Before I went here I was seriously considering pushing my car off a cliff and buying a new one. I'd spent at least 40 hours taking my car apart trying to fix a broken airbag control module. I went to two different mechanics trying to get my airbag and O2 sensor fixed who spent weeks ordering the wrong parts and charging me for shoptime that solved nothing. I been taking my 2003 VW Jetta to Javier at Boston Automotive for the past three years, and I couldn't be happier. I love my car, I love not having a car payment, but a ten year old car with 167,000 miles on it needs a bit of love, and that's where Javier comes in. A couple of days notice is all they generally require, one day really for an oil change. And similar to going to the doctor, the longer I have been a customer, the more they have come to know my car, and the better advice they have been able to give me. Even during the most routine of maintenance, the check my car and let me know in ADVANCE of what work my car will generally need. In addition, Javier lets me know for bigger projects what needs to be done now, and what can wait a month or two. I would 95% of the work I have had done has come in at our under the price quoted to me before hand. In addition, Javier warranties his work. The one time a problem was not correctly fixed the first time, it was quickly taken car of the next day. Boston Automotive's prices are fair, not cut rate, but not nearly as expensive as the dealership. Especially if you hold on to your car, as I do, it pays to take your car to quality and honest mechanic. You may pay an extra $20.00 for an oil change, but your car gets the attention and work that will keep it running for the long haul. I have been fortunate enough to have found Boston Automotive and Javier. a few years a back. He and his team are the best. I have a rare Audi TT model that unfortunately isn't the most reliable and he is the most knowledgable, trust worthy, and communicative mechanic I have found. Formerly I only went to Herb Chambers Audi in Burlington both because I used to work for HC and also because of he loaner car option. Every time I went there was someone new at the service desk so I had no relationship what so ever. Also there prices are extremely high. When I call Javier he knows me, by voice and b my car. He is very compassionate. He is honest and tells you what you are in for as far as repair expenses. He has squeezed me in on short notice and is very accurate when giving quotes. If something unexpected is found that causes a delay or increase in cost he walks me through it explaining the issues he is going to fix in terms I can understand, as I'm am not a mechanic. If it can wait he will let me know and if it is urgent he will help me understand why. I love working with Javier and know he is always looking out for my best interests. I recommend him and hold him in the highest regard. If you have an Audi or VW there is no one better in the Boston area than BA and Javier to service your car. I've never written a Yelp review because I'm never as enthused about a business as I am about Boston Automotive, so bear with me and sorry for the length... This past December I was in the market for a used vehicle when my eyes rested upon a 2008 Audi A6 4.2. I'd never owned a German luxury car before but from word of mouth had heard about the high cost of maintenance and constant visits to the dealer. I knew that before I even considered purchasing the car it was imperative that a mechanic take a look at it. Problem was I recently moved to this area and didn't know who I could trust to truly know the ins and outs of Audis, which seem to be quite complex. Randomly, I found Boston Automotive here on Yelp and figured I didn't have much to lose...which is where Javier comes in. I test drove the A6 from the dealer and brought it into the shop. Javier and his colleague performed an extremely thorough inspection which thankfully revealed no mechanical or computer issues, and he also took the time to point out slight cosmetic blemishes that I had overlooked. Leaving his shop I felt more than confident to invest in the car. Fast forward to yesterday... I had talked to Javier a couple days prior about replacing the battery on my A6. I never made an appointment and showed up at his shop less than 2 hours before close. The garage bay was full of vehicles before mine that needed to be worked on and Javier told me that if I could leave the car for an hour he would try his best to get to it(apparently when changing an Audi battery the onboard computers need to be reset, and memory settings recovered). Less than 40 mins later he called to tell me that my car was ready for pickup! The best part about it is that he charged considerably less than what Audi Burlington had quoted me! What really impressed me however was the keen eye and attention to detail of Javier and his crew. While changing the battery they took it upon themselves to transfer the Audi logo wheel cap from the rim of the flat tire in the trunk to the spare that I had just put on the car. Before, there was an unsightly hole in the center of the rim on the spare. Thanks to the guys, now all four rims match again. I can wholeheartedly say Boston Automotive is the only place I will ever take my Audi to be serviced. The attention to detail/high quality of workmanship/cost effectiveness coupled with the awesome customer service and integrity of the staff definitely warrant the 25 mile trek from where I live. read more

