I live in the Town of Natick, MA which had a "Solarize" program through the Massachusetts Clean Energy Council. The program provided significant savings opportunities that increased as more participants in town signed on to the program. In early May of 2016 they had a kick off meeting where potential participants had the opportunity to meet the chosen installation company, Boston Solar. Along with Boston Solar were members of the "Solarize Natick" committee and representatives from the Mass CEC. The program was intriguing so I signed up for a no cost evaluation of my home. Tom C. came out and answered the myriad of questions that I had, explained the financing (which had a number of moving parts) and arranged for an evaluation of our property. After the proposal was prepared I had many more questions that Tom C. patiently answered and if he couldn't answer them immediately he got back to me in short order. The original proposal called for a 22 panel Sunpower 7.4 kW system that after much discernment we decided to go with. We chose the Sunpower system because it offered the highest output with the longest, most comprehensive guarantee. About 2 weeks after signing up we received a call from Tom indicating that with a little creativity they were able to add 6 more panels to our roof to make our system a total of 9.7 kW which we agreed to. From there it was like watching a fine watch work as each department or state/municipal organization worked together to get our project designed, permitted, financed and scheduled. Our panels were set to go up in early October when I had a health issue that put me in the hospital. A quick call to the team at Boston Solar and the date was postponed with the assurance that our system would be completed and commissioned in time to meet all of the milestones built into the financing. The onsite team arrived around 8 am on the appointed day and the plans for our installation gone over with me in detail. The team was neat, efficient and safety minded as they installed our 28 panel Sunpower system. What they promised would take two days was completed in one and the results looked spectacular. A few weeks later our system was inspected, approved and commissioned. We were generating our own electricity and I was very excited. Boston Solar sent out a representative to go over the system with me and assure that I understood how the measurement tools operated and how to read them. We have been generating for 2 months now and even though we are in the darkest months of the year are starting to see significant savings on our bill. With all of the financial incentives and electricity savings I estimate that our system will have paid for itself in roughly 5 years. Aside from the purchase of our home and some major renovations our solar panel system is the most expensive thing we have ever purchased. With all of the complexities in the financial arrangements it is by far the most complex purchase we have ever completed. At each step, with each milestone in the process, Tom C and the team at Boston Solar were there to guide us, build our system and reassure us along the way. I was referred to Boston Solar by my t-shirt. We had been seriously considering solar and had a few interviews with companies and I just didn't have a good feeling from them. Then I noticed that Boston Solar was a sponsor for a 5K race I ran in my small home town and figured if they cared enough to sponsor our tiny charity race then I should do some research and give them a call. The reviews were good and we set up a meeting with their solar consultant. We met over Zoom due to the pandemic and it was fantastic. I hope they continue the Zoom option because it was a lot more low pressure than the in person meetings. Rick was our consultant and it didn't feel like a sales pitch at all. It was all about problem solving. He had a plot of our house ready to go and put together a rough outline of how everything would look, went over the cost, the ROI, the incentives, and so on. Everything that we went over in terms of cost and array size lined up with the research that we had done on Project Sunroof and meeting with other companies so that was reassuring. We knew we wanted solar but we wanted to find the right company to do the work. I think the tipping point for us was the fact that Boston Solar does everything in house, they have no subcontractors and everyone you work with is employed directly by Boston Solar. Many of the other companies use subcontractors and I was concerned I might have the "lowest bidder" putting holes through my roof. Once we signed the contract we were assigned a coordinator Olivia who guided us through the process and who answered our emails and questions often within the hour. The installation took 2 days with supports/conduit being run on day 1 and the panels installed on day 2. I spoke with the foreman and the electrician and they were really knowledgeable and answered my questions about future projects. We may want to add an electric car charger and more panels someday in the future. They also worked with us to make a change to the plan as once they were on site they saw a better way to run the equipment than originally planned. I also appreciated how Boston Solar treated their team. The installation was in the summer and it was a hot day on a hotter roof and I noted that they were cycling people out, giving breaks, and drinking lots of water. It's the right thing to do for people's health and beneficial to the homeowner, if you are tired you are more likely to make mistakes. The day after installation we had torrential rains which was a good test as we observed zero leaks to the