Overview: great class, terrible traffic and parking, but worth it! ---- Located in Ocean Beach so traffic getting them is crazy and parking is toughhh, especially on fridays, and the weekend. Make sure you give yourself enough time when planning on getting therWe found some street parking a couple blocks away and walked. Our instructor, Aurora, did a quick demo and then we were left to create our pieces. We had 3 balls of clay (give or take a half pound each ball) to work with and you get one free piece firing included with the class, and additional pieces to fire are $10 each. It's pretty autonomous but if you need help the instructor is there to assist you. After you create your pieces, you pick a glaze and then clean up the work station. The class is 90 minutes and it goes by quick, time flies when you're having fun!! ---- Overall: had a fantastic time creating pieces that will hopefully be functional ware, a great date idea, I can't wait to be back and try out their open studio times read more

Loved our recent visit to Botanica in Ocean Beach! At first glance, it looks like an adorable plant shop, but they also host ceramic wheel-throwing classes, which my boyfriend and I decided to try--and I'm so glad we did. Our class was on a really nice day, and for a super reasonable price, we got 1.5 hours on the wheel, which felt like the perfect amount of time. The wheel throwing class is either indoors (behind the plant shop) or in the back (half exposed garage). We were in the back and it was a good amount of space for our group of 4 people. There were more couples next to us as well. Also, I loved that they allow you to bring outside drinks to enjoy while creating, making it a fun and relaxed experience. Our instructor was great--attentive when needed but also gave space to explore at your own pace. This wasn't our friend time on the wheel, but we were with friends who were new to wheel-throwing, so he assisted when needed. I can't wait to see our finished ceramic pieces! Whether you're a plant lover, an aspiring ceramicist, or just looking for a unique experience, Botanica is definitely worth checking out. After your session, it's a good excuse to explore the streets of OB - especially on a very sunny day. I'll definitely come back another time. read more

I LOVE plants. They practically cover every inch of my home and I am always looking for more. Botanica has suuuch amazing deals on plants and the employees are SO kind. They're very knowledgeable about how to care for plants and do not hesitate to help when asked. There is also a great selection of home goods here and homemade ceramics which are soo well made. They have great smelling candles and perfumes which you can refill (recycling your same bottle) at a discount! Honestly, there is no other plant store where I can find deals like this. The plants are so healthy and I cannot recommend Botanica enough. read more

This place is incredible! We had some time to kill before our flight home. We always make it a point to stop at Ocean Beach to dip our feet in the sand and catch some Vitamin Sea. While there we found this Nursery and had to stop in just to peep around. My friend and I are plant enthusiasts as is her mother. They have an incredible selection of plants and the further back in the store that you go the more you will find. Great decor and pots that are made in house. The tillandisias were amazing and huge; and such a great price. The plants were healthy and well rooted to set up the plant purchaser for success. The only downfall is they do not ship. While you can purchase select items from their website the plants are not able to be sold via interwebs and shipped. That being said, we may plan a road trip instead of flying so we can purchase some plants at a great cost. read more

My husband and I frequent the Farmers Market on Wednesdays and wanted to find another little plant to add to our home! I've walked past Botanica multiple times but was always so hesitant to check them out, only because I don't have the best track record with plants. Bryan, our little fur babies and I walked into the store and just felt so welcomed, the store itself is aesthetically pleasing, beautiful macrame plant holders, an inviting little sitting area and of course an abundance of gorgeous plants. We walked through the front portion of the store and realized that there was a nursery with more plants outside! Such an amazing garden with so many options for plants, I'm trying to start slow and not overwhelm myself with so many plants so I opted for a White Butterfly Syngonium and another plant Bryan ended up choosing. Our cashier gave us some tips to keep all our little pants alive, she mentioned our two latest additions do well with little sun and only being water once a week, thankful for that tip! I am hoping if these two stay alive, I'll be adding a couple more additions, maybe fancying their current pots. $14 for two plants, I am definitely coming back. read more

