Boscov's is a family-owned department store chain with 51 locations in the US, mostly on the East Coast (CT, DE, MD, NJ, RI, OH, PA, WV, & NY). This was my first time visiting Boscov's actually, at the Providence Mall! They had so much to offer; lots of home appliances, clothes, accessories, makeup, etc. found it to be very similar to Sears? Though we didn't end up buying anything and just did a quick walk through, they seem to have pretty reasonable prices. Horrible, me and my friends went to the couch section to look for one for my house and they came to us and kicked us out saying we aren't allowed back in, and that security is gonna escort us out if we don't leave, we only got to sit on ONE couch. When we asked what the reason for it was, she said we have no business being there, also said we have to talk to a sales associate the second we get in the store to look at anything. Then my friend went to ask the same lady for a scissors after we left, to cut something open that she bought from the store, and she didn't even look up and said "NO" aggressively and shooed her away with her hands. I strongly wanna say that this was racism, i was with 4 people of color and she was only harshly directing everything towards them. read more

Recently, I went to Boscov's to look around and get some ideas regarding gifts and things for the condo. To my surprise, I saw some live plants in a pot....never seen anything like that at a department store inside a mall. Good to know that I can have that option...unfortunately the poor plants did not look great, but one or two of them looked good enough....LOL... read more

I love Boscov's! It is so nice to be able to shop in a large, 3 level department store that sells everything, at very reasonable prices. They have loads of stock, especially men's clothing. Their bedsheets are of excellent quality and extremely inexpensive. Everything is neat and clean, and sales people are friendly and accommodating. Wish we had a Boscov's at Warwick Mall. read more

I love Boscov's and have been a regular here once they opened, but less often this past 7 months due to road construction. However whoever I go I leave with the best outfits and got a great deal at the Clinique counter today. The gift section on the 3rd floor is awesome and I can always find good deals. All of the employees are awesome, friendly and helpful. Parking is easy (parking garage) and free for the first 2 hours, then it's $2. Still worth it. I've only had to pay once. Honestly the most frustrating thing about the store is the parking garage at the mall, very confusing and I've gotten lost in it (I'm not the only one so I don't feel too stupid lol) The mall itself is great too but I really just go for Boscov's read more

This is a very large, two story department store located as an 'anchor' at Providence Place mall. The lower level seems to be mostly clothing, while the upper floor has furnishings, carpets, dishes, organizational items and 'as seen on tv' things. My first impression is it's like an upscale Christmas Tree shop. My second impression is although the prices are quite low, everything is made in China. I don't mind spending more to purchase items made in America (if I can find them!), so for me, this is really not my store. If you are on a tight budget and trying to set up house or need a few wardrobe items for you or the family, it may be worth a look around if you are in the area. read more

This store is really cool. When we were in Providence, me and my girl stopped here. It was new for me, but she is originally from Jersey , and shed come here with her family all the time. Anyhow, I had fun buying stuff to eat and use for appliances. Place has that warm welcome of clothing, food , video games, Computer laptops. We were happy. The good: Decent selection of clothes at a reasonable price. Store is well organized. The bad: After just walking though the door the employees are already hounding you to open a credit card. Terrible first impression. Then, while walking though the store they have ads for their credit cards over the speakers. No one wants to be pressured to open your card. Just ask us at checkout and don't have 4 employees asking right through the doors. read more

Gloria in fine jewelry should be the face of Providence Boscov's. I went in to the store as a sad Nordstrom customers. I really did not expect to buy a thing- let alone fine gold jewelry. I am very impressed with Boscov's. It's like the department stores I remember from my childhood (Outlet Company, Jordan Marsh) that carry everything you could need. Selection is excellent; you can find proper brand names to affordable Boscov's brands. Bright clean modern sales floor, real shoe department that a sales person brings you the shoes and most importantly good customer service, you don't know how nice it is to be able find a sales associate that wants to help you. read more

