Boomtown service can be hit or miss and we know as we work on 19th St! The food is delish, but if they are running low on ingredients they will skimp on the size of your order. For instance we ordered 3 $5 yogurt parfaits last week & they put only about 2 spoonfuls of yogurt in each container. Today I paid $9 for a slice of quiche that was described as having a side of arugula salad with it. They told us no salad when we picked it up as their online menu was not updated! $9 for a small slice of veggie quiche...not happy!! read more

I stopped in today for a quick iced coffee and left disappointed. I asked for a cold brew with half and half. After the coffee was prepared I asked again if half and half was used and was told yes. I'm 99% sure regular milk was used in my coffee. I drink coffee with half and half daily and know the difference in both the taste and the color the coffee takes on with it. This just highlights the unprofessionalism and ignorance of the barista. Knowing the reasons that people order different milks should be basic knowledge for a barista. Often I believe they assume that people are being difficult expecting half and half but for many it's a medical/allergy concern. Milk has 12-13g of lactose in a cup, while half and half has less than 1g of lactose per serving (2-3tbsp). For a person with a lactose sensitivity that's a big deal. I say I'm 98-98% sure milk was used in my drink because with 20 mins of taking 3-4 sips of the coffee (that I never finished) I started feeling Ill/sick to my stomach. I have run in to this issue a few times through the years and like I said-it just exemplifies the ignorance and/or unprofessional work ethic of the barista. read more

Very chic yet cozy atmosphere. I had the honey & milk latte which tasted like a pretty standard latte. It was made correctly and coffee art was exceptional. The staff is friendly and inviting and it's a great place to meet up with a friend or get some studying done. They do have free WiFi, but there were some connectivity issues while I was there. Great coffee and fast service. I got the salted caramel latte and it was pretty good. Not sweet at all. I was hoping for some caramel in there but didn't really get that. The blueberry breakfast granola bar is highly craveable. I would get that again and again. My boyfriend got the kolache and some espresso shot drink. My husband and I were surprisingly impressed with Boomtown Coffee! We live near River Oaks, so getting to Boomtown Coffee was quite the trek. We decided to come on a Saturday morning around 10:30am and found parking nearby to be difficult. We finally parked about a few blocks away in a residential area and subsequently endured a 20 minute line before getting to the counter to finally order our drinks. I decided to order their Crud (Cold brew, espresso, chicory, vanilla, cream; $4.50), while my husband decided on the Sea Turtle (Latte made with chocolate, caramel, hopes and dreams; $4.50). We both thought, "Wow, these drinks better be worth it." Well, they were and we agreed we'd totally come back! My husband really enjoyed his Sea Turtle. It was not too sweet and perfectly smooth and creamy. The Crud was also delicious, although I wish I could have substituted the milk for something like soy or almond milk. Apparently their milk is pre-made, so tough luck if you are lactose intolerant (Like me!). I didn't care though and really enjoyed The Crud despite the milk issue. Texture was delightfully creamy, wasn't bitter or too sweet. If you have not already tried Boomtown Coffee, you need to do yourself a favor and come here! I've been here twice so far and have had good experiences. I don't drink coffee which seems to be the main attraction, but they have a pretty good tea selection. So far my favorite is the mango green tea. The workers are friendly and seem to know a lot about their different coffee blends and teas. Neat atmosphere, fitting to the heights area. Lots if people settle down with their lap top or a book at one of the small cafe tables or couches. I came here on a Sunday afternoon with some friends. The place was packed, but we didn't have to wait in line for long. Some people were studying, and others were just hanging out. They have a few different milk options including almond milk. You can also pick which kind of sweetener you'd like and how sweet you want your drink on a scale from 1-5. This is one of my favorite coffee spots. The neighborhood is so cute and often is having a street festival or farmers market. There is no parking lot but easy street parking. I love their available drink menu and they have great friendly staff. I strongly recommend their daily veggie quiches (which rotates) and their $5 mocha are my go-to. Out from my they do have a covered area that is dog friendly. read more

