We visited Boonie's for the first time this afternoon. The service was great. There were lots of beers on the draft list. We had the haddock with tots, HUGE tenderloin with onion rings, French dip with onion rings and steak sandwich with side salad. We have enough leftovers for two more meals. If you leave hungry, it's your fault! Everything tasted fresh and delicious. We're looking forward to our next trip! read more

Typical bar food, served in generous portions; everything was great. On street parking can be tricky in this downtown location, many sports are pay to park (bring those Aldi's quarters). We came on a busy Friday afternoon lunch, service was very slow, the waitress didn't come back often and we were left without drinks most of our service. We had the Chicken Tender Dinner, Chicken Bacon Ranch, and Breaded Chicken Sandwich (Buffalo style). All meals arrived hot and all items were right. A wonderful eatery run by a great family! Servers are always smiling - even when they are slammed! Food is always consistent. We have the cheese curds to start and there were no words to describe the deliciousness - partly because everyone's mouth was full. Stopped In for a Quick Lunch!! I was in the area for business and was walking around the downtown area of Muscatine. I was looking for a place to grab a quick bite for lunch so I headed over to Boonies on the Avenue, which seemed like a good choice. Boonies is a bar, and restaurant that is a popular spot in the area to eat. The place was busy that day and I sat at the bar and the bartender came over and helped me order my lunch. I was looking for something on the lighter side as I had a massive breakfast that morning at the Cambria in Bettendorf. I decided on the mouthwatering bacon-wrapped shrimp, with the Boom Boom sauce and wow this was a great little starter. Next up was the lunch salad and as the bartender recommended, I ordered the Sweet Bacon Spinach Salad which was surprisingly a taste extravaganza, and still on the light side. This salad consists of fresh spinach, grilled chicken, shredded carrots, red onion, croutons and hard-boiled egg and of course, the house-made sweet bacon dressing on the side. My kind of place. Great beer selection featuring several Marzen for Oktoberfest. Staff was really friendly. Cool look inside with lots of room. About 30 TV's for catching a game wish I could be there on a Saturday I bet there is a good college football vibe. Collection of families and regulars. The wings have the sauce on the side and I had the smoked wings with garlic Parmesan and I thought it was weird that the sauce was on the side but it played perfectly. Wings were good with no sauce. Only reason 4 vs 5 is the restrooms were located right by the kitchen which seemed kind of awkward because it was a narrow hall as well. One thing on the menu that intrigued me were their egg rolls. We stopped in on a Tuesday afternoon. Been there a couple times before and liked it. Today the Ambiance and service was again very good. Drinks we had beer on tap. My wife's Miller light on tap was semi-warm and flat. My micro brew was also warm. We had an appetizer of bacon wrapped tater tots which were ok. For the meal my wife had a Cuban Sandwich which was advertised with Ciabatta bun but came with a very generic Hogie bun. The Mac & Cheese that came with it was proper. Good flavor. I had a Philadelphia cheese steak which was dry on a very dry bun. The side was Onion rings that might have been good but the cook never shook the basket and separated them so they came in a big clump that appeared ok done on the outside but doughy and gooey on the inside. Looking in the back I saw the cook on his phone rather than paying attention to what he was cooking. We spent over 50 bucks that if given the option in advance I wouldn't pay 10 bucks for. We were out of town visitors August 15 and randomly picked this as a place to eat. The place appeared clean, including restrooms. The wait staff took good care of us. Prices are reasonable. Food was good. I had the chipotle turkey sandwich. It was loaded with sliced turkey. Very filling. The fries were good too. I would come back again, though it was a bit noisy so not the best place to visit while eating. But that's typical of most sports bars. read more

Stumbled upon this place while traveling through Muscatine. Great find! Nice casual place close to the river. LOTS of TV's, so I bet this place is hoppin' during sports. Service was very good. Very sweet little server. She was BUSY, but always so pleasant and friendly. Food was great. Delicious onion rings, hand breaded with a breadcrumb coating. Hot heave or greasy. Delicious ranch dipping sauce, too. Hubby got the chicken strips and reports, "Very good!" He loves chicken strips, so that is high praise! I got the Sticky Burger, which is a nicely done burger with plenty of bacon and creamy peanut butter. Done just as a peanut butter burger should be. I add lettuce. It was decadent and filling. We both had leftovers and look forward to re-living this great meal, at home. The highlight of the meal