As other reviewers have stated, this location has moved to West Concord. I was hesitant to give this place a try due to all the negative reviews, but I've been bringing my rescue Beagle, Walter, to Boston Dog for four months now and it's been nothing but a great experience. Jeremy and his team take wonderful care of him, and went the extra mile to welcome Walter to the pack since he's a bit of a shy guy. Both Walter's separation anxiety and confidence have improved since coming to Boston Dog, as he continues to gain trust in the world and the people in it. The other pups seem very sweet and I'm so happy that he has some new doggie pals to hang with. I find their rates reasonable and I also like that I don't have to make a reservation in advance. The only minor drawback is that they don't accept credit cards, it's either cash or check, but that's not a big deal. read more

We were told over a month ago that they could accommodate our four dogs for a 5 day boarding. We talked about each of the four dogs on the phone, giving a description of their temperament, breed and weight. The person assured us that they have 1 available kennel that can house the dogs together. We sent in all the paperwork that was necessary and never heard back. After repeated calls and emails to get someone to confirm our reservation, we started to worry that something was amiss. Finally, we heard back from them today (we called them), and they told us that they could only accommodate one dog under 20 pounds. This is unacceptable. Now we must scramble 4 days before our trip to find care for our dogs. read more

I have been using boston dog for over a year and my pup seems to love it. The staff is friendly, although I really would like a more detailed update on what he does that day. They are pretty flexible and I can drop my dog off without an appointment. I have never not felt safe leaving him there like it data on other reviews. I'm not sure why people are so upset about their screening process. I was actually pretty nervous before doing it, but they just take an interview with the dog and then you bring him/her into boston dog for a trial day of daycare to see how the dog does. There is no three month trial period. Their prices are comparable to other daycarrs in the area and they have a nice selection of dog food and toys. I do wish they took debit or credit cards to pay for daycare though-paying by check every time is annoying. I also wished their camera on their website worked so I could take a peek at my pup during the day. It concerns me that one of the previous reviews says they don't take the dogs out.i hope that is not true. read more

This place is beyond terrible. I planned on taking my dog here for the weekend, since I was going away. The man who called me to confirm my reservation was very creepy; I was put off. He said this time of year (February vacation) is really not a busy time for them. He said they only board 2-3 dogs at a time and that they're very selective with what dogs they board. I then continued to call my friend who in fact boarded her dog here. She said her dog came home traumatized, never wanting to go back. The workers spray the dogs with water when they bark. A small puppy was yelping in his cage and a worker was spraying him in the face, rather than taking him out. They also tend to not take the dogs out and just let them go to the bathroom in the cages. I ended up cancelling my dogs reservation. Sickening place. If I could give zero stars I would. Shut them down! read more

I had an excellent first experience here and I'm definitely coming back when I am in town at our second home. My previous groomer who I saw for at least 10 years got too expensive for me to justify, so I finally decided to make the break. This was as traumatic as finding a new hairdresser for myself, so it was with much trepidation that I started my search. I was impressed with the overall positive reviews of The Boston Dog Company, I wanted to come in that afternoon, which I booked. When I arrived, the ladies were super friendly and welcoming, which got the first star from me. The store was adorable and spotless, but I wasn't there to shop. I was told they'd need about 4 hours but when I said I needed a slightly earlier grooming, they said no problem. In fact, they called to tell me my dog was ready earlier than planned "GREAT" I was thrilled to see the haircut, and that they had preserved her long feathering, as I had asked. Everything was perfect and even, and she was clearly happy being there. I don't know what kind of shampoo they used, but I appreciated that it was not heavily perfumed, something that always irritated me from the other company. The price was exactly as quoted and everyone said goodbye to me. Excellent service. I liked being there and felt valued as a customer. This is going to be our grooming spot now when we are in town. Final update. I have left Boston Dog. I ultimately didn't feel safe bringing my dogs there any more. Also, I find the owners behavior through social media completely inappropriate. Airing ones dirty laundry on Facebook and attacking bad yelp reviews is never a good practice. It seems odd that there are so many new 5 star reviews- it reeks of management trying to up their review because people are finally realizing what a poor practice they are running and are trying to let people know. Anyways. I am sad to say it. I was a loyal 2-3 times a week customer with 2 dogs and I bought my food and toys there. I'm sure they will do fine without me but they lost a good customer- I also referred friends and new adopters (from the agency a volunteer with) in the area. I hope they get it together! read more

