Indian has always been my favorite cheat meal in NYC and London so the craving has been real since I moved to Charlotte. My favorite Indian spot in Uptown went out of business during the pandemic so I've been on the hunt since .... I just discovered Botiwalla today which is located inside the Optimist food hall. I heard great things about their location in Atlanta and was eager to try this place as soon as they opened here in Charlotte. First off, the lamb burgers lived up to its expectations. They come in bigger than average sliders. The patties themselves were packed with flavor while the chutney and ketchup gives it a balance of spice and savory taste too. A highly recommended item. First time ever trying SPDP and can't wait to have it again. The crunchy puffs had a surprisingly sweet taste to them that makes you want more of. The chicken tikka roll was also delicious and very filling. The naan was super soft and the rata really complemented it. Only complaint about the roll was that the chicken was too charred so it left that burnt taste on the tongue. Also the raw onions were chopped a little too big for my liking, but that's just a preference. The mango lassi was pretty good too. Refreshing and sweet. Couldn't taste the cardamom in it; perhaps the sweetness from the mango greatly overpowered it but still delicious. Oh my yum! Great Indian food! The spice level wasn't overwhelming which was great for me (being pregnant) I got the Paneer Tikka Roll, which had this delicious slaw on it and a side of yogurt sauce. My husband got the Lamb Sliders (we were unaware there were 2, so a pleasant surprise) seasoned beautifully with lots of flavor and topped with the same slaw and Maggi ketchup. The sliders had a higher spice level that the paneer but we believe it was the ketchup. I got a Mango Lassi and my husband got a boozy slushy which was a Pineapple Mule. In absolute terms, three stars feels a bit harsh for Botiwalla -- if you're eating in at Optimist Hall, there always seem to be places to sit and the decor is welcoming and engaging (and they've got seats outside in the back). The food, at least in my experience, is fresh and flavorful. The menu is streamlined in the way most food hall places are -- not the breadth that you'd get at a traditional restaurant, but enough positions that you probably won't feel like there's only one thing on the menu you'd want. The problem is the proportions. The boti rice bowls are a loooot of rice (nicely spiced, with some onions, tomatoes, peas, and cilantro and mint). The three skewers of chicken tikka were fine for me. Not generous, but adequate. But I still had a lot of rice left over after the chicken was gone. The dish comes with a little cup of raita (great, just how I like it). But it's the smallest little plastic cup you've seen in your life. (Not much more than a McDonald's ketchup packet, I'd say.) Gone in a flash. Give us more raita and/or more chicken (or add tomatoes, or cut back on the rice!) I shouldn't complain, though, because the price point is great: $11.99 read more

Food is good but service is very bad and had arguments with customers I ordered for 95$ and 2 plates of burger and no ketch up and when I asked the guy at counter said only one ketchup will be given next one will be charged. Ketchup in most restaurants is free on table and it should given with the burger charging for it on a big order and one ketchup for 4 people is silly. Their staff is very friendly and they know about Indian Food very well. My favorite food from Asheville, now available right in my Queen City! Meherwan and his team does it again!! After the smashing success of Chai Pani Decatur, they are now here at Optimist Hall. This is going to make for some delicious lunches once we return to work! It is a much smaller menu than Chai Pani (because street food, duh!) but as they say, good things come in small packages! My absolute favorite on the menu is the wada pav and the lamb burger. I cannot remember if this is the same as the Parsi lamb burger, but it's good regardless. Their Sloppy Jai is my favorite but I did not see it on the menu even though I know they have it. I hear the SPDP is the bomb (Dahi Puri) and the drinks are amazing. If you are looking for some bangin' Indian street food for a change from the usual North Indian/South Indian fare, this is a place you MUST visit. I was so excited to hear about the new addition to Optimist Hall: Botiwalla. An Indian street food concept, this spot, which will have indoor dining post Covid Is a walk up counter service where you give your phone number and they text you when your food is ready. You can then enjoy your food at one of the many tables in Optimist Hall, a food hall with many vendors or outside at their outdoor dining tables. The menu consists of their "sandwiches," which are either their naan rolls or lamb burgers, and snacks like potatoes or rice. I ordered the chicken tikka roll which is a fluffy piece of naan wrapped around spiced char grilled chicken, slaw, and vegetables. It comes with a yogurt sauce that you can dip or pour on the roll. It was so flavorful and so tasty! It reminded me of a Mediterranean pita wrap but with Indian flavors. The original Botiwalla is in Georgia and this spot in Charlotte just opened December 2020. The owner has been nominated for the James Beard award for best chef in the southeast 5 times so you know anything on the menu will be good. The vibe is really cool in the restaurant. They even sell Lays masala chips from India and have other decor from India. I will definitely be coming back to try their other items! read more

The staff are pleasing, the price is decent and they have seating available for their customers. Finding a table on weekends is like searching for a gf when you broke. You go round and round that big hall but you don't find one single table. I recommend chicken tikka rolls or paneer tikka roll if you like veggie. If you getting a beer, then try their Masala Smashed Potatoes. Never been a day i was there and didn't get MSP. Overall they have good food, try anything and i would say you will love it.
