I am an ice cream nut. Yeah I said it. When traveling I often will go to several ice cream shops in a day to "sample" their wares. (Oddly my samples are always large.. hmm). This time I was with a bunch of family members which always makes things more fun. The JJ's location is nice, the picnic tables are nice, the service was excellent, and the ice cream.. ok. I mean ice cream is rarely not good but this turned out to not be made on premises and was just Richardson's ice cream, which is just.. ok. We stopped by this exactly-what-you-expect ice cream store when we were in town, they have a great selection of ice creams and other frozen treats. We had a few of the ice creams and a shake and all the flavors where on point! The ice cream was creamy and well balanced even on the items you'd consider over-indulgent (like the German chocolate cake - delicious!) What a great assortment of flavors! Seasonal apple crisp, pumpkin, campfire, s'mores, and so many more. Amazing prices compared to where we live. We were passing through after going to a baby's 1st birthday party in the area. We were far from home and this stop really made our day! This was a fun place to visit with my nephews over the weekend. We got there on Saturday night around 8:00 which can usually be a busy time for an ice cream place on a nice warm night. Surprisingly the lines were not too long and we were helped pretty quickly. I ended up getting the graham cracker ice cream and the s'mores. I preferred the s'mores to the graham cracker. The portions were HUGE. I ordered 2 scoops in a cup and it was more than I should have eaten. My oldest nephew grabbed a milk shake which he said was good and the youngest guy got cotton candy ice cream in a cone. He ate almost the whole thing and he's a little guy! The total for the 3 of us was $12. I felt the ice cream was a little underwhelming. I look forward to coming back and trying other flavors, because the flavors I had were good, but nothing as amazing as all these 5 star reviews. I also didn't love how there was no real line, people were standing everywhere and we had 2 people who ended up going ahead of us that got there after us. It's fine because we weren't in a rush but I can imagine when it's a little busier that this could be a potential problem. I liked that there are picnic tables around in the front and side of the building - so plenty of space to enjoy your ice cream treats. The parking lot is very small. read more

All who know me know that my favorite ice-cream is JJ's Mint Patty Frozen Yogurt. I live in Brooklyn, but grew up in Upton, and so whenever I'm home in the summer is it ALWAYS on the agenda. I haven't found another ice-cream shop that sells frozen yogurt in the form of hard ice-cream quite this good. Plus, it doesn't have those tangy yogurt flavors fro-yo has. The mini dark chocolate mint patty's and chips are perfectly bitter and not too sweet. I top mine with chocolate sprinkles because I enjoy the extra crunch. My husband loves any combination of chocolate and peanut butter, so in time he has tested all of the flavors that include this combo. He's decided the best one is the peanut butter Oreo ice-cream topped with hot fudge. He claims JJ's fudge is superior to others. They are cash only. There is plenty of space in the front of the shop for social distancing, and well spaced lines. Even if the line seems long, the wait is not - they're working fast. The ONLY reason I am not giving this a 5-star review is due to the use of styrofoam cups. Although they're cheap and well insulated for ice-cream, their impact on our home (this planet) is devastating...they do not break down. Paper cups would be so much better! read more

JJ's more than fits the bill. the prices are a little high, the portions are a lot large (order the kiddie- you'll thank me), and the ice cream flavors are plentiful and absolutely delicious. we've lived here just a few weeks, and we've already been 5 times. i think that about says it. favorite flavors include grapenut custard, german chocolate cake, and milky way. a few of their flavors are good, but mild in potency, including pistachio and peach. the blueberry pie is also phenomenal. you should definitely go, if you are in the area. read more
