Joe R was our server and did a grand job. He is a perfect combination of attentiveness, personality and efficiency. Two ribeyes perfectly cooked to order (and presented) for our guests, the Black Drum for Deb and the Shrimp and Crab Enchiladas for me. Definitely make a reservation and specify in comments that you'd like to be on the river walk. We did and got a wonderful seat right on the river walk albeit at the end of the row of tables almost where the next restaurant begins, which is The Original Mexican Restaurant. The only problem with sitting on the river is the male Hispanic Rio tour boats drivers all make the same comment when they drive by. They must have it in their gag book or learned from each other. When they drive by they always talk about all the restaurants in this particular area touting how they got everything here, Mexican and then as they drive by "and over there is Chinese Mexican". I mean, by the 6th time it was just kinda annoying. Anyway, the food here was really good. Their prime rib is not like your standard thick cut medium rare prime rib. It's a regular steak. The blackened version is their premiere steak. But we passed. Their shrimp and grits is their most famous dish. I tried it and it was fantastic (and I don't even care for grits) The ribeye was also good. Slightly overdone for medium rare unfortunately m. But good albeit tough to cut as a result. Our waiter never stopped by for a water refill or to ask how the meal was so we had to flag down someone for the water and a steak knife which came when we were almost done eating unfortunately. A bit sad when you're tipping $20 for never coming by. He didn't even bring out the food. But he did do the guac. About the guac. Tableside guacamole is pretty good. But it'll fill you up fast. Food did not live up to the price. $21 for guacamole with one avocado -- good but not worth it. $15 for meh soup. $39 for fish, mashed potatoes, and plain veggies. The mashed potatoes were the best part because they put some kind of seasoning on them. The rest of the entree was pretty bland. $12 for a canned beer. $22 for polenta and mushrooms (it was good, but not for the portion). We chose this restaurant for our anniversary dinner. They made us feel special by bringing out champagne right away. We were blown away by the service. I wish I remembered our servers name because she was so friendly, helpful, and we all felt like friends by the end! We loved being able to watch all the people by the river on the patio area. We started with the famous table side guacamole and it really was memorable. I got the herb crusted drum fish and my boyfriend got the shrimp and grits. Both were excellent and came out quickly. Amex Resy credit brought us here but the food and service will make us return. The staff was so friendly. Our waiter took great care of us. He recommended the margarita and it was all tequila and the perfect start to our dinner date. The fresh bread is a nice compliment. There is plenty of space inside and out. If you want a nice view of the river walk, then outdoors is the place to be. But I live locally and being outside in July is not my jam. On to the food....the shrimp and grits is the best I've ever had ANYWHERE. No lie...the flavors were impeccable. I still can't quite put my finger on the sauce but it was amazing! I was so excited to eat here after reading numerous reviews but I did not enjoy this meal at all. I made a reservation so thankfully we did not have to wait. The inside of the restaurant has a smell, the service was terrible (she didn't take half of the table's drink orders/never greeted us or introduced herself/taking orders like it was McDonald's), and the food was just not good. It tasted like it was cooked in The Riverwalk water. I expected more for the price. The only thing I actually enjoyed was the table side guacamole. Will not be back and do not recommend. The soup never arrived, but we didn't say anything because the prime rib with fries and veg looked like plenty of food for us. Came here for dinner, very busy on a Friday night. The server barely came to check in on us, and he forgot to put in one of our mains, so we had to call another server over and ask if it had been put in. However, the food was very good. The only thing I didn't like a lot was that the salmon was too charred, making it slightly bitter, and the fish fillet (we were told it was kampachi) was quite salty. I always feel very badly when I don't do a review of such an excellent restaurant and frankly Boudro's is an example of an exceptional restaurant. Firstly, the ambience is incredible. We were right on the river walk, but walked through the entire restaurant on our way to be seated and every bit of it is as lovely as where we ended up sitting. The Riverwalk, however, is a people watching place and so there really isn't any place in this particular restaurant which