But Boudreaux's is a little slice of Calle de Bourbon that floated up river and landed in St. Joe! My brother and I were in town for the airshow. Upon checking into the hotel the clerk recommended we try eating here. We are so glad she did, because this place was awesome! We were quickly seated and greeted in a friendly way. Our server was quick with the menus and drink orders. We ordered a few appetizers and were hooked from there! We ordered more and never made it to a main course. The food was quick, hot and full of flavor. My favorite being the gumbo soup. Our server was quick, friendly and full of knowledge on the food, the beer and the town. We were pleased that he pushed the local foods, brewery, and sights. I had high hopes for this place which may be why I was disappointed. I sat at the bar so that may be why I felt the service was less than stellar, actually it was down right upsetting. I waited for a drink, when I asked about a special advertised on a chalk board the wait staff did not know about it and after checking on the board said that drink was normal price, so I ordered something else. When he finally came around to take my order I asked for the crayfish poor boy blackened. I found it dry and not very flavorful. The onion rings were just Ok not anything special and the fries were not that good. They did have lots to choose from on the menu so perhaps I just had a bad selection. At least I hope that is what it was because the place was full on a Saturday night. The place was clean and bright but a little loud. We came here for a wedding rehearsal dinner with maybe 30 attendees. We had a room to ourselves with one waitress/bartender and she could not have been any better. She was absolutely awesome. Disappointment on a large scale here. I am all for cutting restaurants' slack as they have different Covid procedures they are trying to work around. Therefore, Boudreaux's really doesn't get any slack. Apparently, the folks in St. Joseph don't require social distancing or mask wearing. All tables are being seated and no one, and I mean no one, was wearing a mask except our table. They were pretty full by the time we left Saturday night. The food? The standout item - the Cajun mac & cheese side. It was seriously delicious and had an impressive smoky flavor. The good- The bar trash appetizer of Cajun seasoned crab meat and shrimp. The absolutely overpriced, mediocre- The 12 ounce Boudreaux's house specialty ribeye. Around $24.00 for a thin super fatty, (even for a ribeye) steak. Mine was this way and another person in my party of four who ordered it described his as 'greasy.' The BBQ salmon had something similar to a tomato salsa on top of it. The 'Cajun mashed potatoes' were so thin, they could be poured. I'm thinking perhaps instant mashed potatoes with too much liquid but didn't have time to set up? The court bullion liquid served with a friends pork chop was, "way too salty." This from a person who said she really liked salt. The sweet onion house salad dressing was nothing special either. I will mention, a friend ordered a salad with blue cheese dressing. I was impressed it had blue cheese crumbles in it. I don't know how it tasted, but appreciate the fact they didn't just stir a few pieces of blue cheese into ranch dressing. The service was Ok. He got our food to us accurately but didn't follow up. We all had an alcoholic drink and they were fine. Not standouts but not awful either. Don't see us going back anytime soon. read more

We were passing through St. Joe today on our way to Loess Bluffs and we decided to give Boudreaux's a try. So glad we did! It was delightful. We had a party of 6, which included one slightly crabby and indecisive 13 year old. Our server was a champ! He was quick and friendly while responding to all our questions and requests. Our glasses never ran empty and our food was brought out promptly. I ordered the fried alligator po'boy with onion rings. Both were delicious. The onion rings were actually homemade instead of being the typical food service ones they prepare from frozen. They are now at the top of my list for perfect onion rings. The rest of the family had blackened chicken sliders, fried catfish, crawfish etouffee, and shrimp etouffee. Everyone cleaned their plates. We also discovered that their house salad dressing is magic. We bought two mason jars full of it to bring back home. I wish we had more reasons to head to St. Joe! While visiting Saint Joseph, my brother and sister-in-love treated us to dinner at Boudreaux's Louisiana Restaurant. We started the night with fried alligator, onion rings, crab dip, and oysters on the half shell. The alligator was coated in a light tempura flour base, that was fried perfectly. The meat inside was light and tasty. The onion rings were fried in a flour tempura base. What I liked about these rings, was that you didn't have to fight between getting a mouthful of onion or coating, you got both. Take a bite and your mouth is filled with the sweet flavor of onion and delicate crispy coating. The crab dip was made with real crab and tossed in a creamy cheese and chopped onions base that was served with a side of tortilla chips. I ordered the 1/2 blackened shrimp po boy combo, with sauteed veggies and I am glad I did. The 1/2 sandwich was the size of a normal sandwich. The shrimp was blackened and seared, topped with lettuce and this tangy luxurious cajun sauce, it was sublime. The sauteed veggies were a bit over cooked and lacked flavor. Service was standard fair. For us, there is something special about buildings that hold alot of history, and meets all the modern conventionsif today. Even though this building is an old converted wearhouse built in the 1800's, the exterior still has the feels of an old time saloon. Once you walk in you get this sense of the old west converging with the lively eatery of today. The unique feature of this establishment is the old saloon bar from the old west days, complete with a bullet hole. If you get a chance, stop in and pop a squat! read more