roof. The project passed inspection without issue, national grid swapped out meter, and we just turned the system on and are producing power. We are really happy with our decision to install a solar array. It will save us a significant amount of money long term while helping our community by taking demand off the grid and generating renewable energy. Boston Solar was specifically recommended to us last year by a leasing-only competitor's rep after we explained we were only interested in owning. I had already gotten a quote the previous year from what is now Direct Energy Solar (was Astrum) and was essentially happy with that, but based on the recommendation and wanting a competitive quote for comparison I gave Boston Solar a call. Raymond B. came over and was quite helpful and willing to go through all the details, which was good since we had been through it a couple of times and were more educated about it, so we had a better idea of what questions to ask. Ray was able to match us up with a better, smaller and more efficient panel that allowed us to increase our power capacity by fitting more and better panels onto our available roof area. There was discussion about having one of our favorite trees cut down (which is what a solar leasing company would insist on) but since I'm buying the whole thing it's not their call. A bit of reasonable pruning and we will have a good compromise between a clear view for all of the panels to the sun for most of the year and shade on other un-paneled parts of the roof which keeps the heat down in the summer. We got called to schedule installation about a month or more ahead of the expected time, which was great because that could mean a month more on solar power! Everyone I spoke to or worked with at Boston Solar were quite helpful and good at what they did. We did have to get a new roof as ours was really showing its' age and you want to have that in good shape before putting anything on top of it. The installation crew was super and did a great job installing the mounting racks and panels. We wanted to keep roof external elements to a reasonable minimum and they did a good job running the electrical conduit through our attic spaces. Most of the electrical boxes are in a compact group outside with the electric meter, with just the monitoring station box inside which is what we preferred. Just waiting for the final meter swap and permission from Eversource to switch it on and start saving and cutting back on the carbon footprint! I would like to take a moment to provide my thoughts about working with The Boston Solar Company. I had been looking at solar for quite a while and found some of the facts were almost 'too good to be true'.... Boston Solar happened to create a joint opportunity for members of my credit union, Merrimack Valley Federal Credit Union, which gave the idea of 'going solar' much more substance to me. Before contacting them, I did my research and found them to have a very positive reputation all over the web. Other companies that I investigated were not of the same caliber. In June, I met with the sales rep at Boston Solar, who proved to be knowledgeable, easy to communicate with, and in hindsight, accurate about what to expect throughout the process.. Without much effort, he sold me on 'going solar'. My credit union financed my installation. Boston Solar handled everything - the paperwork, scheduling, permits, etc....I just needed to provide money and be there during the installation. The installation crew was amazing...working in an attic on two of the hottest days in the summer?!? Wow!!! All I can say about them is that they were considerate, responsible, experienced and incredibly hard working... From first meeting through installation - everyone was all great. For the most part, they were proactive in their communication with me....providing me updates and timelines for the other pieces to this complex puzzle - such as Home Energy Audits, Rebates, Electrical and Building inspectors, and the electric company replacing my meter. There were some minor 'bumps' along the way - all due to the third party aspects of the installation (Home Energy audit company, Electric company, etc...) but with such a complicated orchestration of moving parts, there is bound to be some issues that crop up. How they are handled is what counts in my book. In today's day and age where service is so completely lacking in most businesses, it was refreshing to work with a company who stepped up and worked effortlessly to resolve those issues so that they really didn't affect me....even when they were not their issues to fix. If I could give them more stars, I would. If you are considering solar, Boston Solar is the only way to go. read more

We have wanted solar for a long time, and looked at a number of companies over the last few years, but we were less than impressed. We finally found Boston Solar at the Home Show, and we are so happy with our whole experience. It started with the appointment with Josh from sales. He was very professional, knowledgable, and thorough explaining what he thought the system would produce for our setup, what he thought it might cost, and how we could take advantage of tax credits and options to pay with cash or special solar financing. He returned a few weeks later with a very complete and clear proposal, and we signed up the next day. The coordination team leading up to and during the install was also great. There is a lot of process involved to work with Eversource, the local building department, and the finance company, and Boston Solar took care of all of this for us. The installation was neat and also very professional--we