The good: -Once you get them talking, they're friendly, which is the 1 star. The bad: -They don't listen to clients and/or know how to fix some problems. I asked if they could fix xyz that was already diagnosed. They said yes. I dropped it off and later that day, they said xyz was fixed. I asked "Are you sure you fixed it? Can you confirm a mechanic drove the car off the lot to double check?" They replied "yes". In total, I spent 3.5 hours between public transit and driving going back and forth to them. I picked up the car, paid $90, drove it off the lot, and within 15 seconds noticed it wasn't fixed. I had to schedule an appointment the following week. When I went down again, I made a mechanic drive around the streets with me so he could witness xyz. Got back to the shop and he, along with other staff, were like oh wow this is going to require so much more work, we didn't check for xyz. Then I reminded them that their only job was to check xyz, nothing else. They said they could send me a quote in the next couple days do what they were supposed to do to begin with. I never heard back. Never got the $90 back from when they screwed up either. read more

My sisters 2005 BNW had no air conditioning, and she took the problem to her regular shop. Her shop informed it was not fixable there due to car needing an evaporator and that type of repair was not done at their shop. Repair was too time consuming for a small garage. They suggested Import Auto Werks instead of going to a BMW dealer. I met Alvin the owner and he informed he would do that type of repair by he was on vacation soon and appointment would be needed. Agreed and dropped off car day before appointment. Alvin the owner of the shop that before any work starts, the car receives a complimentary inspection. Anything the shop finds for problems you may say yes or no to the repairs. No pressure sale to fix problems that shop found. Alvin had a date that the repairs to be complete. But the day before pickup, there was a snafu in one of the additional repairs. Since the date for the car was not going to be met, he apologized and informed he would obtain a rental car so that my sister could have transportation for the weekend. I could not tell you how much I appreciated that. But she had no weekend plans and she passed on rental. Car was ready the next business day and to settle the bill there an additional option that most shops do not supply. You may also apply for a credit card that if the bill is paid in a 6-month window, no interest rate would be included on the bill. FYI on card, they do not request a payment until 6 months have passed. If you're an individual that budgets, I would suggest spreading out the payments for the 6 months. You would not want to be trying to settle a major bill on the payment due date. Would I suggest Alvin's shop again if a BMW needed a repair that the local repair shop could not perform? Yes! Do not believe the 5 star ratings for this shop. Russell is as slimy as a used car sales person. I had to get my husband involved because of all Russell's double talk & long delays. Dealing with this shop was a nightmare. His over the top sarcastic & rude attitude was unnecessary when asking him for a simple estimate of time to complete the repair, as we're trying to plan a car rental around this. While in Braintree for a hospital visit, 2 hours away from home, our *domestic* minivan began leaking coolant. I have been a customer of Alvin since April 10th of 2009.. I remember the day like it was yesterday.. i was searching for an Independent mechanic on Craiglist when I came upon ad for Alvin's new business..I was looking for someone to do a thrust arm bushing replacement after the dealer had just given a quote of around $700. He had started recently and was looking for customers.. I immediately called and let him know that I had an issue with my thrust arm bushings.. at which point he asked me if I had a 540 or 740? I was sold there and then - because this guy knew his BMWs.. and then when his quote was more than half of the dealer's price.. I knew that this was the way to go.. Since that day, Alvin and his team have helped maintain, service, modify my E39 540, my wife's E46 330Cic, the new E36 M3 and our 1998 Toyota 4Runner.. (although it's the 4Runner that rarely sees any shop time.. ) Alvin is a rare breed when it comes to mechanics.. When I first started coming to him in the Spring of 2009, I explained that i am the type of owner who focuses on pre-maintainance on his cars, but wants to know what the remaining life of the component is.. At the time, my wife seemed to be the one driving the 540 whenever it had a breakdown... so she was the driving force behind finding a low-cost mechanic who could ensure that the car would have no issues.. During his first test drive of the car, he gave his honest opinion on when certain items would need replacing (as opposed to saying that everything needed fixing ASAP) Since that first day of meeting Alvin he and his team have done all of our oil changes, fluid flushes, road inspections and general maintenance. He has also helped turn the 540 from a Luxo-barge highway cruiser into a lightened Autocross/Track car. He has done the following: Fuel System Cleaner, 100K tuneup, Cold Air Intake Install, SSK install, numerous wheel/tire changes, Valve Cover gaskets, Numerous brake/rotor changes, E39 M5 LSD swap, Clutch Slave install, clutch installation, Suspension refresh - new arms, bushings, struts/shocks and springs, camber plate install, 10 Track inspections, brake, transmission and differential oil flush/refills - Numerous test drives For our E46 330Cic - he has done brakes, Secondary air pump, addressed a common problem of burning oil by changing to a different weight oil (this solved the problem, window regulator installs, numerous wheel/tire replacements For the 4Runner - he