply was that corporate does not allow her to call for another cashier unless there are more than 10 people in line. There were close to 20 people in line. As I point that out, cashier just keeps trying to talk over me and not acknowledge this fact. Don't know if it was her pride or what. But took so long with customers ahead of me that the line just kept growing. Only reason I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1, is because I found the book I was looking for. read more

This was my daughter's first visit to Barnes and Noble and she had a blast. She loved the stage area and used it as a little reading nook for the puppets she found and gave each one of them a book. It was the cutest thing ever. I wish there was a designated children's reading area that adults could sit at too, but I know Covid makes stuff like that difficult at the moment. read more

My go to for studying on my days off or after I get off from work. There are always tables available and is always nice and clean. Everyone is so nice and courteous over at the in store Starbucks and I appreciate that since it takes me a while sometimes to get it together to start studying the actual store/book section is pretty nice and always clean. Went into this store today to do some shopping. When I first walked in I needed to use the restroom (it was an emergency) and the bathrooms were locked. I asked an employee if the bathrooms were closed and they said "they're not locked are they" and I was like "yes they are I literally just tried going in." She then walks away then comes back and says "we finished cleaning it like 15 mins ago we're just letting it dry" and I was like "well it's kind of an emergency I really have to go" and she just said sorry. Walked out right then and there. No paying customer who's about to spend a couple hundred in their store should be refused the right to use the restroom. read more
