The setting alone is beautiful, and as boats would pass by along the river, people were out celebrating and it made the whole experience feel really lively and fun. Service was great from the start, very welcoming and attentive without being over the top. The food did not disappoint either. We shared the red snapper and a steak cooked medium, and both were done perfectly. Everything came out fresh, flavorful, and exactly how we ordered it. Overall, just a really nice dinner experience. The food was overall delicious. Bacon wrapped shrimp and the bread pudding were my favorite. The steak was perfectly cooked. Two complaints though: The shrimp cocktail needs more sauce. We started with the sticky burnt ends ... super deep flavors of a sticky, dark sauce. We had the braised ribs in grits. No knife needed ... pull apart good. The grits had a good consistency but not much flavor. The asparagus was cooked perfectly but again no flavoring other than a large amount of peppercorns. Made a reservation on a Friday night. Definitely recommend having a reservation as wait times can get up to an hour or more. It's a popular spot so plan ahead! Ambiance and service were great. It's right on the riverwalk so sitting outside was pleasant. The steak was good, but honestly the star of the show was the FRIED OYSTERS! Man I would go back JUST for those. Came to celebrate my husbands birthday at Brenner's last night. Man were we impressed, the food was delicious, the service was amazing and the ambiance was spectacular. Our server was so attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu and their specials. He gave great recommendations on food as well as what drinks to pair our entrees with. You have a lot of choices on the riverwalk, it seems big corporate names are starting to take over. I was looking for something more local. Brenner's has a beautiful dining room, white tablecloth and brick walls. This place feels like an old school steakhouse for sure. The folks choosing to sit outside on the patio were dressed pretty casually, as you went upstairs the tables seemed to get more "formal" and folks were dressed up a bit more. The wife and I split the Wagyu beef appetizer. It is served in somewhat thin slices, served raw with a hot stone so you can cook it to your desired doneness right at the table. Fancy touch for sure, they bring a variety of sauces and pickled onion. This was a fantastic appetizer and honestly I thought a good value. If you've ever wanted to try Japanese Wagyu, this is your best introduction for the price you are going to find. I also chose a lobster bisque as an appetizer. This had a very good flavor, and they didn't skimp on the lobster. Unfortunately, the lobster was in a couple big chunks. It would have been nice to have been cut up a little as it's awkward trying to cut up lobster with a spoon. I'm not going to complain too much about a big chunk of lobster though - even though I did get a piece of shell in there too. My steak was well prepared, and well seasoned. I ordered a NY Strip and was very satisfied. While I was happy with the flavor and the correct cook, I think they need to be just a little more picky with the quality of the cuts they serve. No gristle or anything like that, but a little more tough than I was hoping for and honestly a bit more of the hard/chewy fat that I'm aware you will always find on the side of a strip, but prefer some of that be trimmed. All in all, I'm just being super picky, because next time I'm in town, I'm very likely to choose Brenner's again. We had a fantastic time and I like to feel I got what I paid for. I made a reservation a few weeks ahead for Mothers day to make sure we got a seat. We arrived about 10 minutes early to our reservation and we were sat promptly. We were given the choice of seating so we chose to sit outside on the balcony since it was a perfect day. We were greeted right away by our waitress and she explained the menu to us and also gave us the specials for the day. She offered us drinks but we were not drinking that day so she offered us some mocktails and we chose the Watermelon mint troubadour! Awesome drink, great tasting and refreshing! So good we both ordered two! We ordered a few appetizers and the first to arrive was the crab cake! It was all crab and no cake! Perfectly cooked and assembled! Second to arrive was the A5 Japanese Wagyu and the HOT stone! It def grabbed the attention of the other patrons as we cooked it at the table! Once done the steak was so flavorful and tender and the pairing sauces were perfect! For entrees my wife ordered the 6 Oz. American Wagyu Filet Oscar topped which also came with asparagus, and she ordered a side of augratin potatoes. The steak was perfectly cooked and tender enough to cut with a spoon the Oscar topping tasty and all crab! The potatoes hot creamy and so cheesy! I ordered the Miso Glazed Sea Bass with wok style broccolini, and sticky rice! The fish was so thick and flakey and cooked to perfection! The sauce and veggies were sweet, smokey and just yum! We also ordered 1/2lb of the King Crab legs and they were pre-cut opened up and full of butter so delish! For dessert we took recommendation of our waitress and got the special it was a