Black cow is hands down my favorite local ice cream shop. All the ice cream is made on the premises. We have had black raspberry chip, Oreo, coffee Oreo (may have even been mocha), vanilla, licorice, maple walnut... and they have all been excellent. I enjoyed the licorice so much that I cannot wait for them to make it again this year. Our dog tried the doggy ice cream (banana slice peanut butter) and didn't like it... he how we loves the vanilla so we now get him a kiddie size when we got and he has several licks and we can save it in our freezer for the next time he wants some. He isn't spoiled too much, right?? Service is always pretty good but you do have some people who will give you more ice cream than others even though every time we have ordered the same sizes. It is cute inside - they have fudge and ice cream cakes available as well. Primarily I am ordering at the outside window though! Ample parking outside and never an issue getting a spot. read more

I think they're using the term home made quite loosely here. They may do the mix ins and add all the different. "flavors" but the ice cream was quite gummy, which is a hallmark of mass produced ice cream purchased from a factory. I do think the term homemade really needs to be reevaluated for this place as honestly I feel like it was false advertising. So I ordered a banana boat cause I was feeling a little extra. And I was looking at this thing thinking is there even ice cream on this like the scoops were so tiny and the laughably small amount of toppings they put on it was simply a joke. I will say the staff were very kind very polite very professional in the atmosphere and inside is adorable. I like it. But what a disappointment. I've been once about 15 years ago and I don't think I was all that impressed back then, but this just sealed the deal with a lame offering. A true millis staple! The Ice cream is homemade, fun flavors all summer, and there really is something for everyone (pup included!) I love their special flavors - I think they had a lemon cookie one earlier? And the 50% baked? But you can't go wrong with their transitional choco chip cookie dough. Solid two stars. Ordered a regular with two scoops thinking it would have portions like most over the top type ice cream creameries. Instead got two tiny scoops drowned out by the regular sized cup. Think smaller than kiddie sized scoops. Lemon cookie tasted more like banana. The Kahlua chip didn't taste like Kahlua or chip. Might be homemade but they must use a premade base as it just wasn't very creamy. Would definitely not go back, way better alternatives in surrounding towns. I took a ride to Black Cow in Millis the other day only to discover they aren't open for the season yet. I go there once a week for my Chocolate Frappe (I do consider myself an expert) so I can't wait. I have had Frappes from many other establishments and they don't compare either in quality of ice cream or price or service. Also, you can sit outside at picnic tables and bring your pets or sit inside in the air conditioning when it's really hot out if you don't want to sit inside your car. Charlotte, the owner and her family and newlywed husband, do an excellent job of rotating the homemade flavors! It truly is a local, traditional drive up ice cream shop. While our ice cream was enjoyed ( in particular my husband who thought the orange pineapple was the best he'd ever had), I was shocked they had no high chairs. It's not easy having a 20 month old enjoy his ice cream cone in an adult sized chair unable to reach the table ... though he did a pretty stellar job. There was plenty of indoor seating ... They have ample space indoor and outdoor, and ample parking. The flavors are delicious and each one better than the next. They have the good sprinkles. Too bad they mean it is the best in Medway because there is not other competition. They have maybe 10 flavors and the sizes are decent but the ice cream tastes average and is just downright boring and not creamy. Phantom Gourmet praises this place for a reason! Even though it is located in the small town of Millis in-between a bunch of industrial companies it is a shining star!! Where else can you get homemade ice cream where they use a whole SLEEVE of oreos?! Or supremely generous portions for that matter. From Phantom's Review: "Ice cream lovers stay till the cows come home for flavors like Red Raspberry Truffle, Orange Chip, and Crème Brulee. Moved to the area almost two years ago, and found this gem shortly thereafter. WOW! If you like homemade ice cream, you'll love the Black Cow. Decorated like an old-school sodapop, with a friendly staff, The Black Cow is definitely worth a visit. Three dozen or so flavors, each as creamy and delicious as your favorites from chains like Coldstone or Friendly's. And, it's a Phantom Gourmet Hidden Jewel, which doesn't hurt. Quite simply, the best hand made, small batch, ice cream in Massachusetts. Period. Using only high butter fat cream and incorporating very little air this is the definition of hand made, small batch ice cream. While all of the usual flavor are available, take a chance and try one of the weekly "special" flavors. Among those, the "sweet cream with cranberries" is a classic combination that harks back to the hand churned ice cream we used to make on those hot summers evenings using fresh cream from the local dairy. Really great little ice cream place that I got to try when visiting friends in Holliston. From the outside, it's rather unassuming, but the inside space is super cute. The ice cream was delicious! I had banana oreo and gingersnap, and both of them were delectable, down to the last drop. Black Cow has a lot of unique flavors, as well as the standards. My boyfriend is a huge homemade ice cream fan, and he raved about his as well (Kahlua chip and something to do with mud...mud pie, maybe?). The fudge, displayed on a counter inside, also looked amazing, but I was able to resist, since I had completely filled myself up with ice cream. Definitely on my list to try for next time! read more

I think I've tried most of the coffee heath frozen yogurts in Eastern MA, and the Black Cow has the best, hands down. I love that their yogurt tastes like premium ice cream, and the huge toffee pieces are a great addition to the smooth coffee frozen yogurt. read more
