    Back Flexibility

This community has been so supportive and I love learning from all the instructors. Pole fitness in general is a great way to have more agency over your body and feel safer in it. All the instructors are great! I've been consistently going to Claudia's split clinics and any of Von and Gabby's classes. I recommend taking classes with different instructors because they're all wonderful and helped me realize how strong and flexible I can be.

This is gonna be a long review, but I gotta be honest with you, Yelp, I was sketched out when I first walked in here. So why the 4-star review? Well...read on (or if you rather not, there's TL;DR at the end). As burgeoning pole practicer from Denver who's in Boston for the summer, I was eager to find a studio in Beantown to maintain my practice. The non-descript door (see photo) of the auto-body shop turned pole studio located in an un-lit small alley-like road was a big red flag for me. I biked there from Cambridge and honestly wasn't able to find it until a woman and her S.O. came driving up and unlocked the door. To whom I sheepishly asked, "Er...is this the pole studio?" "Yes, yes! Come in!" She said. Fifteen minutes before class and I'm the only one there. The couple (the woman was the owner I found out later) walked in and her S.O. (male) went to the upstairs ex-office that overlooked the studio...another red flag. In my mind I'm thinking, "Is he gonna be able to watch us from up there???" The studio itself was...worn. The laminate flooring had come apart in some areas and were patched up with masking tape. The bathroom had a shower in it (ok...). The lighting was dismal, but I guess it made for a kind of sexy (strip club?) vibe. The yoga mats available to clients were very used, but at least they're free to use (my Denver studio charges $5 every time you forget you mat). On the plus side, the poles are VERY TALL, so advanced pole dancers can get really high! PRO TIP: There are bottles of iso-propyl alcohol & towels for your use to wipe down your pole and mat on the far wall (same wall as the bathroom). As it got closer to the scheduled class time, more women started filing in and DAMN, you Boston ladies are some beautiful people *wink*. Not to mention strong and sexy to be taking a pole dancing class! I started to relax a bit. As class started, Stacy (instructor/owner) proved to be a very able and wonderful teacher. I liked her style, emphasizing and working on technique and strength, rather than pack the class full of spins and moves. We spent a good amount of time warming up, working on a "key move" and spins, and then abs. I bought a 10 class pass for Boston Pole Fitness via Groupon and I was afraid I was going to have to ask Groupon for a refund, but I'm glad I stuck through the class! I'm looking forward to getting to know my classmates and the pole community in Boston! SIDE NOTE: The instructor/owner told me that she didn't put a sign on the door (as they just recently moved to this location) because their other studio experienced peeping Toms (ugh...ew) so she didn't want to advertise. Fair enough, I thought, considering they are in close proximity to a college campus. Oh, I forgot to mention, the S.O.? He's Stacy's fiance and the windows overlooking the studio were closed the entire time class was in session. Whew. TL;DR Was really sketched out at first by the location, but the class and instructor/owner turned out to be great!

Finally! I've been waiting for a pole dancing studio like Boston Pole Fitness to open in this city for several years now. I took pole dancing classes several years ago, but had not had any instruction in over 2 years until Stacy opened her studio. This is EXACTLY what I have always wanted. It's the best pole dancing workout I've gotten in Boston and it focuses more on the athletic, the pole tricks, et al. Stacy and Wendy are great instructors. Unbelievably talented. They really know their stuff and you definitely get one-on-one instruction. They make sure you're warmed up, that you learn proper form and alignment, and that you do both sides. When I was doing pole dancing workouts before, I never learned my left side. Up until now, I did not think I had enough coordination to do it but guess what? I totally can! Another big plus is class and studio size. Located on the first floor of Gold's Gym on Landsdowne, the space is an excellent size and they make sure the number of poles = number of girls. When you have to share, you just don't learn as well. Also -- the class length. Classes are 1:15. I've always felt an hour is just too short. This might just be personal preference, but if you've ever take a pole class, you might agree. When I leave, my butt has been thoroughly whipped and it is awesome. If you've ever been curious about pole dancing as a workout, you have to try a class at Boston Pole Fitness.

I love this place! I recommend for anyone that is looking for a pole studio. When i attended this studio for the first time i was a bit worried of what to expect, but the instructor was great and i been attending pole class here every since. Pole looks easy, but it sure is a workout. Seriously... Try it out you will not regret it.

A Life-Changing Dance Journey with Amy Baker…read more My girlfriend and I started our ballroom dance journey with Amy Baker at Super Shag Dance Studio in Charlestown, Mass., as a Christmas gift--a small package of five initial lessons. Honestly, we went in thinking it would be a fun, temporary activity, but we were completely wrong! We enjoyed those first few classes so much that we immediately signed up for more. Now, three years later, we are still going strong with our weekly lessons, and we couldn't be happier. Amy is the heart of our continued passion for dance. She is incredibly energetic, always bringing a genuine happiness and positive vibe into the studio that is truly infectious. More importantly, she is exceptionally kind and patient. Whether we are struggling to nail a new step or just having an off day, Amy approaches every moment with encouragement and clear, patient instruction. Our weekly lesson with Amy is now a highlight we look forward to every week. We've not only gained confidence on the dance floor but have also found a wonderful person who genuinely cares. This isn't just our opinion, either; I've personally referred several wedding couples to her, and every single one has come back raving about the exact same qualities: her energy, kindness, and patience. I can easily say that Amy is not just our phenomenal dance teacher, but she has become a dear friend. If you are considering ballroom dancing, whether as a gift or a serious new hobby, look no further than Amy Baker--she's the best!

So, whether you're a wedding couple seeking a unique routine, someone interested in improving your social dancing skills, or someone eager to explore ballroom, rhythm, and salsa, Amy Baker is a talented, demanding, yet delightful instructor. If you're a woman seeking advanced instruction and interested in competing, Chris Johnston has been teaching ProAm champions for decades. I am a ProAm competitor, and I am fortunate to have Amy Baker as my instructor and partner, but I also take regular technique lessons from Chris Johnston.