Raspberry chocolate ganache thingy that was out of this world! It was a pricey lunch but it was all so worth it for everything to be perfect for my wife's special day. We decided to try Brenner's because we were tired of the typical Foods during Fiesta and were hoping for a more upscale dining experience. Unfortunately, the visit was disappointing and not worth the price. The food did not live up to our expectations, and the service was even worse. Our server was overbearing and at times borderline rude. One person in our group has mobility issues and clearly asked the sever multiple times not to be touched or assisted while transferring from their mobility device to a chair. Despite this, the server insisted on helping, ignoring the guest's repeated requests. The guest who is typically, quiet and reserved nearly yelled, I asked you not to help me. We ordered the Wagyu porterhouse, but one person in our party specifically said they didn't care for Wagyu due to its high fat content. The server questioned their preference, basically telling them what they were saying was wrong. It came across as argumentative and rude. Causing the guests at the table to feel uncomfortable. When the steak was served, that same guest was given the fattiest pieces. It felt deliberate, passive-aggressive and unnecessary. Although they chose not to make a scene, they made it clear to the others at the table they would not return to Brenner's. Why spend hundreds of dollars to be disrespected? If we were looking for intentionally poor service, we could've gone to Dick's on the Riverwalk and at least had a laugh about it. Instead, we chose what we thought would be a refined, high-end experience --and were let down. If you're on the San Antonio Riverwalk and looking for a decent steakhouse, I recommend crossing the Riverwalk to the one across from Brenner's. The food is just as good, and you won't be mistreated. read more

I don't mind paying for exceptional dining, but I do mind spending $850 on an experience that falls far below the standards of a premier steakhouse. We were initially offered only bar or patio seating. While I understand restaurants have seating policies, it was frustrating to see other guests dressed just as casually--or even more casually--seated in the main dining room. Throughout the evening, we saw sleeveless shirts, flip-flops, swim shorts, and children playing on the stairs. This inconsistency left us questioning the policy and stuck at a cramped table where our meal barely fit. We ordered oysters, crab cakes, wagyu appetizers, a $175 porterhouse, salmon, shrimp, and other entrées. The table became so crowded that we had to constantly shuffle dishes just to make space. The $100 sirloin, ordered medium-rare, was undercooked and ultimately sent back after much of it went uneaten. What stood out most wasn't the mistake--it was that no one from the staff or management asked why it was being returned or checked on our table afterward. At this price point, that level of follow-up should be standard. The biggest disappointment was the lack of product knowledge. I asked whether the beef was dry-aged, where it was sourced, and how it was prepared--our server couldn't answer any of those questions. When I inquired if the steak was prepared sous vide, I had to explain the technique myself. The kitchen's follow-up--asking if I meant the steak had been frozen--was baffling for a restaurant charging premium steakhouse prices. Despite an $850 check, not once did a manager visit our table to inquire about our meal or address the issues we encountered. Service was also rushed, as if turning the table was more important than creating a memorable dining experience. What made this even more disappointing was that just two days earlier, we dined at F.X. Buckley in Dublin, where the difference was remarkable. Every question about the beef was answered confidently, the staff understood their product, the steaks were perfectly executed, and the hospitality matched the price. Premium prices create premium expectations. Unfortunately, Brenner's delivered neither the food nor the service worthy of an $850 dining experience. read more

Visited this location with my wife while vacationing at the Riverwalk for a weekend trip. This was a short walk from our hotel so can't comment on parking, but the food was top notch. I started with a Carajilo to drink. They made it table side and was quite entertaining. I then had my lobster bisque, perfectly delicious, nice and creamy with the right amount of lobster pieces. Topped it off with the 16 oz ribeye that was like butter, just melted in my mouth. My wife and I shared the Parmesan fries which were more like large potato wedges and equally delicious with a crispy outside and extremely taste sauce. My husband and I were visiting San Antonio for the first time this weekend. We consider ourselves foodies and wanted a great steakhouse experience. Brenner's was phenomenal. Every bite was beautifully executed. The cuts of meat are actually curated from local sources. My husband had the ribeye with a special tallow butter and it was decadent. I had the fillet with the cognac peppercorn sauce which gave wonderful flavor to the meat. The cocktails and