For a small place, great selection of wines that are curated by the owner. The people in the shop know generally about the wines, although not too technically. For the more expensive wines ($30+), they have some great selection and also competitive prices. As with most wine stores, the cheaper wines are always the ones with higher margin and not as worth it. I placed an online order for a specialty gin. When I arrived to pickup the following day, the wrong type was in the bag. After pointing out the difference, the employee told me they did not have the pink gin I had ordered in stock and would have to order. Unfortunately, he said he would be unable to honor the same price, even though the the price on the website, and for which I was charged, was for the pink gin. I asked if they would honor the advertised price since it was their mistake and I had made a special trip from across town. I was told no, it wouldn't make sense for them. So much for customer service. What a horrible way to handle their internal website and inventory mistake. Very nice mid-size shop with a stellar Riesling selection. Not only do they have 40+ bottles of Riesling, nearly all are bone dry and none of them are over $60. Most notable are the two separate Grosses Gawachs they offer under $40! I picked up the Spreitzer Rosengarten GG and it was excellent. Yes, I was impressed by their selection. The prices are on-par with the neighborhood. But what I didn't expect was also their wonderful wine selection. I was looking for some boxed wines, and they had by far the best selection I've ever seen. They even had cans of rose (which I bought and was delicious). There's a refrigerated section in the back for white wines and also a decent sake selection. Perfect now that the NYPD is relaxing on public drinking. Not that I'm condoning drinking in public. I had the perfect glass of Riesling last weekend at Terroir, and set out to buy a bottle. (It was the Feinherb 2015 vintage from Maximin Grunhauser, for the curious-- if you like off-dry, lightly sweet but still complex Riesling, you'll love this.) Fortunately, after a few dead-ends on online vendors I saw that Gramercy Wine and Spirits had a few bottles left in stock. I came in around 9 pm last night and told the guy at the counter what I was looking for. He didn't think they had it in stock, but we were able to find it quickly. It was fairly priced ($22 versus $21 online at other vendors). The shop itself was not bad, though not huge. Staff was meh; I don't need a lot out of my liquor store employees but I wouldn't be excited to ask them for recommendations. I wouldn't be mad if this were my neighborhood wine store, but I'm happy to continue to be spoiled by Astor Wines. read more

I walked in just before closing on Sunday night. There was a fellow behind the counter with a straw hat that I thought was pretty cool. I had great difficulty getting crosstown because there was some sort of street fair on sixth Avenue and I was not in a good mood. He kind of sensed it and said tough day, what are you looking for? I said a couple of half bottles maybe one red and one white. And he selected one called 19 crimes which was California, which I don't drink California wines because they are fruit bombs, but he said this was good. And he was correct. Nice guy read more

I need to give this liquor store 5 stars because their service, selection, and prices. When I say selection, I'm not simply talking about having a number of expensive bottles of scotch (which they do), but also having $2.50 plastic bottles of red wine that I may or may not bring on my next bus/train ride. They have varieties of Macallan I'd never seen before at various price points (though, obviously, all at the higher end of the spectrum), in addition to a bottle of Highland Park 40 for $3,250 which I didn't even know existed. The woman working there told me they actually sell quite a few of those. There are wines from every region that can fit any budget, basically any hard liquor you could want (in any size no less), and a staff that is incredibly knowledgeable. I inquired about a number of the rare Macallans and was given detailed descriptions of their similarities, differences, and overall taste profiles. I used to go to Vino Fine Wine & Sprints on E 27th Street which typically does the trick. However, I came here when they didn't have something I was looking for and I plan on walking the extra couple of minutes every time in the future. read more

