I met a friend here for breakfast and was pleasantly surprised. I had a breakfast biscuit sandwich and decided to skip the meat--it was very filling without! It was served with a side of raspberry jam that complemented the sandwich very well for a sweet and savory combination. The scrambled eggs were more flavorful than probably any scrambled eggs I've ever had at a restaurant. Excellent coffee shop right off Taylor St and directly next to Stude Park. They're all about all things 'Active' - very runner and biker friendly. They've hosted running events in their back patio areas, and they have places for bikers to park their bikes. They are super friendly here, and there are plenty of regulars whom the staff know. As for the food and coffee... also very good!! I tried their Horchata and it is super tasty. If you like cinnamon/drinks with cinnamon, then you should definitely give this one a try. This was my first time and I expected more, however, I received a dry customer experience. I live nearby and finally had the chance to stop by for breakfast prior to work. It was promising but didn't do it for me unfortunately. I did not have the heart to tell the stag I hated it because they were so nice. Orange juice and espresso for me don't go together. Nice clean coffee and breakfast/brunch spot definitely worth a try if you're in the area. They have ample indoor and outdoor seating and they were able to accommodate the large group I was a part of. They knew in advance and already had everything set up for the group before we arrived. They were so patient and accommodating the whole time for such a large group! I ordered the active passion bowl which was quinoa, kale, eggs, sweet, potato, and avocado. It was delicious! There was also a chipotle sauce that was on top as well. They had coarse salt on the kale which was a bit much but overall, I highly recommend this dish! I also had the honey lavender latte, which was delicious! They have a watermelon syrup house made that I wanted to try, but they said that it would be overpowered by the latte and I wouldn't be able to taste it. Maybe next time I'll have a drink with the watermelon syrup! They have a selection of iced drinks there that are a bit on the pricey side, but worth a try since they are so unique. Definitely a lot of positive vibes here! The only thing I would say is that the parking is kind of tight. Especially if you have a large group. Good coffee and good food, in a casual and open environment? Sign me up. The barista was so helpful, as she asked whether it was my first time here. Knowing that I wanted to get their staple item on the menu, she recommended the most popular entrees first. However, I told her that I was wanting to get something out of the ordinary that I couldn't really just do on my own, and something unique that I couldn't really find anywhere else. And so she immediately recommended the Kimchi grilled cheese with one fried egg. That was a combination I've never even dreamed of before, but I was intrigued. The sharpness of the cheddar really complimented the taste/texture of the kimchi. And the sourdough added a complexity to it. Add the fried egg and I'm like, give me more. She also explained some of the latte options, but I opted for the flat white - which was really solid. There are plenty of seats inside and outside, including some comfy seats right around the corner in a library like setting. I opted for one of the tables but also sat out in the backyard patio. Lots of wall for chalk art for littles, while there are really nice shady places to sit and relax. Only thing is that there were no more parking in the immediate lot so ended up parking on the street. Overall a great place to study, sip coffee and eat some unique food!! read more

Tried this place for the first time today and I have to say, it's really good. I got the lavender honey latte with oat milk and it was pretty good. I do wish it was a little more stronger on the lavender side but it was still enjoyable. I also got a smoked brisket breakfast taco which was really good. The size of the taco was pretty big and there were good cuts of the smoked brisket. They also recommended I try all 3 of their sauces with it and the best one to me was habanero. Also, there are plenty of seats and it's a quiet place to do work or just hang out if needed. The service was great and the baristas were really friendly. I would come back again. read more

Active Passion Coffee is such a gem in Houston! I came on a day when they had a halal menu and couldn't resist--I got everything along with a few drinks, and everything was absolutely delicious. The cookie butter iced latte was next level, easily one of the best I've had. Service was warm and friendly, and you can tell they really care about their customers. Inside there are only a few spots, but the huge backyard and patio make it perfect for relaxing with friends or just enjoying the outdoors. Definitely a place I'll keep coming back to! read more

The parking lot is a little small but we were able to get a spot around 11:30am on a Saturday. The service was nice and quick. My mocha was good- I added a packet of sugar since I like it sweeter. The breakfast taco was really good, would def come back for that again. The Nutella strawberry bagel was also really good as a sweeter treat. Lots of seating inside and outside (with umbrellas). I have not tried the food, but it looks great. They have the best cold foam lattes - I have been trying them around town and they remain overall way better than other places that are super trendy for the sugary concoctions and that offer way more varieties than Active Passion. They also have well-executed hot expresso drinks - I usually do the flat white. Definitely the consistently best in the Heights IMO (there are a few I have not tried but I've been to most the coffee shops). And, they use quality milks. Generally they overall care about quality. Owners and managers normally there - they have a solid great staff who will take care of you. read more

I used to visit this coffee shop often, but I won't anymore. There are definitely better places around with higher quality or at least more attentive staff. My order was mixed up with another customer's, and the barista showed little interest in fixing the mistake or offering to remake it. Adding a syrup to an iced latte isn't a difficult request, but the lack of willingness to correct it made the experience even worse. That lack of care and awareness was disappointing. It tastes even better when my extra hot latte is in a real coffee cup 2- best treat is the ham and cheese jalapeño croissant. But what I really love is that they have healthy items too when I'm not ready to splurge on the calories 3-the surroundings both inside and outside are comfortable and adorable. Bright colors inside make me happy to walk in. The umbrellas outside (both on the deck in the front or on the back patio) are perfect on those days when Houston weather is nice 4-the owner is always ready to help you with a friendly smile 5-support for the local active community. They've got outdoor seating in both the front and back of the coffee shop as well as indoor seating if you're comfortable with that. The theme of the shop is a combo of the things the owners are passionate about - coffee and being active! They regularly have events such as 5K runs, yoga, bike rides and even kick boxing! You get a discount on your purchase if you participate in the "active activity" of the day and those are usually held on the weekends. The owner is the SWEETEST woman who is so incredibly friendly and hands-on with her business, I love it. We talked with her for probably a good 20-30 minutes and had such fun doing so. I stopped by over the weekend to check out some of the drinks. I ended up getting a hibiscus berry tea and then decided to get the french toast to try out there brunch menu as well. To start I thought the tea drink would have more of a mixture taste but the hibiscus over powers the berry. So if you want more of fruit flavor choose a different option (it wasn't bad just wasn't what I had a taste for). The french toast on the other hand was great would definitely try again. This is one of the best coffee shops and breakfast places. We have lived in the Heights for years but didn't go to Active Passion until we moved in across the street. Every single item that we have tried is made incredible. They have the best breakfast tacos. Their ice tea is beautifully brewed (they brew it before they serve it and don't use bags, which I love). Their pastries are incredible. They deserve more recognition than they have gotten for how high-quality their food and drinks are. Plus, they are open on holidays like Thanksgiving. Wow, what a nice find for a pit stop along White Oak Bayou. I had a horchata with an espresso shot added that was a nice mix of cinnamon and coffee. I also tried their homemade electrolyte drink which was excellent as well. The shop is very runner/cyclist friendly and they provide cold towels on the weekends.
