Located in the Flatiron/Union Square area, they are truly next level when it comes to brick-and-mortar wine and liquor stores! They have a fantastic selection. Prices are reasonable and I love the fact that they carry quality brands that aren't popular in the media. I placed an order online after work while I was on the train and I got two emails not too long after. The first one was my receipt and minutes later was a confirmation that my order was ready for pickup. I walked in and was greeted with a smile and excellent customer service. The staff alone is enough reason to make you want to return. They had my two tequila purchases nicely packed up and ready to go! I love the fact that every bottle has an informative card displayed next to it so customers can read important facts, tasting notes and ratings. It's a large, beautifully laid out establishment with amazing decor. Bright, clean and tidy. The staff is very knowledgeable and cares to assist in any way possible. I was across the street for my treatments at Therapie clinic and saw they were having a wine tastng, which was just my luck. The ace is huge with a variety of selections, tools, glasses and more! I truly enjoyed walking around and learning about some of the many wines they had and being able to have an informative tasting as well. The drink was amazing and made in New York! Great selection of wines and spirits. The staff was extremely helpful in recommending wines. I think they were the most insightful wines sales associates that I've shopped with. The store has great signage with the bottles offering detailed descriptions. Great focus on quality products. I noticed a pretty nice selection of whiskeys too with some less common bottles. Pricing is higher than other shops but that's expected with shops located in Manhattan. They have a lot of safety measures in place during COVID-19 such as requiring customers to wear disposable gloves when entering the store in addition to the typical mask and distancing requirements. read more

Bottlerocket has a consistent format for their descriptions of wine: a little bit about the region, pairing ideas, and any special characteristics of the wine (e.g., organic). Their labels accompany each bottle of wine, which makes me feel much more confident about buying wine than at most other wine stores in the city. In the center are huge displays with a specific theme, like "gift idea" or "green." I find the organization on the main shelves a little harder to follow; there's a color coordination I could not get with a quick glance. (I think it might have been region?) Obviously, not everyone can be the best, and space in Manhattan is very limited, so they had to be very deliberate about which bottles they put up on their shelf. The staff is always friendly and helpful if you get stuck or just need a suggestion. One of them helped me pick out a scotch for a friend, which he was really happy about. They also have tastings fairly often. I've been offered various gin and wines. Other than that, the location is fantastic. Ugh. Bottlerocket is going to be a problem. Not only is the store great, but the website and mobile app are super easy to use as well. Buying a ton of liquor and not having to leave my home? Trouble. But, this isn't all unique to the NYC area and they get the 5-star nod for the little things provided with my order. Stopped in today to pick up a bunch of Julien Braud Muscadet 40oz's* (wine 40's? Yes.) and it was a breeze; front desk staff to help, free delivery option (bc it's hot outside, people) and 10% off my first purchase. All of the different sections are cutely labeled. It makes the selection a bit less overbearing. You can walk into the store and say to yourself, "hey, I need a decent bottle of wine to go with Thai" and bam, smack in front of you is a section for Thai food. The same goes for Bubbly, seafood and meat. The staff was super friendly and helpful. Do you know what's awesome? A wine store that has 'rocket" in its name. I think of lighting illegal fireworks as a kid. And that's just what I felt when I walked in, like a kid in a candy store. A little sparse on Australian, New Zealand and other new world regions but overall you can find some good wines at a great price point. I ended up getting a Cava (Spanish sparkling wine), Sancerre (French Sauvignon Blanc), Barbera d'Asti, Malbec and a Tawny Port. It was really interesting getting to browse freely and not feel pressured to buy and not feel intimidated by all the wine one may not be familiar with. Great place to pick up a bottle (or several) as gifts or a treat to yourself. I love me a Trader Joe's Wine Shop (nearby) but sometimes you just need something more elevated and not be around NYU kids. Also kudos for having more than one type of Gewürtz! read more