If you want your dog to feel extremely on edge, go here for an interview! A few months ago I brought my dog in for an interview and left really confused - I thought they were supposed to be dog experts..? I think their exclusivity is really a facade. Just because it's hard to get in, doesn't mean your dog will be safe, and doesn't mean they necessarily know what they're doing. My dog plays very well with others. The only fights he's gotten into have been with his brother, over toys and food. When I arrived, there were about 4 staff members there - none of whom greeted or acknowledged my dog, which is unlike any other dog care place I've been to. I was then put into a storage room and told to wait there and keep my dog on the leash. The room was literally filled with bags of dog food. The staff brought in 4 dogs, one at a time, and silently observed how my dog interacted with them (while on leash). There was no "let's have fun and play" kind of a feel, which in my opinion is what you should do upon introducing two dogs. My dog was nervous, and his hair stood up, but he would nicely sniff the other dog, and then go sniffing all the bags of food. I could tell my dog was uneasy about there being so much food. He was distracted by it and maybe feeling possessive over it, but he wasn't mean. But the staff member said to me that he was noticing my dog wasn't being playful enough. The last dog they brought in was 3 times his size, and the first thing she did upon entering the room was jump on my dog and then jump on me. Naturally, my dog doesn't like large animals jumping on his mom, so he snarled. The staff member immediately removed the other dog from the room, before giving my dog any time to realize she was harmless. The staff came back and told me my dog had failed, but that if I socialized him, I could come back in a while and start over. The interview process lasts about 3 months, and there are different phases. At any point during those 3 months your dog can be kicked out, for even minor incidents, i.e. snarling. I have a full time job and simply don't have the leeway to not have reliable dog care. So there was no way I was going back to "try again." Also, one week after the interview, my dog developed kennel cough. The vet said judging from the timeline, he picked it up during the interview. I don't really blame Boston Dog Co for this. My dog was vaccinated against kennel cough, and I'm sure all of their dogs are too, but he picked up a rare strain resistant to the vaccine. So it's not anyone's fault. But it does leave me wondering if they had a coughing dog in their daycare program who they carelessly let be around other dogs. After he recovered from the kennel cough, I brought him to a different dog care place with a one step interview process (drop your dog off for the day and let him have fun). He's been going there ever since and he loves it. More importantly, I trust the staff after seeing how they interact with him. They truly know and understand his personality. read more

The owners are the best! They really care about dogs and you can tell how passionate they are. I have always seen familiar faces when bringing my pup into Boston Dog! The prices are reasonable and they have such cute things in the store also! My dog is my world, and I am confident that she is being attended to all the time. I can only say great things about the Boston Dog Company in Acton. We've been bring our year old puppy there for almost a month now and she just loves going. It is so comforting to know we are leaving her in a clean, friendly, caring environment. We were very impressed with the initial process. Ruby was evaluated prior to signing up. She went for a half day (I think) to meet the staff and the other dogs. Ruby was quite shy in the beginning and I was nervous about her being with possibly aggressive dogs. We had had an incident at a dog park with an aggressive dog a few months before and with Ruby already being shy, I didn't want her to pick up any bad habits or aggressive tendencies. So I felt super comfortable that BDC has this evaluation process. I have to say that the facility is extremely clean and open and bright. You can view your dog at anytime, they actually welcome you to stop in when you're in the area. The dogs have a large open area where they are able to play and romp around. It's so bright and cheery in the main room. Our dog had most of her interactions with other dogs on a leash and we really wanted her to be able to run, play and interact with other dogs off leash and this is just what she does at BDC-Acton. She plays with big dogs and smaller dogs and even has learned fetch there. We've been trying to get her interested in a tennis ball but haven't been too successful. But at BDC she has learned to fetch and return the ball. They play and work with the dogs which is always helpful. The dogs are walked often, which is great to get all of their energy out. Ruby comes home tired but happy. In the morning if you tell her she's going to 'school', I swear she knows because she'll sit by the door waiting for her leash. The staff are wonderful. They are friendly and kind and you can truly see that they care for these dogs. They are so knowledgeable, whether it is about dog food, health and nutrition or behavior. You can tell that they really love dogs. I think their prices are very competitive. We've actually started buying our kibble there and the price is actually less than what we had been paying. I really can not say enough about the new Boston Dog Company. We are so very happy at BDC and so glad they opened in Acton. read more

