A beautiful little restaurant on the riverwalk. My daughter and I wanted a break from the heat, and this place has the perfect atmosphere. We got great seats right next to the live music, ordered dessert and didn't rush ourselves back outside. Our server was attentive and we loved dessert (which is why I forgot to take a picture before digging in). Great restaurant!

Came here after seeing all the glowing reviews and honestly, I'm not sure what I'm missing. To be fair, we sat in the bar area rather than dining room. The oysters were fine and the cocktails were decent but fairly standard. Service was good and the ambiance was nice. Would I come back? Maybe in the dining room.

Lovely place. It was decorated for the holidays. We had a table inside overlooking the Riverwalk. The service was excellent. Attentive. Helpful. The food was a mix of emotions. We started with the sticky burnt ends ... super deep flavors of a sticky, dark sauce. We had the braised ribs in grits. No knife needed ... pull apart good. The grits had a good consistency but not much flavor. The asparagus was cooked perfectly but again no flavoring other than a large amount of peppercorns. The Augratin potatoes were cooked well but drowned in cheese. The Waygu steak was amazing ... very little fat ... great seasoning ... seared well ... cooked perfectly at medium rare.

Made a reservation on a Friday night. Definitely recommend having a reservation as wait times can get up to an hour or more. It's a popular spot so plan ahead! Ambiance and service were great. It's right on the riverwalk so sitting outside was pleasant. The steak was good, but honestly the star of the show was the FRIED OYSTERS! Man I would go back JUST for those. The batter was so tasty and well seasoned, oysters were not too fishy and creamy. The fresh tomato pico de gallo like topping was the perfect fresh acid the fried dish needed. Definitely would return, and highly recommend the gulf fried oysters!

Came to celebrate my husbands birthday at Brenner's last night. Man were we impressed, the food was delicious, the service was amazing and the ambiance was spectacular. Our server was so attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu and their specials. He gave great recommendations on food as well as what drinks to pair our entrees with. The salmon was amazing and the tzatziki sauce was a nice touch to tie all the flavors of the dish together. The steak was juicy and tender, seasoned well and cooked to perfection.

We celebrated our 30th anniversary dinner at this place...and what a great choice! We decided to sit outside on their nice patio area, where we could still hear the live music from inside. We started with Bang Bang Rock Shrimp as appetizer...then my husband chose Pan Roasted Chicken, and I had the Braised Short Rib...then ended our meal with their amazing Creme Brulee in this dynamic long plate presentation. Well, each and every item was absolutely luscious...truly all-out delicious!! Even their drinks were amazing. I had 2 glasses of their Pear Blossom cocktail...and loved it! What a stellar choice for a special night in San Antonio!

Pricey....but worth it. The steaks were amazing, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the view outside of the Riverwalk was lovely. Be advised... they kinda nickel and dime you, charging you for bread, charging for refills on soft drinks, charging for designer salt service. For a great steak that is nearly as good but less extravagantly priced,, you can go across the street to their sister steakhouse, Saltgrass.

You have a lot of choices on the riverwalk, it seems big corporate names are starting to take over. I was looking for something more local. Brenner's has a beautiful dining room, white tablecloth and brick walls. This place feels like an old school steakhouse for sure. The folks choosing to sit outside on the patio were dressed pretty casually, as you went upstairs the tables seemed to get more "formal" and folks were dressed up a bit more. The wife and I split the Wagyu beef appetizer. It is served in somewhat thin slices, served raw with a hot stone so you can cook it to your desired doneness right at the table. Fancy touch for sure, they bring a variety of sauces and pickled onion. This was a fantastic appetizer and honestly I thought a good value. If you've ever wanted to try Japanese Wagyu, this is your best introduction for the price you are going to find. I also chose a lobster bisque as an appetizer. This had a very good flavor, and they didn't skimp on the lobster. Unfortunately, the lobster was in a couple big chunks. It would have been nice to have been cut up a little as it's awkward trying to cut up lobster with a spoon. I'm not going to complain too much about a big chunk of lobster though - even though I did get a piece of shell in there too. My steak was well prepared, and well seasoned. I ordered a NY Strip and was very satisfied. While I was happy with the flavor and the correct cook, I think they need to be just a little more picky with the quality of the cuts they serve. No gristle or anything like that, but a little more tough than I was hoping for and honestly a bit more of the hard/chewy fat that I'm aware you will always find on the side of a strip, but prefer some of that be trimmed. All in all, I'm just being super picky, because next time I'm in town, I'm very likely to choose Brenner's again. We had a fantastic time and I like to feel I got what I paid for. In a steakhouse, that is an exceedingly rare feeling. I felt I had a fantastic meal, excellent service and a price that seemed reasonable.

