a bowl of soup on a table
Parvez K.

There are a few types of food that I would, if needed, be happy to subsist upon. Uyghur food is one of them. Bostan Uyghur lived up to our hopes. It has that tangy spiciness of Uyghur cuisine, with a fresh feel to each dish. Everything tasted lovely--the kabobs, noodles, beef, lamb, bread, and samsa. I will say the Chinese noodle soup was good, not great. Its flavor was more flat, even though it looked nice. Intimate place that's great for takeout. Very high quality Uyghur cuisine. Lovely. Highly recommend.

Lamb kebab

I came in the after on a Sunday and the place was packed ( no empty tables). So, I decided to do a to go order rather than do dine in. I ordered three items: the beef pitot manta (dumplings), a lamb kebab, & dry fried somen with chicken (noodles). The wait time for the to go order was more than 45 minutes. I would have been fine with this if it was communicated to me that that would be the wait time. My main issues were that when I placed the order, the cashier did not let me know it would take this long and that there are only two seats available for people waiting ( for dine in & to go orders). So a good portion of the time ended up being me standing in the narrow doorway. I will note that there was only one guy working as both the server & cashier so I figured there would be a wait, I just wish I knew it would be 40-50 minutes. In terms of the food, the beef manta was overcooked and so my dumplings had burst. Additionally, I wish the actual dumpling itself was slightly more salty as it tasted underseasoned. The lamb kebab had amazing, spicy flavor but it was overcooked and the meat was tough. The dry fried chicken somen was probably my favorite dish. It had very light, subtle flavor and had a very good cook on the noodle. The noodle was amazingly soft and tender so I commend the cook on those. However, I do wish there were more chicken that came in the noodles. Overall, I would only come back here for the noodles as the kebab & dumplings were disappointing and not well executed. Also, if you decide to come here, please note that it is a smaller place with only 4 sit down tables and 2 chairs for waiting guests. If you do opt for a to go order, I recommend you do a call in order at least 30 -40 minutes prior to the time you'll come to pick up the food.

Eggplant Salad
Brent S.

I am a huge sucker for eggplant dishes, and this one is no joke the best I have had! My only regret is not getting bread to dip and scoop. It is a hot eggplant salad with lots of garlic and spices, sitting in a soy based savory sauce. The kebabs were very flavorful, just a bit dry. I will definitely order again and next time double eggplant and bread. Excellent!!!

Samsa
Angie K.

It's a really small hole in the wall type place. The price is okay but the amount is not much. Food is good and pretty authentic. Some of it like the samsa is reheated.

Kofta and falafel are great as well. Pakora chips are excellent as is the baklava. Cheesesteak is excellent too, especially with extra meat. Loving the new topping additions as well. We go pretty often as it's well priced, well portioned, and fast. The owner is consistently there making food and is an extremely kind gentleman. Not much of an ambiance but a great grab and go spot.

I tried this place out for lunch on a rare outing without my wife and when the craving for cart style meat over rice struck. The restaurant was completely empty during peak lunch hours, which did not bode well. I nonetheless proceeded and ordered a combo chicken/lamb platter over rice to go. Shah's sauces are solid, and I appreciate that the white sauce is not gloppy or sweet like some other competitors' and that the red sauce is appropriately piquant. They also offer a mild but flavorful green sauce which adds some fresh notes. Those sauces are needed as the chicken, lamb, and rice are unremarkable. The chicken possessed a decent flavor from a spiced marinade, though the pieces ran a little dry. The lamb cubes tasted like generic gyro and carried little flavor besides salt. The rice itself lacked the fluffy yet al dente texture seen at the best halal places. The proteins did not taste fresh and were served from a steam table rather than off the griddle. Still, the overall eating experience felt reasonably enjoyable due to the flavor of the sauces carrying the weight of the platter. The guy who took and assembled my order was very nice, though forgot to include pita bread in my order. I paid about $13 for the meal, and the portion was generous. As such, Shah's is a competent but unremarkable halal platter spot. I would not go out of my way to eat here, but if it's the closest place to you for this type of food it's a fine option.

I'm a local customer and live just a minute away, so I've visited more than once. I came in for lunch today with my wife and our 1.5-year-old son. After placing our order and sitting down, the server loudly yelled from behind the counter for us to come get our water. It felt uncomfortable and unprofessional, especially with a young child. When I placed my order, I asked for extra white sauce, and I asked again when the food came out. Both times, the request was ignored. I also mentioned that we hadn't received our drinks, but instead of addressing it, the server again yelled for us to get the drinks ourselves from the cooler. The food itself was okay, but the bread was very poor--hard and barely edible. I even called the restaurant later in the evening to share my concerns, but was told the server was off at that time. Overall, very disappointing experience, mainly due to the customer service. I hope this feedback is taken seriously and leads to improvement.

The aushack is like ravioli, but I didn't stand out to me. The Sambosa was crispy but minimal filling--still good taste wise. The zamarod palow has a very creamy, curry like sauce with lots of spinach and rice. The sauce makes it look like there is a lot of meat but there isn't. Really fragrant and delicious though! Same with the lamb shank--carb heavy but aromatic rice and lovely tomato sauce.

Ambiance wasn't fancy but was homey and cozy. Really nice portions and plenty of veg options. The seasoned rice options were lovely and my husband really enjoyed his tea. Appetizer was OK but the mains were superb and we were so full we couldn't finish. I got the seib, which was a main dish that primarily featured apples. I hadn't seen that before and I was skeptical before eating but wanted to try something different and it was incredible. My only pro tip is that when you order a veg main it's a lot of one thing, whereas meat mains come with a veg. Next time I will order the veggie combo option to get more diversity. Normally I write longer reviews but in this case I think I will let the food photos speak for themselves.
