I gave this a hotel a 7 of 10 on the survey Marriott sent me. I'll note that it would be a 3 1/2 if that were an option here, but I am rounding down for reasons described. The biggest discontent came learning upon check-in that there is a parking charge. I don't recall seeing that on the website or in the correspondence sent to me, but I am not saying it wasn't there, somewhere, at some type size. I didn't think a hotel this distance from central Boston would charge for parking. That added $20 plus tax each night to the bill. There are no microwaves in the rooms. That is something that chains of lower status that Marriott make standard (IHG, BW). There was a microwave for public use--that's right--*1* for a hotel this size (BIG). At least there was only 1 I was aware of, there may have been 1 or more others somewhere else, but they were scarce if there were any beyond that 1. I will say I didn't need to wait any time I used it; I just had to go up and down the elevator 3 flights. I used it 3 times I tried to use the computers in the business office and neither of the 2 they had worked. Someone told me they had been that way for at least 3 hours, since he had first tried to use them. I told various staff about it but the best I got for a response was that was something that "happened sometimes". Someone there might want to check to see if the problems have yet been resolved. This hotel is more economical than staying at a similar hotel downtown, and there is a nearby commuter train station (non-accessible). Getting hotels near these stations can be good money savers for big city visits, but there tend to not be many too close to the stations. The location on the Charles River is superlative, and a lot of the hotel property can be strolled along the shore. There is an adjacent historic park that is directly connected to the hotel that is also along the river. You get great river views from the restaurant too. read more

Look at the attached pictures while reading this. This hotel has serious problems. It is old and needs to be renovated. And it shows. The first thing I noticed was that the thermostat was falling off the wall when we walked into our room. The second thing was that the room safe was in a drawer and was not even secured. You could just pick it up and walk out. Then I opened the curtains and saw a bunch of dead birds on the ledge outside our window. Disgusting. And the window was filthy with bird crap on it. There are no streaming services available on their in room TV. And I had to call to get shampoo for the shower as it was empty. Horrible experience. read more

Was in town on business and stayed here in Newton. This hotel is about 25 minutes from Logan. The check-in process was smooth, the attendant recognized my status and thanked me. That was nice because it's hit or miss with many Marriott properties. My room overlooked the lake. The hotel is a bit dated but everything was clean, I had no issues. Housekeeping was very nice. The concierge lounge was nice and the attendant was wonderful. There is a mini Starbucks inside the hotel. The restaurant was good for breakfast. I did not try dinner. There are no restaurants in walking distance but there are several restaurants within 10 minutes of the hotel I found. All in all, I would stay here again read more

I really don't like staying at hotels, but this was a business trip. I really enjoyed the staying at this hotel, it was really nice and very comfortable. One of my biggest complaints on other hotels are always noisy, but during my stay it was not bad. Their food was ok. This is a pretty nice hotel overall. It is in good proximity to I-95 and Newton Wellesley hospital, and is secluded which makes it relaxing. The rooms are clean and the staff is very nice. The mini fridge in the room didn't have a freezer though. My only complaint is the parking lot, which is pretty confusing to get out of. I was trying to leave one night and the machine couldn't read my parking ticket, causing an accumulation of cars to pile up behind me. It was embarrassing and I was stuck for about 15 minutes. Luckily after I pressed the "call for help" button, they kindly opened the gate for me and I was able to get out. read more

My parents and I stayed here when they came to visit and be with me when I had stomach surgery. We enjoyed our stay here, the room isn't anything special but we loved the outdoor courtyard areas, especially the view of the Charles River Boathouse! Great proximity to the hospital and ample space for me to rest and recover, especially to walk around and get moving after. Taking off a star for parking as it was a bit difficult to figure out how to get in and out. Overall, great stay and I'd come here again and recommend it to those in the area. read more

This place is in need of serious renovations... Been here for a few hours and so far the bathroom tub doesn't drain, the fridge is broken and besides that it doesn't even shut, balcony door doesn't shut unless tightly locked and there is some type of pop up ball room blasting music outside of our balcony and also the room phone is broken. Marriott really is depriving this location. I stayed here 15 years ago and it was great but it's like nothing has been upgraded since. read more