This review is strictly for the boarding. We went on vacation this week and had to leave our 1 yr old pup for the first time. He's never been away from us since we got him, so needless to say we were very anxious and nervous going into this. We left him at Boston Dog with my moms dog who is his best friend. They had the "room" together all week. Don't expect much as far as appearance of the place. It's nothing special and no fancy additions. With that being said, we will definitely be sending him back next year. The staff were very nice and understood our anxieties about leaving them. They told us to call anytime to check in on them. They were friendly from drop off to pick up and we felt comfortable after speaking to them 3 days in that the dogs were doing well. Our pup was happy as ever to see us and it's like he never left us. After having less than a great experience at another doggie daycare, I brought Molly to Boston Dog when they opened their location in Acton. It has been a fabulous experience for both me and Molly!! The staff is awesome- I really feel that I'm leaving Molly with my friends. She is so happy to jump in the car when I say "Let's go play with the dogs!!" She's happy and exhausted when I pick her up. When they first opened, I stopped by and talked to the owner. I typically leave for work before they're open and come home after they're closed, but he told me that they have a taxi service for an additional fee. That was fine with me. So I spent $100 bringing my dog to the vet to make sure he was good to go for doggie daycare, and then set up an appointment for the evaluation. Even though it was scheduled, the trainer wasn't there to evaluate. I waited a long time for the vet tech to come out and do it instead. This was someone I recognized and who I knew was unqualified to do assessments, so I wasn't at all happy. In any case my boy 'passed', and I was relieved that he would be home alone during a very busy upcoming week. I called up 2 days later and said that I wanted to sign up for doggie daycare for the next 6 days and needed to arrange transportation. Imagine my surprise when they said that they only do that in Boston since they only have the service for clients that are a mile or less away. Funny, I'm less than a mile away, but apparently that didn't matter. So I really can't review BDC for their service, but they get one star for wasting my time and leaving me in a lurch. read more

We are very pleased with Boston Dog doggie daycare in Acton. Our dog is happy to attend, trots right in. We find the staff friendly, professional, and welcoming. They care about the dogs, ours goes over for her tickle, then asks to go into the play room. The facility is clean,. The business hours work for us, we can drop the dog off on the way to work. We're happy with the care she gets. I'd love to get more details about her day, but recognize at pickup, it can be a bit busy. Daycare can be an excellent resource. It has helped our girl to be more comfortable around others. I also know that on daycare days she is happy, entertained, and comes home smiling and exhausted. We've also used Boston Dog for overnight boarding. She stayed in a staff person's home, and the staff allayed my concerns about her well being while we were separated. We felt she was safe and well cared for. We highly recommend Boston Dog for dog daycare - a tired dog is a happy dog! read more

I have been taking my dog to the Acton BDC for about a year. The staff is friendly, my dog seems to like it. You can drop off/pick up your dog anytime. Huge convenience! The only ( maybe major) improvement would be if they could have a better air handling system. read more

I have used Boston Dog Company for months now, and my 1 year old hound LOVES it there. The staff is AMAZING and whenever I have any questions about food, exercise or even my dogs health they are always there to answer my questions. Vader my dog goes to daycare about 4 days a week and loves to play with all of the other dogs whether big or small. The play area is very well monitored and there is always someone in the pen with them, staff is always interacting with them, and adjusting to make sure that none of the dogs get hurt. I would highly recommend this day care to anyone who is looking for a safe, reliable place to send they're dog during the day. Like I said the staff is great they are all extremely knowledgeable about foods, treats, toys, vitamins and supplements, as well as many other products that they carry in store. They have a great selection of high quality food for both dogs and cats. They also offer boarding, and are extremely fairly priced. Our Stella has been going to Boston Dog since she was two months old (she's now over 1 year-old), and she can scarcely contain her excitement when we pull into the parking lot. We have always been greeted warmly by the staff, most of whom know Stella very well, and she, in turn, is quite fond of them. I have been using the services of the Boston Dog Company for almost 4 years and I couldn't be happier with my experience. I have a 4 year old lab named Jeter and he loves this place. I am very protective when it comes to my dog for a number of reasons. He was the runt of the litter and he is very passive so it's easy for other dogs to bully him. In addition, he has been attacked twice (the second time was so bad, he needed stitches in his mouth) and he has had surgery on his right back leg so he can't roughhouse with other dogs. For all of these reasons (and many more) I wanted to find a place that was safe and secure. After weeks of research I found the BDC and schedule an appointment. The owners were very friendly and I was thrilled that they had a selection process to ensure the safety of all dogs. I have been consistently impressed by the staff members who work at Boston Dog Company. They are very attentive to Jeter's needs and have alerted me when they think he is ill. In addition, they have gone out of their way to accommodate me when he needs to board. Created a yelp account so I could maybe save one dog from this awful place. Went in today to register my dog for daycare and the place didn't even look open, but the door was unlocked and when I walked in all the lights were off and there was nobody at the desk. When I walked towards the back (to the sound of crying and barking dogs) there were two teenage employees and one was squirting a crying puppy with a squirt bottle. They didn't see me observing until I knocked on the glass at which point they stopped squirting the dog and told me to wait back at the desk for the manager. At this point I had already made my decision about registering but wanted to let her know about the behavior of the employees. I was met with another teenager who gave me nothing but attitude and said "they do that at every kennel and if you don't like it then just leave". These kids obviously don't care about dogs and need a big lesson on customer service. Absolutely sick to my stomach that I almost brought my dog here. read more

