Came in today for a chicken shawarma, walked in and place is clean and nicely lit, plenty of seating, I was asked what I would like right away. So service was great. I asked for the chicken shawarma in a sub but there was no sub at the time so I did the pita wrap. The shawarma lacked something like an umph. As someone who eats chicken shawarma often it wasn't the best. It had visibly to the eye, garlic sauce, chicken and pickles but lacking in flavor. It was brought out to me within 5 minutes though so that was nice. It's just flavor wise very "one" tone. Tasted like I was eating slightly seasoned chicken and pickles. I've had much better. I wanted to try this location since I go to Wayne State University and it was super close but won't go for the chicken shawarma again or any teas now that I know it's a "make your own tea" tea. I also decided after eating my food to get a tea. I ended up choosing a lemon ginger tea. I thought it would be brewed or made in the back. Nope it was a teabag and a cup of water that was brought to me. $3.31 for one teabag? I could go to Meijer or Walmart and get a whole BOX of tea for $3-4 dollars. read more

Went during a slow time right around 5pm. Atmosphere is cozy and simple without any significant decorations to distract. The fact there we no TVs is a major boost for me. The quiet ambiance is great for taking a break from the hustle of a normal day. Waitress knew the menu and made some great suggestions (like the mixed grill plate) and turn me toward the mango orange smoothie which would not have been a normal choice considering the winter season. Drink was good, though I've had better. The food suggestion was spot on however and while not for the standard college student, tasted great and came with plenty. Order the Hot Chicken and Turkey Bacon Salad. It's a lebanese salad in a honey mustard dressing with chopped grilled chicken, onion and turkey bacon. I ordered it without parmesean cheese to make it dairy-free and gluten-free. I ordered the small version which was huge and it was fantastic! Our service was on-point and she kept checking on us. I was at the law library studying and then I got hungry. I really didn't feel like cooking lunch so I came here to get take out. On the weekends you can only get dinner portions which is fine since it last two meals for me. The whole process of ordering and getting my food was pretty fast. I ordered the chicken shawarma with a side salad. Also comes with pita but it was a bit tough. I like how they give you the garlic sauce. I love the garlic sauce. I have been to places where they don't give you the garlic sauce. I did wish it comes with hummus to go with the pita they give you. I really like their mini pickles. Too cute. The chicken was a bit tough but you get a lot. I will probably be back. Maybe I'll try something new. read more

I needed catering and I needed it for a lot of people and for cheap. Byblos came through for me. All of the other restaurants could not get it less than $7 a person. But Byblos? It was $4 a pita sandwich -- which were pretty sizable! I ordered 100 chicken shwarma and falafel sandwiches, some babaganoush and hummus. The designs on the babaganoush and hummus were SO pretty! It LOOKED good. And the sandwiches were assembled right, delicious, and still hot. They packed everything up really well ready to be served. With extra pitas, napkins, plates and plasticware the damage was a reasonable $560. To feed over 100 people! The manager, Brian, was very helpful and was able to accommodate me no problem. My only problem was the chicken shwarma is dry... it's always dry. But damn, that was a tasty cheap sandwich. It had the sauce, pickles, pickled turnip, and tomatoes. If you want to feed a lot of people for cheap, and you don't want Chinese or pizza or crappy Subway sandwiches -- Byblos is your place for catering. read more