Low quality- way too much merchandise displayed. There seems to be a nearly 1:2 ratio of employees to customers, A mob of people greeting you, 4 or 5 people behind the register. It seems like an overpriced kohl's more than an anchor for an urban mall I'm sure after the honeymoon most of those employees will be laid off read more

Clean and relatively cheap but they have rude and condescending salespeople with a terrible intimates selection. The band range carried is much worse than Macy's or Nordstrom, their direct competitors. I asked if they carried anything under a 34 and was told to try the junior's section and that "I shouldnt feel bad for asking" as if I should be ashamed for having a rib cage smaller than 34 inches, which has nothing to do with cup size? Their "fit expert" has no idea how bra sizes work. read more

I had been looking everywhere for long sweaters and finally found a nice selection of Cable and Gauge sweaters here right when I walked in the door! Granted I can normally find this brand at a better price and Marshall's and TJ Maxx but the selection here was quite good and I had already looked at many Marshall's and TJ Maxx in the area and could not find anything similar. There are some nice pieces mixed in the women's clothing section but they do tend to be focused on an older demographic with brands like Alfred Dunner. There was also a really hideous section of sweatshirts with weird photos and bedazzling on them. Who buys these horrid things? I can't imagine anyone would want to wear these unless it was for an ugly sweater type theme party. It's disappointing that they don't have a more modern aesthetic. The best clothes here were the Calvin Klein pieces and some Nine West. They also had some more trendy casual/ juniors type clothes, but they looked very cheaply made. Even though I liked the look of them, I passed on them due to concerns about the quality. I'd love to see brands similar to Inc and Alfani that are my favorite brands at Macy's. I am familiar with Boscov's from living in NY and it's always a place I check when I can't find what I am looking for anywhere else. They do have a nice selection and decent prices, but definitely not the most modern or trendy clothes. A good place for basics but no way would I do all my clothes shopping here. I also agree with other Yelpers that there were far to many employees in the store, especially around the entrances. It was hard to get by them to get into the store! However, that might just be due to the opening rush. On the other hand, it was nice to be checked out right away without having to hunt down as cashier as is often the case at Macy's. read more

Some of the comments on this store are absurd. Midwestern? Heck no. Boscov's is a Pennsylvania institution and one of the largest great family owned department stores. It has a reputation for community service, and being a great place to work, with employees who work the sales floor for decades because of the work environment and compensation. It's not Nordstrom, Lord & Taylor (RIP) nor Neiman Marcus but it isn't supposed to be. Most of those stores gave Providence a shot and discovered that they're too expensive for the local marketplace. This is a department store in the grand old tradition of lots of quality merchandise at a range of prices for middle class Americans, coupled with excellent and personal service from salespeople who make a career out of working retail. This Boscov's is far larger than the ones I remember from my Pennsylvania years as a teenager and is filled with beautiful items and friendly people who can help you find whatever you're looking for. Boscov's has its place in Providence as a quality shopping experience that fits the budgets and incomes of everyday Rhode Islanders, and I'm thrilled that there's one a quick drive away that I can stop by and browse through. The store, its merchandise and its overall vibe is a great fit for Providence. Visit it and give it a try; have some fudge and walk the floor. Unable to visit on the opening days, we were able to take a walk through each of the floors on Tuesday and then returned on Friday to hear Elvis Aaron Presley II, who was very entertaining. Such a nice touch to have entertainment as an attraction. Boscov's offers a large variety of name brand clothing as well as average attire for individuals of all ages. My husband saw a Chaps vest that he wanted but they had one size medium and it was damaged. The department salesperson checked to determine if others were available but to no avail. Once can purchase a variety of gifts in this interesting store with its gourmet food section, fudge and assorted candy counters. It should also be noted that their prices, at least currently, were reasonable for Godiva and Russell Stover boxes of candy. However, there was not a large variety of the Godiva chocolates. Boscov's home goods and gift area offered very decent prices on Lenox, Spode and other high end decor. Hopefully, that will continue. Most sales personnel were friendly and helpful, yet some seemed to be wandering around, yet hard to "catch" in order to obtain assistance. Perhaps with more time and training, the personnel issues will improve. read more