is not gonna be pleasant. Secondly, the service is exceptional. This is a very busy place. However, the waiter was simply incredible. Very attentive, very informative quite humorous. He was frankly part of the river walk entertainment. Extremely accommodating and instructive as well. You can't hope for much more from a server in Restaurant than this activity. The food is really quite good. How are the drinks. Extremely dependable and the portions are generous and equally wonderful. There are many places to dine in San Antonio. However, this is an experience not to be missed and I mean that quite sincerely. I'd definitely recommend making a reservation because it gets busy fast. The prices are on the higher side, and my husband felt his Old Fashioned was a bit watered down compared to similar drinks we've had at other restaurants. On the plus side, our server was friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome throughout the meal. We ordered the pork tenderloin, ribeye, and shrimp and grits with a creamy gravy sauce. Every single dish was delicious. I'm pretty picky when it comes to steak, but the ribeye really impressed me: it was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. The shrimp and grits were another standout. The creamy sauce was rich and incredibly tasty, with just a hint of spice that added flavor without being overwhelming. As someone who doesn't enjoy very spicy food, I thought it was just right. Our trip to Boudro's was fantastic. The inside was like a wine cellar feel. It was so clean. You could smell that staff took time to ensure the place was clean. Besides something swimming in our water and the waiter only putting more ice. The duck gumbo was FANTASTIC! I'm a gumbo snob and it was delicious. No notes. Then I had the blackened fish which was also amazing. The potatoes could have been cooked harder and the spinach a little longer. I would definitely come back here. Leaving Bandera, Texas and heading to Austin-Bergstrom Airport, I had just a couple hours to show my sister-in-law the San Antonio Riverwalk. We found this spot with easy river access, and it exceeded every expectation. The staff was unbelievably friendly from the moment we arrived. Parking was a block away ($25 for two hours), and the elevator down to the restaurant was easy to find. We got a beautiful table right on the river and enjoyed drinks and appetizers. The tableside guacamole was hands-down the best I've ever had, and the shrimp cocktail served in a cucumber boat with sauces right in the boat was both creative and delicious. From start to finish, the staff treated us like VIPs--even guiding us back to the elevator when we left. Amazing food, stunning view, and incredible service, definitely a must-visit on the Riverwalk! Now to start, this is on the Riverwalk, so of course its busy with tourists and if you sit on the water's edge like we did, you'll have a constant stream of humanity walking by you. Great for people watching, bad for a private dinner. We didnt mind and enjoyed watching all the different people walking by or taking the boat tour. We had reservations and luckily did get the water side table. Which was great for the reasons mentioned above, however it did mean slightly delayed service as our waiter, Tracey J, was running from the water to the kitchen and seemed to have a section that spanned the entire dining area. You can tell he was hustling, so nothing bad to say about him, Im sure its not his fault he was tasked with such a disparate area. We started with the tomato salad, which was fantastic and she got the double rib pork chop and I got the grilled prime rib. We honestly should have just shared one entree, these are true Texas sized portions! I cant decide which one I liked more, the sauce on the pork chop was amazing and my prime rib was cooked perfectly. Even the grilled veggies that came with both were delicious! They cant validate for the parking structure across the street, which isnt their fault since it's now a private structure, so expect to pay $20-$30 for parking which is about the going rate for the Riverwalk on a Friday. This is our first time in San Antonio and we happened upon Boudros. We sat outside right on the river. They have a beautiful indoor dining room as well. Our server was attentive and informative and made some delicious table-side guacamole. My husband and I got the shrimp and crab enchiladas and the blackened fish. Both were terrific. We had dinner at Boudro's because it came so highly recommended on Yelp. We got a table outside and it was very nice and our service was amazing from Drew. The guacamole tableside was good, but not a huge portion. I ordered the filet and my husband ordered the blackened prime rib. I ordered my filet medium and it came very rare so they took it back and brought a second one out that was just as rare. I ended up not eating an entrée for dinner and just ate the sides. My husband said his blackened prime rib was decent, but it was rather thin and they had butter on top of it, which did not even melt because it was not very hot when he received it. They did comp my steak and offered a free dessert because of what happened. If we lived in San Antonio, I think we would give them a second chance. read more

