So disappointed!!! The first time we ate here it was fantastic. The last 2 times were so very disappointing. We waited 45 minutes for our food. The "gravy" served with the alligator bites tasted like milk, we were served beer in hot mugs and when we mentioned it to our server he said they must have taken them straight out of the dishwasher. That was obvious!! The fried seafood platter was served cold and the chicken creole tasted like tomato soup. Sadly we paid $75 for a very disappointing meal and we will go to Jazz in Kansas City the next time we want cajun food. read more

I love Cajun food and cook it often myself. Driving cross country just had to stop at there. The building itself is full of history and beautifully restored. Got there late afternoon and only one server. Poor thing had a half dozen tables but she worked them and got everyone taken care of. I had the crawfish po boy and onion rings. Very tasty. Hubby had a shrimp po boy, also really good. The hit was the warm pecan pie. Be still my beating heart, that was the most amazing pie I ever had. Thank goodness we split it because it was so rich. Food is good. I love the blackened shrimp fettuccine Alfredo! Alligator is always good AND I'm obsessed with the GRAVY! I haven't heard anyone ever say anything bad about a meal they have had here except my friend had a lot of bones in his salmon once. Some of the entree's are somewhat small for the price. Visited while in St. Joe on business. It was very good. Nice atmosphere, great server and reasonable prices. I had two beers and the deluxe jambalaya an my bill without tip was just shy of $25. It was quite a journey to get here around the construction and funky Missouri roads (from my hotel) but it was well worth it! I ordered the broiled seafood platter (shrimp, crab cakes, oysters, and crawfish tails) with a Makers Mark on the rocks. The meal was amazing! I could eat myself sick here! Last time I did that, I was in Louisiana! I sat at the bar and was served by bartender, Erasmo L. He's a great server/bartender and he's got a neat trick that encouraged me to tip more! My food was great. The shrimp and rice were cooked and seasoned perfectly. My wife said that her shrimp po boy was very tasty. The atmosphere of the place is unique, and very cool. The problem I had on this night is that I paid 45 dollars, and both my wife and I left still hungry after and appeziter and dinner. For the price of the menu items, the portions are just not there. We had onion rings for appetizer and we recieved 8 string like onion rings, no dipping sauce. We then ordered our meal, and both of us expected a bread basket with our order, but we never got it. Looking around the restaurant, everyone else had bread. I plates then arrived and I had 6 shrimp on half a cup of rice. Like I said, very good taste, loved the seasoning.... JUST GIVE ME SOME FOOD!! I ate at Boudreaux's for the first time yesterday for lunch. My only complaint is that they no longer serve the swordfish steak which is still on the menu. No worries though, I ordered the snapper stuffed with crabmeat which was fantastic! This was served with a side of vegetables that were, well, vegetably! Nothing special there but then again I wasn't at Boudreaux's for the vegetables. The service was decent and the atmosphere was pretty cool. This place filled up quick for lunch so make sure you get there early. We got their Bar Trash dish with shrimp and crab in a blackened seasoning. The sauce didn't do much and I thought the dish was missing something,. I got their fried shrimp Po boy which was pretty good. The bread was hot with a good crust and soft interior. It came with a little bit off lettuce and tomato and I asked for the tiger sauce which reminded me of a horse radish sauce. Their fries and onion rings were good too! Having lived in New Orleans for a good portion of my 20s, I was surprised at how authentic the faire was here. It's truly a Cajun experience! I had the alligator meat, which was very tasty, especially with the heavy cream gravy it is served with. The gumbo lacked just a bit of the spice I am accustomed to, but I'm sure it is seasoned to the tastes of the regulars. That being said, it was still very flavorful, and something I will have again. Looking at the menu makes me want to try many other items, and we plan to return very soon. read more

Today, this place was packed for lunch! If you've eaten here before, you know why! If not, let me tell you. I had the fried alligator which was a great appetizer. Then, I had the Cajun Chicken Po Boy with the 1/2 and 1/2 homemade fries and onion rings for my meal. My friend had the shrimp and chicken gumbo. We thoroughly enjoyed it. The waitress was super busy but she managed to keep out glasses full. If you are visiting St. Joseph, you need to have lunch or dinner here. I've eaten here many times. Other items on the menu that are worth trying include Crab Bisque, Jambalaya, étouffée, any of the Po Boy sandwiches and even the Country Fried Steak for those who do not like Cajan cuisine. I have eaten at Boudreax's many times now. And Ok. As a Cajun restaurant, in my book it gets a C/C- but as a restaurant in general it's pretty pleasant experience. I think the menu is overpriced and for crying out loud, what self respecting Cajun restaurant wouldn't have Muffaletta on the menu? Nearly everything I have ever had there is way too salty. If I had to recommend something "Cajun" on the menu then I would go with the Chicken Po'boy, although it's not like the Po'boys I have had in New Orleans. I always order the fried pickles which are tasty but can't possibly be finished they are so salty. The fries are also really good. What's good? Well, I keep going back, so there must be something. The atmosphere is tops, it's well lit and the service is pretty good. People watching on Saturday night is a great activity. The bar is large, and it's always a great place to bide your time in the event that you have to wait for a table. It's probably the most lively restaurant going downtown so if you are in town it's definitely worth checking out. read more

Over-all pleased, but got there when it was busy and dining service seemed dis-organized. Waited nearly 15 minutes for a waitress while some employee flirted with the hostess just inside the door. Someone needs to organize the service help. Had the jombalaya, (sp?) and it was very good, wife had dirty rice and blackened chicken. Chicken was very good, but rice was over-cooked (soggy) and slightly over-seasoned. Still was good experience. Oh yeah, smoking is allowed at the bar (which is right in the dining room), so yeah, you get to smell cig. smoke with your food. For me that's a really big turn OFF. Had to give it an over-all A-OK on account of the cig. smoking. A little pricey also, but would have felt it was worth it if not for the smoking. read more

Boudreaux's is located in downtown St. Joe in a wonderful old building. I had the Etoufee and found it to be OK, same with the Jambalya my daughter had. I say OK because I expect Cajun food to have flavor that will smack you, our two dishes we found to be quite bland. My wife had the Lobster Scampi and the Lobster had no flavor to it. If you hadn't read the menu you would not have known it was suppose to be Lobster. We ordered desert and I had the bread pudding, and it once again was lacking flavor and the sauce on it was a thick gelatinous mess. read more

I rarely send food back but this wasn't even edible. I tell the waiter I'm not eating this because it's burnt. He's said no it's blackened! Nope, it's burnt. I know the difference. It's smells burnt and tastes burnt and it's hard! The manager comes over and I explain the situation to her. She tells me she'll remove it from the bill. She doesn't apologize or offer me anything else. The waiter comes over later and offers me something else but I'm way done with him at this point. Don't eat here! Bad service and bad food. read more

Everything from the pasta to the jambalaya to the gumbo is surprisingly authentic for the area and tasty. They actually have a solid beer menu as well.