For this visit to Brenner's we went dined on their Restaurant Week Menu. I loved trying the soup and desserts but the best part was the entree. Their steaks and meat are always perfectly prepared and the service is always top notch. The restaurant offers seating upstairs and downstairs, there is even some outdoor seating overlooking the riverwalk. In addition they often have live music downstairs to add to the ambiance.

I made a reservation a few weeks ahead for Mothers day to make sure we got a seat. We arrived about 10 minutes early to our reservation and we were sat promptly. We were given the choice of seating so we chose to sit outside on the balcony since it was a perfect day. We were greeted right away by our waitress and she explained the menu to us and also gave us the specials for the day. She offered us drinks but we were not drinking that day so she offered us some mocktails and we chose the Watermelon mint troubadour! Awesome drink, great tasting and refreshing! So good we both ordered two! We ordered a few appetizers and the first to arrive was the crab cake! It was all crab and no cake! Perfectly cooked and assembled! Second to arrive was the A5 Japanese Wagyu and the HOT stone! It def grabbed the attention of the other patrons as we cooked it at the table! Once done the steak was so flavorful and tender and the pairing sauces were perfect! For entrees my wife ordered the 6 Oz. American Wagyu Filet Oscar topped which also came with asparagus, and she ordered a side of augratin potatoes. The steak was perfectly cooked and tender enough to cut with a spoon the Oscar topping tasty and all crab! The potatoes hot creamy and so cheesy! I ordered the Miso Glazed Sea Bass with wok style broccolini, and sticky rice! The fish was so thick and flakey and cooked to perfection! The sauce and veggies were sweet, smokey and just yum! We also ordered 1/2lb of the King Crab legs and they were pre-cut opened up and full of butter so delish! For dessert we took recommendation of our waitress and got the special it was a Raspberry chocolate ganache thingy that was out of this world! It was a pricey lunch but it was all so worth it for everything to be perfect for my wife's special day. We will definitely be back to try more of that amazing menu and for the awesome staff!

We decided to try Brenner's because we were tired of the typical Foods during Fiesta and were hoping for a more upscale dining experience. Unfortunately, the visit was disappointing and not worth the price. The food did not live up to our expectations, and the service was even worse. Our server was overbearing and at times borderline rude. One person in our group has mobility issues and clearly asked the sever multiple times not to be touched or assisted while transferring from their mobility device to a chair. Despite this, the server insisted on helping, ignoring the guest's repeated requests. The guest who is typically, quiet and reserved nearly yelled, I asked you not to help me. We ordered the Wagyu porterhouse, but one person in our party specifically said they didn't care for Wagyu due to its high fat content. The server questioned their preference, basically telling them what they were saying was wrong. It came across as argumentative and rude. Causing the guests at the table to feel uncomfortable. When the steak was served, that same guest was given the fattiest pieces. It felt deliberate, passive-aggressive and unnecessary. Although they chose not to make a scene, they made it clear to the others at the table they would not return to Brenner's. Why spend hundreds of dollars to be disrespected? If we were looking for intentionally poor service, we could've gone to Dick's on the Riverwalk and at least had a laugh about it. Instead, we chose what we thought would be a refined, high-end experience --and were let down. If you're on the San Antonio Riverwalk and looking for a decent steakhouse, I recommend crossing the Riverwalk to the one across from Brenner's. The food is just as good, and you won't be mistreated.

Got the burnt ends and Asperagus.

Great atmosphere. A more upscale feel and great food on the River Walk. My bartender was very friendly and spot on service.

