Honestly for a little town this place has some great food and good service. To start off parking is usually pretty tight in down town St. Joes but we didn't know that since we were on business. This place seemed like a change of pace from the normal sit down restaurants in the town. Although a little skeptical at first since Cajun this far north seems odd, I was quite impressed with the atmosphere that felt very New Orleansess. We were seated immediately and asked for drinks. They had a moderate selection of beer from your usuals to some local craft beers as well your normal mixed drinks to some bartender crafted specialties. I had a turbo dog dark beer which was tasty. Others had nicely crafted drinks: a Moscow mule and a tasty Bloody Mary. The food was a little long of a wait since they had a 30 person party in the back, which we understood and were okay with since it gave us more time to drink. Everything was awesome. The alligator bites were fresh, crunchy, and flavorful. I had a fried cat fish po boy with Cajun Mac and cheese and it was a magnificent Cajun masterpiece. Everyone else had a crawfish po boy, a giant jambalaya, and some salmon sliders. No one left disappointed and we all had left overs. A MUST VISIT IF YOURE EVER IN THIS SMALL TOWN OF ST. We'v been to Boudreaux's a few times now and it's always hit or miss. The food is either really good or really dry and flavorless. Not sure what's going on with that. Last time my husbands food was dryer and the apps had zero flavor. Our server wasn't very friendly and honestly disappeared a lot. We had to ask other servers to refill our drinks. read more

Highly disappointed in today's visit!! I've been coming to Boudreaux's for the last seven years and it has been my #1 favorite until today. They changed the "gravy" that we love!!!! They ran out of chicken fried steak. The wait for our food was long, and it wasn't even busy. I had been here once before a couple years ago and remembered it being really good, but after visiting today, I can't wait to go back. I actually can't believe I waited so long to go again. The food is absolutely delicious, and our server Jonathan was really great. I ordered the shrimp etoiffie (sp?) and, not surprisingly, ate every last bite. It also came with a side salad which was delicious as well, served with some kind of onion/peppery vinaigrette. My boyfriend ordered the chicken fried chicken, and as a picky eater, he was raving about it--it definitely had a special creole-kick to it and is unlike any chicken fried chicken you'd normally see. I will be making a special trip to St. Joe just to eat here again very soon! Can't wait to try something else on the menu--I'm sure I'll be wowed! read more

Boudreaux's is nothing new to my husband because he grew up in St. Joe. But to me, my daughter, and my granddaughter, it was a real treat. We had half a day 'getaway' a Saturday before Christmas eve so we thought of making a trip to St. Joe. It was about 3PM when we thought of lunch. Hubby suggested we go to Boudreaux's. Wow! I was so impressed with the building it sits in and also other buildings nearby. The interior gave the feeling of antiquity but the place was altogether clean. We were seated promptly and our drinks were served within 5 minutes. I imagine we got there just after the lunch crowd because there were only 5 other tables occupied. We gave our orders to our energetic looking waiter then got up to look around while we waited for our meal. The well-stocked bar and other cozy dining rooms are very impressive and bespeak of the quiet elegance of another era. Our meal arrived within 30 minutes of being there. Hubby had the hamburger which was very good according to him. He is the beef guy. It came with fried onion rings and french fries. The tempura coating of the onion rings is just crispy right. My daughter and I had the Shrimp Etouffee. It was so delicious I ordered another to go. My granddaughter had the Fried Alligator and she said it compares closely to others she's had eaten. She has had Fried Alligator in our travels before. Good food comes with a price. We didn't have no complaints. We gave ourselves a treat and I'd like to go and eat there again next time we are in St. Joe. We live in Overland Park, KS. read more

Great place to eat in St. Joe! We went up for the weekend and had the chance to eat at Boudreaux's. Definitely the right choice, they delivered what they say, good food and good atmosphere. The Étouffée was good and the Shrimp Creole was really good, would recommend it to all. read more

Great experience. We drove from KC because we love Cajun. Crab bisque was amazing so was the Cajun mashed potatoes. Blackened food was wonderful. Oysters on half shell were on the small side. Atmosphere was fun. Service magnificent. We will be back. read more

I would say the average of our table was just...OK. July 17, 2016 in the evening was when we visited. We are planning another trip to the area, but weren't impressed enough to return to this restaurant. The old building was nice, some neat character there. We were looking forward to great food, but sadly were less than thrilled. For appetizers we had the spinach artichoke dip which was light on the creaminess and artichokes, heavy on the spinach, dry and hard to pick up without breaking your chips - meh. We also tried a fried angle hair cheese pasta ball which sounded interesting, but upon arrival seemed more like mac in cheese/mystery pasta inside the ball instead of angel hair pasta, mushy,inside, crunchy outside, not so great on flavor..it didn't make me want to order this ever again.... in any restaurant. My husband had the crab cakes, he liked them, said they were good. My son, age 15, had crab stuffed shrimp which he also said was just ok, I do recall us laughing from him breaking out into a sweat, on his face, from the heat of the food. My daughter had fettucini alfredo with shrimp, she is 12 and said it was a bit too spicy for her, the side she had ordered, mashed taters were also cajun (this is noted on the menu) and was also too spicy for her. I had the shrimp scampi which were quite a few large shrimp on a large bed of angel hair pasta with butter/garlic underneath the pasta, along with another cup of the garlic butter sauce to drizzle over top. At first glance, I was excited to eat this, but after one bite, I was overwhelmed by what seemed like about 3 TBS of fresh Italian type season (uncooked) and dumped all over the shrimp. The seasoning was so overpowering, it was all I tasted, rather than the butter and garlic of the scampi that I wanted to taste, even with the extra drizzle it still didn't help drown out the seasoning. I had about two shrimp off the plate, and sent the rest of the meal back uneaten. My son and I both had a ordered a salad, which was supposed to have come with our meal, but our waiter never delivered them, but by the time we realized it, we already had our entree, and didn't bother telling our waiter that he forgot them. You know for sure you are at a cajun place while eating here, EVERYTHING has that same spicy undertone. So if you love spice, this is probably your place. With all the heat from the food, the 8oz. size drinking glasses could have been larger, or maybe just filled more often by our waiter. by the time you filter out the ice, you get about 3-4 good drinks of liquid before you need a refill again which is absurd with the amount of spice they put on each plate. read more