was the sweet pepper slaw. Probably the best slaw I've ever eaten! I cleaned up my portion there and ordered an extra side to take home, to enjoy with my leftovers! All in all, a great find! I came to Boonie's with a small group on Wednesday and was really impressed, both with the quality of service and the food. I ordered 6 wings, which were a good deal at $5, and a side salad. There are about 8 sauces you can choose from when ordering your wings, and you can also pick if you want them regular, breaded, or boneless. I'm a traditionalist, so I went with regular wings with hot sauce. They didn't come pre-tossed in the hot sauce, so I had to pour it on then do my best to fully coat them. Also, there was no finger bowl or celery. I couldn't care less about the celery, but I eat wings like an animal and would really have appreciated some wet wipes or even extra napkins. For all of my complaints, the wings were really crispy and had a good flavor, and I wouldn't hesitate to order them again. The salad was generous; plenty of veggies atop a large bowl of romaine lettuce. My parents got cobb salads, which they enjoyed, and almost everyone else at the table got burgers that looked pretty good. Boonie's is a Muscatine stand-out and I can't wait to come back! read more

Stopped in here for happy hour and to grab a quick snack. My neighbor has been raving about this place for some time so I made it a point to join them on their Thursday adventure. I am sure glad I did, Boonies is in a old downtown building near the river in Muscatine and it has that old school river town vibe with a new twist. There was plenty of TVs for the sports fan out there. 27 different beers on tap and decent selection of spirits too. They have alot of seating and even some outdoor seating areas along the front of the building. Parking is metered, and only allows for 2hrs of parking, I am not sure if they stop that after a certain time of day. The daytime bartender is a real firecracker and a hoot to chat with. My new nickname is Dread as she will Dread when I am there, and she is known as sh*tty Sophia - great smile, terrible attitude! :-) This is all in play of course the entire staff was wonderful and this should just give you the vibe of the joint. Every fun. They have an awesome selection of eats as well. I got the cheese curds as I was just looking for a snack, however these were not just any cheese curds, these came with some sort of magical sprinkles of tasty deliciousness that really set them a bar above. We recently had lunch and a beer at Boonie's after reading reviews of Missippi Brewing. I had eaten dinner at Boonies many years ago, pre-Yelp. It sounded like both the beer selection and the food would be better at Boonies. I went in intending to have a burger but opted for a "Sheboygan" bratwurst instead. It was fine, but not what you get in Sheboygan. It really needed to be grilled, but as I said, it was fine. I liked the addition of a pepper relish. I avoided fries and asked for their sweet pepper relish. It is a sweet and sour (more sweet than sour) clear dressing style that reminded me of the slaw that my grandmother used to make. It was very close, in fact. Ms T ordered a cheeseburger and it was quite good. It was done well enough for her but not dried out. It did not look hand patted, but was not densely packed either. We can recommend a burger at Boonie's. They have a decent craft beer selection, featuring quite a few Iowa beers. Boonie's is a nice place, our server as very friendly and we had a nice lunch. My rating is a strong three stars. Don't let that deter you. It is typical for a sports bar, pub kind of place. read more

Met a Very unfriendly, on the edge of rude, waitress named Skye. Both sandwiches (French and Philly) were dry. Questioned green substance on Tator Tot...thinking mold but guess ranch dressing mix? Was looking forward to great food and beer. Ordering was quick, but.... Never got our salad (mentioned it 3 times) to waitress. One burger asked for a no onion bun for his MUSHROOM burger, came on onion bun,no mushrooms,but piled on with grilled onions. Mentioned to the waitress, she came back and said they were out of mushrooms. Never told us, had to ask for drink refills. Asked waitress to make sure salad was taken off of bill. This is the first review I've ever done. Previously I used to waitress there for three years. If you want to go to an establishment where, pretty much everything gives you diarrhea or an upset stomach this is your place. The only reason I would choose to eat there is bc employees receive a 50% discount. If it wasn't for that reason I'd never eat there by choice. As for costumer service, I can say the ladies do bust their ass off. Personally this is just my opinion, if the owners were to humble themselves, their businesses would still be thriving just as much, if not more than when they first opened. I've heard stories of guest and employees no longer bringing there hard earned cash here bc it simply has changed. But I've also personally seen, Boonie push one of the waitresses in front of guest and