I needed to stock up on tinned fish and pasta so I decided to include a visit to Bosa while running an errand not far away. It was a warm and sunny winter sunday so I decided to walk from home downtown. It was a loverly 1.5 hr walk along the Seawall and through revived neighbourhoods of Strathcona and Grandview-Woodlands. After grabbing my provisions, I decided to pick up a drink and sandwich from the deli counter for lunch. I did not take a picture of my sandwich but the grilled bacon and tomato panini could not be any more perfect with an orange pop for lunch in their sidewalk seating under the wintry sun. The sandwich was piping hot coming out of the heater. The breads were crispy and the thick bacon slices filled every bite. read more

Greeting from cashiers. No acknowledgement from the deli staff counter whatsoever, no indication they were aware I was waiting. Lady of similar descent came up and she was acknowledged and served. Other members of deli team were in their personal world and conversations. For better service and better treatment, stick to Renzullo's. They train their staff to be pleasant and work hard, and not stand around and treat customers as if they are bothering them. Oh, the good thing about Bosa store was it was clean. read more

Was in the area and came to check out this place. They have a variety of Italian ingredients but one thing I couldn't find is anchovies. Did I miss it? I can't find it among the tin cans of seafood. I used to go to the commercial drive location often as my work place was nearby then. Then it left and moved back to this original location. Somehow I forgot about it until I saw another yelper's pictures. They were enticing! It was quite hard to find street parking as most were residential permits only. I managed to get a spot in the tiny parking lot at the building (12 spots or so). I was directed to join the line outside when I exited the elevator. This was pretty packed on Sunday morning. The place was slightly bigger than the commercial location. The store near Boundary was way bigger. Despite the size, this store had many things including kitchen ware and cookery books. The highlight was the deli. The varieties of olives were mind boggling. They looked so attractive with the colors. I literally went nuts getting lots of antipasto items to try -- olives, cheese stuffed pepper, marinated octopus, marinated seafood and cherry bocconcini. The sausages were also freshly made and had many types of filling. I liked the chicken and fig sausage. The Asiago and pepper sausage was also yummy. Then I went to get some arancini (Italian sausage, veggie and beef). They were too salty for me. The artichoke salad and potato salad were not bad. I LOVE the Marco Pollo sandwich! It was delicious with fig spread, spinach, Brie, roasted chicken, artichoke aioli and red pepper. I think that is my favorite sandwich here. The prices are good too. I think all sandwiches are $6.99. Add coffee (cappuccino was $2.49) and you get a meal for just under $10. This is an awesome place for Italian foodstuff. read more

This is the smaller of two locations. There is free parking, although I ended up parking on a nearby street as I didn't see the sign or entrance until I was already entering the store. There are less options at this location due to its limited size, but still a good selection if pantry basics and almost the same size deli menu. Be warned that they sell out of some options by the afternoon. I managed to snag the last cannoli and one of the remaining arancinis. The prices are fair. Pasta, canned tomatoes and olives were a bit cheaper than at regular grocery stores or fromageries. This is also a good place to find some more unusual Mediterranean items and a huge variety of fresh pastas and charcuterie items. read more

I went back to visit this store after quite awhile. First off, I was glad to see they follow COVID measures - hand sanitizer at the front of store. and most ppl are wearing masks. I love the products here. It's an Italian grocery store, so there's plenty of Italian fare. For example, you can find several types of olive oil, canned products like squid/tuna/calamari, jars of mushrooms/antipasto/olive pate, frozen truffle pasta, pizza dough, many types of salami/deli cuts/sausages, fresh meats and many types of cheese, like fresh mozzarella/burrata/blue cheese/Brie etc. The deli section also has several fresh delicious ready made sandwiches. quiche. pastries, meatballs, etc. I always buy an ample amount of products here because there is such a good variety. Been there once looking for preserved anchovies (pretty much a pantry staple for Italians), and didn't find it. Came a second time for mascarpone cheese to make tiramisu and, given it was lunch time, grabbed two sandwiches. Never again. Like others commented, the sandwiches have a mix of spreads or deli that would make anyone who's Italian or been to Italy wonder why you'd pair those things together, beyond the fact they look good behind the glass. The ticket system was on so I picked my number and went around the cheese fridge while waiting... only to find out they were serving people in line, not using the numbers. The deli in my sandwich were cut thick, ciabatta bread was soft-ish (ciabatta is supposed to be crispy outside), so in the end it was doughy. The choice is wide, and the space is clean, but the experience is more for the eyes or someone who doesn't know Italian food/cooking that for someone looking for specialty foods you would imagine to find at an Italian deli & grocer. Bianca Maria or Santa Barbara are better choices with staff that knows what they're selling. Everyone working behind the counter or at the cash registers seems just annoyed and unhappy. read more

