From the very beginning SunBug Solar has been fantastic. I had 3 different Solar companies in mind, my picks were based on past reviews, value for your money and the amount of systems installed. I put the call out and SunBug was the first to respond within one day. Another called a week later and the third called 2 weeks later. Chris Miller from SunBug Solar called and we schedule the appointment for the evaluation. He came in the middle of March when we still had foot and half of snow but he managed to walk through the snow and take pictures of our house and roof line. A few days later we had 4 proposals sent to us. Based on your financial situation we had choices to make. We decided to get the 99% coverage with the second best panels being used. This choice was within our budget and based on their calculation should cover our electrical bill. Not only that but payback of this system should take about 5-6 years. Next, we were in contact with Andrea and Anna from the office. They basically held our hands and explained the step by step process from start to finish with timelines of when each step would be finished. We were told at the very beginning that we would have our system running in mid-June and they were dead on. During our time dealing with Andrea and Anna, we had several questions. Most questions were answered within a couple of hours via email but all questions were answered within 24 hours. The emails to us were very upbeat, you can tell they love what they do and they were excited for us. One time I had a question for Andrea, I received an automated "I'm on vacation response" but non the less, Andrea still responded within a few hours...I'm assuming while she was still on vacation. The installation; Kaleb and his crew showed up precisely when they said they would and finished the whole installment of 42 panels including all electrical work within the 3 days they said they would. I swear our place was left cleaner than when they arrived and both myself and my wife were very pleased with everything they had done. While I was there speaking with Kaleb, he took the time to explain the process of what they were doing. I felt comfortable enough to leave them be and do their work. Our town inspector came to inspect the work and made the comment that this was one of the cleanest installations that he has seen. Thanks to Patrick as well, Patrick came down from SunBug to inspect the electrical work before the town inspector came down. While waiting for the town inspector to arrive, Patrick was kind enough to explain to me what all the power junctions were for and showed me how the system works and what to expect. The town inspector arrived and the inspection went fine. The very next day the signed off paperwork from the inspection was sent to our Grid company for approval. Once the Grid company approves the paperwork they send someone to switch over the meter and at that point we are now officially generating electricity! We were told that the time for the Grid company to arrive could be up to 2 weeks, we were pleasantly surprised when they showed in 2 days. Finally, we now have Malcolm from SunBug interacting with us. Malcolm is responsible for setting up our website account so we can monitor the power generated by our panels. The website interface is real cool, I don't want to go into too much detail but if you are into monitoring your panels then the details that this Website interface provides you will please you. I did have one question for Malcolm which he did respond within a couple of hours with a detailed explanation. Overall this was a very smooth process with great communication made possible only by the fantastic SunBug crew that we had to work with and I have absolutely nothing negative to say. I solicited three bids to have solar panels installed on our house. SolarCity, SunBug and one other, whose name escapes me. I guess the name of the last one doesn't matter, since they never followed through beyond our initial contact. I quickly started to realize that home solar panels are a bit of a racket right now, with many large, national companies vying to install solar panels anywhere they can, mostly to harvest the federal and state tax credits, as well as power generated, and then offer the home owner "free" panels, and a modest discount on their electrical power for some set period of time. For example, SolarCity stated they could install 20 solar panels after looking at Google Earth images where part of roof is clearly obscured by trees. SunBug, by contrast, came to our house and spent an hour on our roof taking readings and measurements, and determined that 14 panels would be the maximum. I went with SunBug not because they were the lowest bidder, but because I had the greatest confidence that they would go a good job. A work colleague also strongly recommended them. SunBug was great, the whole staff were amazing. Everything happened exactly when and as they said it would. The electrical work was particularly amazing. The installation took two days. We turned the system on March 29th, 2015 in the middle of a snow shower. It started producing power immediately, even under those conditions, which really surprised me. We had been spending about $200-$250 a month for power. Our April electric bill was $60, and then under $20 for May-July. We learned to run "expensive" appliances during the day, like washer/dryer, dishwasher, etc, and I think that helps a lot. There is a three-month waiting period to sell SREC's, so we just got our first check, so basically have had free power since we turned the system on. The only other observation I would provide, is that it is much better to buy the panels and own them than to go with the "free" option. That way you own the power, you get the big tax credits, and they add to the value of your home should you ever decide to sell. read more

