I recently got a linework tattoo on my forearm at Boss Frog Tattoo. While the tattoo itself turned out fine, the overall experience was extremely disappointing and left me feeling completely ripped off. From the moment we walked in, the service was unprofessional. The woman at the front desk refused to answer basic questions and would not provide a quote when I repeatedly asked. I made it very clear that I wanted to know the price before committing. Instead of giving me a straight answer, they sent me to the back to ask the artist directly. Even then, he still would not tell me how much the tattoo would cost. That should have been a major red flag. Despite not being given a price, I decided to go through with it -- which I now regret. After the tattoo was finished, I was charged $450 (For a 45 minute session) for simple line art on my forearm. No shading, no color, just linework. Being intentionally kept in the dark about pricing until after the work was done feels deceptive and dishonest. Clear communication about pricing is basic professionalism, especially in an industry where costs can vary. Refusing to disclose pricing upfront makes customers feel trapped and pressured once they're already in the chair. I would strongly advise anyone considering this shop to demand a written quote before sitting down -- or better yet, take your business somewhere that values transparency and respects its clients. read more

Hello .. 4 of us went up there to get a tattoo ...arrived at 1:30 ..we were told they didnt have anyone till 3:30 ..ok ..waited till 3:30 ..at 3:45..2 of us left and we would return when the other 2 were almost done ...only 1 artist was available ..and he could have done 4 of us ...when he did finally come out he took my son back ..started the tattoo ..didn't mention the price ..go figure ...then he said it was going to be 400 after he was almost done ...Nice ..My niece was going to go next but at 400 ? Then he comes back and says he can do it for 300 for her, even though hers would be larger and use more ink and time. So, you charge men more... and yes, the young ones should have asked, but we have been here multiple times and have never been charged anywhere close to this much. Maybe Hector the artist should have disclosed the price? Of course he should have, what if someone doesn't have enough after tattoo is done. I heard about this place through a friend. Walked in with my new 18 y/o daughter lol. She was ready for her 1st tattoo. This place is located in McKinney off 380. Looks very clean and modern. We walked in and were able to get her tattoo right there on a Friday afternoon. Her artist was one of the females. I wish we had her name. She was great. My daughter says she had a great experience. She was chatting with the artist while getting tattooed. We are waiting to take the tape off but so far it looks like she did a good job. I really liked this place. Probably will come here for my next tattoo! The price was decent. I heard some places in the city over charge you. I feel this place was fear with the pricing. Awful tattoo sop. They used to be highly recommended but have definitely gone down hill. I got two one inch tattoos that took literally 15 minutes and they tried to charge me $250 (one is an out line of something and one is a number) the number is completely messed up. Half the one is missing and very shaky. Asked for some kind of refund or someone to fix it and the "owner" lady was rude and only giving the option to go back to the same guy who originally gave me bad work. Why would I go back to the same person who gave me the bad tattoo in the first place? I am so extremely pleased with the work I had done today. Jacob did an amazing job, and my tattoos turned out absolutely perfect! I went in for a consultation earlier this week and brought photos of what I wanted to do as a remembrance for my little pup that recently passed. I made an appointment, and the entire experience was perfect. Jacob is a very personable guy! He copied the heart from my pup, which made me so happy. I also added the Lilies to my current butterflies. He was able to redraw it to fit, as I didn't want anything too large. His line work is on point. Start to finish, everything was perfect. I went in for a walk in tattoo today around 7:30, and everyone was so nice, especially the lady at the front desk! They were very quick too. I only had to wait like 15 minutes or so. Maybe 20. I expected to have to wait a bit longer, which wouldn't have been a problem. Art takes time. But it was a nice surprise to get in so quickly! I really wish I remembered my artist's name, but I think he was in the first room on the right side of the shop (and he had a lot of Deadpool figurines and what looked kind of like skateboards on the wall lol! It was really cool!). He was really nice and he did an amazing job! It was my first tattoo, so I was a bit nervous, but he explained everything to me. To me he was light handed, but since it was my first tattoo I don't have a reference point, but it really wasn't that painful at all. I got a thirteen on my wrist because it's my husband and I's special number, and then I got a bow on my wedding finger. I will definitely be back! It was $100, which I think is very reasonable. You kind of need to know where you are going to find this place. It's in a strip shopping center across from Mckinney Trade Days. I'm 40 and have never had a tattoo before. Chris, my tattoo artist was friendly and talkative. His demeanor really put me at ease. He had me spell check my tattoo several times before he started. The thing that surprised me the most is that it didn't hurt. I would have thought a tattoo on your wrist would be excruciating, but no it wasn't at all. I was tattooed by Dewayne. The tattoo I got was straight forward and simple. Two weeks later it's nowhere close to healed and it's apparent that he tattooed me way to deep leaving nothing but a scar. After paying and signing paperwork I then went to his booth and sat down. Before he began tattooing me another guy came in to use his printer (which prints stencils). This guy was a jerk and interrupted us for at least 30 mins. This shop also reps Christianity. So, if you want to be disrespected by a bunch of Christian tattoo artists who rep Christianity, and don't make their