Boston Bowl is a classic spot you'd come to growing up in Boston. We came here for an unplanned date night and had a great time. You can pay to play as little as one game of bowling, or obviously more if you'd like. If you don't want to bowl, they have a billiards room, an arcade, and AR darts. Plus there's a food spot which you can dine in or bring to whatever game you're playing. Prices are pretty reasonable and they offer certain discounts for students and I believe seniors. It was pretty packed on a Sunday night but we were able to walk in and grab a lane. Food was also good, although a little pricey and took like as there was only one woman behind the counter and two in the kitchen. Despite the wait for the food and drinks, the staff were working hard and did a good job. It was fun seeing my boyfriends childhood spot, and nice to see families and friends gathering around to have some in-person fun again. I have been going to Boston Bowl in Dorchester since my kids were little and we used to have their birthday parties there, they loved the ARCADE! I avoid that now, but it's great for the kids... and now I am a senior citizen and I am back working on my bowling game both alone or with my friends. I had a great time on each occasion I've come over and I love the senior discount M - F 9 - 5 pm 40% off your games it's a nice benefit for us retirees as bowling these days can get expensive, but it's great to get out of the house during the week and get some exercise. (Bowling is a workout, whew!) They also have the pool hall of course and that includes some new features, they have a video dart game and they have a TV that has the news on it and of course the pool tables. A nice new addition is the new restaurant that offers food and drink that is absolutely delish! The pizza, wings & fries I've tried and I love but the burgers looked wonderful.. will try that next time. My only problem was that a game malfunctioned on us and I did have a hard time making the staff understand that we lost half of our first game on #21 (I'm saying the number in hopes that it will be fixed soon...) it went zonky on us and skipped ahead to our 2nd game.. but eventually they did get my drift and they moved us to a new alley and all was well. Boston Bowl is a great place to go for bowling & pool! If you're a student, you can get a free game on Thursdays! Just bring your student ID. Also, we came in on a week day and bowling is 50% off from 10pm-close. Not sure if it's an every day thing or not. The bowling balls can be a little greasy. My guess is lots of people eat and bowl with the same hand. I would just suggest definitely washing your hands for sure afterwards or if you're concerned, bring wipes! The food isn't bad. Boston bowl has always been a hometown staple from the days of it having smoking sections in the billiards room and no arcades to what it is now. BB def always feels a lot cleaner now, i usually come here for bowling more then pool these days. There are discount times and different rates on weekends hourly or by string etc. The new system and lanes seating area is awesome. The food and drinks section is good for bowling alley. Love all the upgrades over the years. The arcade is nice for the kiddos and if you want to win some plushies! Always a chill low-key time with the friends! Definitely has evolved into the family fun center over the years as opposed to the hood rich hangout haha. They also have a section at the end for private party bowling etc too. The restaurant staff offered to bring the food to our tables but then when Id asked they commanded me to bring it myself. Mind you our lane was the furthest out from the kitchen. So I had to make 5 rounds back to back to complete the order; they saw me struggling without help. A bit rude and unreliable if you ask me n they didn't seem happy to welcome customers. The cashiers claimed to be clocking out soon but stayed long after I'd finished. Just be a bit more helpful. My siblings were already at the arcade and I didn't feel comfortable asking them to help, especially since it was my brother's birthday. Even if staff can't deliver all trays at once, offering to help with a few would make a big difference. This small change could really improve the experience for guests. read more

Went with a few friends for NYE around 6pm. Didn't have to wait at all but the crowd started to pick up. Price per game was actually not too bad, maybe $8 per person per game. I liked how their system allows you to customize screen, see data, and the ability to reset and edit score due to error. That's also the downfall. Maybe it was our lane but multiple days, maybe a few too many, the system would pick up the remaining pins but it would drop one so each time the score was off. We were able to reset if it was a full set but when it wasn't, there was nothing we could do read more

