Boostan has become that classic hole-in-the-wall place for me when I working in Ham-town. I've yet to have anything bad here - and arguably, their fattoush is some of the best in city; always fresh, with the correct crunch versus salad ratio that is often forgotten in this traditional dish. I know, I know - your thinking "it's salad, how bad/good can it be?" Trust me, when it comes to fattoush, it's all about the mix of fresh greens, the crunchiness of the khubz, and how zesty the sumac dressing is. Boostan never waivers in the quality of the mix, and if you throw in some of their grilled chicken, you have enough that I often make two meals out of one order. Yes, it has a small parking area, and yes, as a third-trick guy I wish they were open past midnight....but I can't really knock them, as the location is part of the reason I'm here so much. Boostan, you have made this railroader into a loyal customer for a reason - fast service, quality food, and friendly staff who aims to keep things moving and get me back to work. When you want a shawarma and see 5 stars, you can't believe you could go wrong, right? Well....ummmm.... a couple of things went wrong for me. The first thing was that when I checked in, expecting to get a mango juice for my efforts, I found out that it's only with an order of $20 or more. Secondly, when I walked in and stood in line, I found myself waiting and waiting for a staff person and a customer to finish up a personal conversation. Mind you the service on the phone and once I finally got to the window was good. My major disappointment was my lamb shawarma.The size was okay, but the tahini had a lot of citrus and overpowered all the other flavors. It was also lukewarm, even though I arrived within 2 minutes of the pickup time (not counting the time in line). I stop in again and try something else in hopes it was a fluke. read more

Just before we hit the road, we stopped here to eat! (So glad we did) the food was delicious and the service was a bonus. It's a little hole in the wall, you just place your order and get it to go! We got a chicken burger + fries and a meal with two skewers, rice, salad, and bread which came with pita bread, and a fresh mango juice! Great spot for good quick friendly service, large food portions and excellent Shawarma. I tried the Chicken Shawarma Salad - I got the large, but there is no way I can even eat the whole thing. It comes with a side of pita and really tasty garlic sauce. Google maps gave me slightly the wrong directions (it is kitty corner to where the map sent me) It's on the corner next to a party store. Booston is currently my favorite carry out restaurant. Heck, it's my favorite restaurant of any type. This little place hits every note right. Try anything on the menu, and I'll bet you'll love it. Lamb shawarma, chicken shawarma, shrimp papaya sub, fresh squeezed juices and smoothies, rice pudding, shrimp ghallaba... All of it is best in class. And the service is quick and friendly. If you're a Yelper, order and pay for your food online and pick it up lickety-split. But even if you're not an online orderer, your food will be ready quickly. Boostan is a must-try place. Very fresh and delicious! Everything had such a wonderful flavor infusion! I had the chicken shawarma plate with rice and salad and my husband had the beef shawarma plate. Both very flavorful in distinctive ways from one another! And the salad dressing has a unique and delicious flavor too! The homemade hummus is really smooth and creamy and the garlic sauce is strong flavor but mix a little with the hummas and put on the pita bread and it's really nice! Both the mangp juice and pomegranate juice were cool, refreshing, and delicious too :) will definitely return to try more menu items! read more

The easiest 5 star I've given in a long time!!! When we entered the establishment we were greeted by a nice man behind the counter. He asked if we've been there before and when we said "No" he helped us pick our lunch. We ended up getting the Boostan Chicken wrap and chicken kefta wrap. We started with the pita and hummus and lentil soup. We got a seat outside- there are 5-6 tables outside and 3-4 tables inside. The gentleman brought us chili to try and a few desserts "on the house". The taste was out of this world!! You could tell everything was fresh and made to order. The hummus came with garlic which made it extra tasty. We also got the mango smoothie- yum!! I can't recommend this place enough. Between the service and food, definitely a 5 star! read more

They say Hamtramck is "the world in 2 square miles" and what a special part of the world the Boostan Cafe turned out to be! We ventured here BECAUSE of positive Yelp reviews and felt compelled to confirm how extraordinary the food was and how extra-warm and friendly the hospitality was, too. Our party of four ordered a wide variety of items and EVERYTHING was superlative. Hommous and garlic spread appetizers started things out with bang. The Salad was super-fresh, with crisp organic greens, intensely flavored tomatoes and perfectly balanced vinaigrette and spices. The fresh Lentil Soup was almost buttery. Chicken Shawarma (half order) -- perfectly cooked, very generous portion. Shrimp Kabob -- top notch on some of the tastiest rice ever. And the Ghallabas...we got one Salmon and one Chicken...were a feast of succulent meat, along with carrots, mushrooms, green peppers, onions and tomatoes in a delicious homemade sauce. Almost forgot the fries, which were dusted in a crispy batter, and among the best any of us had tasted. And where else can you get a fresh mango juice for $3.49? We feasted and feasted and when all of us were completely satiated, we still had at least 1/2 of the food to take home. Our hosts offered us phyllo-style dessert treats and the house tea, which is chai-style with cinnamon, cardamon and clove. Wow! This crew of young men from Yemen do everything with such love and care, you can't help but have a dining experience that belies the cafe's (very) humble atmosphere. So this places gets 5++ stars for going above and beyond!! Today I was in Detroit and had a flight out at 7. Stopped here around 4 to grab something. Asked the boy taking orders what he would recommend for food that would still taste good a few hours later. He asked the chef and they recommended the falafel since any meat might not be good after sitting out for several hours. I ordered the falafel sandwich. The part that really impressed me is they gave me free lavash & hummus since that would also be okay to eat later (for free!!!) I love small cultural hole in the wall places. I love Arab/Mediterranean food. I would like to say I loved this food but I can't because I had a disappointing experience. Went in last night with a group of 4 people, there were 2 other people in the place already. Three of us ordered our food and sat down, so that's 5 total orders in the first 30 minutes of us being there. My friends got their food and so did the other two people in the place but I was waiting patiently while browsing on my phone. Naively, I gave the 3 guys working there enough time that another group came in and ordered. Once that group was done ordering I asked about my food. I was told that it must have been one of the tickets that fell behind the cabinet. I asked for a refund and they tried to get me to wait longer for the food to be made but I already gave them plenty extra time. I took my money and left, still hungry and now just disappointed by such carelessness and disregard. I have worked in food service, if in a span of 30 to 45 minutes there are only 5 orders and 1 ticket (20% of your business) goes missing, you take notice. Mistakes happen but to leave the restaurant in the hands of 3 teenaged boys, that's the real mistake here. 0/10 experience. read more

The gentle men in the building were really nice! They were so patient and helpful as they walked me through the menu.
