I've had a frustratingly inconsistent experience at this bakery. The menu simply lists "cheese" on certain sandwiches, without specifying what kind--no mention of yellow or white cheese. However, depending on the day (or who's working), I've been given completely different answers when asking for white cheese. Some visits, they've added white cheese without any issue. Other times, I've been told they "can't deviate from the menu." That would make sense if the menu actually specified a type of cheese--but it doesn't. If the menu is meant to be strict, then it should be clear and consistent. I'm not asking for a custom creation--just clarity and consistency. Either specify the type of cheese on the menu or allow a reasonable choice if it's not defined. Right now, it feels arbitrary, and that makes the experience disappointing. read more

We tried the matcha, and it was very sweet and delicious, also loved the pastelillo de guayaba. It was really big, good amount of filling, and was perfectly flaky. Everyone was friendly and nice. The bakery had a warm, welcoming atmosphere, playing salsa music too which was fun! read more

I recently ordered a Tripleta sandwich (three meats, steak, pernil and ham on a long flat roll with lettuce, tomato, etc.) and a Papas Rellenas by Door Dash. Sometimes, when you have a great version of a sandwich, less good versions of the sandwich eaten around then suffer by comparison. Such is the case with the Borinquen Tripleta. The meat wasn't as good as the other sandwich. The toppings weren't as good. The bread wasn't managed as well. The sandwich was fine. Average. But since Borinquen is near the other place, I wouldn't order a Tripleta from there again. I might try them for bakery goods. Really enjoyed trying this bakery. They have a large assortment of sweets including cakes, doughnuts and other pastries. We tried the carrot, lemon pound cake, coconut cake and red velvet. I personally loved the coconut cake. It was so moist, not overly sweet, just the perfect pillow. Service was fast and there were a few employees available to take orders. Seemed pretty busy on a weekday during lunch time with some patrons sitting inside enjoying their fare. Definitely plan to return when in the area. read more

To go order this time. They get pretty busy so I was lucky to find an empty parking spot. I had to wait a little bit to pick up my order but the ambiance inside was very bright and relaxed. Spanish music playing in the background, made me feel like I was on a resort island. After one visit, it's easy to see why Borinquen Bakery is known as one of the best Puerto Rican bakeries in the state. We were impressed with everything we had! Cases full of goodies, beautiful custom cakes, and even delicious lunch options. We went at 7:30am on a Sunday to avoid the line and look over the cases before they were picked over, and we're so glad that we did, because there was definitely a line by 8am. Ordered Cuban sandwich and asked to be cut in 3 parts. Response was "no". When I received my sandwich, it barely had pork meat and meat was dried. The little pork that was in the sandwich, was in the middle of the sandwich so it appears is enough. In addition, they used yellow cheese. Normally Cuban sandwich requires swiss cheese. This is the first time I am visiting a Puerto rican bakery. Prices were reasonable. there was a small line inside the store. Also the store had some tables and chairs. They also have a small parking lot attached to the side. Tembleque was my favorite item here. It was like a coconut pudding with some cinnamon sprinkled on top. It was not that sweet. Flancocho was a layer of flan on top of a layer of cake. They had a kind of ice cream similar to italian ice. I tried the parcha (passion fruit flavor) and it was good. We hadn't really read the 'fine print' of everyone's reviews, so we were pleasantly surprised to find that BB is a Puerto Rican bakery. I live far from Connecticut, and whenever I visit my family there, I have to get some baked goods to bring to my friends. I had issues before when one bakery (that shall not be named) had great baked goods one time, and the second time it was not tasty at all (the quesito was just cream cheese!) On my second visit to Borinquen Bakery, they still delivered! Their selection is great, and the flavors are consistent. I woke up This morning craving for some Farina, I decided to call the bakery and order it before taking my daughter to school. I've Haven't really ordered from this location however the location in Hartford I have ordered farina with cheese ALL The Time. apparently the New Britain location has an issue with adding an in-house ingredient to their farina. I spoke to one young lady to place the order and when I told her to please add cheese on top she immediately told me that they cannot do that. So I laughed because I thought she didn't understand my request. So I repeated my order and once again with a sharp tone she told me they do not serve it that way. They could only add sugar and cinnamon, but adding cheese on top is not something that they are willing to do. When I asked if they carry cheese she immediately asked to place me on hold, after almost 5mints on hold, another voice comes on the line and ask how could she help me. last month i went to puerto rico and had this amazing pastry called a mallorca at the mallorca cafe in old san juan. when i saw the existing review for Borninquen i knew i had to go - and luckily it was on the way to the liquor store i was heading to, so it was an easy trip. I think I was in at around 11am and they were still very busy but unfortunately they had sold out of the Mallorcas but i bought some other pastries including the very nice and fluffy guava pastry and they were all inexpensive and delicious.