I needed coffee to continue surviving for the rest of the day so I came here for the first time because I was in the area. I was pleasantly suprised to find a place in the area that I actually ended up being happy I spent Houston prices at. I ordered a Toddy Mocha with almond milk. (The mocha premix contains milk I was told.) I enjoyed it because it wasn't too sweet like many chocolate coffee drinks. There was a nice balance between the bitterness and sweetness although it was a bit more on the bitter side, which I like. I ordered a veggie taco and a breakfast taco. Both were delicious and at $4.50 each I thought the price was a bit steep until I saw how big they were. They're not enormous but one definitely would've been enough for me because I couldn't finish both. The veggie taco was my favorite because it had brussel sprouts and fresh arugula which happen to be two of my favorite veggies. It's nice to find a veggie taco that is more than just a bunch of random veggies thrown into oil and made into a mush. It's also worth noting that their menu marks vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free options. It's convenient for someone like me with a lot of dietary restrictions. The cortado here is delicious! It's creamy, slightly sweet, and has hints of chocolate. They also serve various teas, and food items at certain times not(I think only around lunch) in addition to some pastries. The art rotates, which constantly keeps the place fresh and new, and they redid the interior with new furniture and repainted the walls white, making the place seem larger and more inviting. There is an outdoor seating area that is shaded and covered from the elements, and there are plenty of outlets inside. Before the changes, Boomtown was already one of my favorite coffee shops in Houston, and it has only furthered solidified its position up there. I would highly recommend coming here to work, study, meet, or hang out and enjoy the atmosphere. read more

The baked goods make this a go to for me. The coffee is excellent and the barista, Ben, is a champion, but the baked goods...they give this place the 5th star. Peanut butter banana vegan oatmeal bars, nutella bread, the best blueberry muffins and none of that "retail bakery metallic taste". For consistently awesome coffee and a filling healthy baked good...this is the spot. PS...take that baking talent and give croissants a try. While I enjoy the coffee and the atmosphere, it's now full swing holidays and staff while friendly should be sensitive to those that simply want to grab a bag of coffee or gift and dash. You can get a $4 cup of coffee at a million coffee places in Houston. Go to one of them instead. Iced coffee made with milk was pretty much coffee and melted ice and slammed together with little pride or care. Don't make my coffee with milk and then let the ice melt it all down to brown water. Specialty iced coffee that was supposed to be "shaken to be frothy" was flat, watered down from melted ice and topped with so much powdered spice it was almost nasty. Maybe we caught them on a bad day. Maybe the barista just didn't like the way we looked or was still in training. For $10 for 2 cups of coffee they could have at least TRIED. Our drinks sat on the counter until one of us noticed and went to retrieve them. By then they were far from tasty and would have been cold if we had ordered a hot beverage. We were sitting right next to the bar and they did not call our name. Being ignored before we ordered, having our inquiries of what certain drinks consisted of (not all the beverages are explained on the board) half answered and having our order sit to nearly ruin while we sat waiting for our name to be called tells me they aren't really serious about being a coffee destination. Get some counter people who have figured out customer service because not everyone who comes in gets your angst performance. read more

Best coffee shop! Within walking distance of where I live. With a walk and some caffeine to kick off my day, I'm ready to kick the day in the rumpus. The Toddy Cold Brews are incredible (and incredibly strong), if you want to stay iced but try something new, the iced flat white was a great recommendation by a barista! The food menu is small, but there are some good options. Breakfast tacos are all good, and the parfait is a nice switch up with fresh fruit and homemade granola. Looove the open loft style floor plan of this coffee shop. There is plenty of seating (hard chairs) and one long communal couch with student desks. They've got amazing local art displayed along the walls and at first glance the ceilings looks carpeted... (and they might actually be) which definitely gives it a more industrial look. The menu is amazing and very descriptive! It's perfect for people that aren't really coffee drinkers, almost like an coffee index -- which I think is pretty clever. I love the fact that they have ample additive selections at the sidebar like agave, honey, turbinado etc. They have a crap ton of outlets in areas you can't use them, so there's that.. and they were playing country music in the front and trap music in the back so that's always a plus! The brewed roast is mediocre with no real flavor, but...I did get here at the last hour of the day so I'm sure it was brewed more than an hour ago. Only downside is they close at 7pm. read more

Boomtown is always a hit and definitely considered by me to be a Houston staple. It's always busy and line is almost always to the door every time I come. Baristas are quick and friendly so don't fret the wait! Location is on one of my favorite streets in one of my favorite neighborhoods and parking isn't easy but you'll find something eventually. My only complaint is the constant smoke smell. It makes me feel sick and I can never stick around here for too long hence why I just grab and go. read more