I talked to someone who used the Acton facility. They said they were apprehensive about whether the dogs are actually walked outside. Reason: The dogs indoor were relieving themselves inside the facility (pee and poop). No drainage. The employees would clean up the poop or pee with your regular cleaning sprays and paper towels. I think this teaches a dog to be ok with pooping or peeing indoors. She didn't have the best things too say about this place. She also said the employees would spray dogs with water if they barked or misbehaved. read more

Its a great location. The Staff are wonderful, extreme knowledgeable, and they give me an honest feed back on how my dog did in daycare that day. The retail is excellent, great selection of top brand foods.The owners are nice people they really care about their clients. The evaluation process makes me feel i can trust leaving my dog there because i know she is surrounded by dogs that are already socialized. It's nice to know that i can bring my dog to a nice safe clean daycare. read more

Terrible service. I've never written a review for a company but feel obligated to tell dog owners NOT TO GO HERE! We started coming in Spring 2016, and the company's "rigorous interview process" was 5mins long where my dog was in a storage room and interacted with 2 different dogs. Our dog is the sweetest, friendliest dog, has never bared his teeth or acted vicious in any way, ever. He was accepted. Every time we brought him to daycare, he comes home smelling like a disgusting farm animal. The disorganized staff could NEVER tell us when our pup had last been taken out to the bathroom (its an indoor facility). He came home with a huge bleeding gash in his side and the staff didn't even notice it. He would come home and drink a full bowl of water as if he hadn't had a sip all day. Over the past 8 months our dog never had an issue at daycare until 2 weeks ago. 2 weeks ago our sweet dog was put on "PROBATION" for "anxious barking" as dogs started to be picked up at the end of the day "while all the dogs were sleeping" and that "caused distress to the other dogs." ... They told us if he barks again, he will be kicked out. That is like telling a child they can't cry!!!!! We've used trainers and bark collars and reorienting him when he barks. Our dog hadn't even had his first birthday yet, and while we know he gets anxious occasionally, we couldn't imagine that would cause him to be kicked out. Maybe the staff could distract him, pet him, play with him, or walk him?!?! Our dog craves human attention, yet we never observed a worker actually in the play area with the dogs. We brought our pup to daycare once after this "incident" where he "had a great day" ....yet when my husband drove all the way to daycare to drop him off this morning, our dog was refused as he was apparently "KICKED OUT." We were never notified of this, verbally or in writing, and now we are left with no plans for our dog. After all of the disappointments with this company, we are actually glad to not bring our dog there anymore. Would not recommend this place at all. read more

I started bringing my dog to BDC so she wasn't alone while I was at work and could socialize and play with other pooches. While at first I felt at ease dropping my little one off every morning my feelings have began to change. As commented in other reviews there does seem to be lack of management and communication between workers and clients. When first starting BDC all employees were prompt and the place was always clean and smelled good, then it all seemed to go downhill with the turn over in staff. I arrived one morning to loud rap music playing and the gentleman working yelling shut up to the dogs while on his phone. I waited in the lobby for a good five minutes before I was waited on ,and might I mention the employee didn't even choose to end his phone call before waiting on me. This is an inconvenience as well as un-professiona. While some of the new employees seemed knowledgeable others came off very inexperienced. Another thing that I found rather odd is there were dogs with muzzles and When out of concern I asked why they were muzzled I was told because they were barking. I found this odd as barking is part of the way dogs comunicate. Since that day I have not brought my dog back as I do not feel that my little girl is being taken care of properly. read more