own stencils, this is the place to go. To further update my review the stencil which was being printed was a massive and beautiful lion. It would have taken a real tattoo artist hours to trace it and create a handmade stencil. To add insult to injury the shop manager (whose comment I ignored) commented on my post. To add even more insult to injury I was also privately messaged by a James B (I have no idea who that is). The message was as follows: "Dwayne is a nice guy for helping me with a brand new method for tattoo stencils. Asking for him to help doesnt make me a jerk... as for the Christian thing and disrespecting you...thats a stretch. Id be more than happy to help you out give ya a free session in exchange of you changing your yelp review. My sister recently visited for several days, one of those being her birthday. She wanted to get matching tattoos, so to Yelp I went! Boss Frog had numerous 5-star reviews, and after reading them and evaluating other options we decided to go here. You can drop in, but it's probably better to make an appointment. We made appointments with Buster, who's a wonderful guy. He printed the stencils, did my sister's first, then mine. They look great! James is the best! He's fun to be around & does amazing work. The shop is always clean & everyone is always very nice. I went to get a memorial tattoo for my mom who passed away last year. Had a consultation with James to go over what I wanted. He was very up front about how he charges & how much time he estimated the tattoo would take. When I went back to get it started, James created a perfect image for what I wanted. He did all the black that night & I scheduled my next appointment for the color. The day of my color appointment he called me because he wanted to make sure that I was healed enough. He didn't want me to waste a trip to the shop if I needed more healing time. I live minutes from the shop, so I just told him I'd come in so he could look at it. Well sure enough it wasn't quite healed enough, but instead of going home I asked him if he could re-work an old tattoo that I wasn't very happy with. So he did & it came out awesome. It's been a breeze working with Boss Frog. The dude that runs the front desk is professional and polite. The facilities are clean and inviting. My artist was Marco. He did a remarkable job on my foo dog tattoo -- I'll post a pic once he finishes it on 4/1/17. Marco's a really cool, nice guy. Easy to talk to. Great listener. His prices are totally reasonable. Best part is that he's not a big small-talker. It bugs me when artists are pestering me about my life story while they're working. He does his thing and I let him concentrate: it's the exact working relationship I'm looking for in an artist. UPDATE: I met with Marco for my second sit on 4/1. Here's how the pricing worked: on the first meeting Marco gave me a quote based on a 5-hour estimate. Instead of rushing to finish in five hours, he worked on me for SIX hours ... not including the hour he spent on sketching, making stencils, etc., and didn't charge me any extra. He told me to come back in two weeks because he had an estimated three more hours of work to do. I told him that I appreciated the extra time he spent to get it just right and that I wouldn't hold him to his initial quote. Two weeks later I came back and he put in another three hours of work, but he still wasn't satisfied so he told me to come back in three weeks for one more hour to "tighten things up." I agreed and asked him how much I owed him. He smiled, shrugged his shoulders and said, "You don't owe me anything, man. I stand by my quotes. This thing is taking me a lot longer than I expected, so this has been a learning experience for me." So when it's all said and done, I'll have a 10-hour tattoo for a 5-hour tattoo price. Let that set in. I was willing -- eager even -- to throw hundreds of dollars at the guy, but his principles prohibited him from reneging on the price we agreed upon. How's that for character? I'll be back toward the end of the month to finish this beast up and you better believe I'll be back from this point forward whenever I need fresh ink. 20, 5-star reviews, you would almost think they are reviewing themselves. But after having a tattoo done at Boss Frog's and my wife having 2 recolored I totally understand the reviews. I'm 56 and never had any kind of tattoo before, it's not that I don't like them, it's that I had not found anything I wanted on my body the rest of my life. I found a cross online that I fell in love with immediately, it was different than other crosses, less stuffy if you will. My wife and I stopped by Boss Frogs after a friend suggested them (he has his wife's name tattooed as his wedding ring). Anyway, we walked in and the place was clean and welcoming. It had the feel and look of a tattoo parlor but not seedy (too many tv shows) at all. We talked to the people at the desk and Star was able to work my wife in that night to recolor her tattoos. I was able to watch and found it interesting. I scheduled my appointment (Star is busy) two weeks later and I am not disappointed in the results. She recreated the picture of the cross onto my leg, as an artist she even made a couple of suggestions and I think it turned out great. My wife has two, one she had done in Deep Ellum and one done in Tampa, FL. Both were older and the dolphin on her foot never was colored. Star recolored the yellow rose and it looks wonderful, but the dolphin is what is amazing. She was able to take an ok tattoo and make it a "Wow" tattoo. The colors and definition if the tattoo was better than anything I imagined. Remember this is from a guy who only had one tattoo so I can't really comment on the price except to say I thought it was very reasonable. If you are looking to get some ink in the McKinney area you should at least stop in and talk with Boss Frogs. read more

Dusty at Boss Frog did my tattoos about 2 weeks ago. Overall I'm very happy with his line work and shading. I'm not sure if this is normal but one of my tattoos is slightly raised up off the skin and has the texture of a scar. The other one doesn't feel nearly as raised up off the skin. This could be normal...not sure? The receptionist is very welcoming which is nice if you're not sure what to expect at a tattoo shop.