has done windshield wiper motor replacement, swaybar endlink install, numerous test drives For the E36 M3 - (he colluded with my wife and the seller to convince me the car was a problem car, so that my wife could buy the car herself and surprise me on Father's day with my dream car) All in all, his prices have always been significantly lower than other independent mechanics, he has warrantied his work, provided expert, honest advice on replacement parts, been a great sounding board for future modifications, and been honest and candid about his scheduling restraints.. This year, when the 540 became the track only car - I asked him if I could dedicate the car to him and although hesitant at first, relented to my continual pressure.. (primarily if the car breaks down, it might negatively affect his reputation) I can also say that Alvin is a strong supporter of the Boston Chapter of the BMW Car Club of America and hosts 2 Undercarraige sessions for members throughout the year. I've had few good experiences with auto repair, actually every part of buying and servicing my vehicles has always been terrible. The one exception to the rule is definitely Import Autowerks. Al and his team take care of my old BMW and keep her purring. Prices are fair, service is quick and the customer service is amazing. Last time I got the car serviced, my wife went into labor and I couldn't pick it up. They said don't worry about it and offered to drop it off at my house which I gladly accepted. Since owning my 03 M3, bought used, ive been taking it to the dealership, and not getting good service and the last time i went was horrible, so i searched around and found this place. This was my first time here, and i was satisfied, i felt this would be a good first yep review. I called later in the workday, and left a message of why i was looking for service. Russ called me back later that day, and we talked about what i was looking to do... First off, he was awesome and very personable, i had a good feeling right of the bat. Alvin is very knowledable and friendly as well, met him the day i picked up my car. Anyway, took my car there, they diagnosed the issue, for 1/3rd the price than the dealership. They found the issue and fixed it, something that the dealership never even mentioned. The dealership wanted me to do a full vannos change that would cost $4200. The guys were honest and professional, cant say enough good things. Ill be going back here, won't go anywhere else, and its a 40 min drive for me...totally worth it! read more

Outstanding customer service and exceptional pricing - they take the time to carefully diagnose the problem, explain your options and costs, offer their recommendations, and complete the repairs to your satisfaction. I've brought my cars in for service here a few times - Including oil changes, check engine light (air-sensors needed to be replaced), headlight/tail light replacement on a Toyota Corolla and brakes (complete replacement of rotors, shims and pads) on an Infiniti G35. All OEM stock parts. Saved a lot of money by not going to the dealership (avoiding the dealer's parts markup and higher hourly service rates). I took my car in for a diagnosis of a p0012 code and they said it would cost me 80 for the diagnosis, after doing nothing they said they should charge an extra 150 to see if the oil filter was on and if the vain solenoids were clogged (work 15 minutes) I accepted. at that point my car had been with them for 4 days after that they write to me and tell me that I should pay 450 extra to do that same oil filter and solenoid check, they still haven't checked my bmw. conclusion 230 dollars to give me the same code that they gave me in autozone completely free. I will never go back to this place and I will tell my experience to all my friends who wanted to take their bmw to that place. so you don't waste your money and time. THEY DID NOTHING IN MY CAR THEY SIMPLE PUT THE SCANNER OF THE CODES AND CHARGED ME 230 DOLLARS for something that is free, they did not check anything I am still at the same point, I will take my bmw to Foreign Motorcars BMW Service I hope to have more luck with them read more

The radiator on my 5 series blew out on the highway. I had to keep driving to get off the road safely. Turns out this was a bad idea... as it melted all the pipes and tubing in my engine. I thought my car was totaled after that. Then a friend recommended me to import autowerks. He said there was a guy there named Alvin who was a mechanic at BMW norwood for years. I called a few other places to get an estimate. The prices were all about the same. So I decided to go with the experienced BMW mechanic. I talked to Alvin in person and I knew right off the bat he knew what he was talking about. I can definitely tell he knew the car inside and out. He explained what was needed to be done, the pros/cons etc. I felt confident bringing my car there. Less than a week later my was REPAIRED! All the pipes, tubes, radiator was replaced. My left rear window on my X3 had fallen into the door and I needed it fixed. I called Import Autowerks at 8am and they had ordered the part and fixed it by 3pm. Also, the "Check Engine" light had been on since November and it was magically fixed when I got the car back he said that it must have corrected itself!! This place is definitely THE place to go for all BMW work (except for autobody repairs of course.. this is a mechanic's shop)! Alvin is EXTREMELY knowledgeable in BMWs. Friendly service and reletively fast work. He doesn't like rushing jobs, he likes taking his time to do everything perfectly. His shop is fully equipped and his technicians are just as good as himself. If you ever find yourself bored in the waiting room, have a chat with Russell (front desk guy). The man is hilarious and he also possess a wealth of knowledge. My story: Before I bought my first