staff. So if you would like to surround yourself and attempt to be apart of a group that is truly exclusive, meaning staff picks and chooses who to better cater to then go right on ahead. Again, if you aren't a regular and known by name, expect mediocre service. Like mentioned before from other reviews, if you want an exceptional dining experience w food worth paying for, meaning your food isn't coming from six freezers upstairs. Then, stay away from this joint. Oh, and let's not forget the groping dishwasher upstairs..who has no boundaries. Keep in mind majority of the staff are young ladies. Our favorite go-to restaurant in Muscatine. The menu can cater to any kind of craving and the sports bar atmosphere really ties it all together. We have always had impeccable service and the owners always stop by our table to connect and make sure the experience is great. I've been here a few times, menu is always good, it has something for everyone, beer selection is good and will cover everyone's taste. Today we came in and it was by far the busiest it's ever been when I've been here. Service was okay, not amazing, but we didn't go hungry or thirsty. Other tables appeared to have some issues, sending meals back, cold burger, over cooked steak sort of thing. Went there this afternoon to enjoy lunch . My boyfriend and I are both from out of town and we looked at the menu before going since we aren't familiar with the area. We walk in - seat yourself . Grab a couple drink menus from the table and proceed to look over the menu . Much to our surprise , numerous items that we had our eyes on were crossed out with a black marker on the menu (tacky).The table next to us got the run down too as a few items they wanted were no longer available. Disappointed , we went ahead and ordered. I asked for steam veggies - which they either no longer have or were out of. At this point I couldn't keep up with what was in and what was out. It wasn't crossed out or anything. You're SOL if you're wanting a healthy side option that's not a salad. My boyfriend ordered a sandwich which she rang in only to come out a few minutes later- surprise ! They are out of that too. Those drink menus that we grabbed - the "manager" made her way around to grab them up because they are "changing " them . Odd. Why wouldn't they do that prior to opening ? My boyfriend's entree came out - we looked at each other like where's the rest ? So I started a timer on my phone. 4 minutes later - my salad. 9.5 minutes in - the rest of the order ( burger with no side ) missing bacon . Sent it back. Finally everything was there. Why would they deliver 1 item and just make the other guest wait? I've never been to a restaurant that has done this before . Not only that , I ordered a burger and a salad . Nice spot! We got there and had to wait on someone for a while before ordering but our waitress was attentive and always made sure to check in on us. The food was good, everything we had was delicious. My only complaint is that the tables are very close together so I kinda felt crowded at times, but that might have just been the table. We had a party of 8 and a reservation. The staff had no idea what to do with us, so we had to stand in the doorway until they could track down someone who knew we had a reservation. (Our table had a sign on it, I'm still not sure what the issue was...). My husband ordered a plain double cheeseburger, and the waitress was confused. I said, "he wants a burger with two patties and no vegetables", you would think i was speaking Latin. She goes "well, I don't know if they can do that...". Seriously?? I ordered a salad that came with olives, and asked for no olives. That was it. My salad came with olives and had to be sent back. The french fries were under cooked and their burgers weren't very tasty. Essentially a sports bar with bar food. There are a lot of TVs. I don't know how they determine which TV sports program gets the sound, but there was a football game on and it was so loud that you could not here the person next to you. Had the fish and chips. They were 3 small preformed cod pieces. Average and greasy at best. The fries were excellent. Had a good side salad for about $3.50. Nice Iowa craft beer selection. The only thing that came out correct was the water. I ordered a LaGunitas Waldos IPA, and was given a cherry sour. Gross. Ordered breaded pickle chips, there was no pickle to them, felt like more of just deep fried breading. My Dimestore burger was delivered, tasted well, but they somehow forgot my side of tater-tots. When they were finally delivered they were powdered or coated in a heavy seasoning that was just a bit too much. On top of all this the bathroom was a bit of a mess and leaking water. Thankfully an employee was tending to the matter and apologized for the situation. My girlfriend on the other hand had a nice experience. She could even tell, being a laidback person who had worked in the restaurant industry for 14 years, that I was a bit annoyed. I later asked some people at a bar around the corner named "Embers" about places to eat.