Byblos- Seriously, Bro, let me tell you the truth. I love you. Like for real. I get that you don't have like 3 Michelin stars or anything and I see the alley cats hanging around your garbage cans or whatever. But seriously, I love you. You have $5 shwarma with the thickest, most garlicky garlic sauce I've come up on in a long long while. When I feel like some all-American ethnic junk-food remix I get that Chicken-Fries-Wrap good-good. That weird, super tangy, only-Byblos-barbeque sauce keeps me up at night. It's like 1990's Chinese food restaurant red barbeque pork sparerib sauce meets Ronald McDonald holding a jug of vinegar and a tiny bottle of Tabasco. Do you double fry your fries? Are your fries actually battered? Either way, they're bomb. Your Fattoush is fire. Whenever I'm eating lunch with somebody and they get a regular garden salad as their side for their lunch combo and they really want a salad, I enjoy looking at their defeated faces when my Fattoush rolls around to the table covered in crisp, olive-oily, highly seasoned fried pita bits. I'm like "And wha??" Byblos, why do you insist on serving your side salad on tiny plates? It's dumb. It doesn't make me think there is more salad because you heap it on a tiny plate. It just makes a big mess. Put it on a normal plate, homie. Give me less. I don't like spilling greens all over the table. It's uncivilized. I've ordered most of the menu. I secretly like your super-thin, prison grade lentil soup gruel. My favorite order is Shish Tawook wrap+ extra pickles + bbq sauce +no lettuce + Tabouli, fattoush, Turkish Coffee. Things I like about Byblos: 1. Inexpensive. Even with a pop and soup or salad added, my meal has never topped ten bucks. 2. Huge portion sizes. I ask for a to go container when I order and stash 2/3 of my food in it before I even start eating. I usually get another full meal and a snack out of the leftovers. 3. Lebanese versions of foods I love. The American stuff on the menu is all done with a Lebanese flair. They use zatar as a spice in a lot of the foods. Yum. 4. A wonderful, wonderful place. These friendly folks went out of their way to cater a vegetarian platter for a big group of us attending a conference at WSU, and we were not disappointed. The hummus and baba ghanoush were off the hook, and the grape leaves were some of the best I've had. The falafel was better than I've had in Philly, for sure, but not the best I've had overall. The Turkish coffee was strong and delicious, as we were treated to it while waiting for the platter. If Byblos isn't the best in the area, I can only imagine how good other places are. Excellent food...had the Mixed Grill which included chicken, kafta and lamb skewers. The food was grilled to perfection and all was tender and juicy. Started out with the spicy potatoes which were tangy and with the right amount of spices. Good start to what was the last meal out in Detroit. The one thing I didn't understand was the fact that the place was empty. Usually empty restaurants are indicators to bad quality food or bad service but that was not the case for this restaurant. I've dined in and done carry-out, and Byblos is a well-rounded place to grab lunch. They have a small but comfortable seating area, so I usually would dine-in more than I did carry out. The service was fast and friendly - not something I'd necessarily expect from a place on the edge of campus. The only thing I would have a complaint with is the portions - compared to others, the portions here seem a bit small. You know, if I'm going to throw $5 down for some Hummus, I want it to feed at least two people (because I"m still a growing boy!). It seems that this problem with portions only affects certain dishes like the Hummus - not the rice, for example, or the Lamb Shawarma dinner. Byblos is right across the street from my work, so I eat here rather often. That having been said, it's a solid choice. Being on a grad school budget, I normally get one of their Byblos pita wraps, which all hover around the $4.25 range. Every one I've had has been tasty, although the meat shawarma is probably my favorite. They're super filling, although make sure to ask for extra napkins as they can also be super messy. A few weeks ago I needed lunch and was craving a club sandwich, so I shamefully ordered an American item off their menu. Holy crap was it delicious! It is essentially an Arabic take on the American classic, using Arabic pickled veggies instead of diner pickles and a delicious carved ham instead of lunch meats. An added bonus? Fries! Wonderful, wonderful fries! And by wonderful, I mean possibly the best fries in Detroit. Really, you can't go wrong with Byblos if you're in the mood for Arabic in Detroit. This place has been a mainstay of WSU's campus for the 15 years I have worked there. A large group of us stopped in for a late lunch and sat right down. One server did a great job with the 10 of us. My falafel burger was great. Delicious, not mushy and no horrible garlic breath and heartburn the rest of the day. I need to go here more often! read more

