I previously reviewed this business based on transactions conducted by phone and over the internet. Albert takes all the time necessary to educate customers about his wonderful rugs, both by phone and online! I have purchased rugs from him three times. The first time, I bought two rugs from his website. The second time, it was three small rugs and a hallway runner in a size that is very difficult to find, as it is narrower than most runners. The most recent purchase was a rug he posted on Facebook that I couldn't resist. I always felt like Albert and I knew each other and I admired the trusting way he did business with me. But earlier this month, I was in Madison for a wedding. Our first stop was lunch and our second stop was Borokhim Oriental Rugs. So now my husband and I actually DO know Albert! He is even nicer in person than he is on the phone, if that's possible. We were not purchasing anything that day, but Albert showed us several large rugs and explained about their construction and provenance. It was so much fun meeting him and seeing his huge selection of rugs! I really do think his store is a find, and, thanks to the internet, he is able to do business all over the world. read more

We have bought a number of rugs at Borokhim's and have had a fantastic experience each time. The first time my wife and I visited, we had recently moved into a new home. We were looking for a rug for our living room and had some ideas,had looked around a number of places, but not found something quite right. One afternoon we walked into Borokhim's and were welcomed by Albert and Paula. They helped us narrow our focus with questions about our intended space, style, colors, usage and then showed us several examples that could tie into and enhance what we had and the look and feeling we were trying to achieve. When we had looked at quite a few and found a rug we really liked, Albert wouldn't allow me to pay and instead asked me to take the rug home first. Then he said if we really were happy with it after few days, then come back with the payment. Otherwise he would be glad to accept the rug back. The rug was even better when we got it home. I had a horrible experience with Borokhim where he threatened my wife with: "I'll spit in your face if you ever come back". After he belittled her for asking about rugs he didn't have, he followed her out of the shop onto the sidewalk to make the threat. I was there waiting on the sidewalk with my baby granddaughter. I have NEVER heard such disgusting language from a business owner anywhere in the world. I returned for a well-deserved apology for my wife, who refuses to come within 50 feet of his shop. I, too, was showered with insults, and claims that all his "new" reviews would "swamp" mine. He has apparently contacted previous customers and asked them to write positive reviews, turning those customers into unwitting shills (check the timing of their reviews). Shameless behavior. I have to admit that I was a bit nervous about purchasing a rug from a shop in Madison,Wisconsin sight unseen. ( I live in Seattle. ) But the selection of rugs that Albert Borokhim has online is remarkable, and when I contacted him, he answered all my questions and sent me more detailed pictures and complete information about the rug I was interested in. He assured me he would ship the rug to me for free, and if I was not completely satisfied, he would ship it back at no cost to me. We are very happy with our beautiful semi-antique Heriz from Iran. Albert even offered to send a thin rug pad too. It was a pleasure doing business with Albert. I needed to find a large rug for my main living area. Albert sent pictures of several possibilities. I finally decided on a more expensive choice after considering it for a week or two. Albert did not push me, but waited until I had made my decision. He sent me several photos of this rug, but the photo colors were deceptively bright. The rug was folded and wrapped very well. In spite of having to receive it by UPS Freight, I was able to put it into the back end of my Explorer to get it home. The rug colors are soft, the fibers are soft, and the pattern beautiful. I am very happy with my choice and thank Albert very much for his kindness and assistance. I can happily live with it forever! read more

I often visit Madison and had the pleasure of walking into this persian rug store while I was on Monroe Street. I have a modest collection of antique rugs and was curious about their selection. Once I started talking to Mr. Borokhim I was convinced to buy some rug s from him. His best knowledge his patience and terrific customer service is rare these days.
