You're surrounded by a great, down-to-earth crowd, and it feels like a true mountain community rather than a typical hotel. The staff were outstanding across the board. Everyone was helpful and welcoming, even with the challenges of the storm. The biggest highlight for our family was the food team. Our son has a dairy allergy, and they went above and beyond to accommodate him. They clearly communicated which foods were safe, and on multiple occasions prepared separate options just for him. That level of care made a huge difference for us and gave us real peace of mind. A special thank you to Juan, who was incredibly helpful throughout our stay. From assisting with the reservation, to coordinating with the kitchen, to being a consistent and reliable point of contact, he made everything smooth and easy. If you're looking for a unique, authentic Sierra lodge experience with great people and genuinely caring staff, this is a special place. We would absolutely come back.

I highly recommend it for short stays while skiing near Sugar Bowl. Myra, Andrew, and the cook, Sue, make you feel like part of the family. Very rustic and absolutely fabulous.

We arrived shortly after check-in time on a Wednesday and were able to get our keys without too much trouble, although the lady that was checking us in didn't seem too suited for customer service - she gave off sarcastic, "I don't want to be here" vibes. Our room itself was cozy, clean, and comfortable. Some of the items could have been better stocked before our stay, such as the tissues - I think we only had a few of them in the box so quickly ran out and had to request housekeeping bring more the next day. Housekeeping isn't done daily so you do have to request it manually if you need anything. There were a couple of water stains on the ceiling but nothing too major. All toiletries like shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, lotion, and hand soap are provided and the quality is actually pretty decent. I was very impressed with the complimentary breakfast included in your stay. You have hot items like eggs, potatoes, and sausage as well as cereal, muffins, bread, oatmeal, and a waffle maker. The hot items rotate, too, so you don't have the exact same breakfast each day of your stay. Staff was friendly, and the common area was very comfortable with a fair amount of seating. I believe coffee is also available all day. There was a power outage during our stay that lasted around 6-7 hours but luckily it happened in the middle of the night so most people probably didn't even realize it and it didn't impact our stay at all. I just happened to notice when I woke up in the middle of the night and noticed lights not turning on and some electronics not working.

This was a great stay in Truckee!…read more Appreciated the great service at the counter and easy check in. Breakfast is included like all Hampton Inns and is fine for a bite before the snow. I will definitely stay here again, only thing they don't have is products besides the basic shampoo/conditioner/body wash.... I like having some extra toiletries but not a huge deal.

The Dutch Flat Hotel is truly a hidden gem!…read more Tucked deep into the quaint town of Dutch Flat, CA, lies this homey and welcoming inn. We stayed in the Dentist Quarters Cabin which was a delight! It's a compact house complete with a picket-fenced yard and rockers on the front porch. The inside is a collection of antiques and modern amenities so carefully curated it could be featured in a magazine! We dined at the restaurant where we ate top notch food while sitting in front of a wood burning fire. The experience we had here far exceeded my expectations and we will definitely be back!

Everyone ordered at the counter, and the staff brought the food out to our table. The service was friendly, and the food arrived quickly, especially considering the size of our group. I ordered the Prospector's Burger and added bacon. The burger itself was excellent. It was juicy, flavorful, and easily the standout item of the meal. If I'm being honest, I probably wouldn't pay extra for the bacon again because it didn't add much to the overall burger, but the burger itself was absolutely worth ordering. I also tried the pesto chicken sandwich. The flavor was good, and the pesto was tasty, but it could have used a little more chicken and filling overall. The bread was fresh, and it was still an enjoyable sandwich. The fries were a bit overcooked for my taste and ended up being a little too crispy. One person in our group ordered the clam chowder special and unfortunately found it so salty that it was difficult to eat. Even with those few critiques, we had a good experience. The burger was excellent, the atmosphere was relaxed, the beer selection was solid, and the staff was friendly. We'd definitely stop in again if we were passing through Dutch Flat.

Sierra Inn - They brought a couple of these down from the hotel for us to sit in. Without asking. Kinda cool.

Service was perfect and they even made us breakfast and dinner. There is a great outdoor fire pit next to the river with plenty of wood and we made use of it at nights enjoying the calm and fresh air of the sierras. I just can't recommend this place enough.

The floors, fixtures, beds, railings, and EVERYTHING outside is either new or well maintained. There's nothing old and tired here, with only a couple of exceptions. The property has a fair amount of frontage on the American River, which looks like it'd be a nice place to fish, although I did not try it. Adirondack chairs, fire pits, strings of lights overhead, and a tiny creek burbling into the American River all create a sense of peace and relaxation. Down by the river, you can hardly hear traffic noise from Highway 50, just a hundred yards away. So why only three stars? And what were the exceptions? The biggest problem is one of overall comfort. Our room was inexplicably stuffy. We tried opening the windows to get some cross-ventilation, but not much was happening there. Plus, with the blinds, which do a GREAT job of blocking out light, also unfortunately blocked any potential airflow through the unit, so if we wanted any flow, we had to keep the window AND blinds open, and anybody walking past could see clearly into the room. There was a portable air conditioner in the room, which helped bring the temperature down, but it came at a cost: it was noisy. So noisy it made it hard to sleep. So we either were kept awake because we were uncomfortably warm, or we were kept awake by the portable A/C unit. And if we opened the window in hopes of some airflow, we got a lot of highway noise, because the second floor of the motel was right at highway level. There's one smaller issue related to the remodel: not enough electrical outlets. For a place that was probably built in the 1950s, the number of outlets was probably typical. Now, however, we travel with stuff that needs charging overnight. The desk clerk had an unusual attitude, too. When we checked in, it felt like an interrogation. Rather than ask questions, he blurted them out as if they were accusations. "NAME?" "PETS?" There was no greeting, and there were no pleasantries. Not necessarily rude or hostile, but certainly not welcoming, either. Lastly, and this is neither a plus or a minus, but rather a point of nostalgia. It's probably been at least 25 years since we've seen a room key with a plastic tag on it. Most lodging places have gone to cardkey locks of one sort or another, so it was actually kind of a cool throwback to have a real key with an iconic diamond-shaped tag. Would we stay at the Sierra Inn on the River again? Possibly. But if the weather was warm, we now know to run the A/C immediately to bring the temperature down before we settle into a nighttime routine.