As others have mentioned, it's not the largest of locations or selections of products and produce. So far visits to the deli here have been good: service is more efficient than friendly, but always polite. Sausages, deli meats and all the olives have been pretty darn good. Are you a fan of Italian meats and cheese? Then get thee to this locally owned, family operated shop with a reputation as old as the city itself. Wonderful and mouthwatering selection of Olives showcased along with hundreds of cheeses and deli meats. Shelves of sauces and spreads, pastas (even non gluten ones!), Kichen items and espresso makers as well as imported coffees. Weeee! what fun we had. This was a great pairing after the east Vancouver farmers market, so close by. I've been to the larger, shinier new shop but I quite enjoyed the ambiance that this small specialty foods place has to offer. read more

We live in the neighbourhood, and routinely pop by anytime we are putting a charcuterie board together. Lots of other good stuff too - anchovies, salted cod, two whole aisles for pasta. It's family run, and I'm pretty sure family-staffed, however I do not find the staff suuuuuper knowledgeable about their products, which would be nice, but whatever. Decent little cafe side of things too, except your panino may not be heated all the way through and the coffee ain't the best. I have a bit of a quibble over their hours too, as they don't stay open past 6 most days, so it's more a place for a weekend visit than a quick grocery run after work. read more

Great selection of Italian foods & goods. The store has underground parking and is well stocked & laid out. For dinner tonight, we bought & brought home stuffed peppadews, hot Italian sausages, shaved Parmesan, wild mushroom pasta sauce and wild mushroom gnocchi. Our mmm mmm good meal was pulled together quickly with the addition of fresh sautéed mushrooms, and there's even leftovers for an easy lunch. Will be back the next time we're feeling like cooking Italian again! read more

But I like this one a LOT more. Call me crazy, but the selection is roughly the same - in a much smaller space - and from what I can tell a lower price point. Yes, the big brother location has a bit more variety. Yes, the big brother location has nice free samples of various treats. Yes, the big brother variety feels more like a supermarket than a small ethnic market. This spot covers all the bases needed for Italian cooking from 2 rows of dried imported pastas to a fresh deli and cheese counter. Lots of packaged and canned goods from Europe as well. A nice selection at reasonable prices. All of this without the hassle of the major crowds at the big brother location. This is a calm off the beaten path location to get those things you need to prepare nice Italian meals. Wonderful! read more

When it comes to any and all things Italian food, this place is boss. Cheese and olives and oils and pastas and prosciutto and antipasto and sausages and artichokes and shelves upon shelves of sauces and spreads and pestos (plural!) -- they're all here, they're all cheap, and they're all tops. Bosa makes me wish I could (a) eat gluten (damn you asile of pasta!) and (b) call my gran "nonna." I can't do either, but if I were to, Bosa would be the place to make it happen. Offerings in their deli include cheeses (bocconcini in 3 sizes), an impressive selection of olives (4 varieties of cerignola alone), and a nice variety of italian ham and cured sausage. Select a daily fresh bun to bring to the deli counter and they will make a custom sandwich with your choice of meat, cheese, and tapanade for approx $3.00. Prices of their dried imported pasta and olive oils are very reasonable. This place is a little gem....especially since they opened the Kootenay location and there are far shorter line ups. read more

This is my favorite place to shop for deli goods, cheeses, specialty italian water crackers, and much more. I'm so lucky to have them within walking distance because I go there so often! Items I buy all the time: 1. Cheeses - Bocconcini (small, medium, large). They have some of the best and freshest bocconcini around. Parmasean comes in large wedges but I use a lot in my cooking so I might as well buy in bulk! 2. Pesto - This is in their deli section as well so you can buy as little or much as you want/need. I get around $3 worth and mix some with the baby bocconcini's and cherry tomatoes for a great appetizer. 3. Rosemary Water Crackers - These crackers are great for entertaining or just eating with a soup. I usually have them with my above mentioned appetizer. 4. Olives - I usually stick to a medley of olives and once again I only buy what I need for the next few days cuz it's so close I can always get more. 5. Fresh Baguettes - They don't bake them here but they get fresh bread daily. 6. Antipastos - Canned or pickled, it's available at Bosa Foods. This is their original location so it's probably better then their new fancy location just off of Boundary! =D read more