Great experience shopping here today. I just needed to get in and out and had an idea in my head of what I wanted. Lauren was really kind to help, she even repotted 2x plants for me. I bought two cute pots, one hanging pot and 3 plants. The store is pretty large and very nicely laid out. I love all the earthy handmade ceramic pots. They have locally made candles, cute little cacti gardens in small pots, cool greetings cards, semi precious stones/crystals, books. It's really cool. I'll definitely be back for more plants. I've been to a few specialty plant shops, their prices are reasonable, the pots/containers can be more spendy than the plants, but don't you want your plants to look good too? I love Botanica Home and Garden. I have been coming here every couple months for over a year now for new plant babies and gifts for friends and family. This is also where I go when I am pissed off in general to feel better and self medicate with a new plant baby. It's so zen and the best vibes. All the plants I have bought from them have thrived with the proper care. I typically repot within two days of purchasing plants and am always impressed by how well rooted the plants are. Their selection is top notch and I love their rare plants section, make sure you have at least 30-60 minutes reserved because you are going to want to look at everything. It is so well organized and I have had zero pest issues because of how well maintained they keep their selection. They also carry EB organic soils and horticulture sand that I replenish often. Their pricing is also unbeatable. Staff is also super helpful with guidance on plant care. read more

My friends and I were strolling around the streets of OB and stumbled upon Botanica Home and Garden. What a lovely store. Everything looked beautiful, and I was really surprised they had more plants in their back nursery. That's where I found my lovely fern. I'm so happy with this purchase. Staff at the checkout counter provided me with info on how to tend for this plant. Glad to say my plant is pretty healthy and still alive! I personally think this place is a hidden gem for plants and home decor, stumbled across it while walking my dog down Newport Ave in OB. The first time I picked up a philodendron Micans that's thriving now & an abstract print for my wall. Second time, purchased unique/vintage looking candle holders. They've expanded the plant area and have such a wide selection with some of the most full sized I've seen (the other day there was a massive Alocasia Black Velvet). Plants are decently priced here too! I got into house plants during peak COVID and regretfully overspent $$ twice what they offer here. Now I gotta resist the temptation to load up on all those lush babies when I pop by. read more

My family and I recently finished the ceramic classes that are held in the store by Ellis. We all had a fantastic time, and made several pieces of functional pottery. He was always available to answer our questions, while still allowing us the freedom to explore our creativity. I would highly recommend anyone thinking about taking these classes. We got a little Hoya Australis for a great price, which turns out is actually a rare Hoya and gets fragrant flowers. We also got some sparkly little geodes, from their affordable rock specimens. I love this little home and garden shop! They have some of the cutest decorative pots for plants. The owner of the store is really knowledgeable about all things plants, I've been following her since she had a stand at the OB farmer's market. She also has a little area where you can build your own little potted plants. Another reason I love this shop is they carry 1502 Candle Co. items. This little company has the best candle scents. All in all, I really enjoy coming to this charming shop. I wish I still lived in OB, so that I could stop by more often. :) read more

I love this store! The owner's design capabilities are amazing, they way she pairs plants with pots and wood pieces and arranges the look is truly special. I told her she needs to do at home consulting for a minimum purchase, I'm sure I'm not the only one who would jump on it. This store is home and decor and plant GOALS AF. She has such a niche for placement and design in her store it makes me want to live in it. I'm so inspired by all of the patterns and local made jewelry, 1502 candle company, and the natural feel. I went into the back and she has a whole plant shop. So many unique cactus and all healthy looking plants for inside or outside. You can also find crystals and macrame inside. I love this shop! They have a great selection of unique and affordable home decor items, plants, candles, etc... Also, the owners are super friendly/knowledgeable/helpful. Be sure not to miss their nursery in the back. I went in a couple of times before I realized they have a great selection of plants in the back patio. Also, you can get candle refills (doesn't have to be in something you purchased from them)! I'll be moving out of OB soon :( but will still drive back to specifically come here. read more
