Well appointed and cute shop on the UES Lex/81.. great wine selection grouped in a display type of set up versus lined up flat on the shelf. Trendy Bourbon selection, saw a bottle of Pappy and a few types of Weller. They were happy to wrap the bottles of wine that we chose. Lots of wood, warm antique vibe. read more

Location is very convenient for me, I live a block away, but I probably won't be going back. I've had multiple unpleasant experiences with condescending employees and being quizzed on my ID despite being in their system. You can't browse without being questioned on what exactly you're looking for and made to feel as though you should be a sommelier if you walk through their doors. What kind of zero opens a retail (yes retail) wine store for the purpose of being confrontational to his customers. If you think I'm being dramatic, see some of the other reviews here. Sad part is, some of his staff are helpful, and they have a few decent bottles, which is why I patronized them place a few times before encountering the man with the Napoleonic complex at the register, where I left my selection and walked out. I was a customer since the store opened. have bought $1000s of dollars of wine through the years . supported the store because it was a neighborhood place even though price points were not that attractive and selection was just adequate. I returned a bottle of wine that was terrible, the owner refused to give me a store credit or a refund even though the wine cork was faulty. after all these years this was the only bottle I returned this illustrates the mentality of ownership needless to say, I am no longer a customer read more

I live in the neighborhood and this is the go to liquor store. They have a bigger selection than the other spots, especially when it comes to spirits and gins that are hard to find. Surprisingly, PIMMS is impossible to find these days but they always have it here thank god. read more

Worst liquor store I've been to. We were questioned about our IDs even though we're both over 21. Owner practically quizzed us about our IDs and asked us for our zip code and street address. Owner was so rude to us and the other worker seemed embarrassed to be there. Go literally anywhere else for alcohol. Worst customer service. read more

Rude and pretentious employee. May be it is the stress of the virus. Walked in wearing a mask. Asked where something was; evidently my mask slipped slightly down. Employee haughtily asked me to fix my mask, which I did. Went to pay and employee did not ring up purchase. I asked him if he would ring it up. He said no, take your business somewhere (in spite of the fact that my mask was intact). read more

Probably the worst experience I've ever had. The tall guy at the register & blonde girl working there accused me of having a fake ID. I'm 28 yrs old & just moved to NY from Miami I still have my Florida license. He claimed it was fake & tried to confiscate it. Extremely rude & disrespectful, threaten to call the police as if I was lying. When I then called the police MYSELF because it's NOT a fake license he threw my license back at me. I've never been treated this way anywhere especially after also showing additional proof like my credit card, debit card & student ID. I live around the corner but I would never go back to this place nor recommend it to anyone! read more

Don't let the small size fool you- there's an overwhelmingly awesome selection of wines packed in that tiny storefront. I keep coming back for the excellent Burgundy and Rhone selections, in particular. The prices are quite fair, and the staff has been excellent and approachable. They also keep a lot of Champagne cold for impromptu celebrations, which is a great touch. read more

Apart from the Vintage Grape (3rd Ave near E 83 St- ask for Jim), Bottle and Soul is zip10028's best source for "Old World" wines. Its (generally) knowledgeable staff will go digging through the stock to help fussy customers (this nabe is chockablock full of fussy) find the right bottle. Unfortunately, like most shops on the UES, they have a limited selection of 'natural' wines and wines from the lesser known regions of major European countries. Forget the smaller ones. Pity, if that's your thing. Post Script: A few months later, Adam of Bottle and Soul gave me a tour of the shop; they'd acquired a good deal of new stock. The shop has a great selection of wines and spirits. I have drawn on their inventory of rare American whiskies for special gifts, and the shop will ship to any legally permitted state at reasonable cost. The stock of wine includes excellent products from the world's major regions. I am a bit mystified by the bad reviews of the shop's service. I have been a customer since its opening and have received courteous and prompt attention. The staff and owner have always been quick to inform me of delicious wines offered at good values. read more

I have had multiple bad experiences shopping at this liquor store. The manager is rude and short with the clients. He has given me poor recommendations each time I ask for a specific type of wine. It is a service business which entails knowledge and hospitality which he lacks both of. One should not take for granted the importance of being hospitable and respectful. He acts as if he is doing me a favor each time I enter the store. Too bad he doesn't try and be more helpful and thoughtful like the people who work for him. Avoid at all cost. This was my regular spot for wine for about a year and I loved their selections. But they have zero regard for their customers, even their regulars. I bought a skunk bottle of a wine that is one of my favorites, no ones fault. I asked if I could return it and they said yes. When I brought the bottle in the manager said that's how the wine is supposed to taste and refused to refund or exchange it. It is my go to wine so I know and love the taste. This one was rotten. Lucky for me there are tons of wine shops in the area so I'll happily take my business elsewhere. I hope whatever BS principle they were fighting for was worth losing a regular customer over. read more

This is a neighborhood wine shop with a knowledgeable small staff. They have everything from Premier Cru Burgundy to New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc and small batch artisanal liquor to the big brands. This is a beautiful space with UES charm. Even if they don't have the particular brand that you are looking for, they will help you find something similar that will make you happy! I live in the neighborhood and go out of my way NOT to purchase anything any longer from one of the rudest neighborhood establishments I have dealt with. After years of shopping there for wine, spirits and cases of wine for parties I realized that I didn't have to tolerate the snide Owner's sarcastic demeanor nor their inability to remember my name. Great selection, great staff, great prices. The wide selection available here is confounding, given its size. The staff is very knowledgeable. Walk in there and say, I'm having a pork for dinner and I'd like something the $25 range, and they'll ask you how you're preparing the pork. Any one of them could be a sommelier if they wanted to. They have a number of great wines under $15 as well, making for a good Mon-Thurs bottle. There's also a very well put together whiskey selection in the back, plus they have regular tastings. Great selection, friendly staff, frequent tastings, and on my block? Couldn't ask for better. The staff is extremely helpful, no matter what you're looking to spend. Tastings of 3-4 wines every Friday and Saturday, with 10% off the bottles being sampled. They have a decent liquor selection, which they occasionally have tastings of as well. I am by no means fussy or particularly knowledgeable about wine, but I always feel welcome here and make a point to give them my business instead of other stores in the area. Love it! read more