Visited this location with my wife while vacationing at the Riverwalk for a weekend trip. This was a short walk from our hotel so can't comment on parking, but the food was top notch. I started with a Carajilo to drink. They made it table side and was quite entertaining. I then had my lobster bisque, perfectly delicious, nice and creamy with the right amount of lobster pieces. Topped it off with the 16 oz ribeye that was like butter, just melted in my mouth. My wife and I shared the Parmesan fries which were more like large potato wedges and equally delicious with a crispy outside and extremely taste sauce. My wife had the braised mole short ribs which she loved. The decor was very nice, kind of a romantic vibe and more upscale than most of the other restaurants along the Riverwalk. I will definitely be back

To start off they serve you bread with a pickled jalapeno cream cheese dip which was the chef (owner?) mother's recipe. So good. I had the lamb chops which were devine. It seems like reservations are encouraged. At every visit, the servers greeted me with water and asked for my dietary preferences. You can tell that the servers all work together as I had other servers stop by to pack up my food and refill my water. I do love how they offer to pack up my leftovers and do so very nicely. 1st visit: My server was a sweetheart, very attentive, and super nice! I made reservations for 5PM on a Friday. I was one of the first to arrive, but the restaurant quickly filled up. I opted for the Mezas De Alegria, the server brought out Tirshi, Roasted Cabbage, Steamed Red Snapper, and Olive Oil Cake! All were very tasty, my favorites being the Tirshi and Steamed Red Snapped! I also ordered the Greek Wine flight, I enjoyed the Troupis wine best! Out of all of my dining experiences, this was by far my favorite! 2nd visit: My server was also attentive and kind. This time, I didn't make a reservation, I just walked in but was able to be seated at 11AM on a Sunday. I opted the for Turkish Brunch and the Mint Limonada, and they were able to accommodate my dietary preference! Everything was good once again, my favorites were the Grilled Olive and Tomato Salad, Fire Roasted Peppers, and Shakshuka. The Mint Limonada was too sweet for my preference, I had to water it down with some water. 3rd visit: My most recent server was very sweet and kind but wasn't as attentive. I made reservations for 5PM on Friday. She got held up by a table nearby a couple of times. I tried items from the Culinaria Restaurant Week Menu (Armenian Salad, Texas Waygu Kebabs, and Local Fruit Sorbet) Everything was soo good and flavorful. I really enjoyed the Armenian Salad. The Texas Waygu Kebabs were good, but a little chewy for my preference. They were cooked about Med-Well/Well done, though I prefer my beef to be cooked Medium, but I wasn't asked about my preference. I also wasn't given a steak knife and tried to wait for my server, but she was with another table for a while. I had to use my butter knife... The Local fruit sorbet was very refreshing and a light dessert to end my evening. Overall, great experiences, flavor-packed food! I enjoy Mediterranean food, so I'll be back to try more items off their menu!

But at my age anytime you are over ground is the best occasion. I have heard it is real fancy. And it is. Do not come in Crocs and sweatpants. This is not that restaurant. It is that restaurant where you should make reservations. It is also a place that emphasizes presentation and service. We came right when it opened and we informed the hostess of our reservations. We were seated in the bar area. Once inside I was struck by its ambience. It is sleek, dark and dare say "sexy." Our server, who was extremely attentive came to our table and took our drink orders. My partner ordered an Old Fashioned and me, a Lagunitas IPA. Whilst waiting for our drinks I looked over the room. One thing I noticed was a barrier that separated the bar area and the dining room. The Social Hour is meant, to socialize. I saw couples leaning into each other. Another group were drinking martinis with a seafood tower, almost touching the ceiling. Conversations were had. Romantic glances were exchanged. It isn't a casual place like Bubba's 33 nor Texas Roadhouse. It feels like a place best suited for a date night or an anniversary. I'm wondering how the dining room area is? The Social Hour does offer some drink and small bites specials. We ordered the kabob with pineapple, brussel sprouts, and sliders. They were all pretty great. It reminded me of the same experience as in partaking in tapas. I would remiss if I didn't relay our service here, it was excellent. Our server, Holiday(I hope I spelled it right.) treated us like we were the only patrons there. I've gone to upscale restaurants where staff looks at you up and down. Or they try to size you up. This is not that place. Which was so refreshing. If this place went above and beyond my expectations why didn't I give it four stars? In my opinion I think that a place that creates an upscale experience needs to have a few beers on tap. Even places like Wing Daddy's or Chili's offers a few beers on tap. Secondly, the bar area seating feels a bit tight. I wonder when the dinner crowd arrives would you be in the lap, of someone else's conversation? I still highly recommend this place. The Social Hour area is perfect for a date or an anniversary. The service and food were both excellent. And I've never been to a place where you are given warm hand towels. It reminded me of that scene with Adam Sandler in "The Wedding Singer" minus Billy Idol.

