I work downtown and have for a number of years, since Mikes opened. Ive had a number of their Smoothies, phenomenal! I usually get their BBQ Chicken Bites for lunch, at least once a week or so. They are incredible! I think the food is amazing and their service and staff are even better. They have competitive pricing, especially for being a downtown spot. Ali and his family are some of the nicest and kindest folks youll meet. We love helping out family businesses, this is one to frequent, they treat you like family. I would like to give Mikes Kabob Grille a better rating, but so much about my experience here seemed rushed, forced, or downright unwelcoming. I went here while in the Detroit area expecting some good shawarma. While I will say that the menu selection is indeed impressive, what I experienced was more along the lines of being told what I could get rather than what was advertised or what I wanted. What was advertised was chicken shawarma, which is great because this is also what I wanted. Fully expecting that the sweet sweet shawarma would have a rice foundation. I was quickly told that there "was no rice today" and that I could get fries or veggies. So I chose veggies. But let's back up as to why I think there was "no rice today". I walked into this place for dinner around 530pm. The website notes that they close at 630 and the door has a clear posting that they close at seven. There was one other patron there when I came in. As I walked in, he was arguing with the cook about how he called in his order. The cook was telling him if he wanted what he called in he'd have to wait 15 more minutes. I asked the guy if he'd been waiting long and he indicated that they only started his called in order when he arrived, and that he couldn't wait 15 more minutes on top of his order time. When this guy finally got his order, a 20 dollar total, the portions of lamb were super small. He expressed his disappointment to the expressionless cook who also rang up his meal. The place looked closed when I got there. Again, this was at 530, an hour and a half before closing time. I almost walked passed it without checking the door, and if I hadn't seen this other patron in there I would have. So back to my "no rice today" theory. My theory is that this one cook who was also ringing up meals was pretty much the only person doing any work at the place and wanted to get outta there as soon as possible. I did see what looked like management there but they seemed aloof and non-committed to providing service of any kind. So my theory is that the cook did not want to dirty any more dishes, minimizing what I assume would be his sole additional workload, and wanted to cook only in one wok or pan--whatever he was using at the time. So I took the chicken and veggies platter. The chicken was actually really good. The veggies were nothing to write home about. Unfortunately, the service experience is what made the rating of this review, not necessarily the food. This place gets 1 star because: 1: it has food. It is a bit pricey. 0: after ordering, the basics of my dish were not provided and instead I was told I would have to take the available sides. 0: I literally witnessed another bad customer experience right in front of me. 0: the place looked real closed. Like real closed. An hour and a half before posted closing time. 0: the management didn't seem to care. By proxy, or maybe actually, the cook didn't care either. read more

Diarrhea Delights! Stopped in for a lunch with some coworkers new to the area. Figured it was decent enough after seeing a few people coming in from the street. All of us opted for their chicken shawarma platters, standard fare. Found it odd that there were no towers of meat but whatever. What ended up arriving was mess of unseasoned stewed chicken and some rice. No, it was not ghallaba. There was one sliver of pickle, one sliver of tomato and a dried hunk of turnip. This was not a shawarma platter, this tasted of the finest canned chicken with not even the faintest hint of seasoning. After each of us gave it a shot with a few bites it all went to trash where it belongs. Soon after eating all three of us got to feel the heart and soul of this imitation of shawarma with explosive diarrhea throughout the night. Thanks for memories! read more

DO NOT EAT HERE...EVER! As another Yelper commented before, EXPLOSIVE DIARRHEA AND VOMIT ALERT! 1). Let me begin with saying that the meal itself took over an hour to deliver (ordered through uber eats). The driver who dropped off the food even received a ticket for waiting in a parking spot for too long (his fault) but the point is, be prepared to wait for your food. Honestly, you'll have enough time to raise your children, guide them through college, and become a grandparent; that's when your food will be finished. 2). When we finally received our food after humanity relocated to Mars, we inspected it. Of course one of the item that we received was wrong, instead of a salad we received a soup (DO NOT GET THE SOUP, we'll come back to this). The food itself was sub par at best, the chicken shawarma was ehh, the rice pilaf was unseasoned. As my girlfriend quoted, plain white rice has more seasoning than the rice pilaf. I ordered the chicken kofta platter, the chicken itself was dry and the seasoning was ok. The texture itself made me believe that it was frozen instead of freshly made. 3). This place is overpriced, if I'm paying $20 per meal, please add salt to it at the very least. 4). Like I said, we're coming back to the soup. We flew in from out of town for a national weight lifting event that my girlfriend was competing in. Mind you that you have to qualify for this event, and you're also in competition with the top athletes (10%'rs) of the country. We decided to order food the night before, keeping it healthy so that she stays within her weight class. Oh we made the worst choice possible that night.... The morning of her competition, she was not feeling well. She threw up and she threw up hard! I'm not kidding, it was where she had to throw up about every 10 mins. When she finally regained the ability to keep it in, we decided to walk to the venue which is a few minutes away. She threw up on the way there (no surprise). She barely had the energy to compete as the stomach virus that she was battling zapped her of her life. Even an on site doctor was trying to support her as she crawled up into a ball every time she was done lifting. Surprisingly, she was able to lift and put a total on the board (not her best meet). She was preparing for months and the damn soup prevented her from doing her best. This goes without saying, I'm pissed with how this business is ran. You seriously need to re-evaluate the food that you are serving to people everyday. Not being timely is one thing but when you are serving outdated food, that is seriously unacceptable. This is a nice addition to the downtown Detroit lunch scene. I disagree with Kyle Z's characterization of the price and the portion size. Actually, I also disagree with his characterization of the cleanliness. We found the restaurant to be spic and span. Two of our group of three had salad, one "Taste the Sea" with salmon ($9.95) and the other had "Fatoush Fantastic" with chicken ($7.95). Both ordered small and the portions were plenty big for lunch; both commented on the tastiness of their orders. I ordered the m'jadra pita for $4.75. It was delicious and filling. As others have reported, service was slow, but I chalk that up to a relatively new staff. read more

