I used to for many years attend Boteco everyday. I used to drive almost an hour to go to Boteco depending where I was during lunch time. The food was great, and the service used to be awesome. They have a "picanha" on skillet that was the best. I used to drink a lot beer, but after a few years it started affecting my life in a negative way, not their fault, I had to completely stop. Well, that meant I was spending less money. They certainly didn't like that, and started to ignore me with the hope of quit going there. After I realized the service was going from bad to worse, I complained with the manager in charge. He did absolutely nothing because he didn't have power over the bartender. I then complained to the owners. They fixed the problem for a little while but eventually the bartender started badmouthing to other customers about me by saying that I only give him the 15% up charge for tips. Marcos has a reputation of badmouthing everyone he doesn't like. He like to treat the people who leave extra tips better. He gives food away to these people with the hope of increasing his tips. That's called stealing. He would get different plates with a variety of things and give away to everyone in the bar, obviously except me. He was trying to get a rid of me because he knew I'd only give me 15% tip, although he thought he deserved more than that. Some of the customer had told me to beware of Marcos because he was trying to destroy my personal reputation. Marcos used to say that the owners don't know how to run the restaurant. He used to say that they like to do things illegally all the time, they liked to buy bad quality food because it was cheaper, that they had no authority over him every time I used to tell him I was going to tell the owners - he used to say to me they will never fire him because they needed him too much since he is he only one that actually works there. I mean, that's ridiculous, talking BS about his own co workers? I think the worst part is that he liked to make indecent proposals to every women he found attractive. Specially of they work for Boteco, he felt he had power over them. Many of them quoted because of Marcos. Since I was going there everyday, I was able to absorb many of these things. Most of them times, if the food wasn't done right, he would try to push it to the customer anyways. The majority of the customer would have to wait a very long time before getting the bill, and that was annoying. Let me say a couple of good things: Herbert and his wife are the best servers at Boteco. They are very polite and knowledgable. I will give the thumbs up! Conclusion: I think Marcos has too much power and that needs to stop. It's costing too much money to Boteco, and it's steering away honest people whether it's a customer or a co-worker. Marcos has the ability to negotiate all the deliveries or beers that boteco buys from vendors, and that's very dangerous, and it's not recommended. This is one of those places I keep coming back to. I have brought friends and they all loved it and made them into regulars. Live music after 8pm on Friday and Saturday which finishes around 11. Lots of local Brazilians give this place that "Brazilian feel". Great staff....even so not all are Brazilians :-) I know I will be back....many times! Went back today with a few friends and our kids. Not sure if it was the 3 added mouths that we had to feed that may have led me to a change of heart but today...well it just wasn't the same. We started with the empanadas mixta which are cheese, meat and shrimp. They seemed very greasy today and the meat lacked flavor and was lacking, well, meat. The shrimp was ok but not stellar. Cheese, how does one ever mess up fried cheese? It was what is to be expected from a fried empanada of cheese, gooey and addictive without any real reason why. The Pincha, which we ordered medium well, for the kids, was cooked well and had more fat than I typically like for a place like this. It was rubbery and tasteless, not even the tomato topping could save it. I was really excited for the fried yuca which comes as a side and felt like the portion had shrunk since my last visit. The centers were bland and again the yuca lacked any real resemblance of taste. The place is still very cute and extremely kid friendly but at $16/plate even sharing, I won't be bringing the kids back here to eat. Came here the other night with the lady and had a pleasant time. First time for us at a non rodizio Brazilian restaurant. The service was attentive and helpful with the menu. Delicious authentic Brazilian food! Whereas I found the picanha na chapa price a little bit steep for the small amount of meat, $20 for the feijoada buffet is pretty awesome. Very good Brazilian food, fun & musical atmosphere. The only reason I don't give it one more star: the lack of air conditioning really gets to you after a while, we left without dessert because we couldn't bear the heat any longer. They have all you can eat skewers on Thursday nights: shrimp, chicken, beef, sausage and chicken heart (no thanks), all good, tasty and yummy. I want to give it zero. Terrible service! Can't find a waitress. Can't get a drink. The menu sucks. No options. Over priced. Weird sizes. Seems like everything is ala carte. I ordered Caprese "salad" and it was five slices of tomotaos and mozz, with a sprinkle of basil. No dressing. Tasted weird. The drink sucked. This place is meh on food but great for drinks and a great bar scene. The food here does not have a good quality to price ratio. The Picanha na chapa is cooked perfectly but the quality of the meat is just ok. The pao de queijo are ok and the coxinha are pretty good although a little rich. Overall this is a great place for a fun night out after 10pm but there is better food not to far away. I have yet to find a great restaurant that serves brazilian food but is not a rodizio. This place is a local favorite of ours...we love to support our local restaurants so I HAVE to write a review but the truth is that Boteco deserves it's 4 stars. Let's start with what I'd like to see improve but it wasn't really that big of a deal: 1. Service is a tad "rough" around the edges. I think this could be b/c it has a major locals following and it's not necessarily a place you expect stellar service. 2. It's LOUD. If it's not the stereo being blasted, it's people talking loudly and when there's live music, it's loud as one expects with live music. So my caveat is I don't ever leave this place feeling relaxed but with a slight headache...which may in part to the stiff caipirinhas. 3. Parking is a pain in the booty if you go on Saturdays for their yummy feijoada buffet. If valet is full you have to take your life into your own hands parking the NASCAR speedway otherwise known as 79th street. Practically lost my beans parking offsite with an infant seat one day...don't recommend that for sure. So what I love about this place. It's chill, laid back, like I said it seems to have a lot of local traffic and they all appreciate the atmosphere and food. Don't expect fancy...it's a bar/lounge/restaurant vibe with indoor and outdoor seating. I can't say the food is nearly as good as what I have had in Sao Paulo or Bahia. The Moqueta in Bahia was so good I was practically crying with joy. Here, I was "okay, this doesn't come close to what I had in Brazil, but I like it!" Same thing with the Feijoada. It's just different. Not quite as flavorful but it's still good. So for the die hard Brazilian or world traveler just be prepared to check your previous expectations at the door and go with the flow...I will say that as far as Brazilian food goes, this is the only place I've found in Miami that's good. Everywhere else was just - bad. With as many Brazilians here I just don't get that but the same can be said of the Colombian and sadly, a lot of Cuban food in Miami. The picanha is good. They know how to cut and grill a steak. Loved it. Love the music on Saturdays but it you want to have a conversation of have kids I'd sit outside where you won't feel like you're at a live concert. I bring people here on Saturdays b/c it reminds me of Saturday traditions in Brazil and most of the people I bring really enjoy it. My Brazilian friends just go with the flow but you can tell they think it's good but not rock star good. So net-net - it's a recommended place just be aware of the atmosphere and be ready for loud. read more

Took a reservation as if they were going to be open after midnight and they weren't. they were closing at 11pm although they apologized and the manager offered us champagne, my family (party if seven) ended up looking for a place to spend the midnight hour. Yes five stars is correct the food amazing the caipirinas to died for. I had the best and most tasteful lunch in years. The service was fast and sad the waiter had a problem looking at you when you talked to him. I enjoyed it. A lot of Brazilians frequent this place and the times I have gone for dinner around 930-10pm there has been a soccer game rapping up. It's definitely a causal environment with a DJ, bar, and a small dance area that gets packed on Tuesdays. I did not find unequal treatment for non Brazilians as other Yelpers have reported. read more
