We had breakfast here with our baby and asked for a well-cooked scrambled egg for her. The waitress brought an egg that was still coated in raw egg all over, one of the runniest most undercooked eggs I've ever been served, no exaggeration. I asked if they could cook it more, which I never do, I never send things back bc I'm afraid of insulting the person's cooking skills who is handling my food. But this egg was still clucking. She took the plate, walked into the kitchen, we heard chopping sounds for 2 seconds and she brought it immediately back. She was gone with it for seriously under 30 seconds. She set it on the table and announced "I didn't want to turn it brown" and walked away. The egg was exactly the same doneness, but now chopped up. I don't know why I let this peer pressure make me second guess my judgment and intuition, but we were traveling due to a family tragedy and I was just tired and stressed and needed to feed my hungry baby. So I fed her the egg. Halfway through, my breakfast was brought to the table with a well-cooked egg on the plate, so I swapped hers for mine. I guess Border just feels really strongly that adults need fully cooked eggs and babies need raw ones. Later that night, my baby vomited. Then again. And again. She vomited 7 times all through the night. I vomited once. Diarrhea all day yesterday for both of us. We didn't get to go see our sick family member, for whom we flew across the country. It was just such a huge stroke of bad luck that I felt the need to share... I hate to ream a humble business, but serving a raw egg to somebody for a baby is not cool. Especially when they asked it well cooked. And then to refuse to cook it more when asked. By a mom who is trying to protect her baby. And to pretend they had cooked it more when they clearly hadn't. Please listen to mothers when we advocate for our children. We truly know best for them. read more

Must stop for family home cooked breakfast! When you walk in, you seat yourself. My husband and I were visiting a friend and they recommended this place for breakfast. Our waitress Lisa was fantastic. The prices take you back in time! Such a cute place, they have a bar to sit at, they have a train in the window on the left side. You would not believe how much seating is available inside from the looks on the outside. My husband ordered the mountain man. The bacon is cooked to perfection. Order lots of bacon! I ordered the Polish omelette with a side of corn beef hash. The corn beef hash was good. Also, order a side of their apple butter for the buttery biscuits. Parking was available across the street. It's very much a classic American breakfast house experience. Friendly, experienced staff serving all the regular breakfast foods like pancakes and omelets. Prices are excellent and portions plentiful but they only have sodas by the bottle so expect to pay for refills. Keep it simple! Eggs, bacon potatoes and a biscuit. The place does the simple breakfasts and lunches right. They offer a nice selection of omelettes and combo platters. The Polish omelet with the kielbasa is a favorite of mine, sometimes. My neighbors and I have become regulars on Saturday mornings. It's always a nice experience. The "cawfee" is endless and there is no rush here. It is truly a throwback greasy spoon restaurant that I kinda miss these days. And here is a tip, they open at 4am. The cutest little breakfast place in town. It's a little hole in the wall on north main. My husband and I love this place. The staff is pretty much the same. They all very friendly and sweet. They talk up my kids. The prices are great too. It's so inexpensive here compared to most places in town. The owners come pretty often too. It just has such a family atmosphere and I feel so welcome when I'm here. I cannot explain it in words that will do it justice. The food is great. I've never ordered anything I didn't like. Man I can't believe how cheap this place is ..... it was 4 of us having breakfast and the bill didn't even make it to $30. $30 is what I pay for 2 people at any other breakfast place. And what about the quality ? Was I blown away ? Nope, it was just ok though and if I would have had to pay more I would be complaining. So basically the quality was on par with the price. If you are looking for a modern, franchise looking breakfast place then don't go, you'll be disappointed. If you want to try breakfast at a place with a small town feel then give it a shot. First timer at this relic Wake Forest restaurant. Hubby wanted to go out to breakfast so off we went. Positives are the prices are lowest of any place I've seen. Servers are pretty awesome as well. It's seat yourself type of place, the decor looks original (as in 20+ years). I ordered a veggie omelette minus the shrooms and onions. It came with onions but not a big deal. My omelette however was extremely runny. The potatoes are boiled and then fried on grill. Everything lacked seasoning. Guess you get what you pay for. Under $20 for 2 meals without drinks. Stopped by near the end of breakfast service on a rainy Saturday morning. Its a busy restaurant walking aisles are narrow with two separate seating areas. After standing around looking lost we were told to seat ourselves if we could find a spot, I'm not feeling any love from the hostess/waitstaff at this point. Service was slow but they were busy and appeared to be short staffed. Prices were ridiculously low and breakfast food was served cold the coffee was hot. The atmosphere is old school diner which I usually love but I was distracted by the water stained ceiling. A lot of cleaning and maintenance to freshen up the dining rooms and a sunnier disposition at the front of the house would make this diner more appealing to me. read more

