This used to be one of my favorite places to go for books but now it is DISGUSTING. Must've been a leak or something in the roof because there is mold EVERYWHERE. It's understandable that things happen, but you should at least close your store while you fix the damage. A lot of BAM stores I've been in have been fairly nice, per my personal opinion. But I was less than impressed with this location.. The store just didn't feel real CLEAN. It wasn't the most organized in a lot of ways and didn't have that awesome bookstore feel, I don't even know if that makes sense but I'm not sure how else to describe it. It seemed like maybe they were just really low on stock, but BAM stores that I am familiar with are usually packed to the brim with books, magazines and random collectibles, like almost excessively, and this location was bear in comparison to most I've seen. Let me also mention that I am an avid reader, so going to bookstores and just walking around and basking in the glory of so many books in such close proximity is a guilty pleasure of mine. I LOVE going to bookstores, but this BAM kind of just made me feel uncomfortable and I didn't enjoy it like I normally do. I felt like the employees were unfriendly as well and just side eyeing me the whole time, and that's not even the biggest part that I didn't enjoy. Something I did think was pretty neat, though, was that this location still has one of those old ladders that's connected to the bookshelf so you can climb to the higher up books. I wish more places still had those. I just feel that this location could do better. It's possible I came in on an off day but I'm certainly glad this isn't my local bookstore option.. read more

07-2023 Nice place to get a book and a cup of coffee. I was in need of an old school 2023 road atlas. For you youngens that's a map book. I was very happy to see a place like this. I will definitely come back if I need a book. This place was very clean and the employees are frendly. read more

At checkout, I'm asked if I'm a BAM book club member and I say no, I've had issues with it in the past; it is because in every experience I have had with the store going back more than a decade, sometimes I like to browse for a few minutes but then I turn around and I've been followed by an employee the entire time with no offer of assistance, it really makes a huge difference in the experience of the sale. read more

Hate that they put liberal books on display at the front of the store and the conservative books are put in the back or hidden. I prefer to order my books online now and won't give my money to such blatant disregard for views other than their own. read more

This place is awesome! I'm not sure why someone would say they're expensive; if you use their coupons and discounts available to almost any group the books are cheaper than on Amazon. I check nearly every book I buy there against Amazon, typically they're cheaper or no more than a dollar or two more. The staff is friendly and helpful. The selection is awesome, and they seem to always have a book on the topic I'm looking for. This is probably my favorite store in all of Rapid City. read more

I just called to see if a book I needed was in stock. The staff was courteous, efficient, and took good care of my needs. The book was in stock and will be placed on hold for 7 days, but knowing they have it on hold for me, I will head up now and purchase it today. I look forward to beginning my book today, and not having to wait for it to be shipped. Shop local if you can. read more

Sorry but I don't get this bookstore only having a 2 1/2 star rating. This is a nice, well organized place. They had everything I was looking for and then some. Rapid Citizens better take heed and frequent this place more of then or you may have to travel a long way to find what you like or need. read more

I shopped here 9/10/15 8:35pm and prior times before today. My daughter wanted to pick up a gift for a friend. We get the big up sell for the bam card, no big deal. On this occasion my youngest daughter wanted a book after we left the store. We quickly browse the 5 dollar or less bookshelf outside and we find a book when remove it and I see the two staff who work here watching like we are attempting to steal from the bargain area. So we walk in and pay for it. If the staff is that worried about losing a book that is worth a half hour of work maybe they should put the bargain books back inside the store near the register so they can watch them closer. I would rather give them no stars or a negative star. read more

As a new mom who needs to get out of the house once in a while I love coming here! The staff are always helpful and very friendly from the barista to the cashiers at the front. They are also super patient when your child is a little rambunctious in the store and you feel embarrassed. The employees are one of the big draws to return due to their excellent treatment of their customers. The books are reasonably priced since they are a physical store with overhead versus an online retailer and I'm happy to pay the difference for the experience. read more

This place is expensive AF and the workers just try to sell stuff all the time. I will be shopping from amazon or target from now on. I bought a book from BAM that was supposed to be $16, but when I purchased it, it was $26. There's no reason to pay extra for books when I can get them for half or a fourth of the price. Id like to shop local, but jeez. I'd give this zero stars if I could read more

It's good our town has a book store. BAM has a fairly good selection of books & lots of other things you might find in bookstores. I really do not like the shopping experience here! I feel like the checkout clerks are constantly trying to shove their "club" down my throat. Even if I say "not interested" they keep at it. read more

The store has adequate display. I was disappointed with the meager selection of historical non fiction. No where near enough of authors like Doris Kerns Goodwin and Steven Ambrose. The return policy is awful. I brought back a sealed DVD that I bought from their dump bin. It clearly had not been opened and had stickers that the clerk acknowledged were from BAM. They refused to accept it as a return since I had no receipt, even though they knew it was still sealed and that it was for sure from BAM. I told the clerk I would happily accept store credit, I was not expecting cash.They said if I paid extra for their purchase club, then they would accept the return. Soooo, I have to pay more to return an unopened, new item. They truly harass you each time you go in to try to force you to join their scammy frequent purchase program. At a recent book club meeting at church, we all sat there complaining about our disappointments with BAM. There was so much excitement when they first moved in, but now, we do what the previous post suggested. We look at BAM, but we purchase from Amazon. read more

Wow loved this place! Stopped through while visiting our old stomping ground Rapid City! On first sight thought it would be a down grade from Borders Books that used to be here. I was pleasantly surprised to say the least! The selection and price was fantastic my family are all avid readers we all agreed it beats Barnes and Noble in all areas! The selection of gift items was amazing! A must try is the cafe drinks! The lavender honey Frappuccino and latte are unique and delicioso! The only draw back was a barista with a condescending attitude that had to be checked. read more

Where are all the employees at? I guess they want you to browse this store and not be in-and-out like I used to be with Borders before they cut their staff to what this place seems to be. Not always my style, though. I'm the type of guy who wants to run in and pick up a good read I've been recommended and be through the line & out in 5 minutes tops. I shouldn't have to stand around for 20 minutes waiting for service just because they don't hire enough staff to do proper customer service. I haven't had good service at this book store since the mid-2000's. Thought the change to the new company would change that, but no. Go to Mitzi's downtown for better service. read more

Their return policy is terrible! I bought over $300.00 worth of books for my grandkids and had to return one - they refused to exchange it. I did not want my money back only to exchange them - will never set foot in the store again. Not their largest customer I am sure but Amazon here I come! read more

This store has the most ridiculous return policy. My son received two books at his b-day party that he already owned. We went to BAM the very next day hoping to exchange for books of the same series and exact same value. Because we didn't have a gift receipt, we were turned away. I asked to speak to the manager and she offered zero solutions. It was the worst customer service experience I have ever had. She didn't offer in store credit, exchange or anything else. Looked my little boy in the face and told him maybe he should find a friend to trade books with. Who ever heard of a store with no exchange policy! My little boy wanted to spend the rest of his b-day money, but we won't be spending any money at this store or any BAM. Don't go here! read more