So I've been here : Just me and my husband as our then infant watched/ slept. Candlepin! 5 years later at a Crazy birthday full of crazy kids (as a guest) I think this was also for candlepin. Arcade , too. Such great service ! As a family of 3 (kid is 8 now) I appreciate: the kid friendliness of this place (especially the ramps for the balls) , the choice to do candle pin or 10 pin, and the cheesy breadsticks. Bowling shoes have way too much stop to them. The whole purpose of them is to give you some give you can use your legs to put power in the ball... Try using proper form at all and you feel all the power go to you knees instead. They don't allow for any warm up rounds, which really should be a thing. Foods pretty bad too. This happened at the bar section of Boston Bowl. Bartender Natasha overcharged us for 6 shots. When we were ordering, she said herself, that she may not have enough. She began pouring our shots and she ran out around the 4th cup. Instead of opening a new bottle, or grabbing one from the kitchen section, she proceeded to split the initial cups of shots she had already poured (4), and split the liquor into 6 cups. read more

We definitely had fun bowling, but this place is in need of repairs. The bowling balls have dents and cracks on them and once they go up to the max size, they don't have S, M or L sizes. Also, I noticed that the ball would go straight and without fail would curve to the left after some point. Even when my ball went slow and straight, it suddenly turned left. After bowling, we tried our hand at the pool tables. I'm extremely rusty, but there weren't any issues here. The table is based on a timer and will turn off once your time is up. read more

I've been coming here for decades. Some of the same people still work there & I love that. They have a rewards program that I have started to take advantage of. Their food has gotten a lot better over these last few years (with the exception of the terrible Philly egg rolls that have no meat like frozen taquitos), but unfortunately that shorter woman behind the bar hasn't gotten a better attitude. I'm sure she's some type of manager but her customer service skills are truly atrocious. They did some renovations on the lanes and included the experience room which is my favorite. The regular lanes are always malfunctioning & the balls have cracks. Not to mention how they cut your fingers these days. The wait can be a quite long when they have leagues or on the weekends . I would suggest making a reservation if you don't want to wait around or call ahead to see what the wait is like. The drinks are WEAK from where you order food and they don't have a lot of mixers, such a pineapple juice smh. Ps idk why but I love their PIZZA & wing dings, always my go too. read more

I really like this place. They're open 24/7 and have great deals on Monday (half off all games!) Obviously, being 24/7 means the quality isn't quite there, with the oil patterns on the lanes being a bit weird, as well as some denting from people tossing bowling balls down hard onto the wood. Just tried to come here to practice batting and the young kids they have working here are claiming the cages are closed although it hasn't rained much at all today. I think they just don't want to be bothered having to do whatever to make them work. The boy at arcade desk & girl at main desk both couldn't care less that I drove from Quincy to use these. The girl at main desk said there's no manager available after being pressed on whether or not there open claimed "not right now". Fix the machines or get less lazy staff. Every time there's a cloud in the sky your going to not open the cages? C'mon, do better Boston Bowl. I am disappointed. read more

This was a cool place to go because they had a bunch of different activities. We tried the batting cages because we couldn't find anywhere else local that would do it. It still felt a bit grungy and run down. Maybe with a bit of renovations it could bring the vibe up. The bats were kinda low quality but it was overall fun. read more