I'm a little shocked at the overall rating for this pace given my experience and the rating other patrons have given this location. It is an older location and it shows, but that doesn't mean the property is bad at all. I received nothing but exquisite service from the staff here and quality across the board. I actually can't wait to come back here and stay again. It is on the pricier side, but they make up for it in the cleanliness of the rooms, amenities and service. They also have a fantastic breakfast buffet that reminds me of how hotels used to serve breakfasts when I was younger. I wasn't disappointed with that one bit. read more

We stayed in this hotel in the past. This time I was bitten by bed bugs . We moved to different hotel after one night. They say they didn't find any bugs in the room. I have pictures of my bed bug bites on my left arm and shoulder. We aren't looking anything other than a clean hotel room. read more

We stayed at this hotel over the weekend. We attended a conference which was scheduled at this location. It is conveniently located off the highway which made it easy to get to. The room was very comfortable, the bed and pillows provided for a good night's sleep. I was able to use the workout facilities which provided me with a good workout on the road. In addition they also have a small pool for their guests which I did not use. The pool area looked very appealing. The hotel has a restaurant which is convenient. An added perk in staying at the hotel is that parking is free for hotel guest. read more

I've been here a few more times since my last review and wanted to add on to my previous experiences and provide an update. Still haven't been upgraded here when upgrades were available, which as I mentioned previously includes river views (less noise from the parking lot at the very least). The concierge lounge is typically open 5-9 for those eligible. I rarely use it to get a beer, but stopping in for a quick snack or bottle of water is appreciated. The bathrooms are still not kept up very well which includes minimal amenities and sometimes gross conditions, leading me to believe they aren't doing adequate cleans between stays. They won't let you order breakfast the night before for a specific time which is mind boggling to me... Should be table stakes for room service. Add to that their consistent lack of items on the menu, I rarely even try to eat here anymore. UPDATE: even better, called the following morning to order room service and was told "we don't offer room service in the morning" ... Uh what?! Their televisions are about as low quality as you can get and the lack of "smart" features in this day and age is unreal... Can't even login to your own Netflix. read more

The Marriott in Newton is not the newest and fanciest hotel, but they really do try harder--- and it matters! The staff' is friendly-- and they have had special treats in the lobby during the week between Christmas and New Years and hors d'oeuvres and Cider on New Year's Eve. I was here for three nights. Every day housekeeping took away my dirty towels, and did not bring new ones, with the result that on my last day, I had no towels with which to take a shower. I called down twice to have this rectified, and as I typed this, I have been waiting for over half an hour, which is about to make me late for a meeting. read more

My recent stay at the Marriott was wrought with complications, many of which I brought to the table, some that could have been avoided, and some because that is just life. I rushed a review based on an incident, and while I still stand by that review, an accurate measure of a human is how well they adapt to chaos and react when faced with adversity. I can say that Yara and Teisia (sp?) know how to handle themselves and customer service in the greatest adversity. I could not have had a more outrageous and justified reaction, and through the incident, they maintained their composure, using their poise to calm me down and help rectify the situation. And afterward, Daniel the Manager, went absolutely above and beyond, to make sure that I was ok. It was apparent he cared about what happened and how it happened, but also to make sure it can hopefully never happen again. He gave me a long-distance shoulder to cry on and get the last of the angst from that day away. I appreciate both gestures. While the incident will tarnish that day, I have new memories to memorialize my mother. I know that if I were to ever return to the Marriott, the situation would never happen again. We stayed at this Marriot a couple weeks ago. First, I had requested a room with a balcony view. We got all the way upstairs and there was no balcony view so we had to go back down to reception for them to give us a new room. We get into the new room and it was decent until we were going to bed and saw the sheets. At that point we were too tired to call down again to have them fix it, so we removed the dirty sheets and slept with 'clean' ones, which I am not confident they were clean either. I had to check out in a rush (we were visiting family at the hospital) but when I had a chance I emailed their guest relations. I have emailed twice with my concerns and received no follow ups, which is why I am now posting on here. Since they are not able and/or willing to respond, I feel like other people should be aware. read more