There are floating stations that include categories like "Gifts for the boss, an old friend, Unsure", or if you want a wine that goes with chicken, fish, or dessert. Instead of separating wines by geographical region, you can find the straightforward perfect wine pairing for the occasion instead of having to decipher wine terminology before you enter. They have free tastings thurs, fri, and sat. plus a lot of other events going on all the time. If there were anything I'd want to see more of, it's simply a wider selection. There weren't that many dessert wines, but that's a minor gripe. They really do make choosing wine a breeze, not to mention the staff is knowledgeable and helpful. Bright, colorful, attractively laid out, informative descriptions for every wine and spirit in the store...Yes, indeed, not just wine, but sake, bourbon, gin and other spirits, too. Good range of prices, from the below-$10-bottle, to outrageously expensive ones. Atypical (but cool) way of organizing the selection -- by food pairing instead of wine region. Good recommendation from staff person (a Riesling for a homemade Thai dinner a friend was cooking). My first visit, but won't be the last! read more

Alot of great things about this liquor store: -If you are a first time customer and you provide the cashier with your e-mail address, you receive 10% off your purchase. -Upon providing your email address, the cashier informs you that all your wines are saved and tracked by the store (super convenient in case you have the memory of an alcoholic). -Wide array of wines from all over the world, sorted by country along the walls with a very helpful and friendly staff to help direct you where need be. -Wine booth/displays scattered around the store that provide choices according to a category (i.e. Gifts, Takeout, Seafood, Recipes, Red, Green, etc.) -The store is very clean; reaching for that 10 year bottle of aged Barolo doesn't even bring on a sneeze attack. -Each bottle has a ton of easy to read, important information when buying wine: the grapes in the blend, the country & region of grapes (equipped with a map), Color, texture, body on one line with an expanded description of the aforementioned right below. -The "Easy to read important information" for each wine i picked up came printed out in my bag!!! I LOVE THIS. On my way home, i read each bottle description and realized that there was even more than just the information that is displayed throughout the store. Categories for the wine's results via Eyes, Nose, Mouth are provided along with the rankings from Wine Advocate, Wine Spectator, WSJournal, NYTimes & the store's own Index. I love this place. Part of it has to do with it's ultra convenient location to the office. The other part has to do with the prices. Thirdly, it's without a doubt the best staffed wine/liquor store I have ever been to. In a time crunch? Just need something that goes well with a hearty ribeye or is perfect for a housewarming celebration? Well, you're in luck... They have these little wine kiosks set up in the front of the store. The kiosks help you pair the wine accordingly with the meal or occasion. Super helpful. When you check out they give you a little print out info sheet on the wine you selected. It has space for notes and such so you don't lose track of wines you especially like or dislike. Pretty neat little perk. Also, it makes me extremely happy that Food & Wine rated it as being among the best of the best. read more

If I were to ever open up my own wine shop, Bottlerocket would come very close to what I would want. The place offers so much: great displays (simple, clean, not cluttered), a modern / young / hip feel to the place, a great selection with alot of wines at good prices (alot of stuff for below $15), excellent merchandising that makes it super easy to find the appropriate wine to pair with different types of food, and it's even got a good website and some cool store events to take advantage of. I just went to a wine & chocolate pairing tasting which featured the excellent chocolates of Michel Cuizel (my fave! the best!). Despite my hangover, I still enjoyed the pairing and had some yummy red wine to go along with some amazing chocolate. There's another event coming up with Danny Meyer as well. More events like this and I'll definitely be frequenting Bottlerocket on a regular basis. Oh, really friendly service too... willing to help in any way they can (last time got some great advice on malbecs). First time customers also get 10% off their initial purchase. I'll start by saying what I like about this place. They have a great selection of wine and the store's design is very fun and inviting. I've walked by here many times and always had the impression that the wine was on the higher end of the price spectrum. To my surprise, they had a decent amount of reasonably priced bottles. What I didn't enjoy was the customer service at checkout (older bald guy with an earring). I didn't even get a hello or any sort of greeting. His first and only word throughout the transaction was "ID?". Yes, I look young for my age but this guy proceeded to look at me suspiciously throughout the transaction and then didn't bother to say a thanks or a goodbye. It was incredibly awkward and rude - a complete 180 from the friendly service I encountered while picking out some wine. I think I'll stick to the TJ wine shop! read more

