This is THE best place to have your Honda, Toyota, or similar car fixed. But don't be shy about asking if they'll fix any other brand, too. Guang (pronounced Gwong) is the owner and he is hands down, the best auto mechanic I've ever had in my whole life. I started going to him about 15 years ago when he was still in Cambridge MA. He will work hard to fix whatever the problem is. And, for the best price, whether it's labor or parts or both. I used to have a 1998 Nissan and now have a 2007 Honda. He is persistent in his quest to fix your car. When he's found the problem, he'll call you before he fixes it telling you exactly what part needs to be replaced, how much time it will take, and the total estimated charge - which is always spot-on. Guang and his crew are the absolute best. Originally from Cambridge, Guang moved to Braintree within the last year. Living in the Boston area, there are so many other shops closer to where I live. I STILL choose to make the trek to Braintree to get my car serviced. I drive a 2010 Camry and he treats it well. From something as simple as an oil change, to getting my tires rotated, to fixing a leak on my sunroof, he always get the job done. I used to use nationally recognized franchised repair houses like Sullivan Tire until I realized that they only pretend to do professional job and don't do all the work they are supposed to. Trying to hold them accountable is next to impossible, because you get sales bozo on the phone who knows nothing about the car, and all they can do is to tell you what's in their repair record. Of course, what matters are what the mechanic actually found out, what they decided to work on, and what I get billed for. In my recent cases, without going too much detail, a nationally recognized tire franchise did a very lousy job and billed me for the professional work a couple of times in a row. They didn't clean the dirty rim before putting the new tire on, they didn't replace the leaky valve, etc... I came across Tat On Auto because of the referral from the next door, Hermes Auto Body, for which I also posted a favorable review, does not do tire job. Guang, the owner and one of the mechanics, did a very fine job, explained the problem clearly, and billed me at his regular rate, which was less than what I paid the national tire shop using AAA discount for the same job, tire replacement. Guang seemed very talkative and nice guy, but his English is just a tiny bit less than perfect. But he still showed me what he found to require cleaning, replacement, adjustment, etc. and I was confident that he did the right job. About the only advantage of big franchises is that they may have odd sized tires in stock, whereas these small garages may have to have one delivered, taking a half day longer to complete the job. As a local small business owner and supporter of local economy, I strongly urged the owner to use more internet advertising effectively, but he is not very computer savvy. So this review you are reading is a small bit of my social justice for the day. Those who prefer big franchise may pay a premium price for lousy service but you don't have to be one of those. read more

I found this place by looking at reviews and I have to say, they definitely lived up to the five stars! First, I called after 6:30pm on Tuesday, when I ridiculously drove my car right into a curb, puncturing a tire. I was not expecting anyone to answer, but Guang did, and he was more than happy to have me drop the car off right then and there so he could look at it in the morning. He called me the next day with two options, one was to replace the tire with one exactly the same as what I had, which was a little more expensive. The other option was to replace it with a different tire and save money. I appreciated having the choice and the fact that he cared about saving me some money. I went with the same tire, since the difference wasn't huge. In fact, the price was right in general. I'm no expert on the price of new tires plus labor, but I felt it was reasonable and fair. That evening after work I picked up my car with it's shiny new tire, and the whole experience was relatively painless. Guang and his staff were very friendly and non judgemental about me having plowed my car directly into a curb. Of course, as soon as I left there, I parked at the grocery store and immediately locked my keys in the car, but that's a story for another day. Bottom line - I'll be using Tat On Auto again and so should you. read more

Honest, trustworthy and overall wonderful service. The AC on my husband's car broke and they looked at parts from the dealer, which ended up being ridiculously expensive. Guang, the owner, suggested we look online and buy the parts on our own, which saved us a ton of money! In the end, we paid TAT just for the labor piece of replacing the coolant thingamajig. (I'm a girl..what do I know about cars...) Also, we were out of town once and couldn't pick up our car in time. A good and honest mechanic is hard to find, so if you're looking for one then seriously look no further. I found these guys on Yelp a few years ago and decided to give them a shot..... been using them ever since. They are friendly, hard working and their prices are more than fair (especially compared to a dealer). The quote you get before they do the work is what you'll pay when the work is done 99.9% of the time. My truck has a lot of miles so these guys have done a lot of work for me in the past.... exhausts, brakes, fuel pumps, shocks, tie rods.... and I've always been pleased with the results. Funny thing is, I've historically been a DIY (do it yourself) type of guy, but now that I've found Tat On I don't mind taking my truck to them for jobs I used to do myself. Saves me a lot of time, frustration and now I don't have to bust my knuckles or get covered in dirt and grease like I used to. All I know is I've been reading Yelp for years, but this is my first Yelp rating I've written because it's the first time I've come across a business which has impressed me to the point where I felt obligated to write a 5-star review. Really good mechanics. Helped me with my Honda Civic (20+old car) . Very honest and accommodating ....will try to help you out till the very end . Ask for Guang Edit: They have several locations up in Cambridge. It's not too convenient for me since I live South of Charles but I go here a lot to get their feedback. How lucky am I. Currently have them fixing up my old Honda civic and potentially selling it off. There's no one I'd rather sell my car/ parts to other than these guys. 2018 Volvo XC60 brought to Prime Volvo in Rockland for recall item. They fixed it and told my she needed rear brake pads and rotors plus wheels balanced for $940. She called me asked what she should do. I told her not to do it and bring car home as is and we will address it. It was ok to drive. I brought it to TAT auto Service in Braintree and Guang said he will look at it. I made appt. and brought it in. He inspected brakes and said rotors are smooth and perfectly fine. But pads did need replaced. All done for $250. He got the Brake pads from Volvo....Haah. Very sincere and very honest. Highly recommend. read more

