We have tried other snowmobiling tours in the Tahoe area, and I have to say, Coldstream Adventures is top rated. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable (knowledgeable about the area but also very experienced regarding safety/snowmobiling). The tour was fun and absolutely beautiful, with breathtaking views. A must for people of all experience levels. Thank you for a wonderful time and we are already looking forward to our next Tahoe vacation!

Ready and waiting for you after your tour so they can charge you for any "damage"
    Stephanie M.

Beware this horrendous place that could cost you significantly more money than you planned for. TLDR: I was charged $200 for "damage" that wasn't my fault after almost getting injured riding one of their snowmobiles. When I mentioned their mobile could've gotten me seriously hurt, I was told too bad because I signed a waiver. The longer story: I was thrown onto an old snowmobile and almost got hurt because the snowmobile toppled over because it couldn't withstand basic snow bumps that our tour guides brought us to. When I returned, they realized the windshield had broken and charged me $200. Not only is this outrageous because it's much more expensive than what it actually costs (attached), but they showed no sympathy or empathy. They were actually mean, kept throwing the waiver in my face, and telling me it was entirely my fault. When I mentioned I could've gotten seriously injured, they just told me I took all liability in the waiver. So glad to be giving my money to people who don't care at all about my well being because they're not legally liable- hooray! I looked back at the waiver and there's a tiny little paragraph at the end that holds you liable for damages at a "cost determined by the company" - see attached for their cost sheet that wasn't shown at time of the waiver. Not only are these prices egregious, these items that might not even be your fault for being damaged might be thrown into your bill and they make it impossible for you to defend. The tour guides were incredibly nice. The cruel owners and expensive after charge and almost getting hurt makes this not worth it. I've done tours with Tahoe Snowmobiles and North Tahoe Winter Adventures and loved them. Would recommend them instead

    Our views from the top.

I would HIGHLY recommend Cold Stream for your snowmobile tour. These folks are great. It was super easy to book our reservations online. They sent out text reminders for the event. When we arrived we were greeted and directed where to park. We booked a 2-hr public tour and lucked out because along with our group of 8 there was only one additional couple that was part of our tour. It basically felt like a private tour. After arriving you're asked to fill out waivers, then they set you up with helmets and goggles that are included as part of the package. From there you're introduced to your tour guide and they go over safety and riding techniques. As firs time snowmobilers some of the pointers the guide covers sound a bit overwhelming and even scary. However, once you get to riding, it's pretty straightforward. Some of the techniques covered are really more for "just in case" moments. The trails you go on are supposed to be the most "advanced" of all the tours in the area, but there wasn't a point where any of us felt the trails were too far from our comfort zone to ride. We felt safe at all times and were able to ride confidently. Our tour guide was Jake. He was fantastic and provided super clear instructions for riding and what to expect. During the ride he constantly checked back on the group to make sure we were all together and everyone was good. Jake took us to some great views and even provided a history lesson on what we were looking at. Helped us with our photos so we could all get in our group shots. I'm not sure if you can request tour guides, but I'd highly recommend him. The entire crew at Cold Stream was awesome. This was no doubt a 5 out of 5 experience for us.

My husband and his best friend surprised us and we had a fun ass day of riding snow mobiles! Dustin was our tour guide and he was amazing!!!! The views were so beautiful and Dustin shared some historical facts with us. We also loved his pup Indigo! She was a sweet fur baby! Would love to do this again! Every staff member who helped us was also super nice and helpful. Thank you cold stream adventures!

What an epic experience this was! I HIGHLY recommend this company. We rented several snowmobiles for my husbands 40th birthday while on a trip with friends. The guides were friendly, excited to share their love for adventure and nature and give you the experience of a lifetime! The two hour tour was a perfect mix of learning to drive, casual driving through trails and no limits driving on a "track" in an open field. The breathe taking views at lookout points on the ridge were overwhelmingly amazing! I highly recommend this company as they will give you an experience of a lifetime!

If you want to go snowmobiling, then look no further. The gang at Cold Stream Adventures are awesome!!! Thanks to Dustin and Noah for being great tour guides, and making sure we were all safe and having fun. Thanks to Peter and Rafael for a smooth and easy check in. We had a blast!!

Would give 10 stars if I could. I went with 3 other girls and we did the 2 Hour Public Snowmobile Tour on Double Snowmobiles. It was our first time and all of us girls had such a memorable experience. EVERYONE and I mean EVERY one was friendly and so informative starting from check-in at the parking lot with Ronan to our helmet fitting and instruction/safety overview with our tour guides, Gumby and Sheraton. The snowmobiles were easy to use and there's always one guide in the back that checks in on you if you're having any difficulty steering. The snowmobiles themselves were in great condition and the seats were very cushiony. The handlebars had heating options on them, but I recommend wearing handwarmers in your gloves/mitts. We wore our snow gear and half of us wore snowboard boots or waterproof hiking boots. The first half of the tour was going uphill, then it was a pitstop to look at the views up on top to take pics and learn some history, then we went to the meadows where it was a big open circle area and we all had a chance to test out our skills or learn how to use the snowmobile better for about 15min or so. ALLL of us girls loved that portion. Then we stopped at 2 or 3 other spots for scenic views and pics. Thennnn it was the downhill portion which I loved. There were these hilly areas where we got some air if we went fast enough, but was still very much in control. It was quite the adrenaline rush. Overall, I would 1000% recommend this to anyone who's looking to do a snowmobile tour in Truckee/Reno/Lake Tahoe area. It's close to Northstar so if you're going there for the weekend, make time for this tour the next morning. It was money VERYYY well spent. I would definitely come back and book a private backcountry tour.

