As I research his profile, I can tell right off the bat that Roy is the best. Whatever you do, DO NOT book an appointment with "Roy" he was very rude and very unprofessional. And DO NOT PAY BEFORE YOU GET A HAIRCUT EVER. Especially nowadays with everything moving towards being online. Thank god I didn't pay online but was going to pay with cash. Especially if you are new client. As a first timer here you'd expect them to treat you with respect and be very welcoming, right? Nope. Straight up nonchalant. Doesn't even introduce his name or nothing. Before I even got to his chair he had an attitude. Body langue is very easy to read and tell. Must've not had his morning coffee. As I try to explain the hairstyle I want his responses are just one worded and the way he even responds is with an attitude. Felt very rushed with him and even checked up on his attitude to make sure he was good. His response was "I'm just trying to cut your hair I got a busy schedule " after that walked up and left. Nobody in the right mind would spend their money at a place where your barber is a a**hole especially cutting YOUR HAIR and trying a new style. Just overall very unfriendly, rude, unwelcoming experience. I'd never support a business or spend my hard working money on a place where you do NOT feel welcomed. Ive had great experiences with other barbers in the past but will not be going back after this appointment. I booked with eddy and showed a picture with a low drop skin fade on the back and just a trim with some texture on the top. The top looked great but even after I specified that i needed the back to look great for a big event that night I left with a sharp jagged line. Not even CLOSE to a fade. Either he didn't listen or couldnt do it. I would much rather said hey fades arent my specialty but I can do this instead and I would have happily switched. I was luckily able to make a relatively last minute appointment -- I had to employ some spontaneity because I was a little nervous about trying a barbershop instead of a salon and didn't want to psyche myself out. But the folks here are amazing at creating a comfortable environment. As I walked in I was met with an interesting hipster tattooed friendly beard guy atmosphere, I waited only a few minutes for my cut to start which was great. everything went well and I was finished in 20-25 minutes. The cut came out great , the guy followed my directions and didn't seem rushed to get me out quickly. Not knowing the price ahead of time, I go to the cash register thinking it'll be 20-25$, for a simple non complicated cut, and to my dismay I am told 40$! I have paid less than 20$ each cut to my previous barber for years, also I hear super cuts down the street is 20$ as well. So to me this place is just overpriced at double the market rate for a cut, for that reason alone I probably wouldn't go back. read more

I've been cutting my hair here for a couple months now. The guys all cut hair really well however I'm just so frustrated with how they manage the barbershop. They do not take appointments and so I always end up just saying first available barber to get out as soon as possible. I usually wait over an hour to get my hair cut and it gets on my nerves every time. The price for a basic cut has also increased to 35 dollars this new year. I don't mind paying that or even more just please implement an appointment system I don't like to waste so much time cutting my hair. read more

This place is hipster heaven. Went in with a couple of friends. The barber didn't listen to what I asked for. When I asked him to fix I, he said "sure I'll give you a second haircut." He made me feel like it as my fault that he gave a terrible haircut. I also had him trim my beard. It was uneven and and not at all what I asked for. Too short. On the plus side, they did offer me a shot of whisky. Which I guess if I drank enough of them, I wouldn't have noticed the terrible job. Over priced, mediocre. Don't like giving bad reviews, but this unfortunately calls for it. Avoid getting Ryan as your barber at all costs. I've been paired with him a few times this year (I kept forgetting his name and didn't realize it's him who they gave me otherwise I would have re-booked w someone else), and every time I pay for a 30 minute haircut and am out of the chair in ~10 mins. He was even bragging to the barber next to him about how fast he goes through haircuts and how many he gets done in a day. No problem that he rushes, if the haircut was good, but it never is. Each time my sideburns are completely uneven, because he doesn't care enough to take a second to measure, and where the top of my head meets the sides of my head, my hair is janky and not blended at all. Have given him and the store the benefit of the doubt too many times where I can't do it again. read more

Unprofessional and unwelcoming to outsiders (if you know what I mean). The guy made it so clear he didn't want to cut my hair that I got out of the chair even before he started! I arrived before it opened and was the last of the first round of customers seated. While everyone else was getting going, the barber (he never bothered to introduce himself --shaved head, stocky, seated in second chair from window) was walking around the shop and getting set up, taking way longer than everyone else. No problem right? When he finally gets to me he's super unfriendly. Doesn't even introduce himself, sits me in the chair and immediately starts talking to his barber buddy about his vacation and some TV show he likes. Then goes over to some other waiting customer he knew about getting him a coffee, where he's getting the coffee, what kind of coffee he wants, etc. At this point over 20 minutes have gone by and feels like the guy is just stalling. When he finally turns his attention to me he asks me to sit up in the chair. Apparently it wasn't to his satisfaction so he leans over to me and says "why don't you show a little self-confidence." Huh? He then asks me how I want my hair cut. I show him a photo from my phone and say "more scissors than clipper please" which seems like a pretty normal thing to say to a barber. He immediately gets bent out of shape like I insulted him and repeatedly says that he does it his way and if I want to see someone else, I should. After he says it for the third time I ask him if HE would prefer that I see someone else. "Up to you buddy," he replies. At this point it's pretty clear that this guy just does not want to cut my hair. I also look around and realize that I don't look like most of the other customers (I'm often mistaken for Latino) and it slowly dawns on me what's going on so I get up to leave. Some other barber steps in and suggests that I come back in 20 minutes and he would cut my hair instead. As we're talking, bald barber is glaring at me and jawing to his buddy. Maybe the other barbers are perfectly nice and don't have a "problem" serving customers who don't look like them. I'm certainly never going back to find out. read more

Started going to Bostonian a few months back, and I absolutely love the place. The barbers are enjoyable to talk to, there's great energy in there, and the haircut is always perfect. Got a cut this week while watching the Bruins game, nothing beats that. If you need a suggestion on a barber, Eddie is the man. I've been here three times and I'm still figuring out my groove with this place. The gents are cheerful and can certainly cut. I've had amazing cuts, and okay ones but overtime I hope I can have a rapport that lends to the previous more than the latter. I think the charm and frustration is the lack of appointments. Pretty sure this is the best barber shop I've ever been too. Why? The most talented and passionate barbers in the city. Skillfull, stylish taste, and friendly. Some are even genuinely funny! They made me feel like a lifelong customer even though it was my first time and that's huge. The interior design is superb. My barber was telling me that they paid tens of thousands of dollars to get 1920's barber chairs professionally restored and boy do they look slick. They even have a genuine national cash register.
