Came here for flowers for our wedding anniversary. My wife is a bit of a flower snob, and she absolutely loved the bouquet! The flowers were very fresh, and they were very friendly there. This place is a local gem. I thought it was a chain because of the name Thistle, but if has nothing to do with the food delivery service. The hardest part was finding it, because it's part of a converted house and shares the space with an art studio. I'd walked by it a million times and never knew it was there. I am extremely disappointed with my Valentine's Day flowers. Paid $75 + $20 delivery feel for an arrangement that was no where near that value. Recipe : 3 roses, 1 hydrangea, 2 bells of Ireland, 2 stock, 2 ranunculus. The vase couldn't have possible been more than $10 from the wholesale provider they probably use. This amount of flowers is ridiculous for that amount even with the upwelling price or the holiday. The roses were anything but fresh too. The overall look was nice but not worth the amount. I can't believe I've never reviewed Thistle. I've been buying flowers and plants from Shannon and Melanie for years. They function like a real independent business. I just email them whenever I want an arrangement for my wife and they are always accommodating and their flowers never disappoint. They have a great aesthetic and make arrangements like nothing I've seen before. I agree with others who have said that for some reason their flowers seem to last quite awhile. Maybe they chose flowers that last, I don't know. But my wife loves that her flowers stay looking nice for more than a few days like is typical. I didn't think I was a bridezilla, but I really stressed Melanie (the owner) out with my indecisiveness and inability to explain exactly what I wanted. Good thing my husband can understand me and explain what I'm trying to say! I was really worried at first that the flowers wouldn't be what I wanted to Melanie worked extra hard and assured me that "You'll see. They will be beautiful." And she was so right!! My flowers came out beautifully and I got a lot of compliments on them. She worked extra hard and made several sample centerpieces for me until it was what I wanted. She also searched high and low for these purple/grey berries that I really loved but they were out of season so she had to special order them and could only get enough for my bouquets. But they were enough to be noticed by many guests! For our first meeting, she was thoughtful enough to suggest a place closer to where we were because she knew there was some fair going on near her shop and it would take us a long time to get in and out. She stopped off at our cake place before our wedding to decorate my cake, brough the bouquets to our hotel, personally pinned all the boutennieres on the men because she wanted to make sure it was pinned correctly and wouldn't fall off, then went to the ceremony site to decorate it. She was just amazing. Also lent us shepherd hooks and was willing to work with our budget. I highly recommend her! For my wedding, I was initially on the fence about whether or not to get real flowers or buck the trend and go with paper flowers, but at the end of the day - what would I do with paper flowers that I wouldn't with real ones which ended up adding "life" to our décor. Im glad I went with real flowers and San Diego Bay Flower Co. worked with me to create the perfect look. My only constructive comment would be that I had met with the florist's assistant initially who (I thought) did a great job of taking down my wants and desires. We agreed to meet again about a month before the wedding, this time it was with the actual florist/owner. It sounded like it was a busy season for her, but it was like starting all over again, which was a bit frustrating. In the end, the flowers turned out beautifully, were delivered on time and lasted for nearly two weeks afterwards, so it's hard to really dock them much for that. I called a little last minute to see if they could fit in a wedding consultation while my mom was in from out of town. They were very friendly and accommodating especially considering the late notice. Don't be deterred by their website that appears to be under construction. The shop is adorable and the portfolio pictures they emailed me looked great. Most importantly they listened to my budget constraints and seemed truly excited by my ideas and to get my business. She took not only one, but two meetings with me (at least an hour long) before I even decided to go them as my florist. I love this place!!! First off, it is a cozy shop that makes you feel like your in a flowery cottage in an open field. Basically you get that feeling like your at home. Melanie was very helpful. All the bridal bouquets were unbelievable and the boutineers were awesome and stayed intact all night (even with all the hugging, dancing, etc.) Our centerpieces were truly works of art and really brought our vision alive.