It used to be a fun place to be here. I went here since I was a teen and it's been some upgrades and renovation to the scene. Still a family oriented place but just not the same vibes like back in days. They have a bar and place that you can order food now .. I gotta say the pizza isn't bad at all but pretty tiny for an 8 dollars pizza pie . Beers are overpriced and food also. I guess if you want bowling this is the place to bring family. If you want more grown and mature people I would hit kings better atmosphere to have fun. The service was terrible at the restaurant and bar area . They just ignore and didn't even acknowledge I was standing there looking directly at them waiting to order and they stand and gather around just talking among themselves . First time going bowling in Boston. Because we are in a "pandemic" they made sure everyone wore they mask while bowling no matter what. They even told us that we couldn't drink nor eat where we bowl. This place is such a disaster but I'm giving it 2 stars because you don't have to wait too long for a lane. The scoreboard and pins kept malfunctioning and we had to get the attendant multiple times to reset the lane. The drinks are extremely overpriced for Dorchester too. We spent about $55 for 5 bud lights/white claws (including tip and tax). Also disappointing that the group next to us who shared the middle table left and never cleaned up their trays of food and the employees there never came to clean it either. Went for a Birthday Party... Have been many times for Cas hanging and its fine, but when its a Birthday Party just make sure you go with someone who has patience... First off the kid in the ticket section who changes in for prizes... GET SOME CUSTOMER SERVICE TRAINING... Grant it there are a lot of bad ass little kids running around, but Im sure at some point in your training or job interview process you had to have been warned you would be working with Children... He would just walk away from the counter, then turn his back on people mid sentence, NO EXCUSE ME, or Just a moment... Have some manners... Been bowling here for over 15+ years and always had a great time bowling. Now they changed the pins setup to wires holding all the pins and is completely horrible. Pin action is horrible. I bowl an 175-215 and out of 3 games not one game went over 175. If you want to bowl to bowl and don't care and have fun this is your place. If your a decent bowling like I am and bowl leagues this is not the place. If you want real bowling go spend the extra 15 min drive and go to westgate lane in brockton. The food here is pretty good tho can't complain about that. read more

I do like coming here for bowling, and they're great because they have frequent specials and discounts so it's worth coming here on one of these times, the only drawback is that there is usually between a 30min-1 hour wait on these special occasions. So, if you'd like to come you might want to bring a book or grab a pool table while you wait since it can get very busy, otherwise you can also come on a rainy random time over the weekend and you won't see that long of a wait. read more

In my line of work it's hard to find things to do while you have down time out of town. The Ramada Inn in Dorchester partnered with the Boston Bowl right next door which is 24 hours and you get a free game when you pay for one. The alley it self is clean and well maintained. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable about the area if you looking for something other than bowling like a theater. They have a Brewery along with a menu full of food choices from chicken to pizza. They also have a "adult" area where there is a full bar low lighting and a few lanes. Great for dates. If your ever in the Boston area and staying at the Ramada Inn with the Bowling alley beside it do yourself a favor a stop in. Side not the have a room full of pool tables and a arcade room as well I have had the pleasure of try either yet. read more

We had our 8 year old's birthday party here and it was great. Candlepin bowling and arcade were both a big hit with the kiddos, the environment was pleasant for grown ups to hang out, all arrangements were professional and well managed, and the back of house tour of the mechanicals of the bowling lanes was a special treat. Not bad, not bad at all! But far from perfect. First, there is a shuttle that runs to this place (or rather the Inn across the parking lot) every half-hour from the JFK/UMASS RedLine MBTA station. It is called the Phillips Family Shuttle. (Call them for hours of operation, as on some days/ times it may not run) Balls are in good condition, and the color coding system with weight and finger sizes is pretty cool! Lanes themselves are in impeccable condition, as I have experienced candle-pin lanes can be a little bumpy sometimes. Lanes also have automatic, computerized scoring. However, the bumpers create a problem when down, as a little piece can stay up. I tried to bowl a ball into the very corner, but missed... because the ball bounced off the sliver of bumper that was still up. Speaking of bumpers, There are many many kids who go to this place, and they can, at time, be a little loud, and quite frankly, a little unsupervised. If you bring kids, make sure they don't go into the lane, to the line on it. They are well oiled, and WICKED slippery. Shoes are rentals, are are okay. When ten pin bowling, when I let the ball go, there was no support for the weight that had suddenly shifted to my foot. Other alleys, and my own shoes (which I had forgotten to bring) are better. Socks are included with shoe rental, you get to keep them, and they are great! (Especially for me, who has trouble finding well fitting socks) (P.S. if you bowl often, buy your own shoes, they are inexpensive, and will pay for themselves after a year just don't wear them anywhere but any alley) Staff tries to be polite, but aren't the nicest people I have ever met, I can't blame them though, as they probably have to deal with a lot from customers. Arcade is geared more towards kids, and is overpriced... about 2X as expensive as similar machines in similar arcades. Location itself isn't the cheapest I've ever been too either. Location is pretty clean though. read more