Was from out of town when one of my tires popped just outside of Boston. Stuck, I took my VW rolling on a limp donut to Javier and he set everything straight. I was really worried I would be out a lot of money with tires, labor, whatever funky was going on electronically, etc etc but he had the car done in a day and did not charge me a ridiculous price even though he could have since I needed the wheels to get back home. After this experience, I wish Javier was my full time mechanic because he treated me just as fair (if not more competitive pricing) than my regular guy; he was quick; he called before he did anything that would have costed more and he sends the bill via email which is a godsend for saving records. My dad's a "car guy;" I've been around car guys all my life... many of which, treat their female customers very differently from their male customers. Javier was nothing less than professional, and I don't believe I received any different service because of my gender which was most appreciated! Lastly, seems like a family business; he's got pictures of his kids on the wall so it feels good knowing I'm helping to feed his family and not giving my dollars to a millionaire.... read more

I am giving this place 5 stars. I brought in my BMW and the owner (Javier - ask for him by name) address all of my concerns. Most of it was not from the work he would do since it was basically a general tune up and an oil change. Most of it was his ability to make me believe and trust in his integrity and ethics, that he would not cheat me or take advantage of my lack of car knowledge because I am a woman. I am business savvy but I know what it is like to be on the short end of the stick because I personally don't know much about cars. Javier took time in his very busy day when I dropped in. He took time explaining what he would do, that he would get to the know car and over time be able to develop a feel and a relationship for the car and how he needs to care for it. I really liked that. When the car was being worked on, he recommended spark plugs and a brake flush. He said I would need new brakes but not now - I can wait. And a few other things. He gave me percentages and estimates on when I should become concerned. There was no pressure and he treated me like I was a valued customer who knew and understood a thing or two about cars! A few weeks later, due a flash flood and the water level that went above the headlights, the engine was hydrolocked. Javier is toiling away trying to get it to work again. The guy is great. My husband has also dealt with him,. My husband worked in automotive manufacturing for 20 years,. He told me that Javier is a stand up guy and knows a thing or two about cars - that's a compliment if I ever heard one! Go to Javier. A complete rip-off. My check engine light came on, so I called here and they said they could run a diagnostic for me without an appointment. Great! I bring it in. They say I have to leave it for at least 2+ hours AND they charge $99 just for the diagnostic! I may not know how to fix cars, but I am the daughter of a mechanic, so I know when I'm being ripped off. I went to MacKenzie right down the street and had an answer in less than 5 minutes. I have been to a handful of dealers/mechanics and always left feeling ripped off, that is until I recently discovered Boston Automotive. The owner (Javier) is extremely focused on customer service. The same day I dropped off my A4, he: -did a full diagnosis of the vehicle -sent me an email outlining each issue and the order of importance -called me to explain which things were more urgent, which to keep an eye on for later Javier wants to do what's best for the customer - I told him we were looking to keep the car for another year at most and he told me exactly what work needed to be done and nothing more. I told him I was thinking about another Audi and he offered consultation about different years/makes and what I should expect to pay in yearly maintenance. If you own a VW, bring your car here and nowhere else. I went to a regular mechanic to have my thermostat replaced and broke down on the highway shortly after. Sears incorrectly diagnosed the problem (simple re-program of my alternator) and sent me back on the road. After the check engine light came back on and Sears quoted me for a $400+ fix (air induction system), I called Boston Automotive. Boston Automotive was recommended by another VW owner who raved about after hearing Javier and his team. Javier explained upfront that VWs required more highly trained mechanics than what you typically find at a local garage and at Sears. He spent time with the car and explained what had caused me to break down and why the check engine light was still on (cooler hose disconnected). Long story short- I am extremely thankful to have found Boston Automotive and will not go anywhere else! read more