Way back in the day, the Newton Marriott was "the place" for events; everyone wanted to have a family reunion, wedding, graduation or even a business meeting here. Maybe the guestrooms have been renovated in the last couple of years, but I was here yesterday for a meeting and couldn't believe how shabby it looked. All but two of the light fixtures in the room had one light bulb burnt out (fixtures had two bulbs, so with one out it is really noticeable... and should be to housekeeping, engineering and the sales department!!) and the ladies room in the lobby had barely-warm water and needs a renovation ASAP. It went downhill. 2 years ago my husband and I went here and it was nice and clean. It was in the midst of the pandemic where everything was shut down (no vaccines were happening, etc). Back then it wasn't busy, so I assume they had time to properly care for the room. This time around the hotel had a lot of people in it and seems to be back in full swing, the quality had gone down significantly. Free parking at a Marriott !! Alert the media ! We had a great weekend here. Our room on the seventh floor was pretty big, with a desk/workstation, a fridge, a nice seating area with an L-Shaped Ottoman, a super comfy bed, pretty good free WIFI, a huge flat-screen on the wall, electrical outlets all over the place, great air conditioning, and a big modern bathroom. The Riverbend Restaurant on the lobby level was very good and offered an excellent buffet breakfast. It's very convenient to find, pretty much in the shadows of a Mass Pike exit, and is minutes from Boston College, Newton and restaurant row in Waltham. It cost us about $185 a night after taxes. read more

If I could give a zero rating, I would. I stayed at this hotel last weekend, and it was one of the worst hotel experiences ever. Their customer service was unwelcoming, unprofessional, and racist! There are so many complaints, I can only name a few: The rooms were not clean at all. My tub was stained and disgusting. My colleague had a rat in her room. Another colleague of mine had to have her room changed twice because there were food crumbs all over her carpet, like someone smeared a muffin and left it. Even the rooms she moved to were even worse than the previous. I witnessed the front attendant snatch a key card out of my friends hand, then proceed to ignore her and walk away. My friend is contacting corporate HQS with that incident. This was not "Marriott Level" quality. If someone from Marriott is reading this, they need to shut this place down and turn it into a "Red Roof" Inn motel or something. I will never stay here again, and I highly recommend no one else stays here. read more

Old dated hotel with very poor Wi-Fi service. Stay was 3 nights. Saw a mouse run through the on-site restaurant, experienced bed bug bites. More significant maintenance crew trying to get into a locked guest room next to mine to assist the guest with something. We're hammering, drilling and making lots of noise from 9 pm to 1 am with no regard for adjacent guests. Then started again at 5 am in the morning. When I spoke to the front desk they had no solution for me except stating I could check out at 1 am and leave the hotel instead of asking their engineer team to stop working during quiet hours. Extremely poor customer service to resolve. I'm a frequent traveler and will not stay here in the future and likely will avoid the Marriott brand. read more

The lobby is quite spacious and love the modern decor. Totally an A+ for the Infused Water with fruits which I didn't get to sip =( We get a number to put in our car for parking in the hotel. The hotel is on the hill so we had to go down to the second floor where our room is located. Our room was literally a few seconds from the entrance to the pool and fitness center which was stock with hot/cold towels and my friends mentioned there were fruits. Wow the bathroom was indeed small yo but a huge mirror where us three girls couldn't squeeze in to do our hair and makeup lol elbows on elbows. The beds were comfy as I shared with my bestie and her sissy gets the other bed to herself hehe. We had an okay view to the lake as our window didn't have a balcony as the others were facing towards the lake. This is the second year our family has stayed at the Boston Marriot Newton and we were all 18 of us very pleased. All the staff were pleasant accommodating and helpful. The Riverbend Restaurant is excellent . We had several meals here from breakfast to lunch and dinner. Failed to get the name of the most helpful staff person who remembered specifics in ordering every day for the 5 days we were there! There were 5 , 4-11 year olds in our party. They loved the pool and started a conga line in the Lobby! The hotel allowed special accommodations in a corner of the lobby one night which we were very happy and thankful for . Very close location to downtown Boston . A bit of a hidden gem I would say. We will be back next year after the holidays for another family reunion with even more family members if we are lucky! read more