I don't know why, but we came here at midnight and bowled till 3am on a thursday night... and I had a blast LOL. It's not the cleanest or the "most hip" in terms of the interior, OH and not everyone at the wee hours of the night/morning will be sober in more ways than one, but it's cheap and you get free socks! Also, I think the pins here are lighter than most bowling places because my scores were rocket high (.. I normally suck), so if you're looking to impress, head here! additional note: they charge by the frame, so if you leave mid-game due to technical difficulties (aka the machine broke), you'll still get charged for the frames that you played up to that point. I will go where other reviews haven't, I think. How in the world can you find this place? I live in Dot and there are no signs pointing to this place. You will certainly drive around Morrissey Blvd. like a complete fool if you are not from the neighborhood and you're trying to go bowling here. Its location is obvious from I-93, but that does no good because no one's skydiving off 93 to get there. Long story short: YOU NEED SIGNS UP ON MORRISSEY BOSTON BOWL! And do not tell unsuspecting patrons that you are behind the Dunkin' Donuts. You are NOT. Trees are behind the DD. Okay, rant over. I was here for a child's birthday party. The staff seemed to have things under control, but definitely could have been more pleasant. I'm a stickler for tidiness and all, so I am pleased to report that at 3 p.m., they're doing a good job. I watched parents get in and out of the line for shoes and socks, so that says a lot about the speed of service. I didn't eat anything here except for a strawberry lemonade slush from Deadwood Cafe. It was good, but not $3.30 good, for a small. Kings, this is not, but I love that we have a nice, family bowling alley in the neighborhood. It serves that important purpose. read more

Not a bad spot to get your bowl on in Boston. The alley brought me to the old days at my neighborhood spot where I spent many a night heaving balls of fury down the lane with my friends. There are tons of lanes and the crowd is chill. I did appreciate their giving us socks (to keep!) with our shoe rentals...a very smart and not to mention hygienic move. Boston Bowl is a big, bright bowling center with "regular" bowling as well as many lanes devoted to traditional New England candlepin bowling. I'm no expert on candlepin bowling, but basically the pins are smaller and straight, the ball is smaller and without finger holes, and the downed pins are not cleared between balls. It's a fun, local activity to do with out-of-town visitors, especially on a rainy day. Prices are high, especially if you go during peak hours. For 2 of us, two games of bowling plus shoe rental (which is mandatory) set us back $32. And that was for less than an hour of entertainment! read more

Definitely a wonderful place for hangouts!! If you are in south shore area and if you are looking to embark on a bowling venture with your group then this is the place. The only other place that I have been to and really liked is the Kings at legacy place in Dedham which has ridiculously long wait times. This place never gets too crowded and obviously the best times would be during the day. This place is tucked into the corner behind the Ramada Inn and is hard to find for newbies. To get to this place you will have to get off to the service road from the Morrissey Blvd. As I was saying the good thing about this place is it is open 24*7 and never gets too crowded. The Billiards tables are quite a few in number to accommodate enough customers.They have a decent amount of lanes for bowling. Had no complaints with the bowling lanes the 2 times that I have been to. I felt they are a bit over-priced but considering there aren't many good bowling joints in the Boston area we are no left with no option. The food was ok but I always avoid getting the drinks. Great place to bowl. $3 a game per person on Thursday nights. My friends and I played candle pin because all the other lanes for the regular bowling were filled. You can play pool and there's an arcade. The place is clean, the bathroom is pretty clean. You can get coupons for bowling and pool in The Carriage News or the Collegiate Coupon Book. It's a bit of a trek if you don't live in Dorchester but it's fun to hang out here for a few hours and if it's a nice day, hit the beach too. read more

Had so much fun bowling here with my family and friends on Black Friday. We had a group of 8 and were able to get two lanes without a reservation on a Friday night at 9pm! Amazing!! They have yummy snacks and food, a full bar and a fun atmosphere for the entire family. I love the cute Boston Bowl socks that you get with your sexy rental shoes.
