The butter taste of the flaky, perfect breads is so delicious!!! Such impressive flavors! The proprietor was practicing my name the whole time he was serving me so that he could remember my name. He demonstrated his strong patron memory by commenting to another customer that on the bicycle this guy always rides, he would look like a Parisian man with this 2 breadstick loaves of bread in his bicycle basket! The proprietor shared that with the brand new bread oven, he has been practicing making pizza that keeps the bread (rather than toppings) as the main player. He shared a sample piece and I was recommend! His idea is to offer this pizza as an afternoon/evening option to all the traffic stalled outside his shop every evening (the light at the corner of Kenwood and Montgomery Rd. We were passing through Cincinnati and found this on Yelp. If you are any where near you must stop in!! The shop is small only 2 small tables. It's extremely clean and the aroma of the freshly baked pastries is heavenly. We got there at10:50am on Sunday morning. The customer in front of us bought the last 2 danish which was sad but they still had enough other choice items. We tried: Ham and cheese croissants Power scone Chocolate croissant We really wanted to try the Kouign but they didn't have any in the case. We were lucky because the new batch was almost ready. While we waited we were invited to watch the sheeting for the ham and cheese croissants being prepared for Monday. The Kougin were definitely worth the wait!! The 2 ladies working were so friendly and helpful. We definitely will plan a trip to Cincinnati (3 hours from our home)just to return here. I kept reading about this place on FB so decided to give it a go while I was in the area. Oh. My. Gosh. This place is just a gem. I had a hard time picking what I wanted to try because everything looked so good. Luckily the staff was so kind and gave plenty of samples. Their claim is that they have the best croissants outside of Paris and that is very likely true. The light buttery but sweet delicacy was one of the best I've ever tasted. My favorite however was the cinnamon roll. How you make a cinnamon file without icing is beyond me, but they made it work and I can't wait to try another. I have a favorite bakery downtown that is great but not very convenient. Ummmm yea....without a doubt, this bakery will be my go to for fresh pastries made in house. Kouign-Amann, I don't even know what this is but I apparently needed this in my life. The nice lady gave me a sample after I inquired about it ..well played. I immediately purchased that and a few others because I immediately knew this place was legit legit. French pastries have become my new love language lately and I'm almost sorry this is around the corner from my job. I see many treat Fridays spent right here demolishing the Kouign-Amann right in the parking lot. The croissant was unbelievable. The chocolate chip cookie was obviously homemade and fresh. Absolutely phenomenal bakery in Kenwood! They definitely have a specialty and that specialty is buttery, flakey, French pastries. You're mostly going to find variations of croissants and danishes here - but practice clearly makes perfect here because these are top notch! I got an assortment of pastries from their cream cheese danish to their ham and cheese croissant and everything was superb. They also had more than enough croissants when I came at around noon on the weekend so you don't need to worry about them selling out of all of the good stuff. The Kouign-amann they told me is their best seller and I can see why - hard to go wrong with flaky dough, butter and sugar when done well! My kids love the chocolate crossiants. One of my faves is the cream cheese pastry. I also like the plain croissant but the hubs thinks it's a little too sweet, and while technically he's right, I don't mind it. Chalk it up to my love of things to lean to the sweeter side, like most of us Cincinnatians do. Recently they've had a "European coffee cake" which was a dense, dark, bread-like coffee cake. It had a lovely light orange and almond flavor to it. While not my favorite pastry ever, points for uniqueness and seemingly excellent execution. Last time I was in, a couple who had a unique allergy had a lot of questions about the flour and ingredients. The owner was insanely friendly with their questions, and understandably proud to know his ingredients and sources inside and out. I was truly impressed with how not just patient he was with them but genuinely excited to help them. The shop is pretty and clean w a slightly French vibe. Stopped into Boosalis on a Friday morning to pick up some pastries for that evening! They were generous with the samples when I said it was my first time and extremely cheery and kind. I tried their specialty item (Kouign-Amann) which was truly delectable. I had numerous people try it and they all agreed it was their favorite. I also got a morning roll which has a nice orange zest flavor, a chocolate croissant, and a strawberry cheese danish. I'd go back for the Kouign-Amann alone!! They don't sell any crusty breads, as they don't have the right oven for it in Cincinnati, but I hear their breads at the Centerville location are to die for. She said they do try to make challah on Fridays. Go visit Boosalis to try the Kouign Amann at a minimum!! Perfect to swing by when running errands in Kenwood and the pastries held up great in the fridge until dinner time. Just be sure to pull them out in time to fully get back to room temp! read more
