This was my first cajun experience and I really enjoyed the food!! The service was great as well! We actaully ate here twice while we were here on vacation in St. Joseph, Missouri! Absolutely loved the hushpuppies! My husband had always spoken about them and I was so excited to try them! Yummy in my tummy!! For dinner I had the Chicken and Sausage Jambalaya and cajun mashed potatoes. Both very good! I had the same dish the second time we came as well! My husband had the Seafood Jambalaya with Dirty Rice the first night and had the Chicken and Sausage Jambalaya the second time with Cajun Mac & Cheese. He wished they gave a little more of the mac & cheese he said there wasn't much to it and you had to pay an upgrade fee for that. We definitely enjoyed it! From the moment I walked in the door I felt like I was back in New Orleans the place had the feelof New Orleans. It has a beautiful open dining room with beautiful, beautiful decorations. It feels very New Orleans the bar is absolutely beautiful with the 1880s type decoration that you were found in New Orleans Stainglass wide open bar the service upon entering I was greeted and seated efficiently, given a chance to look over a beautiful menu And the service was amazing. I had worries that the food would not be as good being from Texas have yet to find a Mexican restaurant outside of Texas or a barbecue restaurant outside of Texas. That is amazing but I thought why not give this place a try. It is a New Orleans Cajun Creole restaurant, outside of Louisiana in Missouri, but the food is amazing. This place is absolutely gorgeous! My coworker took me and our vendor here for lunch. It reminds me of Jazz Louisiana Kitchen but the ambiance is much nicer! We came around Christmas - don't judge me because this review is way past the actual visit. It was so beautifully decorated. The special I had was grilled trout with dirty rice and a ridiculously delicious sauce made of browned butter. I could have eaten a gallon of just that sauce! I'm going to admit that St. Joseph is no Kansas City or Johnson County, but this restaurant is a true gem. This is one you do not want to miss! read more

This place is a gem in a neat little historic river town. The menu has lots of variety. The drink menu is also very nice with some local drafts on tap. We were there on a Saturday night and had about a 20 minute wait. They were super busy. We did have to wait an extra long time for our food, but it was delicious. We got the pork chops, blackened tacos and Cajun burrito. Everything was very tasty. The prices are super reasonable and the portions are large. The environment and ambience are also very nice, but a little noisy and laid back! Definitely recommend! Would have given 5 stars if food service was faster! read more

After eating there, my wife got terribly ill. Food was served cold. One of the worst restaurants in St Joseph. Don't eat there.

The fries were really good, but DO NOT TRY THE seafood platter w/ blackened. It's so plain. It was so plain that I had to trade dishes with my friend, like damn. But if it's not, then it's good, the chicken was good, my sister said. So over all it was pretty good, the service wasn't slow for how busy it was that was good, we also got some "chicken" soup. but they use the chicken soup, but instead of having the chicken, they accidentally added the shrimp, but it was still really good. Came to celebrate my dad's birthday. We all had something different two pasta dishes, and a huge fried platter of seafood. The pasta dish I had was kind of like a fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp, but the sauce was spicy. I did not care for the shrimp to have the tails on still, so that made for kind of a messy eating experience. The garlic bread side dish was basically a hotdog bun coated in garlic butter, and toasted. my dad had a bowl of gumbo and he said it was only all right. kind of bland for him. The restaurant was a very fancy place and kind of pricey but you're paying for seafood in the middle of the country. Good place to take a date. read more