Everything was fantastic. The reservation and all the information prior to arrival was perfect and allowed us to prepare. Upon arrival we were greeted by the friendly staff. Gumby was our guide and he was great. Justin was also very helpful in making sure the entire group had a good time. Very thourough orientation and was happy to help in any way he could to make our experience great. And it was. There were four in my party and all had a great time.

    Angela S.

Fantastic afternoon with Coldstream Adventures! 7 of us took a public tour with Ronan and Max and had a great time! Beautiful views from vistas in the Sierras and fun in the meadow where we got to try out the machines with some speed and corners! Highly recommend!

Shoutout to Thor our cool guide!
    Donna A.

Hands down, best snowmobile tour experience! Every staff member was super friendly, helpful and outgoing. This was our first snow tour and we had a memorable time. Wolf explained all the waivers to us. Our guide, Thor, was the best and just a cool guy all around. He made sure he accommodated everyone in the group, including the family with kids. Even when I lost my phone (from accidently tipping over) he went back to find it for me. So thankful! Btw, they had a porty potty at the check-in & at top of the meadow where we stopped half way. Tips: * Get there early to complete waivers/forms * Bring warm gear (gloves/boots/ + shades/goggles) they provide helmet and some of the other listed items above * Secure your phone/camera (in a zipped pocket/backpack) * Tip your guide if your satisfied Current Prices: Single rider- $175 Double riders- $195

Another stop. It was good time to take in the gorgeous sights.

My husband brought me up to Truckee for a job he was doing. I got bored in the hotel and I'm deathly afraid of a gondola. I found this tour on the things to do website. I have never drove a snow mobile before or very many ATV's. I thought I would just cruise with my group and enjoy the beautiful scenery.... I was a single rider and when I seen other single riders speed up and I found this jump... it was all over. I found myself riding at max speed and taking jumps in a meadow. I'm 43 and sometimes I feel 83 but not this day! Wolfy and his sis were our guides and they were the best anyone could of asked for. It is a lot of work to pull out a stuck mobile even more so out of 8 inches of fresh powder. They encouraged the excitement in me. He recorded my riding and took photos of great views for me to show my family. Thank you Wolfy and please tell your sis to forgive me for forgetting her name in my. I'm sorry.

My husband purchased a 3 hour private snowmobile tour for me as a Christmas gift. Let me tell you, this was probably the most fun that you can have legally! Our guide, Wolf was able to evaluate our abilities quickly and have the perfect tour for us. We went on trails that were fresh and exciting. Our daughter got to drive in the meadow and we got to open it up and experience some really exciting trails. Gorgeous scenery. Wolf was nice, conscientious, and knew the area well. We felt safe the whole time and really were able to relax and experience the beauty of Truckee. You can't go wrong by booking with this company. If you have a guide, ask for Wolf! We will definitively be back!

Geology Tours Tahoe, feels like you're in a Jumani type of adventure with fun hands-on science learning and experience. Signing up for this I didn't know what to expect, as this is beyond my comfort zone, dealing with high terrain, and digging for crystals. But Dr. Montana Hodges made the event so fun in a way that even a non-science person like myself was really engaged. We traveled 45 minutes up a bumpy road with plenty of beverages and snacks that would have lasted a few days! Then we made it to our destination where we learned of the history of Crystal Peak, and how the Truckee river came to be and the various Prehistoric eras. There were plenty of tools to pick and choose from in a group of 7 of us. This definitely was a Sunday adventure to never forget. I was able to luckily find a crystal, so I felt accomplished. There are several tours that Montana provides that I would love to attend! She is very engaging and personable that I felt a connection to Science that I may not have had when I was taking Geology in College. It was neat to learn about Jurassic park, and how the dinosaurs were technically from a different prehistoric era than depicted. Also given the fact that Montana dedicated half of her day to take us on our high terrain excursion, and then had a long hours drive ahead of her the same day was beyond impressive! I'll definitely be looking to plan another Tour adventure and see what other learnings are in store!

Chollar Mine Tour - A Glimpse into the Golden Age of Virginia City…read more Recommended by locals, I made my way to the Chollar Mine, once the 5th largest mine during the 19th-century Gold Rush era. In its prime, it yielded an overwhelming amount of gold--worth millions of dollars then and easily billions in today's value. Scattered across the grounds are authentic mining tools, giving visitors a sense of the equipment used back in the day. One highlight was the rock smasher, which the staff explained in detail. From the start, John and Gary gave me a warm welcome and patiently answered all my questions. Before we entered the mine, Gary provided a fascinating introduction to its history and operations--explaining how miners worked in 8-hour shifts, the intense conditions they faced underground, and how they coped with the heat from the geothermal groundwater. Equipped with a helmet, I followed the narrow tunnels where the ceiling is low enough to give you a bump if you're not careful. Along the old rail tracks used for transporting minerals, Gary demonstrated the rope-and-pulley system, drilling tools, and even how miners once relied on rats and candles to test air quality inside the mine. He also pointed out the split line in the rock that marked different mining outputs, giving a vivid sense of how geologists identified the veins. To make the experience more tactile, he even handed me some clay samples from the mine, so I could literally feel the earth that once hid so much gold. Unfortunately, visitors cannot go as deep into the mine as I had hoped--I wanted to experience the underground heat myself--but for safety reasons, the tour is limited. The cave can be slippery, and you'll often need to bend down to avoid injury. After the tour, Gary enthusiastically offered to take photos for guests, adding a personal touch to the visit. Beyond the tour itself, I learned that John now owns the mine, while Gary has written a novel that brings Virginia City's Golden Age to life. --- Final Thoughts The Chollar Mine Tour is more than just a history lesson--it's an immersive journey into the life of 19th-century miners. Thanks to the passion and effort of John and Gary, visitors can better appreciate the challenges, ingenuity, and culture of Virginia City's mining heritage. ---