had a great team working on that. Once the system was installed, the coordination team stayed in touch with us while they completed all of the back-of-the-house work to get the town inspector permit approval and for Eversource to install the new meter. The system has been on for a week now, and today we completed our final review of everything with Boston Solar. They explained how the system works now that it's in, walked us through the details in the house, and reviewed the app that can be used to show us how the system is running and how much energy we are producing and consuming. We are already producing much more than we are consuming. We can't wait to get our first electric bill and our first check from the SMART program! We have a second home that had panels when purchased. When we discovered a leak in the roof this Spring (squirrels got under one of the panels and chewed through the shingles and tar paper), Boston Solar removed the panels for the roofers and reinstalled them after the new roof was installed at a fair price. After we discovered the culprit of the leak, we added critter guard at their suggestion. We highly recommend paying the added price for the critter guard. read more

Dan Sacco was our sales rep, and he was absolutely top notch. Be sure you ask for Dan when first starting with Boston Solar. There were a few hiccups after signing our contract in transitioning from sales to our installer rep, but Dan picked up the slack and kept the ball rolling for us, even though I'm sure it wasn't his job to do so. Our installer rep eventually did start firing on all cylinders, and after that, our experience was 99% great. I don't say 100% because the Boston Solar tech for the final town inspection showed up 30 minutes earlier than our appointment and had done the town inspection without me. Fortunately, that tech was very patient and professional and still took the time to go over everything that came up during the inspection and answered all of my non-relevant questions, so he made up for it. The actual solar install team was absolutely great. I admit that our house's quirks made the install challenging for them, but they powered through it and remained *way* more efficient and professional than any of the other workers we had on our house renovations. Workers who actually ask you how you want things and clean up after themselves? I'd never seen that until Boston Solar came. About a month after the system went live, the system stopped producing power, and our install rep Sana caught it within hours and fixed the system remotely (there was a firmware upgrade that didn't go through as planned). I was really impressed with how quickly she was on top of it. All in all, I'd give Boston Solar 4.8 / 5 stars, which rounds up to 5 here on yelp. We've been producing power for over half a year, and I'm still just as happy as ever that I chose Boston Solar. read more

After being told by two companies that our roof provides insufficient southern exposure for a solar installation by checking Google Maps, I had given up on rooftop solar. However, Boston Solar's approach was different. They sent someone out to my house to assess the situation and put devices on my roof to do a quantitative evaluation of production potential. Soon thereafter, I received a written proposal that described the 8 kW system design (with annual production guarantee table), local and federal incentives, a financing plan, and cash flow analysis. John Sacco laid out the process in very clear terms, which was expertly managed by Sana Jameel. All interactions with the city and utility company were handled by Boston Solar, and Boston Solar communicated with me every step of the way to make sure I knew what was happening, and worked with my schedule for those times that I needed to be physically present. The project went very smoothly, from initial consultation to Authorization to Operate taking about 3 months. I would highly recommend Boston Solar, even if you have been told that your home is not suitable for solar. On my first full day of solar production in October, I generated significantly more electricity than I used, and it was a delight to see my meter run backwards. read more

Boston Solar showed great professionalism from the saleman Tom Chabot to the installers. The installation of the panels was completed in a timely manner with impressive craftsmenship making sure that all connections and wiring was completed to perfection. Since the installation of the hardware and wiring of the system into the electrical panel I have had multiple professionals from electricians to plumbers ask what company installed our solar. The thing that always catches everyones eye is how perfectly all the wiring was completed going above and beyond what they have seen with other solar company installations. The panels themselves are completely black and unnoticable to most visitors until we point it out, no noticable wires/conections from any street view and they ran the elctrical conduit tubing in a way that is very inconspicuous. We have been recieving our checks quarterly for electricity sent back to the power company as well as enjoying tiny electric bills when we do produce power less due to weather/season. Our house is over 2000sq. ft, and no gas/propane/city water/sewer, so that means everything is electric and we went from over $300 to well under $100 a month. If I had to do it again I was do it exactley the same, purchase dont lease. read more