Every time we come to St Joes, we stop at Boudreaux's! Set in downtown, you get some views of beautiful architecture before walking inside. Once inside, the place is decorated with the fun colors of Louisiana/New Orleans during Mardi Gras! The service is always welcoming & prompt, even when they're busy. The food is delectable; we've never had anything we didn't like. This time they were out of the oysters, which is the one thing I was looking forward to, hence the 4 stars. In our travels across country, we found this little gem on Yelp. Good Cajun is hard to come by where we're from so we veered off our path slightly to give it a go. If you're a lover of Cajun, this is a go to. The place was packed and lined up out the door which is always a good sign. So we were pleasantly surprised to be ushered in rather quickly. My husband ordered Crawfish étouffée with deep fried crawfish tails with a side of Cajun Pasta. Hubby had a smile on his face throughout. I ordered the grilled chicken salad, I know, it doesn't sound very Cajun however the chicken was seasoned just so for my taste. I too was very content. We were not disappointed. The staff were movin' and shakin' in their service. Fast paced and on it. To top the evening off, our meal was reasonably priced. As for ambience, If you're looking for a quiet intimate dinner, not happening here. The surroundings were happy chatter, laughter and lots of contented smiles. The food here is actually pretty good. So, I'll start with that. I have had their chicken fried chicken, which is phenomenal - as well as their Mahi-mahi. Oysters on the half shell were delightful and their bloody marys are incredible and quite ornate. We've never had to wait too long for the food and so far, there's been no errors in our order. The atmosphere of this place is incredible. It's a beautiful old building in downtown St. Joe and although a bit noisy, it doesn't bother me. Now, I'll get to the reason for 3 stars. Our server was not happy to be working. I've seen this same person work as a hostess (during my first visit) and she seriously has a sour disposition. If you request anything, she gives you the feeling that you're putting her out. I took away 2 stars for that reason alone. I've been to Boudreaux's many times. What I have learned is there are certain dishes that are great and others... not so much. I love to bring visitors to this local place, because you aren't going to have the opportunity any other time, unless you're visiting good ole St. Joe. First, the good. I highly recommend the following dishes: Pescado Con Queso: I like the fish grilled because the edges get crispy, then it's smothered in a creamy, cheesy, ooey gooey white sauce with tri-colored bell pepper strips = seriously the Best Thing On The Menu! Boudin Balls: get them fried. They are positively delightful. Served with tartar sauce (which is ok) and cocktail sauce (not sure why). Crab Bisque: do not miss this if you love crab bisque. It's amazing. It's rich, thick, hearty, and super filling. My hubby gets it every time. Pearl Diver Martini: yum, yum, yum! If you like Midori (bright green melon flavored liquor), it's amazing. Cajun Mashed Potatoes: kind of spicy and addictive. Pretty good. Dirty Rice: decent side dish! Salmon: they grill salmon fairly good. Jambalaya: was decent. Not my fav but solid performance. And now for the BAD: Crab Cakes: for the love of seafood, avoid these in every format. Broiled is horrendous lumps of tasteless mush. Fried is not much better. Just. Don't. Do. It. I always try to talk folks out of these, if possible, because they are just plain gross. Side salad: people don't eat lettuce in N'orleans. It's like the law or something. Don't do it here either because it has been somewhat warm and limp more times than not for me. If you want to eat healthy, go somewhere else. Splurge on tasty food when you are here instead. read more

Spent well over an hour on dinner. We arrived shortly after 5 PM and left at 6:30. just tow of us. Started off good with a beer and the cajun smothered fries. That was really good, although the andouille sausage was rather more like kielbasa in flavor. Then my wife had a po boy sandwich and I had a combination plate. po boy was cold by the time we got it, and my seafood combination was ok but it was just a heap of stuff. The shrimp were ok but the crawfish must have been the tiny shrimp-like things. Then underneath was a crab cake, fried fish and an oyster I think. It was kind of hard to determine what was what in the heap. it was plenty of food for me but not good quality. My side of vegetables was pretty good however.Over all, it was ok but it should not have taken an hour and a half. Neat old building if that matters. read more

This place serves great authentic style New Orleans food. I travel to New Orleans several times a year for work, and I know the food there very well. What a nice surprise to find a restaurant in St. Joseph serving up that same deliciousness! I went in for a late lunch at 3 pm on Wednesday. I was immediately greeted by Jonathan, who also was my server. I chose the Crawfish Po Boy with French fries, and a glass of iced tea. The Po Boy was overstuffed with Fried crawdad tails and the sandwich was dressed with lettuce, tomato and their home made sauce. The Po Boy was outstanding. Jonathan was a terrific server. He did a great job of checking up to see if I needed anything and always kept my iced tea glass full. Next time I come through this way, I will be sure to dine here again. read more

This is a pretty great find in the food desert that is St Joe. Our service was a little meh. But the food was darn tasty. It may not have been the freshest of fresh seafood, but it still tasted great. All of the shrimp dishes were a hit with our table. As were the fried alligator bites - yum! The ambiance and decor is quite cool and unique. As a huge NOLA fan and creole/cajun food fan, I felt like was back in The Big Easy. We're four ladies visiting St Joe on a Thursday evening and WOW were we ever lucky to find this jewel! Food was fantastic and our waiter was the best I've ever had. We were seated at the back wall where pictures of the restaurant's history hung. Our waiter gave us a quick tour of the wall and told us where to look for the bullet hole in the bar. I have had lows and highs here. A note on the highs- anything fried will be a high. Anytime I have deviated from my usual has been a low. The fried gator appetizer is amazing, and is served with "gravy" , which isn't like gravy at all , but a buttery , cream sauce. I used it on everything!! So good. The seafood platter is so good, and features crab cakes, stuffed soft shell crab, crawfish, catfish, and oysters. The stuffed crab - provers with caution, or maybe don't order at all. The bits of shell made it inedible. Everything else was lightly battered and seasoned. The lows have featured any of their pasta dishes, or "blackened" items. Just not enough flavoring or Cajun vibes to reorder. Expect to wait for extended periods of time for a table. I am not sure where the wait factors in , whether in turnover or kitchen slowness, but it's an issue. read more