I'm back at my regular job finally! But very unfortunately, months before that, the manager here, Valerie, decided to let me off of the job because i was late to work to be exact, 2 times. I can acknowledge that i was obviously very wrong for my actions, regarding my reasoning, i still have no excuse to ever be late for work without calling in before hand. So my apologies! And i'm not writing this because i was let off, i'm writing this because the person who actually cared about this place won't ever be there again to help their customer's out. I'll go ahead and say the food, amazing. I loved the food here! I can also communicate to you all that their kitchen is very clean and they do take that very seriously. However... let's talk about all the ladies that work here :/ My very FIRST DAY working here as a server, as an 18 year old girl, working here with much older elderly ladies, I was cheated out of my tip money that was split upon three people as in Vicky, Michelle, and I. Michelle thought it would be smart to steal 20$ of my tips and split it among her and Vicky. I could always tell Vicky was the quiet one. She was pretty nice, it was always Michelle that started gossip and being that Vicky had been her friend for decades she kind of just goes along with it. So yeah the next day Vicky came up to me and returned my money to me saying she apologized. I felt bad because i knew it wasn't her idea. They returned the money to me to begin with because I said something to my manger that i suspected it. She told me word for word "Oh they definitely stole your money. They are those types of people" You're probably wondering, how come they didn't get fired for literally stealing my money? I know right. But it gets better! These ladies stole my money damn near everyday, I never said anything or confronted them because I just never felt like it was worth it. Maybe they were struggling and needed it more than me. Even though i'm struggling too, I know that i at least have God in my life and very close to my heart. I knew he would take care of them for me. To continue, All these ladies do is talk horrifically about every single one of you customers that walk through that door. Even the manager did sometimes, TO ME! They do nothing but complain about you all, i don't care how long you have known them whether it was years or decades, I promise you they don't have your back and they care nothing about you except your money. If you knew me you knew i genuinely formed deep connections with my customers and i genuinely cared about them all. If you know me you know!!! It's so disgusting how they treat you all and i quit once before because of how nasty they were to not only you guys but to me too because i was young and all of the customers loved me, maybe they never thought it was because i actually give good service. Not just because i was young. One time, there were 2 women having breakfast with us that heard one of the ladies talk crap about them as she was walking off and they confronted her in front of the whole restaurant. It was so embarrassing. Anyways I just want to warn you all in advance that you can come here and you can give your money to these people if you want to, but they disgust you behind closed doors and will make fun of you and paint a picture of you to everyone that works here whether it's that you smell weird, you stink, you look funny, etc. They are horrible people. And to those who thought of me dearly, I'm still thinking of you and i won't ever forget any of you. You all play such a beautiful part in my life. It isn't fair that I can no longer have my job here because i was late twice, but at least I never stole my coworkers money or talked horribly about any of you. I care so much about people. Oh and deeply consider that the manager here, Valerie knows alllllll about every bit of this! Matter of fact she even talks crap WITH the girls after hours, about you all! It was much better over a year ago when Jerry was still running the place. He's a great guy and gives the service that is deeply deserved. Too bad he's gotten too old to take care of the place anymore. I will be praying over everyone at this restaurant to find peace in their lives, i hope it's not too late. Ps. If you do still come here, keep in mind the dishwasher lady comes and busses down tables to help with the servers as you may see sometimes, especially when it's busy, but while she does that she is snagging all of the tip you just left on the table for herself. Great little gem in the historic part of Wake Forest. Don't let the parking area deter you, we parked in the Pelicans lot. Borders is a quaint place, been there for 27 years and many of the diners are old-timer regulars. The waitresses are all very friendly and know customers by name. Prices are great! Many breakfast combo options, priced around $5.99! Rib eye steak combos are a bit more. Two egg plates come with many options and include potatoes or grits and toast or a biscuit. OJ small will set you back about $1.59, large around $2. Food is prepared fast and is done right. Decor is very diner appropriate, atmosphere is casual and very friendly. There are a few TVs if you want to catch up on news. We will definitely be back! Easy to see why Borders is a local favorite. Inexpensive, good food served by friendly people. read more

While perusing the Wake Forest area for breakfast/brunch places my siblings and I decided to check this place out. Full confession: seemingly everywhere else was either closed or impossible to get seating. We grabbed a booth and were given menus. Our jaws practically hit the floor at the incredible prices!! I think everyone these days is used to paying substantially for breakfast or brunch at sit-down restaurants, including the usual chains. The Border Restaurant offers big portions for small change, and that's practically an anomaly in today's restaurant landscape. I ordered a Polish omelette (kielbasa with American and provolone cheese) with fried potatoes, a biscuit, and an additional side of corn beef hash. Perfectly satisfying and filling. The prices were so overwhelmingly decent I was tempted to order even more items just to try them, but held off and am glad I did because I couldn't have eaten them anyway. Been wanting to try this place for over a year now, there is always a ton of people in & out so we thought it's gotta be a great little cafe. We went in about 1030am on a Friday, it's a seat yourself kinda place so we did & the server was right with us. BF had biscuits & gravy with eggs and I had a ribeye with a side of 2 eggs, I added sour cream & salsa. The eggs were amazing! The steak very thinly cut and a little salty. I don't think the bf liked his very much he only ate half & brought the rest home & just pushed it around in the fridge since. Service was amazing, price was right, food was ok.