I love this company. They spent a lot of time with me and on the site during the design stage to make sure we got the most cost effective system size for our situation. We set up an install date that was a few months down the line. They stayed in touch with me during that period until the panels were delivered and ready to install. The office staff worked with me to complete and process all the paperwork regarding the various credits and energy buy back agreements . The service team was punctual, professional and very friendly. They did a great job and were very careful to clean up after each day and test all the components prior to completion. We had an issue with one of the boards on the inverter and rather than have me wait till one was shipped in from CA., they replaced my entire inverter within 2 days. They set up all the appointments with the local inspectors and utility company and had a representative here to meet them.. I had one minor issue with a section of "critter guard" around the panels and called them. They had someone her that afternoon!!!!! I spoke with 4 other companies, both large national companies and smaller local companies. With Sun Bug, I truly felt they were working to get me the best system for my needs and not just to sell me anything.. Everyone I have dealt with from Sun Bug from the design and sales team, office and support team and installation and service group have been fantastic. I would recommend this company to anyone looking for solar panels. They were knowledgeable, professional, friendly, and reasonably priced. My experience with SunBug Solar has been fantastic. As I write this, I am totaling up the rebates I am receiving--and I find that, including the tax rebates, I have received over 50% of the cost of my system in the first six months of having it... and this doesn't include further rebates in the form of selling back SRECs (which will accrue every year). First of all, I am very grateful for the chance to "go solar." It's something I believe in, and it's something that I feel offers great promise both to our region and to the global energy crisis. SunBug Solar made it possible for me to act on my beliefs, without costing me and arm and a leg. The initial contact was friendly and easy; the home visit was informative and low-keyed; my options were clearly laid out, and it was obvious that this company had done its research. They knew how to go about putting in solar panels, and how to help finance it. I wasn't disappointed. Throughout the whole application process, SunBug staff "held my hand" and walked me through the details. Later, once the system was being installed, they took care of all the details. These guys and the company as a whole are excellent! I put 24 panels on my roof in Milton this past fall and I can't wait to see my spring & summer electric bill disappear! I really wanted solar panels as I have a completely south facing roof with no shade. I first signed up with one of those large solar panel companies out of CA that you see at Home Depot & Lowe's, but I have a "rolled rubber roof" instead of shingles, which they would not work on. Then I researched local companies & found that Sunbug Solar's technicians had the highest level of training offered by the Made In USA solar panel manufacturers, as well as some great Reviews. So I called them, and the experience was better than I imagined. Andrea in particular, who's office is covered in pix of her grandkids, knows *everything* and was available essentially 24/7, ie nights, weekends, whenever, to answer all of my technical, permitting, installation, timeline, financing and rebate questions. She is a fountain of knowledge! The install team did a great job which went on-time as planned. After the system went live my Rep Mike Ozog came back to go over the final paperwork, especially explaining all the IRS Rebate Forms. This I *really* appreciated, as doing taxes is not my strength! We decided we wanted to install solar panels, but our first experiences in reaching out for quotes and assessments almost destroyed that interest. Opaque processes, sketchy information, far away people implying deals that were going to expire in minutes if you didn't decide. We almost quit. We kept wondering why this wasn't more like any other home improvement project, where you get competitive bids and choose who to work with based on what you decide is right for you. Then we found SunBug--well, honestly we heard their tag-line on NPR that one more time and thought "hey we haven't talked to them yet" (might as well plug NPR while I'm at it :)). Suddenly, everything became simple, straightforward and information rich. Every question answered, but also, the answers were simpler. Prices made sense. Huge added bonus for us that they were nearby and you got to actually meet the people you were considering working with. We decided in the busy season but the project was completed well within the estimated window. Several steps in installation went well and were done quickly, carefully and aesthetically. We liked every part of this team. They were great communicators and clearly very good at what they do. SunBug Solar was a pleasure to work with from start to finish. We love our solar panels and and I highly recommend SunBug as an installer. I love financial modeling and Dan Covey was more than happy to endure my endless array of questions and scenarios on how to optimize the return on investment of solar panels. My questions were always answered promptly, skillfully and with enthusiasm. By the time we decided on a PV system design and a financing plan, I was totally convinced that I was making optimal and informed decisions. The installation process went smoothly and quickly and SunBug did a great job of keeping me up-to-date on our project status. SunBug has excellent documents which clearly explain the installation process and our installation went exactly as planned. SunBug also does a great job of managing all of the paperwork associated with state and federal rebates, registration with NSTAR, and selling solar renewable energy credits. Sunbug recently did a full solar installation at my home with battery back-up. The Sunbug workers were tidy, friendly and polite. Their quote was competitive and far less of some obscure sales pitch. I had many, many questions as the process evolved. Everyone - from the engineers to the electricians, to the people in the home office - was wonderful about explaining the system and its parts to me, along with the SMART program and anything else I wanted to know. We are really pleased with our Sunbug system and right now we use clean energy, have a healthy credit with Eversource, and are receiving monthly checks from the SMART program. We'll apply for our tax credit when we file our taxes. We are on track to have the system pay for itself in seven years, as we were told by Sunbug. The system is amazing. I lived with solar before and it's great to be back, but with a much more efficient and high tech system. I highly recommend solar - and Sunbug - to anyone. It's well worth the cost and the sheer joy of knowing one has reduced their carbon footprint is beyond awesome. read more