The last few times we dropped by included a tasting of Four Pillars Australian Gin (which I will be back for when my gin-drinking friends visit) and buying several bottles of a Spanish Rioja rosé whose intense raspberry color was as unexpected as its dry, minerally finish. We decided not to partake in the lackluster and overpriced wine in our mini bar at the hotel so, we ventured out to find a store. We rushed as we knew it was almost closing time and we made it just in time. We have a favorite wine that they only sell in boutique stores in Texas and Colorado so, we weren't too optimistic about finding it here. We were greeted by the person working immediately upon entering and we showed him a picture of the wine label and to our surprise he took us over to where it was. It wasn't the exact blend but, it was the brand we love. I couldn't believe how knowledgeable the staff was and they were really excited that we knew about the wine and the level of our wine knowledge in general. We stood there chatting for about 10 minutes and after raving about the specific blend they are going to look into acquiring some. I was expecting to be overcharged considering the area; however, 8 out of 10 wines that i scanned for prices were cheaper here than the national average (according to my app). Some of the sulfates i selected: *A lovely and highly rated (3.7 out of 5 stars, and based on 106 ratings) Red Aglianico for $14.99 while the average price was $17. Aglianico, dubbed the Barolo of the South, has recently been gaining popularity. Traditionally not a very popular Italian wine, the Southern blend is unfortunately not carried in alot of liquor stores, so i was happy to find a bottle here. *An unknown DOCG Chianti to my Sangiovese loving eyes. I haven't seen this particular bottle in my two local liquor stores, so i snatched it for $12.99. Average price turns out to be $14, while the average rating was 3.8 out of 5 stars (based on 61 reviews). *Last but not least, i chose an organic grape French Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot blend from Languedoc-Roussillon. Although not super highly rated (2.9 Stars out of 5 - based on 30 ratings), i gave it a go. read more

This is simply a solid little wine shop. I've been here a few of times, always under the same circumstances: while walking to the 6 after finishing up a post-work pedicure at my favorite spot down the street, I realize that I'm out of wine (or at least out of what I want to drink that night) and that I'm not going to make it to my neighborhood wine shop by its 8pm closing time. Through the power of Yelp, I found Gramercy Wine and Spirits the first time this scenario presented itself and decided to give it a try. I couldn't be happier that I did. While it's a fairly small shop, it's extremely well stocked. At least twice there has been a tasting going on (one time it was whiskey, the other a couple of really reasonably priced but nice - and perfect to open on a weeknight - bottles of red). A neighborhood favorite. Although the shop is small it carries a generous variety of wine, some champagne and brut, and liquor. There is also a growing and changing selection of New York varieties. I run here after school (Baruch) right before getting on train. Supposedly a new family took the place over and the person I believe to be the son of the new owner is so friendly! He chats up all the customers and makes everyone feel comfy. Even before they took over, this has always been a place with great customer service. The workers all seem to be helpful/knowledgeable when you need help making a selection and there is usually a tasting going on which is NEVER a negative :) Overall, they have a nice selection of wines. Not as much hard liquor but the basic names you'd expect to find in most places. I do wish they had more options in this area but I assume their main focus is wine. A range of pricing to fit all budgets, stays open late for college students in the area, and again - staff is friendly and helpful. I truly have nothing to complain about. read more

i bought from the store multiple times in one day. one of the times i ask to please can i make a phone call because my phone had died. i proceed to introduce myself as an act of courtesy and the cashier proceeds to give lots of attitude stating how i am causing such an inconvenience in a supposedly "busy" and understaffed store where there is only me and 2 men in line in the entire store. i am allowed to call at his grand detest, and it was very hostile when i had made my intentions, reasonings clear, no reason to be disrespected like this. i am a frequent customer as well, but as of now that will change.absolutely unnecessary showmanship of attitude. read more

Location is very easy to get to when you're in the gramercy/flatiron area of nyc. Their liquor selection leans towards the premium brands and the more unique stuff; they do have a few standard brands but that is clearly not their focus. Their wine selection is broad and the prices are reasonable. I'm generally a beer guy, and even though I like to think I know what I'm looking for in a wine, I usually have questions when I visit a wine store so I appreciate folks that are patient and knowledgeable.