The worst piece of fish I've ever had and I've had a lot of fish in my 40+ years. With modern shipping/storage methods, reasonably fresh fish should be available in Missouri. This tasted like it had been lost in the back of the freezer for a few months. The waitress didn't make the experience any better. Perhaps she was just having one bad night, but she was unpleasant (condescending, brusk, and inattentive) from the start. Was there with clients. Had a delicious dinner here for our 29th anniversary. We were nervous about trying alligator so the waitress brought us a little sample which prompted us to order them and gobble the all up. Even thought they were fried they felt light and were so flavorful. My husband also enjoyed the stuffed jalapeñoes. The house steak was melt in your mouth scrumptious with great flavor! It came with a nice fresh salad and we opted for the house dressing which was a delightful sweet onion. We also had some yummy potatoes cooked in a sauce with peppers and onions and an order of tasty crunchy onion rings. We were quite satisfied but curious about desert and we were both glad we didn't pass it up. I had the lemon Italian cream cake which was so light and fluffy- just dreamy! My husband opted for the turtle cheesecake which was rich and delicious. Our waitress was a doll and kept our glasses full. My wife was raised in Baton Rogue and New Orleans. It took a lot for me to convince her to try Boudreaux's. People around town had told me its owners were from Louisiana, I kept on that point, and she eventually agreed reluctantly. I scored major husband points that day because she loved it. Any time I suggest we go for lunch at Boudreaux's, there is no more convincing. Is it as good as the food we had when we went to Louisiana to visit her mother? Sorry would have given more stars but this visit only rates this. This is about my 5th time going there and would have rated it higher with pervious times. This time the meal just was not up to par for me. The boudin balls had that freezer taste to them and I know if you made your own boudin (& maybe you do) you could make a fresher product. Also the crab cakes were toooo salty and had way too much bread and not enough crab. Sorry those are the cons the pros is that the crawfish etouffee and fried crawfish was very good. I prefer a bit more Tony's on mine but overall it was fine. Just to let you know I grew up in New Iberia and we have our own way of doing things. First time here! the fried Alligator was excellent. We order shrimp/crayfish po-boys and those were good as well. The Cajun mashed potatoes I ordered with mine were great! Tonight I am trying a deep dish chef's creation "Boudreaux's Angel Hair Pasta with chicken an sausage. The staff are very friendly and attentive. Have eaten here many times, both dine in and carry out and have always LOVED the food, however suddenly today tried to order takeout and this rude person who answered the phone named Michaela bluntly replied "we're not doing carry out right now" with no more explanation. Well here's a little more explanation for you Michaela and management as to why at this point I prefer takeout. While delicious, your restaurant has several disadvantages. You have the shittiest parking situation of any restaurant in the city and in a neighborhood I'd rather not even leave my car unattended. It's a toss up between accepting a ticket or having your car potentially stolen. The wait is always terrible just to be seated and it's so loud in the restaurant you can't carry on a conversation with the people you're trying to dine with. Then it takes forever to get your food. And Heaven forbid you have to use the restroom because they are DISGUSTING. I'd prefer not to catch Syphillis with dinner, thanks. Tonight you missed out on around a $200 carry-out order. What's ironic and funny to me is as I was writing this I was thinking how the opposite is true of my other favorite local restaurant, Barbosa's and then I remembered they just beat you in the Best Of St Joe contest for Best Local Restaurant. No wonder. I'll be taking my business there instead. Grew up in Louisiana, graduate of LSU, grad school in New Orleans. This was very, very good. My wife had the grilled shrimp with Veracruz sauce. I had the stuffed red snapper. Both were excellent. Even the coffee was good. Only thing they missed was that the baked potato was "old".--had been hanging around the warmer for a while. If I ever come back to St. Joe, MO, I'll eat here again. read more

Well I have been here before and enjoyed the food and atmosphere, however, after a game at the Civic Arena, they were not equipped to handle a full restaurant. We were a table of 8, and were seated without a wait. After waiting 30 minutes to even see a wait person for a drink order, we left without seeing a single server. Very poor service. I would expect a restaurant to know of events happening around them and to plan accordingly. Not sure if I will go back. read more