Great experience, local, honest, knowledgeable company that will guide you through the entire process including financing recommendations ans well as tax savings. installers are pros and really work with the homeowner to make sure that my wife and I were comfortable with the location of the panels as well as all electrical lines. My wife looked at leasing from another company, then I looked into several other companies that I could lease from or purchase. We decided that although it was an initial expense for us on a tight budget, that the purchase would definitely be the best option. I had many questions in the beginning and its reassuring to know they are local and can come by to help. Mike was our sales rep and very knowledgeable and professional. I was installed and online since July 15, 2016 and have not paid an electric bill and gaining SREC's. Very excited about that as well. If you can do it, (in my opinion) purchasing is the way to go. Receiving our $12 electric bill reminded me that I had been meaning to write a review of SunBug. I have never written a review of a restaurant or other business, but I was inspired to review SunBug because the whole experience was exceptional. Each individual we had contact with--from the rep, to the office staff, to the installers--was professional, friendly, and helpful. No sales pressure here--as we experienced with another company we explored. Our rep, Chris, patiently explained a multitude of options. Once we decided to proceed, it was originally going to be about six months until installation. It turned out they had an opening earlier and squeezed us in. So we were up and running much faster than we'd expected. With the federal tax rebate, I was anxious about keeping track of receipts, and then it turned out they gave them all to us, printed out, in our final packet. What a nice touch. I can't think of another home-improvement experience I've had that has been easier or more pleasant. read more

The SBS team was fantastic. They were straightforward, professional, and 100% honest with me. I had some hard year-end deadlines and they were able to get my installed tremendously fast. In fact, the timelines were so tight that they said they'd 'try' but that that couldn't guarantee anything. (They could have lied and made a verbal promise to me in order to win my business, but they didn't make any promises and they acknowledged the risks of the project timeline upfront!) . In the end they were early on beating the deadline by almost 10 days. Wow. The workmen were clean and professional. Dan walked me through each step - even a post-installation commissioning step that oriented me to my new PV system and all of the paperwork I'd be given. The entire process was as smooth as any home construction project could be. I 100% recommend SBS and I'm extremely satisfied with their work at my house. I am very pleased with the service I got from SunBug. We contacted them after another company came door-to-door. I thought I should get another bid and explore options. SunBug was very informative, and encouraged me to consider other bids without any pressure. They explained the different approaches (companies that lease you panels and charge you for your electricity - not their approach) vs. companies that sell and install your panels so you can benefit from the tax breaks and solar credits (SunBug approach). I got quick responses to every question, a courteous and competent team at all stages - proposal, design, and installation. Excellent process with Sunbug. They analyzed my site and gave me a very competitive and detailed quote, along with various potential options. The install went well and the materials seem top notch. They use the Solar Edge inverter and panel control modules which allows each panel to work almost independently. When you have a shady site like mine this is important as not all panels need be in full sun at all times to generate electricity. The software monitoring is pretty cool. They also helped process all the paperwork necessary for the utility interconnect and MA SMART program. The longest part of the process was waiting for the utility paperwork to be processed. It was a couple of months from quote to install. If you are thinking of Solar I would not wait too long as the federal tax credit decreases a little every year. read more

SunBug installed my panels in September 2013, and I couldn't be happier! Their workmanship is top-notch, and their personnel is even better! Any questions I asked (and there were many), were answered to my satisfaction, and in a timely manner. I highly recommend them to everyone I talk to. We had our solar panels installed by SunBug. We have contacted multiple companies to compare products, prices and overall responsiveness. SunBug had best panels, great price and absolutely best service. They gave us very clear explanation of the process, their prices were fully transparent and reasonable, and they patiently answered every question we had. After we signed with SunBug, we've got project timelines - and they actually delivered on time! The entire installation took two days in the middle of New England February (!), the crew was very professional and accommodating, everything was left clean and neat. SunBug Solar were on time, on budget and very professional, they came to the house and reviewed all aspects of going solar (including the electricity savings, to the SREC process/savings, roof and attic inspection, the local town inspection process, the technology of solar panels, the installation, timeline, cost, tax savings and any geographical issues). I am glad I chose SunBug instead Astrum, which I looked at first. SunBug offered me a better ROI and was willing to listen to my desires for something that would fit in with my house and not stick out like a sore thumb. They cleaned up after the installation, and then came back to install a snow guard so I wouldn't get bombed with sliding snow. I was even more surprised when they came to fix something in the middle of a major snow storm. I was told that the weather did not bother them, but I think shoveling 10 inches of snow off of our walk to get to where they were working was well beyond my expectation. I recommend SunBug very highly. I just used them to install a 9 kW array on my roof, and the whole experience was very satisfying. I did a lot of research before contacting several installers, and SunBug was the only one who didn't try to tell me things I already knew or try to give me the hard sell. The install itself went very smoothly. I was able to do everything electronically (I signed my interconnect agreement while on the beach in Jamaica!), and used email to keep up with status. The installation was very professional, and looks fabulous! Summary: 1 - Get solar now (unless your house gets no sun at all), and 2 - Use SunBug. read more