I did not have a perfect experience with Boston Solar, not even close, and yet there is STILL no other company I would rather recommend to anyone considering solar than Boston Solar. They are not just one of the best, if not THE best, solar company out there, but I think they are one of the best COMPANIES, period. I've never experienced such care and attention to making sure I was fully informed at every step of the process, and that any and all problems were completely and thoroughly resolved, if not the same day, by the very next day. Projects of this size can rarely be executed perfectly - there is almost always a hiccup or two. But the best companies care deeply about their customers' satisfaction and take full ownership of any issues that come up, then work diligently and quickly to resolve them with as little disruption as possible to the project and the customer. This describes Boston Solar perfectly. Not only do they offer an excellent product and a compelling financial case (even to clients with a less-than-perfect site in terms of roof angle/slope, partial shading, etc), but they are really just a great group of professionals that is 100% focused on doing right by their customers. I've been indecisive about solar for a while now and after a poor experience with a sale rep from another solar company I decided to do some research online to find the best Solar Company out there. Boston Solar has lived up to their reputation and I felt secure in my choices during the entire process. Instead of trying to desperately sale me a product they sat down and we talked about my needs and how to best take advantage of the great programs and incentives that exist. They helped me find a loan through different banks and they helped me find a contractor to redo my roof, always having the best quote I could get. Their workers came and installed the panels in one morning working hard to make the power lines as inconspicuous as possible. The panels themselves are almost completely black, without those ugly lined squares you often see, and near invisible on my black shingles roof. Every time I had a question, a worry or a doubt at any point in the process I felt like I could talk to someone and always felt free to "pull out the plug" if needed. Most people think Solar is "too good to be true" or a "scam". Well fact is in Mass, it works and I now spends less buying those panels that I was paying my electric bill. read more

I had been researching solar panels for 2 years and I finally decided to go with Boston Solar and I am so happy I did. The bottom line is I want to save money. I have had 2 utility bills since they were fired up. My first bill was down $249 from last year and my next one was down $294. I have also already earned 5 SRECS since the turn on date of 5/21/16. This amounts to about $1350 (based on around $270 per SREC). I opted to own the panels so I would get the SRECs and get the 30% federal tax credit. I have 34 panels. Everybody was top notch at Boston Solar. Ray the sales guy was extremely knowledgeable unlike the other companies I had dealt with who never mentioned the benefits of ownership over leasing. I can't remember names, but the crew who installed were great and neat as a pin. I found one shiny bolt under a pile of weeds when I was planting a month later and that was it. The guy who showed me how to turn them on and monitor them was great and many thanks to the top notch electrician who removed a dead mouse for me from my attic stairs. He quickly got the town inspector to approve the jobs and the paper work back to the utility company so i could turn them on. I highly recommend Boston Solar. read more

After contemplating solar for years I finally made the plunge and had a system installed this spring. After speaking with several companies, I elected to go with Boston Solar and could not be happier with my choice. Bill was absolutely fantastic. He spent hours with me reviewing our home''s energy needs, not only explaining the benefits of solar but other ways we could reduce our power usage to further save on our electricity costs. The install was a breeze. The gentlemen were professional, showed up each day on time (really appreciated with my work and kid''s schedules!) and they did a great job cleaning up the yard afterwards. After install, Tom Sheridan spent more than an hour reviewing the system''s components, warrantees, SREC plan and getting us online. I can also comment on post install service as one of the panels was not producing power after activation. Boston Solar discovered this at the time of Tom''s visit and sent a service tech out within 48 hours to rectify the issue. Tremendous! The system has been up and running for a month now and we couldn''t be more pleased with our choice to have Boston Solar help us transition to solar power. read more

I cannot rave enough about Boston Solar. From the sales, to the service, to the installation, to the post installation service, everyone was great! They were all very transparent throughout the process letting me know the next steps. I had some delay, due entirely from my HOA, but Boston Solar was always in my corner. It felt great to feel like I had a team behind me. The sales team was great, they made I understood all the steps, which was very helpful since I knew nothing about solar before meeting with everyone. The free estimate was awesome and really informative. Joe walked me through the process, benefit, and savings. Then moving forward I felt like I had a team at my disposal, it was great, every question I had someone was there to answer. Mali and her support team were there for everything, even when I asked the same question 4 times. The installation team was also awesome! Friendly and efficient. Boston Solar proved to be a fantastic organization with fantastic people. Having experience with