Bottlerocket gives "liquor store" a whole new meaning. I was a first timer here the other day & had never heard of this store; but thanks to yelp & location services, when I typed in "liquor" in the search tab while I was in the neighborhood, yelp led the way to this liquor haven. Jackpot! A bit overwhelming at first (at least to me), with isles & shelves full of booze from every country, taste bud & budget cap, this store is beautifully designed & categorized by wines & liqueurs per country. I was immediately greeted by a friendly employee & during my entire duration in the store (approximately 10 minutes), at least 3 other employees came to check on me & asked if I needed assistance. Wow!! Talk about excellent customer service. As a first timer, I didn't know my way around the store at all but Cubby - one of the nicest employees that has ever assisted me - helped me find my way & gave excellent recommendations on a bottle of champagne that I was looking for. She was extremely knowledgable in the flavors and the making of the wine itself and helped me make a good selection without trying to sell me a more expensive alternate. I highly recommend Bottlerocket if you're in the area & looking for a bottle of wine, champagne or a liqueur - either for yourself or as a gift. Ok, ok. I know I just posted about how cool Mr Wright's is and it is believe me - I love that place. However, liquor stores are like buses. You wait around forever to find one you like and then two come along at the same time. So you have to check out Bottlerocket 'cos it is quite unlike anything you've seen. For a start, they have space. You aren't crammed into small aisles with the creeping fear of sending thousands of quids' worth of vino tumbling each time you take a step back. They have space so that one can actually browse. Then there is the library of wine and food journals at the back with comfy chairs to sit in. And the PC so that you can look up your choices on line prior to purchasing. But what sets them apart are the cool displays that not only make suggestions for pairing certain wines and spirits with particular foods / cuisines, they also have menus from local take outs too. So when i fancy sushi, I can phone through my order to the local Japanese restaurant, whilst standing in line to buy my bottle of Wasabe. It's a beautiful thing.... Which leaves me wondering when someone will open a Mr Bottle Wright Rocket and make me truly happy.... read more

California wine snob's go to wine place in the city. I normally switch between here and Trader Joe's wine store, but I'm not going to trek out to TJ's when this is closer. Bottlerocket has a great location and excellent use of store space. I think their 'stands' of wines scattered around the floor that offer suggestions depending on the situation are a great idea. I've used them a couple of times in a pinch when I don't have time to do serious searching. Really smart alternative for first time or novice buyers. Selection is very good considering the amount of physical wine displayed in the store. I think this is an important point about Bottlerocket; other comparable wine places that have this kind of floor space (or more) usually have a bunch of lousy chucks that are on sale sitting alongside the good stuff. Bottlerocket clearly does their homework in trying to at least bring out a baseline of solid wines. Bottom line is that you're going to walk away with a drinkable bottle of wine. You can walk away with an amazing 10-12 dollar diamond if you look hard. Staff is very friendly and want to guide you to the right bottle of wine. They seem genuine in this, which I think brings back repeat customers. I know a thing or two about wine, but I'm definitely no expert. I have no problems bouncing a question or asking a recommendation on a wine I know nothing about here, something I refrain from doing at other wine places because I just don't believe the other places have staff that know their stuff. This is a wine shop done right. The people are really friendly and helpful. They are very knowledgable but will bring the wine talk down to your level if you're unfamiliar with what certain regions or grapes mean, in terms of flavor. And then, they'll give you a flyer with details, ratings and attributes of whatever bottle you purchase. The flyer has a section for your personal notes, so that you can have them help you select your next bottle. It's not overpriced. It's clean and bright. It really makes you feel like you're doing something GOOD for yourself (as opposed to hunting around in those dark cramped corner liquor stores). They organize wines by type but also have displays by "theme," which is a great way to try out new products if you're feeling adventurous. And most of the wines are paired with brief descriptors so you're not buying blindly. Next thing on my to-do list: attend one of their tasting events! read more

It was excellently run - we tasted seven different wines, all which were a little off the beaten path, and talked about the reasons some of the grapes and territories were good values to order.
