My wife and I ate at Bostan Herndon and loved the food, the service and the environment. We were warmly welcomed by the owner, Sabe and his wife. And the booth that we set and was comfortable and supportive. Prices were moderate to an inexpensive and portions were generous. My wife and I decided on Bostan uyghur cuisine for dinner, having loved other other restaurants. First off, let me say their lamb kabobs were the best I have ever had anywhere. We both love lamb, especially cumin lamb. We got the chicken stew with noodles to share. We have had this at other restaurants, and this was better than the other places we have had it. Having been born in Xinjiang and reared on the regional cuisine, I know excellent Uyghur food when I see it--or, in this case, taste it. The hand-pulled noodles in the lagman were springy and delicious. The lamb for the kebabs and pilaf (polo) was fresh and tender, and the pilaf itself was perfectly cooked with each grain of rice nicely separable from the rest. It was so good, and reminiscent of my mom's cooking, that I ordered an extra serving to enjoy the next day for lunch. Can't wait to return! read more

This can't be the same establishment as the one in Arlington... this place is highly disappointing compared to the other Uyghur places in the DMV area. The place is very small - about 4 tables. That doesn't bother me too much but more-so the food. First of all, we asked for just water and it came out in red solo cups?!! Never seen that before... We ordered the cold skin noodles, it was NOT cold at all... not very appetizing. The Saozi noodle were pretty decent but it was not even HOT. Everything seemed to be lukewarm... Lastly, we ordered the pumpkin dumplings - they came out last but the dumplings came all broken... and it looked soggy like it was microwaved... I wouldn't recommend this place at all. I've never said this before about any establishment but I wouldn't want anyone to go here and waste their money. I love Uyghur food but this is not the place. read more

The Herndon location had recently opened up, and we knew we wanted to check them out; we ordered: +Samsas - filled with beef and onions; these were super flake-y +Spicy Fried Noodles - wok-fried noodles with a choice of beef or chicken with veggies; we opted for the beef; didn't contain much meat; we felt that it didn't have much of a kick, considering it was described as being 'spicy' +Bostan Special Lagmen - stir-fried meat and veggies, topped with handpulled noodles; was not a fan of this, as the noodles seemed overcooked and it was super bland +Stir-Fried Rice Noodles - wok rice noodles with an option of chicken or beef with a special sauce; we opted for the beef +the Kazan Beef Kabab - served with naan and rice; wished it was more charred for the flavor Service was friendly, but it seems as if the staff are unable to keep up with the call-ins and the carry-outs and seem to prioritize those groups rather than the dine-in patrons. There are a few types of food that I would, if needed, be happy to subsist upon. Uyghur food is one of them. Bostan Uyghur lived up to our hopes. It has that tangy spiciness of Uyghur cuisine, with a fresh feel to each dish. Everything tasted lovely--the kabobs, noodles, beef, lamb, bread, and samsa. I will say the Chinese noodle soup was good, not great. Its flavor was more flat, even though it looked nice. Intimate place that's great for takeout. Very high quality Uyghur cuisine. Lovely. Delicious! My wife had heard about the food in this 'hole in the wall' place, so three of us decided to try it. Comfortable small restaurant with attentive and helpful service. I came in the after on a Sunday and the place was packed ( no empty tables). So, I decided to do a to go order rather than do dine in. I ordered three items: the beef pitot manta (dumplings), a lamb kebab, & dry fried somen with chicken (noodles). The wait time for the to go order was more than 45 minutes. I would have been fine with this if it was communicated to me that that would be the wait time. My main issues were that when I placed the order, the cashier did not let me know it would take this long and that there are only two seats available for people waiting ( for dine in & to go orders). So a good portion of the time ended up being me standing in the narrow doorway. I will note that there was only one guy working as both the server & cashier so I figured there would be a wait, I just wish I knew it would be 40-50 minutes. In terms of the food, the beef manta was overcooked and so my dumplings had burst. Additionally, I wish the actual dumpling itself was slightly more salty as it tasted underseasoned. The lamb kebab had amazing, spicy flavor but it was overcooked and the meat was tough. The dry fried chicken somen was probably my favorite dish. It had very light, subtle flavor and had a very good cook on the noodle. The noodle was amazingly soft and tender so I commend the cook on those. However, I do wish there were more chicken that came in the noodles. Overall, I would only come back here for the noodles as the kebab & dumplings were disappointing and not well executed. Also, if you decide to come here, please note that it is a smaller place with only 4 sit down tables and 2 chairs for waiting guests. If you do opt for a to go order, I recommend you do a call in order at least 30 -40 minutes prior to the time you'll come to pick up the food. read more

Hate to leave such a low rating, but I genuinely did not enjoy my food here. Had high hopes for the place given the good ratings on Google. The positives: employees were friendly and brought out food quickly. The food seemed fresh. The negatives: food was very greasy and lacked flavor (other than red chili) compared to other Uyghur I have had. Chicken pieces in spicy chicken platter -- others call it chicken stew -- were all bone, no meat. Hardly got anything out of it. For $20? The chef had to know what chicken he was putting into the dish. Dolan Uyghur is much better. Go there for your fix. read more

I am a huge sucker for eggplant dishes, and this one is no joke the best I have had! My only regret is not getting bread to dip and scoop. It is a hot eggplant salad with lots of garlic and spices, sitting in a soy based savory sauce. The kebabs were very flavorful, just a bit dry. I've been to several Ughyur restaurants in the area, and this was probably one of the worst. We ordered the cold noodles, which is normally one of my favorite dishes but the sauce left much to be desired. It tasted watered down. For our main dish, we ordered the saozi noodle. Flavor was decent but I wish the soup was hotter. The restaurant was not busy, yet the service was still lacking. We ordered three dishes and two came out first. We actually finished both of those and then had to wait for a while for our third to come out? We thought they had forgotten the order so we asked the waitress and she told us it was still coming. Awkward timing and awkward service - the waitress seemed like she did not want to be there and was often on her phone. I've not been to the Arlington location, but based off the positive reviews for that location, I was surprised that this location fell so far off the mark. read more

Food is great at Bostan. We go here at least once a month. Service is also good if their usual waiters are present. Honey cake is awesome, lagman is awesome, korma chopped noodles are awesome, ramen style beef soup is great, manta, samsa. I dont know why people have given it bad reviews.
