For our military move, we decided to do a partial do-it-yourself move which means the military…read moremoved most of our stuff and then we did some of it on our own as well. In order to do this we had to have our rig / RV weighed empty and full to prove how much stuff we put into it for the Navy to reimburse us. This dump station had a military approved weigh station and I'm sure they get a lot of business because of their proximity to the Navy base. I did my research and found out that it's about $20 for each weigh ticket and it has to have certain information on it like the name of the service member and the information about what you're being weighed on. They do not need reservations however they have certain hours they are closed and limited hours on the weekends. On our first way through for the empty weigh ticket, It was a little bit tricky to get our 30-ft RV in the right direction to get weighed but we figured it out after a little bit of difficulty. On our second trip through we knew that it was better to make a u-turn at the back of the dump station and pull through the weigh station which made things significantly easier. The people working the weigh station were not super friendly with us, but that might just be due to the fact that they have to sit and smell trash all day. That said, it was super fast to get the weigh tickets and we were out of there in a flash. I don't know about how things go with them on using the actual dump portion of this business, but I assume things would be similar. I also know that Newport residents have a certain amount of poundage they can bring to the dump that's included with their residency, so it would be interesting for people to know that when they move here.

A dumpy place…read more Years ago this place would have been called a dump, now it's a recycling facility. Doesn't matter what they call it, it's still pretty dumpy. Dirty, stinky with piles of stuff everywhere, you will definitely need a shower after visiting this place. But then that's not necessarily a bad thing. Warwick likes to recycle and does a pretty damn good job of it. Over 10,000 tons of stuff like cans, bottles cardboard, electronics. plastic and even major appliances are collected and recycled. The town even makes most of the recycling painless and easy for it's people. Warwick has curb pickup for a lot of the crap but for certain items like yard waste or huge kitchen appliances it is sometimes easier just to bring the stuff to the recycling center yourself. Sure a it's dirty and stinky place but pretty cool in it's own way. Lots of stuff to look at and I always have fun there. Even though Warwick has a very commendable and aggressive recycling program it goes beyond just that. It lets residents come and take nice stinky compost for free. Every year we go and get several truck loads for our garden. Even though we have our own compost bin we just never seem to have enough of the stuff. Now we can get all we want. Recycling is a stinky and sometimes nasty job but so very, very necessary. Warwick makes the job easy with curbside pickup and the recycling center. Plus you can even get all the stinky compost you want. The world is a better because of dirty and stinky places like this.