I've given this place a few tries and I am done. The service and food are both too inconsistent for my liking. Sometimes the wait is 30 minutes and longer for carry out even when you call it in, and other times you arrive to pick up cold food that was ready for pick up two minutes after you called it in. The shawarma sandwiches are sometimes served cold (as if the chicken was pre-cooked and refrigerated), and the salads are wilted. I've ordered the lemon rice soup which looked like it had too much turmeric or something in it (lemon rice soup should be more of a yellow color not neon orange) and it was unappetizing. It's too bad because this place can't get it together because the location is perfect. read more

Mike's Kabob Grille is a small, casual joint located in the Chrysler House building in downtown Detroit. I ordered online and it was ready on time when I went to pick it up. I got a Sujik Pita combo, and chose curly fries for my side. Sujik pita is described as "Grilled spicy Lebanese sausages, wrapped with garlic sauce, tomato and pickles", and that's exactly what I got. The sausages weren't spicy at all, but they were well-seasoned and had a good texture. The tomato and pickles were window dressing, and the garlic paste was garlicky and tangy like a good garlic paste should be. The wrap itself was cooked in some sort of press which helped it to maintain structural integrity up until the very last bite, which impressed me. The curly fries were your typical seasoned frozen curly fries, but they were cooked well and filled that curly fry-shaped void in my stomach. For 50 cents, I ordered a side of "Blazin Detroit" sauce to have with my fries. When he was ladling the sauce into a plastic ramekin, the guy warned me that it was "really hot" and to "be careful". Warning was not necessary - this tasted exactly like Frank's RedHot sauce, maybe ratched up a couple Scoville units. It was underwhelming and somewhat disappointing as I love the heat and that's why I ordered it. There's nothing surprising here, no great highs, and no great lows. A solid, fast, casual spot to grab some filling lunch. read more

I picked up Mike's from Westborn Market in the Carry Out Food Area. Oh, yum. A bit pricey, $6.99 for a falafel sandwich with a 1oz hummus side, but it's possible Westborn ups the price to get a cut. Still, the quality was good, great ratios for the veggies and pickles and sauce in the sandwich, not soggy at all. The falafel in it was also quite moist, not a lot of places do that very well, so many of them can be dry and crumbly, but this was very filling and savory. I'll be interested to go in person to the restaurant at some point, but for now, I'll pick up lunches from them at Westborn! read more

First time here. Got the chicken cream chop sandwich combo with Fattoush salad. It was $11. After waiting 13 minutes, I asked, does it normally take this long (was on lunch, so I can plan for next time). The guy who seemed like the owner/manager said, "it's fried chicken, so yes." No problem. Finally got the sandwich, and took a bite and was disappointed. It was just a regular frozen chicken patty that was cooked in a toaster then sliced. Horrible place! Very overpriced for what you get. The pictures make it look like you are getting saffron rice but you get bland regular rice. I got the chicken kebabs and they were dry as a bone. I had to dip them into my soup to make them edible....and the soup was salty and disgusting. The yogurt and hummus you get with your kebabs are also terrible. I don't know if was the culture or language barrier but the Muslim women that work there are very rude. AVOID THIS PLACE! read more

The service can sometimes be spotty but they're great for the most part. This is my favorite Mediterranean restaurant. When I had issues with my order the manager understood. Instead of BSing, he fully replaced my order and cooked it himself. The staff is becoming more diverse and the food is great. I love their grilled salmon and chicken cream chop entree. The shawarma and falafel sandwiches are great, too. Everything tastes fresh and most importantly: THEY DO NOT HASSLE YOU OVER CONDIMENTS/PITA BREAD. You can ask for garlic sauce or pita and it's handed right to you or placed in the bag. Every other place I've tried will ask that you pay for a little 2oz of garlic spread or you get a weird face/rolled eyes. Please keep it up! Wooo! read more

Pretty good, but somewhat inconsistent. Compared to CK Med nearby, the food is much, much better, but still not as good as what I've found in Dearborn or some of the Metro suburbs. I ordered the same dish on a few different occasions and it was totally different each time. If you order a combo with hummus, just be aware that depending on what day you order, your hummus may be a tiny portion packed into one of those little sauce containers. Strange? Yes, especially since I received a full portion on another occasion. If you order carryout, be prepared to wait 30-45 minutes, even if you order before the noon lunch rush. So, I called ahead and ordered my food for take-out. I got there around 5:30-5:40, right when it was supposed to be done. The sign on the door said that they were open until 7:00. However, the door was locked! I saw an employee inside and indicated that I was there to pick up my food and he said sorry - they're closed! I could even see boxes of take-out ready on the counter! This was very strange to me - not good business. I work downtown and when I go get food, it is on a break - I had to take extra time, go to another restaurant, order, wait for it to be ready and then go eat while working because I was out of time. I do not recommend this restaurant for take-out. And, be aware that they apparently have weird hours that are different than what is posted on their door (see other reviews - this is not a one-time occurrence.) read more

Very surprised to read so many poor reviews. I have always had good food and tried their chicken shawarma pita for the first time yesterday. It was absolutely delicious and had so much flavor. I added tzaziki and it was even better. I also made it a combo and got a HUGE container of rice that will last me a week. Only reason it wasn't a 5 was that they can be slow sometimes.