When we arrived we were told they try to give prime seating to those with reservations, so even if you aren't sure you'll need one I suggest snagging one! We enjoyed the table side guacamole, the crab and shrimp enchilada plate, & prickly pear margaritas. We were in town for an event and decided to check out the Riverwalk. It was still early, around 4pm and there were not many people around. We stumbled upon Boudro's which looked like a great spot. However, being right in the water, we didn't want to sit where thousands of people would be walking by in a short time. We spotted the Boudro's terrace Bar, directly above the bistro. We went upstairs and there were several tables still available so we were able to be sat right against the railing overlooking the water. All the chairs had blankets for the chilly weather and the patio was decorated for the holidays which is a nice touch! Our server was Miguel. Miguel was very friendly and professional. He always had a smile throughout the evening. Miguel took our orders for drinks and brought out a basket of warm French bread & butter. I ordered a dirty martini and my husband ordered a red sangria. The martini was very good. Not filled to the rim but ice floats on top. The red sangria was not as good. My husband orders them frequently and he said it had a strange flavor. We shared the field mushrooms at 22.50 - with grilled baked polenta, goat cheese, Roma tomatoes and chipotle-thyme demi-glaze. These were absolutely delicious. Miguel also offered us a prickly pear margarita that someone cancelled from their order. We took it! It was very, very good and quite festive looking. We peaked down below at some of the entrees people ordered. They were plated nicely and looked delicious. We thought we would come back for dinner at some point. I would recommend Boudro's but come early if you don't have a reservation or you probably won't be seated. Boudro's is the sister restaurant of my favorite restaurant in San Antonio, Zinc Bistro. However, they sadly never reopened Zinc after the pandemic. The prickly pear margarita wasn't as good as it used to be, or the bar tender just had a bad day. It had this strong, solvent- like taste. Food was decent, price has gone up a lot since the pandemic sadly. Same dish I ordered 6 years ago had gone up $23, the surf and turf was $42 dollars 6 years ago, now $65. Crazy inflation. I absolutely loved my meal here. My bf and I split the filet and a nice salad. We each had a glass of wine, Cab for me and Sauvignon Blanc for him. We ordered the steak medium and it was cooked perfectly and tasted even better. Every bit was perfect. We got squash, zucchini, green beans and onions in the delicious sauce. It also came with a corn pudding. Our waitress was super nice and helpful and didn't make us feel silly for splitting a meal. We're not large eaters and a 10 ounce steak was plenty for us. The ambiance is nice there. Our only complaint was we were seated inside next to the moveable wall and there was a small opening where it didn't meet the wall and cold air was coming in. We were looking for dinner on Monday night and saw a staircase that led upstairs to a Terrace bar and grill. Turns out that the restaurant below also has a terrace location up above. They also have a small indoor bar up there as well. We had the pleasure of meeting Jason, our bartender who was just incredibly friendly and provided the best service while we were there. We started with basic drinks - my husband, getting an old old-fashioned and myself starting with a in-house made ranch water. The ranch water was actually really delicious and I ended up ordering another one. My husband did order another old-fashioned but this time he remembered to ask for gentleman's ice. That would be the only downfall that we saw was that his old-fashioned was served with a bunch of ice, and unfortunately, it takes away from the flavor and waters down the drink fast. We decided to have dinner there and And really enjoyed our experience. My husband got the ribeye and said that it was very delicious and really enjoyed the red wine reduction that came with it. I got their shrimp and grits and let me tell you - I cleaned that plate! The shrimp were nice and tender and the grits were steel cut grits so they're a little bit larger but the flavor was delicious and they had this nice savory kind of spicy sauce that came with it. It literally was delicious and the perfect size for dinner. We really enjoyed our experience here and would definitely come back.
