We found out that the officer in question enjoys making charcuterie platters, so we all agreed to buy her local things from our respective home areas that she can combine for a massive charcuterie basket. Neat idea huh? I told everyone I'd get local jams and honeys from Connecticut and Massachusetts, which explains why I visited Jones Apiaries in Farmington today. They sell honey bee colonies, beekeeping supplies, and house made honey. But don't think there is a store here, because there isn't. Their jars of honey are stacked on a table inside a sun porch at a residential home in a Hartford suburb. One pound jars are $9, 2-lb jars are $17, 5-lb jars are $34 and a gallon jug is $70. You leave your money in a plastic box on the table. You need exact change, because thanks to COVID there is no interaction between buyer and seller. We picked up a one pound jar of pure honey with the Jones logo and labeling, It will make a very nice addition to that charcuterie basket.

When you pull up to the red old barn store you will immediately see an old wooden buggy right out in front that is from the days of yesteryear. Step inside the shop you will see it is loaded with wreaths, regional products, local honey, locally made items, gifts etc. There are also 2 beautiful wooden horse carriages from a Bygone era. This place takes you back to much simpler times. We ended up getting some local honey to go. After you have done your browsing & shopping go across the street The Inn itself has rooms for lodging, there's an inside & outside restaurant & bar. This is the oldest continuously operating Inn in the US dating back to 1716. Drive up the street a bit on the same side & visit the Grist Mill ( a great place to picnic), The Waterfall, The Pond, The Glacier Rocks. The address of the farm is not recognized by the GPS, so continue to drive down the street until you hit the turn with the farm stand. The farm stand has many local goods and allows payment through Venmo or cash. The goats were all friendly and were very well behaved. For the walk it's recommended you wear boots, sneakers are okay if conditions are dry. Just keep in mind you might run into poop and mud on your hike. Early in the hike we saw a bee hive producing honey which was cool. Later we come across some acorns, which the goats love! You just need to take off the top and you can hand feed them to the goats. Later we come across the cows and chickens. The hike was fun and if you love animals, this is probably better than goat yoga. Hannah is such a good guide and she really cares about the farm and animals.