We saw the listing while traveling on our way home to Florida and stopped. It was wonderful! We ate at lunchtime on a Tuesday and it was busy but we got seated immediately. Since we can't be in NOLA these days this is a wonderful substitute! We had seafood gumbo, their barbites appetizer and a oyster po'boy. Topped it off with the bourbon pecan pie with ice cream. Yum! I'm really torn between 1 or 2 stars... So it's 1 Star for service and 2 for food. We came here after the Chiefs training camp on a Saturday around 12:30pm. It's abundantly clear they were not expecting or prepared for a large rush. When we arrived a lady at the hostess stand asked how many in our party, we said 5. I also told her a 4-top would work because I saw 4 of those open. Our young daughter could sit on a corner. She rushed off looking for a table (I have to note here, she never returned). A group of 3 came in behind us and then 2 more groups of 3, about 2-3 minutes apart. After we all stood there for 10-12 minutes a different hostess (which I later found out to be the manager) came and asked all of us how many were in our groups. A large table opened up when a couple just left. Perfect for us! Nope. The manager sat the group of 3 that came in behind us at that large table...(When she took them first, I assumed she was seating them at one of the open 4-tops, I was wrong). She was about to sit the next group of 3 when they pointed to us and said we were first. When we told her 5 people, again, she said "well there's just no tables". She was very snotty about it. At this point we have been standing there for about 15 minutes with open tables still available. They put 2 tables together and got is seated. After 5-6 minutes a server stopped by and asked if we'd been helped. We had not, so she took our drinks and a single appetizer order. It was alligator bites, which being a fried item is usually quick to get out...I was wrong again. We were extremely hungry after not eating all day at camp. So after 40 minutes of waiting, we asked if the bites were coming soon. Her response was "oh yeah, they should be". After another 6-7 minutes, a pathetic sized sampling of alligator bites did arrive. We had asked for a kids menu as well. Twice. And after we ordered, the lady manager walked by and threw it on our table. Distasteful. Roughly 1 hour and 30 minutes after we placed our order, our meals arrived. Now this is were the 1 or 2 stars is my issues. On one hand, almost every single thing we ordered was cold. Our daughters chicken strips and french fries, my wife's pork tenderloin, my sons lobster scampi (was fridge cold actually) and every thing on my seafood sampler was cold. Our other sons shrimp fettuccine was hot - it was the only thing that was. But on the other hand, 95% of our food was so good we didn't care that it was cold. We ate it anyway. All of it. Except for the lobster scampi. The lobster pieces were over cooked and rubbery. Rubbery, combined with its cold temperature, rendered it inedible. No one ever asked if the meal was good. I certainly would have made them aware of a few things. The only thing they were quick to do here was bring our ticket half way through eating our meal. Side note: I watched a table get seated beside us and they asked 2 passing servers if they could grab their server so they could order drinks. About 15 mins later they asked for a manger. This is how I found out the hostess was the manager. She came over and was snotty to them as well. Unsympathetic and snotty, not good. She should have been much more polite because that table was using a lot of patience in simply asking for some waters. I'd really like to come back sometime to experience this food when it's "hot off the grill". But as long as that manager is working there, I doubt that I'd even give it a second chance. Edit - I just realized I didn't get my oysters with my seafood platter. And my wife reminded me, they ran out of ice so all our drinks were room temp. Downgraded to 1 star read more

We were in St. Joseph for a visit (a couple of them darn tourists!). We were both amazingly happy that we came across this restaurant and decided this was where we decided to eat. It was BUSY that night, and considering that, service was good. We were told that it was going to be about 45 minutes before a table would be open. Since we didn't want to wait, we ate at the bar. After placing orders, it did take a little too long for our food arrive, but again, considering how the place was full and probably 100+ meals were being prepared, I ain't gonna complain. You also need to consider the virus and how difficult it is to hire employees right now (including cooks). I eventually received the Blackened Stuffed Shrimp that I ordered and she got the Fried Stuffed Shrimp. They were both excellent. We will definitely be back here again! read more

Got the gator bites...half the size they used to be and came out cold...i ordered the seafood saute and he ordered the super jambalaya as usual. ..mine came out luke warm..no flavor..aso I was supposed to choose a side item and then as I ordered he said what salad dressing so you want? Well if that's the only option then take you get to pick a side off your menu then! His jambalaya for a dinner portion was the old lunch portion but still at the same dinner price if not more...diet dr pepper was flat and our waiter was more interested in the young people and bigger table...we will not be back anytime soon! Wonderful find in the sleepy town of St. Joseph! Historical building, beautiful old bar from the 1800's, great service (Kasey was a wonderful waiter!), and the food! We started with Boudin Balls that arrived hot and crispy with tasty dipping sauces. We shared a shrimp PO'boy, seafood mashed potatoes (WHAT??? ), Seafood CourtBouiilion (pronounced: coo-boo-yon in Cajun!), and Cajun potatoes all delicious and Cajun spicy and washed down with freshly brewed sweet tea!!! After a bit of relaxing after the meal, we shared a piece of Kentucky Bourbon Pecan Pie that was so very nice with a cake like crust and whipped cream top! Would we return? In a heartbeat!!!!!