For 73 years, The Barn Door has been more than a great restaurant; it has been an inexorable piece of San Antonio history. Last week, The Barn Door announced on Facebook that its final day of service will be Sunday, May 11th (Mother's Day). The Barn Door has been an outstanding steakhouse in the truest sense. They've never relied on gimmicks or culinary trends--they've relied on the tried-and-true flavors that have maintained a loyal clientele for decades. I'm taking about hand-cut, primal cuts of beef grilled over real mesquite, delivering that unmistakable South Texas char. I'm referring to plump, wild-caught shrimp from the Gulf Coast, the famous yeast rolls, and tubs of homemade salad dressings. If you've been there, you know how special the overall experience has been. I've read many heartfelt comments on social media asking why such a successful institution would cease operations. Well, dear reader, I have a unique insight into why. Randy Stokes has poured his heart into the restaurant, but he merely leases the building--not the land--from the Straus family. Approximately seven months ago, Mr. Straus decided to sell the dirt beneath the "Barn" to a real estate developer. The plan? To raze this historic site and erect modern condos. It's a familiar story of urban expansion, but it doesn't make the loss any easier to swallow. But before we close the door on "The Barn" forever, a glimmer of hope looms on the horizon. Randy Stokes and his team aren't necessarily hanging up their aprons for good. According to a reliable anonymous source, the team has expressed a desire to reopen The Barn Door at a new location, with eyes set currently on the city's North Side. I hope the promise of a new location comes to fruition, but even if The Barn Door closes forever, I will cherish all the wonderful memories of dining there with my parents and grandparents over the years. I will remember the ingratiating staff, the unique ambience, and the hundreds of delicious meals I've crammed down my gullet.

It's a sketchy area to walk behind the restaurant to the Speakeasy. Anyhow, I ordered the chicken fried ribeye, jalapeño twice baked potato. Now, the potato was great. I didn't care for the ribeye and didn't eat it. The salad was right out of the bag. Iceberg, shredded carrots and cabbage with 5 bagged croutons. What happened? It wasn't like that before. My cream spinach came out late, and we weren't charged for it, which was nice. My brother in laws filet was too done. He asked for medium, and it was medium well. He ate it anyway. They used to have a 6oz ladies filet, but they don't. The server wasn't perfect, but we lived. IF I return, I'll skip the salad, get the filet and potato.

Light dish. Tc double cheese burger: very strong flavors, somewhat sweet. Dense/heavy dish . Our waiter was quick and friendly. The restaurant lighting was dimmed and gave a more intimate /bar environment. I think the ac was broken here because it was very warm and they had fans going on around the room. I think this place would be good for someone who is prefers an American fusion cuisine that leans heavily on the western style dishes. The fusion elements were cute but I still left unsatisfied but still full. We did not park. We walked here right from the river walk. Not a bad place to go if you arrive in town after 9 pm.

We had a large party of nine and we waited about ten minutes that was great timing. The restaurant offers a full bar with some crafted cocktails. We stated off with some Crispy onion rings which were a perfect start fresh and hot perfectly coated deliciousness. We all ordered meals including steak and shrimp cooked perfectly and seasoned perfectly paired with loaded mashed which was enough for two. Two of us opted for the chicken fried steak. Seasoned and fried to a crisp golden with white gravy and a large heap of skin on mashed that were creamy and delicious. One fried shrimp platter hot and good. One fried catfish which was also prepared perfectly paired with cocktail sauce but they added on the tartar sauce. One kid had sirloin and mashed and she finished the entire steak. One chicken fried chicken which was also good. The portion sizes are generous , hot and fresh. We paired our meal with a few bar cocktails including old fashioned , martini , and margarine tossed in a few beers and we had a time. We weren't rush or slow to get service. All in all we enjoyed the meal , the vibe is good. When weather cooperates they have some outdoor seating options as well. Try it for yourself ! All in was 274.00 before gratuity for nine people and drinks. Good value !