Wow! Just so bad! Usually I am just happy with a clean bed and warm shower, but I am truly shocked at how run down this Marriot is. The shower was not working correctly, toilet roll holder coming off the wall, etc... but the real problem is that the walls are not insulated for sound on the hallway. We came to visit friends in Wellesley and enjoy some time in Boston. After a very busy day in the city we came back to enjoy a good night's rest. Between the hours of 8:30-11pm there was a large crowd of parents drinking in the lobby while their children ran unsupervised up and down the hallways. Had the walls been insulated well, it would not have bothered us, but every word could be heard through the doors. The kids yelling and running up and down the hallway prevented sleep. We waited for a while expecting it to calm down, but had to call the front desk and ask them to intervene. We called once, they assured they would talk to the parents, then called again, 15-20 minutes later, and were assured again they would handle the situation. Finally I had to get out of bed and get dressed in order to go to the front desk. There were 3 people at the desk, doing absolutely nothing while this large group of parents were hanging out drinking and not supervising their children. After explaining my displeasure to the people at the desk, they appeared to take me seriously again assured me they would deal with it. After this it finally began to quiet down. There was more noise as the night went on, but we gave up at this point. Needless to say, it was a bad experience. There is no reason that staff should have had to be alerted three times to deal with this situation. We will never stay at this hotel again. I was told I would receive a refund for this night, and I will update this review accordingly to show whether they followed through. read more

What a beautiful hotel. Our room was quite nice. The beds were very comfortable. Amenities included a gorgeous view of the " Charles". They even managed to have a swan swim by in the morning. The room came with coffee and a mini fridge all hidden in a wooden cabinet. Very nice. The shower had a waterfall head and the sink and fixtures were quite modern. The only complaint I had was the bathroom door. It was a sliding door made of heavy wood. It was difficult to open and close. I had some difficulty opening it coming out of the bathroom. When I travel to Boston now I tend to look to see if this hotel is available. Yes it's still a few miles to drive downtown or to one of the other locations that I need to get to but it's an easy on/off to the highway, but more importantly I find the front desk and support staff all to be very helpful. Is it the newest most modern Hotel - no. But I'm always happy and satisfied with the service the quality of the food and the customer service. Can you need to make investment in the property which is good. I enjoy walking around the grounds and in the neighborhood. I look forward to my next visit. I especially like the rooms on the second floor so I can have the balcony enjoying a little fresh air and a view of the river. read more

Not the Marriott you're used too. It's kinda like spending the night at your grandparents house. It's clean & safe, but it's an old house with a weird layout and you can never figure exactly what that smell is or where it's coming from. Just as soon as you arrive and say your hellos, you begin looking forward to leaving and going home. I wouldn't put this hotel on par with what you would expect from a Marriott property. Maybe more like one their older Residence Inn Properties. For the price ($300-$350/night plus daily parking) this is a terrible value. To be fair: I hated my room the second I walked in, but never asked the hotel staff for something different. I was more excited for the reasons that brought me to Boston this time around. read more

The staff have been excellent both in the hotel and dining/bar area. The rooms and the entire are clean and seem relatively recently redecorated. The mussels were really outstanding last night. The evening in the bar was great because the staff were excellent. So, why three stars? The people who designed the building must not have done it before. Hard to believe for Marriott. The bathroom is so small a large person or elderly person can't get past the toilet to turn on the shower. So you need to have the water pouring on you as you try to figure out which direction is hot. Once you are in there you don't fit. I don't fit and I am not a large man. The grab bars are in the way so you can't stand there. The ceiling in the bathroom is very low but I am not claustrophobic. There is no place for a towel near the shower. This set of issues is built into the building. Do not sure what they can do. The bed is excellent. The room nice with a good view. The room rate was fair. I would stay again. One final negative is the length of the Hotel. It really is a long way to some of the rooms. read more

Marriott Boston-Newton is ablast to the 70's. Nothing updated paneling and old light fixtures. My first stay at a Marriott and I will never be going back. I thought Marriott Hotels were up scale and nice. This was completely the opposite. Room was stinky like a motel that was sprayed with stuff to cover up other smells. Mattress was lumpy, carpet was worn out and the dark woor paneling from the60'/?70's made the room dark and the chairs were old and used looking but since they were fromt hr 70''s that is no suprise. Extemely disappointed. Too expensiive for this and should be more like $89 a night. No water in room. For dining it was a fake upscale. I could smell other peoples dinners like bad fish. The mnue was an attempt to be upscale but there was no normal food like grilled chicken sandwhich which I asked for. I don;t like to bash but for the first time at a Marriott I coul dnot have been more disappointed and now definitley not try another Marriott. Stay ar a holiday inn express, Day's inn, or other place. They are better than this hotel. read more