companies that provide field work, I understand the difficulties of putting the right people in customer facing roles. Every single person I worked with was A+ and if they didn't have an answer, they found it for me promptly. My system has been online for a couple weeks now and I'm floored by how seamless the transition was. Once we threw the lever, the meter started running backwards and we started feeding the grid. In general with regard to home solar power: I consider it like buying a car instead of leasing cars for your entire life. When you pay off a car, you ride for free. When you pay off your solar panels, you run the house for free. Paying electric bills is something you'll do your entire life. Solar gives you a chance to pay yourself instead . MA SRECs pay your loan payments and your balance sheet zeros out on a yearly basis. If your house gets good exposure, its a no brainer. Boston Solar = highly recommended! I highly recommend Boston Solar. Their solar consultant Tom Sacco is very knowledgeable, gave us six options of possible solar systems (he generated a couple of them when we asked him about other possible configurations). He also made the excellent recommendation to consider future power needs, such as an electric car. We were only considering air conditioning, but I followed his recommendation and got a system that produces quite a lot more energy than we need. I'm very pleased with the system and have decided to get a heat pump for both our air conditioning needs and to lower our winter heat bills. Sana Jameel did an excellent job of coordinating all the details that go into building and financing a solar system. After the system was up and running, Tom Sheridan came over and showed us how to monitor the system on our computer. Boston Solar also put us in touch with an excellent solar loan company (BlueWave) and told us how to apply for rebates and tax deductions from the state and the federal government. As a manufacturing quality engineer I did a significant amount of research on the pros and cons of solar power including if there would be a reasonable cost savings over my sky rocketing electric bill. I then compared Boston Solar to other solar companies and decided to buy a system through Boston Solar. From my initial meetings with Josh through our final installation the process could not have been easier thanks to Mali the project coordinator assigned to our project. Every detail was managed by them and we were kept in the look every step of the way. Our installation was performed in a day and a half and as I had specific requirements as to the system layout, the installers went over the plans before starting the job. I could not be more happy with how clean the install came out and the outstanding quality of the job. The best part is that from day one after flipping the system on I have not used any electricity off the grid. The entire process couldn't have gone better. From beginning to end, every person from Boston Solar was pleasant, informative, and always felt like I was their most important customer. We were hesitant to sign up, not knowing if the credits were as good as advertised but after running the numbers 1000 ways, I know it couldn't go wrong. We chose the LG black on black panels because they're on the front of the house and they virtually disappear on the black roof. Our neighbor didn't notice until after a month! I also appreciate the interactive app and website from SolarEdge to see the production real-time. Very cool overall. After the system was turned on, I noticed one panel wasn't producing and contacted Sana. She was able to see it on her end and sent the guys out right away. Unfortunately for them, it was 5 degrees outside, but they still got up on the roof and swapped out the bad optimizer. Is it worth it? Its clean energy at a cost next to nothing. After getting proposals from three of the large corporate solar companies, I found that they usually had the same proposal...lease the system from them and let them keep all the benefits. It wasn't until I spoke with Boston Solar that I found out about all the Massachusetts incentives that the big companies never mentioned...specifically, the Mass Solar Loan Program which provided 1 1/2% interest rate buy-down and income-base loan support (based upon household income). Being retired, we qualified for a 20% principle reduction. This made system ownership the most cost effective way to go. Everything about Boston Solar was tuned toward getting the best possible outcome for the customer, while charging a fair and reasonable price for the installation. The entire process, from initial sign-up, to installation, to project completion took a little over two months. They took care of everything and kept us informed every step of the way. This my 2nd solar install (my other property I used next step living which went out of business) so I am some what experienced at this....lol.... I double recommend Boston Solar. Joe Pallatroni came to the house and sat down with me and I told him I knew about solar and told him what I wanted to talk about AND THAT IS ALL WE TALKED ABOUT no sales pitch, no pressure, no BULL at all just the information I needed. Sana Jameel is awesome to work with she kept me informed 100% of the time and at every step. She answered my questions I had within hours of sending her an email and that is super rare. Solar Crew 1did a awesome job. Compared to my other property this install LOOKED AWESOME!!!! They were very polite and did everything we asked of them before they left (shut garage and lock the door when they left) because we did not stay while the work was being done on the house.
