Did a walk-in and luckily it was right at the point when a guest was finishing. My hair growing out and getting out of control and really need a nice cut. I told him that I'm in the process of tryinf to get a new job so wanted a cut that was sharp. Very pleased with the result. The cost was a little pricey at $40 but overall, well worth it. worst haircut I've ever received. barber didn't listen to what I asked for (even showed pictures of my own hair for a reference) and got nothing even close to what I asked for / showed. He was very rough and stabbed me and scraped me with his comb multiple times. He took his clippers to my mustache after I told him not to. He thinned my already thin hair to the point I look like I'm balding. Will never go to this shop again. I couldn't go to my last barber since he was closed on Sundays and I stumbled upon this shop. I decided to give him a go and see how it was. I prefer to spend less than $25 for a haircut since I usually get a simple cut. While I did get a decent cut, this is what happened to my neck. If I spent less than $20 on a haircut and I got cuts all over the back of my neck. I would have accepted it, but since I paid $25 dollars for this to happen, I wanted to write a review. Sully's Barber is a great place, located conveniently next to Brigham Circle and the Colleges of the Fenway (FINALLY!). If you're looking for generic, simple cuts, this is definitely a place to go. First couple of times I was here, the barbers did a great job with my hair. The owner is a middle aged man, pretty talkative and very polite. Also had the pleasure of an African-American gentlemen cut my hair as well and he was very detailed in his work, and took a lot of time to cut my hair. Only reason this place got a 3 was due to an incident in which I wanted to alter my hairstyle from a combover to an uppercut. I trusted the barber (bad idea) when I proposed the idea, thinking he'd advise me not to do it if my hair wasn't grown where it should be. Anyways, he basically just used the clippers and hit the sides and the back with them. Without even touching the top portion to trim it or shape it. Was not very happy and had to go a month with some funky looking hair in the back of my head. Overall, for $15 (student price), I'd recommend this place if you have no where else to go and are located in the Mission Hill area. Just come with low expectations and asking for simple cuts. read more

I'm from Eden Prairie, MN where they charge $30 for a haircut. With this shop I can get a cut and a shave for only $25. The attention to detail is great here and the barber even did my eyebrows for free! Sully's is not a good barbershop for a couple of different reasons. First off, I will start off by saying the fade that my barber gave me was really bad. The service was by far the most frustrating part about this cut. Now I'm gonna keep it real, I understand that at barbershops cutting hair takes time and I'm cool with that as long as the haircut is very good. But I said in this place and waited for close to 45 minutes to finally get a cut, only to sit for an hour and a half as my barber struggled to give me an adequate skin fade. I asked right before the cut how much it was he said "25", only to find out that a skin fade was 5 dollars extra, AFTER the cut. You're better off going to Sal's barbershop. Cheaper, quicker and better service with way more talented barbers cutting your hair. read more

Despite it all- this barbershop will make sure of one thing; you will look WAAAAY better walking out than you did walking in. There is no efficiency model behind it. You will sit in that chair as long as it takes to make you look up to their standards. This emphasis on quality is credited to both the history of the sullys brand and the stores manager/highest demand barber, Freddy. Freddy has a clear talent cutting hair with a unique eye for detail that I've witnessed remain consistent throughout nonstop work days that in some cases, leak into after hours (due to being understaffed). The only drawback is that having set the bar so high himself, it makes it very difficult to recruit the right talent. Over the past few years, Sullys has gone from barber on every chair down to just Freddy back to a few barbers then repeat. Which is a mystery in itself considering how much barbers improve working alongside him. Most cases barbers become jealous of his established reputation and instead of matching his work ethic, they begin to act up and blow the chance to establish themselves. ESPECIALLY when Freddy always hands off walk-ins to other barbers considering his full appointments. The opportunity is there... I encourage two things: If you are a first time walk-in, go in with patience and enjoy the atmosphere. You won't regret the service. If you are an aspiring barber/stylist looking for an opportunity to apply your creativity to your craft-reach out to Sullys. This shop has bigger plans than just pumping out "satisfactory" haircuts. I don't understand why anyone would complain about barbers talking so much at a barbershop? I come in there to make jokes and talk crap. Sully's barbershop is hands down the best around. The diverse barbers are respectful and have the best scissor game in town. Want a European, modern haircut? You can find it at Sully's Barbershop. Want a Drake fade with the part on the top? Sully's Barbershop got you. I personally go to Freddy, who fixed my hair the way I never could imagine. Anyone can give you a decent haircut, but he puts in the extra effort to analyze you, so the haircut compliments your head shape. There clearly is a LACK of emphasis paid to barbers who can cut Asian hair. Asian men have straight thick hair that can become quite an enigma to most barbers. That said, Sully's sole blonde, Caucasian female barber (who works Monday-Saturday) is a champ. I asked for a number 1 fade on the sides & back and just thin the top. The fade was meticulously done. Granted, she didn't have thinning scissors for the top, but she made it work. Love the clean cut feeling from the razor blade at the end. $25 + tip. Great service. Location wise: Sully's is close enough to Harvard Med campus and makes it easy to get a quick cut after class. Don't know what all the rave with Freddy is about. I guess the guy is the owner? All I know is the guy in the back is blabbering off at 60 miles an hour and then steps out and misses his appointment while I was there. To start, I have lived in Boston 3 weeks and went on a Saturday afternoon. I was cut by a younger Puerto Rican (he told me) man. Everyone working was real pleasant and easy going. It was $25 for a cut and a "shave". I will address my review in two parts: The cut was real good. He had a real attention to what I was looking for (real clean, professional) and kept making sure it was right. He cleaned me up with a straight razor and it looked very nice. The shave was bad from the get go. I'm no master, but this was just rough. Not only did I have more cuts then I have ever on my own, but the straight razor itself was just put in yet felt like sandpaper. Granted, he did use cream and aftershave and all that. I walked out knowing I was going to be feeling/looking rough. Next day; still have visible cuts, razor burn on 70% of my neck, 20% of my face. Summarily, I would go again for a CUT. Overall the haircuts I've gotten here have been ok, but the wait has always been ridiculous. Most recently I went on a Sunday when they are supposed to open at noon, and although I got there at 1245, no one was there. At 110 the barber arrived and although two of us were waiting he took his friend who had come with him first. I stayed until 145, and he was just finishing up with his friend. Since I would've had to wait at least another thirty minutes I left. This is the second time I've waited over an hour to get a cut when there are few people there. I don't plan on going back. Unless you have a lot of time to kill I wouldn't recommend it. read more