Thank goodness for Byblos! I live on Chicken Schwarma during my twelve hour school days. The Seattle's Best coffee is a decent alternative to the machine coffee we get in the basement of our building, as well :) My one complaint, the service leaves a whole lot to be desired....in some instances, I'm thinking it's due to be understaffed and some servers are wholly apologetic about it, which I totally understand. However, sometimes its just bad when they're dead. And I mean bad as in slow, unfriendly, unapologetic, and never come back to see if we need anything else or liked our food....total bummer. I'm reviewing the catering they do every Monday at Henry Ford Hospital in downtown Detroit. I've never been to their actual restaurant but if what they serve at the cafeteria is not representative of their food they shouldn't put their name on it. Stuff is overpriced and their chicken is more often overcooked than not. It's like they never bother to taste the batches of food. Byblos is close to Wayne State's Law and Nursing School making it a popular place for faculty/staff and students. I was there at noon and the place wasn't packed which scared me. The menu was extensive with vegetarian and meat options. I had the chicken sharwarma wrap and it was great. The hummus was also very good. I think the prices are very good. Being as it's located on Cass, it seems to get vandalized frequently and have spray painted graffiti on the exterior. I feel bad for the owners so I try to patronize as much as I can because it takes guts to have a restaurant on cass! I reccomend Byblos for a quick, authentic mediterranean lunch. Byblos is awesome Lebanese food in the northern area of the WSU campus. Its a trek here from Lafayette in Downtown, but I walked it proudly for my helpings of falafel wrap and lentil soup. They were cheap, extremely tasty, and quick. Restaurant was busy but nothing too insane. Busy enough to rest easy that people weren't avoiding it like the plague. Three or four, its hard to decide. Three and a half though, definitely. Located in the University/Midtown district of Detroit, this is a favorite hang out of students and those looking for huge portions for good prices. I came here at the wish of my girlfriend, as she wanted to show me one of her first/favorite Detroit diners. I wasn't expecting much, given that the decor is dated and it is definitely a university style place. The menu has some pretty interesting stuff, ranging from their "famous" quesadillas, to the dish that shares the name of the business. Given that it was a Greek restaurant, they had some surprisingly unique choices that I haven't seen at other Greek establishments. Those I mentioned above, as well as a few others. In the end, I ordered the Byblos, which had chicken, as well as rice and several vegetables in it. My girl got the chicken quesadilla. And honestly, I was shocked at how great her food was. Totally taken aback that a Greek restaurant could make that bitchin' of a quesadilla. My food was good, not stellar, but good. The portion though was totally out of control large. Very happy with what I received. Service was good, nothing to write home about. Price wise, I was very happy with what our bill came to. There are a handful of areas where they are just "good" at what they do. Not amazing, not terrible, just good. Overall, I will probably be stopping here more often once I transfer to Wayne State next year. It definitely has its hooks in me as a good place to go. read more

Admittedly, I am somewhat biased toward Byblos as I often go there for lunch, being across the street from the law school. Basically, I like this place a lot. I have never disliked anything I've eaten here, and that's saying quite a bit for a Lebanese restaurant (not because I dislike the food; rather, the restaurants themselves are hit or miss). The falafel sandwich is quite good, though admittedly not one of the best I've had - that honor goes to myself, and the old Sheesh in Clawson. THe last time I was at Byblos, actually, I had the falafel burger, which was somewhat of a departure from what I would normally get. It was, however, surprisingly good. I'd probably order it again. Aside from falafel, Byblos also makes a mean za'atar pie. Served with a small fattoush (at least, when you get carry out), it makes a great lighter meal. Also good for a light meal is the foul, which is served with a good selection of pickles and other garnishes - perfect for making little foul sandwiches. A good place for locals and WSU students, for sure. read more

The food is great. This is a review on the delivery person, Abraham Abraham. I placed an order at 12:41pm on 1/24/18 for a 5:00pm delivery on 1/25/18 . I did not receive my food until 5:57pm 1/25/18... after the driver kept telling me he was at the destination. He had the wrong address but would not apologize nor would he tell the truth as to where he was at with my food. This isn't the first time that I ordered a larger order from Byblos, but this is the first time that I'm complaining, and the first time that this has happened. The driver is Abraham Abraham, and he lied to me and to Sarah, who I spoke to many times. Sarah was very professional and apologetic and tried her best to remedy the situation. Abraham first wanted me to come out to get my food, which is not what delivery means. As a delivery driver, he is supposed to deliver my items. Abraham also had my number to call, but he didn't notify me until 5:43pm to tell me that he was at a location (it was the wrong address). This was after he informed Sarah that he was outside. He lied earlier when he said he was outside waiting on me to get my food...he wasn't outside, and I was not going to go outside to get my food anyway. I have been fortunate to have class across the street from Byblos for a few years and enjoy many a lunch break here. I'm pretty sure you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. It's all fresh, seasoned just right, and plentiful in portion size. My favorite is the fattoush salad. Their hummus and pita sandwiches are great too. It is a little dirty on the inside and I did find a HUGE bug in my salad one time. The food is just so good I'm willing to look past that.