They fixed what the dealer could not (as another reviewer alluded to), did it in a reasonable timeframe, and clearly communicated their progress throughout the process. Boston Automotive charged me almost $1000 and didn't fix the problem. I brought my car in for a check engine light. Boston Automotive told me the price to repair the issue would be almost $1K. Although the cost was high I had the repairs done because I figured it would be money well spent. WRONG. A day after picking the car up the check engine light went back on. When I contacted them I was told, for the first time, that there was a secondary problem that they didn't fix. This was the first and only time I ever heard of a secondary problem. Javier told me it wasn't a big deal & didn't need to be fixed until I went for an inspection sticker. Obviously I wouldn't get the sticker with a check engine light on. Upon bringing the car to another mechanic we found a completely different problem with no indication that the Boston Automotive repairs were even necessary. Boston Automotive charges dealer prices without dealer precision. I would never go back. read more

Do not trust Javier with your car! I made that mistake. Took my car in to just get a diagnostics on the noise that engine seem to make. it was kept for two weeks. When I called to check on it after a week I was told that the car has been taken apart to check on the engine and that I need to pay $1,000 (one thousand!) to put it back together and that it would take a few days. When a few days later came to pick it up - the engine check light that was not there when I brought the car in. Also the front hood holder was broken. They (Javier) refused to fix the light or the holder without cost. I had to take the car to a dealer and pay another $1,300 to fix the engine light. He (Javier) is incompetent and ignored mechanic in my opinion. Do not trust this shop with your car. I would give it NO star if it was an option here. Terrible shop. read more

My wife and I have been taking our cars to Javier at Boston Automotive for close to 15 years now (even back when he was working at Swedish Motors, before he opened his own place). I live over an hour outside of Boston now and would never consider taking my cars anywhere else - he knows the vehicles inside and out and takes immense pride in his work. There are no surprises, he fixes what you ask him to fix, and he'll call you before doing anything if you ask him to or tell him you need to stay under a certain dollar amount. He's also very candid about when it makes sense to pay more for manufacturer parts versus used or after-market, and has always given me the choice to override his recommendation (which I actually never have). Dropped off my 2011 VW Tiguan in for a check-up. Javier, the owner, was courteous and very easy to work with. Boston Automotive specializes in VW and Audi. I was concerned about the battery and brakes because the vehicle is 4 years old. We did not drive the vehicle very much this past year but it does have about 35,000 miles. He personally test drove the vehicle with me. When i returned to pick up the vehicle, he explained that the vehicle didn't need a new battery and showed me the test results. He explained that my brakes were fine, inspected and rotated my tires and performed an oil change with synthetic oil, replaced in-cabin filter. He didn't up-sell or replace/repair anything that wasn't necessary. The whole vehicle inspection was complimentary for a first time customer. The same service performed at a dealership would have cost three times as much. Javier reaffirmed my faith in the honesty, competence and integrity of small business. I have an aging car that is beginning to need a few repairs - nothing crazy, but it's not new anymore. My previous mechanic left the business, so I asked around and learned about Boston Automotive from a friend who is also a car mechanic (but he doesn't do my brand). I took my car in and met Javier, who I believe is the owner. My car needed a few things, and though I'm familiar with cars, I wasn't aware of some of the idiosyncrasies of the engine my car has. Javier patiently explained the problem to me, and happened to have a few cars of the same sort in various states of disrepair so that he could demonstrate the problems. I ended up having him do some repairs as well as replace the timing belt and water pump, which is required as preventive maintenance on these cars. In the end he did a great job, finished on time, slightly under the estimated cost, and made efforts to save me a few bucks where he could. His rates are reasonable, and even competitive, he threw in a few nice freebies (an oil change, for instance), and, best of all, he did quality work. He said he'd stand behind it, if anything went wrong. As much as I'd like to take him up on this offer, nothing has gone wrong. I'm very happy, and have found a new mechanic! read more