I used to go here for all my car troubles with no problem. He knows me by name and number. I really enjoyed his services. Today I referred my mom and Guang whom was very rude to her. We dropped off her car at 11:30am, and by 5:00pm he still had not looked at the car. My mother explained to me when she entered the store to get an update he ignored her and told her to take it to the dealership without an explanation. I was confused and contacted him myself. He told me he did not like my mother and he did not want her business. He would not admit he didn't look at the car, he just said she already picked it up. Quite simply, Guang does amazing work! More on the level of a craftsman than a mechanic. I'm a pretty experienced mechanic and have always done all my own work on my Acura TSX and Mercedes wagon having been ripped off with shoddy work or overcharging in the past. I have used Tat on Auto for two years now, and just recently joined Yelp today solely because Guang, the owner, has done yet another out standing job for me. Guang and his staff are the best. They will get the work done quickly, they're honest, and Guang does his best to make his services affordable. I've recommended him to almost all my friends, and in several instances he has saved them substantial amounts of money. We were quoted almost over $500 for front end work by Sullivan tire, Guang determined the majority of what they were telling us had to be done was in fact fine, and he came back to us with a $150 fix. Another time we had an exhuast leak. Rather than replace the whole thing, which was what Meineke wanted us to, he welded a patch on. Saved us a ridiculous amount of money. If you want honesty and someone that wants to save you money, will do great work, and actually cares about their customers, go to Guang. read more

Quality service! I ran over a bad pothole that dented the rim of my front tire and made my hubcap pop off--I brought my 2015 corolla to Guang's garage the next day & he helped me fix everything. Added air to my tires, fixed the dented rim, popped on another cap & gave me suggestions on what types of hubcaps to buy for future reference. My car was in and out of the body shop within an hour. Tat On Auto Service truly deserves a 5-star rating. We have three cars, and two of them are 10+ year-old Golf and Passat. The cars are still running around fine, but periodically require various fixes just like any old cars. The VW dealers around Boston are a pain to deal with, and should be avoided like a plague. We used to live in Cambridge, and Tat On was our friendly neighborhood body shop. I used to drop off my cars and just walked back home. Guang (the owner) would do a thorough job each time, and would make sound recommendations on what needed to fix and what not. When I picked up the cars, Guang would walk me through the long list of work he had done, and I would always be amazed at how little I paid for all the works. My experiences with VW dealers were the exact opposite. Now we have moved to Newton, and it is not as convenient to drop off the cars. I still find myself going back to Tat On. If you find a good body shop, stick to it. I spend almost 2 hours on the road every day, and I really need to trust the guy who fixes my cars. read more

Turns out you can find one by typing in nearby mechanic on your yelp phone app when your engine light comes on! Guang and the gang are the most experienced and hard working team I have dealt with in this area. I have been living in Cambridge for years and wish I had found them sooner. I have been bringing my car there for about 5 years and every time I go I am more impressed. They will fix things at a minimum rate for me and their turnaround time is always quick and efficient. I had a real fiasco with Jack's Gas who failed my inspection twice but wouldn't really tell me what needed to be done. If yelp allows will give them 10 stars! Due to a small accident I need replace the wing side mirror (the whole mirror, not just the glass). I bought the part from ebay and first went to the garage near my home which also had high reviews on yelp. They first told me it would need about half an hour to one hour. However, after two hours they were still reading the diagram and hadn't yet started! I decided to leave and was going to turn to the Audi dealer. The dealer gave me a quote for ~ $280 and say it would take a couple of hours. Fortunately I talked to my friend before going there. He referred me to Tat On for his 10+ years of good experience there. I called. Guang answered the phone and estimated for half an hours work. It eventually took about 40 mins work due to the condition of the car, and I was charged only $40 for the perfect work they did, that's merely 1/6 of the dealer's price!!! And the job was done perfectly, even the loose sealing of the door was fixed. I would go nowhere else than Tat On for any future repair! read more