They have moved from Victoria and Pender to their new temp location at 956 Commercial Drive while their new building is being completed (2 years). I prefer this location over their other location on Kootenay St. Their deli is fantastic, nicely displayed and clean. When they slice their deli meats they don't all 'lump' in a pile and place in plastic bag or wrap the lump in brown paper, they take pride in serving their specialities. I'm happy for this move and wish them the best. read more

So-so service. Last time I was there every aisle was blocked by staff stocking shelves. I gave up and left. Stores used to stock when they were closed. Today I picked up some cheese and went to the deli counter for some salami. They weren't using the number system and there was only one other customer, but apparently he had managed to get both clerks working on his order, so I waited. And waited. There were four clerks at the sandwich counter with no customers, but I guess they can't work in the deli section, so I waited. And waited. Eventually I put back the cheese and left. Zero for two. At least Renzullo is only a couple of blocks east and Santa Barbara a couple blocks west. read more

Bosa foods is a little gem. If I didn't know what I was looking for before I went in, I probably wouldn't have even given it a second look. The store front looks like a warehouse/food distributor's office location. It's off of the drive, the signage is bland, and you can't see very much of what is inside the store from the outside. We were on our way to the drive and we just happened to park in front of Bosa. A friend had advised me that he had purchased truffles and amazing cheese here before, so I thought I would give it a go and see what we could find. What they have managed to cram into this store (neatly, orderly, and cleanly) amazes me. I'm amazed. I've never seen so many different varieties of pickled... anything you can imagine. We walked out of there with mushrooms, the largest caper berry jar I've ever seen in my life, salami, cheese, seasoning... the list goes on. This place is a plethora of amazing items I would not have otherwise thought to pick up, but I'm glad I did. I love it when we go out and buy things we've never used before just to see if we can make it taste amazing. The staff were friendly, available if we needed them, and weren't too invasive. As i mentioned, the store is very well organized, but extremely small, so I really appreciated the "hands off, if you need us we're here" approach that the smiling girls behind the counter took as they served up deli items. I can't wait to visit the other location. I will ABSOLUTELY be back. read more

This is one of those out of the way, word of mouth discoveries that anyone who has an interest in food should know about. I absolutely love this place. Great selection of dried pastas, olive oils and vinegars. For me it's the cheese though, they fly in fresh buffalo mozzarella and bocconcini several times a week and if you're lucky, you'll catch them during truffle season. I don't know where else to buy fresh truffles so this place is dear to me. read more

I noticed the new location as I drove by. Pulled over just to check it out. I JUST asked a lady if they had something I could put on cooked chicken...like a side dipping sauce. This is my favourite store ever. As someone of Italian heritage, this is my Mecca. Well, this and the Italian Cultural centre. I try and come here at least once a month to get my supply of Chinotto (I swear this is the only place in Vancouver that stocks this stuff!) and my usual meats and cheeses. Sure the staff could be friendlier, but that's just Italians for you, don't take it personally. The sandwich bar is what drew me to the new Bosa, I love the Veneziano pannino, it makes my mouth water just thinking about it, along with all the other desserts and soups and fresh goodies that they've got waiting for you. I still like the old location better, probably because I have been going there with my nonna for as long as I can remember, and the traffic is significantly less. Whatever location you go to, be prepared to spend more money than you had in mind originally. read more

I like this Bosa a lot more than the other bigger version. I come here quite a bit for all my Italian goods. However, you should ALWAYS insist that you check how they cut your prosciutto. Some of the staff there know what they are doing, and some don't. More than once have I come home with excellent quality prosciutto that has been cut like thick like Mortadella. read more

Parked the car in the underground and tried to make our way to the inside but got trapped in a two way locking door,then the security guard shut the gate and locked the store and us out from our car. He said he didnèt believe that we were shopping. I explained that we have a cripple person with us and got locked in the stairwell had to take time to get around to front door as we got there the cripple fell security looks right at us and locks the door, so we walk back to the underground to see the gate locked. I walked back to front banged on window telling security I'm locked out. after 17minutes I went back to front again and had to bang so loud all the tenants and manager came outside, last to show up the security guard it took 25 minutes to get our car back security guard yelled at me and told me" Donèt come back If I ever see you around here" and threatened me. Basically Who locks the underground before they lock the front door and then patronize a potential customer saying you were trying to park for free at a place where there is nothing else around for blocks, and threaten them with violence if they ever see them around. read more