Very impressed during my first shopping venture to Boscov's. They have spectacular sales going on during their opening week, and even free concerts in their auditorium. For example, I scored an Eagle's Nest button-down oxford dress shirt, with a list price of $70, the same shirt I bought at Macy's last week for $70, for $29.99, and a Nautica dress shirt with a list price of $61.50, for $19.99. My girlfriend bought four elegant sweaters for $92. We also listened to Elvis Presley, Jr., belt out half dozen tunes that made his alleged father famous, and he is pretty talented himself, but we had to leave before the show was over since we had other plans for the afternoon. I went to Boscov's recently to check it out. The store is bright and organized. I had no problem finding what I was looking for, and I was surrised to see that they carry G.H Bass. While I was never a really a Nordstrom's shopper, the Mall couldn't have gone more down market than putting in this low end, horrible retail relic from some dying age in the retail brick-and-mortar past. Would have been better off putting in a Walmart or Target...same merchandise and target market, but at least more current. Foreshadowing of where Providence Place is headed I suspect, and just one step ahead of the ghost town bankruptcy of all the other low end malls in America. Wonder what the Mayor and Governor are going to do with all this empty real estate when it becomes the next Pro-Jo or "Superman" building. read more

Hounded by at least 8 employees upon entry and when walking around in the store about joining mailing lists and credit cards. I was looking for a dress for an upcoming wedding. Only dress that I liked was too small so I left without buying anything. Upon leaving was chased out of the building by another employee begging me to come back and take a better look. "You don't have anything I want right now." "of course we do, we have something for everyone!!!" I would have considered going back for holiday shopping, but hell no with all these aggressive sales people! They made me feel really uncomfortable. :( read more

This place was so dated. Looked like I stepped into Burlington or kohl's in 2001 with those huge registers. Very poor selection of junior plus, it was like 5 items. Cool new addition to the Providence Place Mall. Store opened yesterday and helped raise funds for the community, not everyone does that. Read the other review and they must have visited the older womens sections only. I found nice stuff and a carriage full of Nine West, Calvin Klein and some brand ive never heard of called democracy. I tired their jeans and they fit great. They had a chef cooking upstairs yesterday who was so nice and welcoming and they were handing out free fudge samples. The candy counter was straight out of the 70s with chocolate covered pretzels, godiva and other really good stuff. The only thing I have to say was parking sucked but once I figure out where to park I'm sure I won't mind the garage. i'll be back! read more

I have visited a few times and ordered on-line, and the quality and prices were great! I love the atmosphere. The staff is very helpful, and the selection of goods offers depth and a variety of price points to meet the consumer's needs & budget. Everything is clean and very organized. It gives the warmth of an old-time family store and the selection of a modern department store. I agree with the "overpriced Kohl's" description. Prices are not great ("sale" prices much higher than TJMaxx.) Some items, such as toys, are individually marked, I was told some were on sale, but I would have to ask a salesperson to scan each individually to find out which ones. This was not a difficult feat, as there were a lot of sales people on the floor with seemingly nothing to do. I heard a lot of very loud personal conversations among them. Now, everyone should have fun at work, but shouting to each other 1/2 way up escalators and across departments seemed a bit crude. Also the faucet on the sink in the bathroom I used was broken. The store is less than 4 months old! I thought this store must be very special to actually take over the Nordstrom anchor, but sadly I don't see it lasting. read more

So convenient having this here in the city. Checked it out for the first time today and loved the selection. The upper level is basically like a Target. It's definitely a bit dated looking and it wouldn't be my go to for clothing but in terms of housewares it was great selection and the prices were awesome.