BMW, I took it to Import Autowerks for a PPI (Prepurchase inspection... highly recommended!) He pointed out various things that were wrong and I am glad he did. I took the car back to the dealership and had them fix those issues before buying it. It was a HUGE money saver. Alan and Russ are true, honest professionals. They were very flexible working with me and my 10yo BMW X3, to the point of uninstalling a part for me because the part ended up costing much more than either of anticipated (and I could get by without it, and without jeopardizing the safety of the car). Prior to starting the work, Russ reviewed it with me via phone and email. He also let me know his recommendation around what to prioritize. I only ended up doing 50% of what needed to be done because I knew I could get by without the other 50%. A new car is definitely on the horizon in 2016, but I've got what I need to get me through the next 12 months. They also cleaned my car and gave me a complimentary calendar! After a harsh New England winter, my BMW was facing a lot of problems and as a college student I didn't have a large budget to get it fixed at a dealership. I spoke to Anthony and gave him my budget of how much I could spend and he gave me his suggestions and a timeline of when it would be fixed. After inspecting the car he informed me of the work that urgently needed to be done and fell within my budget (Definitely much more than I could expect to be done at a dealership). After a week he got my car back to me much faster than his projected timeline. Additionally I informed him of a rattle on my car which I suspected to be the heatshield, when he inspected the heatshield he couldn't find any problems however once I showed him the rattle he immediately knew what it was, within 5-10 minutes it was fixed (rotted bracket). I had a great experience with Import Auto Werks and I definitely look forward to returning for any future work that my car needs. These guys are incredible. I've gone to them several times now and they have been fantastic. My first time in was for a leaking oil pan gasket - a very expensive job. The dealership quoted me $1,650. These guys did it for about $950. They are extremely knowledgeable, explain everything in detail, tell you what can wait and what can't. They have more than earned my trust and as long as I drive a BMW, I'll bring it to them for service. Can't say enough good things about these guys. Stop getting ripped off by the dealer and come here instead. And if you read some of my other reviews, you'll see that I don't dispense praise easily. I took my car in for a major engine issue and I will never take my BMW to any other shop including the dealer. These guys know what they are doing and have a ton of experience. They fixed everything that the car needed done and even added some extra parts the car needed at no cost above what was quoted. They ran through the entire car meticulously without my asking or charging me any diagnostic or labor charge. I stopped going to these guys about over a year now because of the distance I had to travel to go to them. The reason I decided to go see them was because they specialized in BMW and they had good reviews on yelp. I had a few things done from them like oil change, spark plugs, oil leaks etc. I'm disappointed to say that a few days ago my check engine light came on and my car starting making this whistling sound, that was coming from the engine. After doin my research and taking my car to Herb Chamber of BMW and other mechanics that specialized in German vehicles I was told I needed a new "valve cover gasket" which I had already replaced with Import AutoWerks back in August of 2016. Luckily I still had the receipt for the work they SAID they did that date. I called and spoke to RUSS whose the secretary there and was told that my warranty of a year had expired and they couldn't do anything to help me after spending $563 on a NEW "valve cover gasket" Russ told me they buy their parts directly from BMW so it makes no sense to me how a part that's made for your vehicle couldn't last more than a year and a half especially that I only put 15k miles on it since they last replaced it. Russ gave me the run around and told me that there's a cheat they can do but wouldn't guaranteed that it will resolve my problem. I told him why do I have to pay twice and do a "cheat" to fix the very same problem I paid them to do less than two years ago. He said "there's nothing I can do for you buddy, hahaha sorry" In a very sarcastic way. He said to fix the problem I needed to pay them another $563. He knows the job they did was not done correctly. At this point I don't know if they even replaced the part. You've been warned! Don't let the good reviews fool you. read more

I recently had my breaks and oil change done here. I am very satisfied with the prices and results, however; the people who works here are super friendly and awesome. I appreciated them getting my car done within a small amount of time-frame. Ask for Alvin! He's great at explaining and answering any questions you may have regarding about your car. I am pleased that they took the time to vacuum my car which I was very surprised and overjoyed with this added kindness bonus. Brought my M roadster in for an oil change. Went to pick it up and Alvin said the engine sounded funny and to take a listen. Compared it to another 3 series M engine and heard a faint clicking sound. Told me to do some research, no pressure, but likely the VANOS bolt, maybe the unit. Researched it, was a problem that showed up a bit and said go ahead. Lucky I did since was worse than thought, actually was the VANOS unit had a sheared part in engine, close to losing it. Shop was incredible, even worked with a Third Party warranty company to cover most of the work, used OEM parts shipped from Germany. Car runs incredibly now.