wine list were excellent. But the attention to customer experience was second to none! We made a reservation and we were excited to try Brenner's for the last day of restaurant weeks. We sat at our table for 11 minutes before we were greeted. Our server did apologize but it then took awhile to get our drinks. The passion fruit mojito was good but a tad too sweet for me. We asked about restaurant weeks menu and were informed they didn't have that menu anymore though we weren't informed prior when we made the reservation. We made the most of it and enjoyed the ambiance though it was very hot on the patio. We ordered the tuna poke tacos and crab & lobster rolls to start. Both were delicious though the tuna could have been fresher; the taste was lacking. We also order the sliced Japanese A5 wagyu which you cook on a hot stone. It's served with 4 sauces that you really don't need but I recommend the truffle mustard. The wagyu is so good by itself without sauce. Our miso sea bass came out burned and crispy which we sent back. They prepared another and this one was good. We had the Creme brûlée which tasted off and I am a connoisseur of my favorite dessert. All in all, service was lacking and the food wasn't worth the price. I visited this restaurant from out out of town last night (10/15). I wanted to select a nice place for my partner's birthday. To start positively, the location was beautiful and the hostesses were very friendly and helpful. We arrived about 20 minutes early for our reservation and weren't expecting at all to be accommodated prior to that but they worked very hard to make sure we had a table ready as soon as they were able. Also the bartender was very friendly and made great drinks. When it was time for us to be seated we were led to the upstairs area where there was formal dining room. It was very very loud! It was extremely hard to have a conversation with our group of five people as there were many competing tables all around us. The service was very slow and our server talked a million miles a minute! I am all for urgency but he was talking way too fast. He shared with us that he used to be an Auctioneer and that was just how he talked. We gave him feedback to slow down so we could hear and understand him, especially since it was so loud in the restaurant but he didn't really accommodate that. The wait time between the time we sat down and got our drinks ordered was very long. He didn't offer an apology for the delayed service and even when we ordered our apps and food the wait was incredibly long. When it came time to pay the bill, we waited forever to get our check and then once we paid he didn't even say thank you for dining with us or anything he just took our checks and left . On July 3rd, this past Saturday I was waiting for my friends to arrive when a server who was a woman with short black hair started racially profiling this young boy waiting outside the restaurant for his parents to pick him up. I noticed how passive aggressive she was acting when this young boy was clearly minding his business, she was purely judging him based off the color of his skin because he's a person of color. Stating he would "scare away customers" and then got one of the line cooks to come outside to startle and scare him away. I took my husband here for his birthday, expecting a special evening like we've experienced at other high-end steakhouses. Instead, no one even acknowledged his birthday despite it being on the reservation. We ordered the bread service, crab cake, 16oz ribeye, Brussels sprouts, creamed spinach, and a bottle of wine. The only thing worth it was the bread. The ribeye was overcooked and lacked flavor, the sides were bland, and the crab cake was forgettable. To make things worse, there were large horseflies flying around the restaurant. One even landed in my water. The waitress took my glass but offered no real apology--just blamed the flies on people coming through the door, as if that made it acceptable. For the price and the reputation, this entire experience was far below expectations. Brenner's on the River Walk might be the best steakhouse in the river walk area! I usually don't tend to dine anywhere at the River Walk because most of the restaurant in there are tourist traps with overpriced food. However, after reading all the amazing reviews from Brenner's I decided to give this restaurant a chance. I came here on a weekday in the evening and was able to find seating without a reservation. The building itself is a work of art and love the details in their outdoor patio. To start, we tried the steak tartar which is wagyu beef in brioche with black garlic aioli. The wagyu melted in your mouth and loved how to black garlic aioli was subtled and not very overwhelming. As a main dish I decided to go with the center cut filet mignon with the port wine demi-glace. The meat was absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. The port wine was good, but I think I could've done it without it. Also, the port wine was enough to share between two people, so if someone else in your party wants to try it there is no need to order a second one. For sides we tried the roasted mushroom and au gratin potatoes. Both of them were absolutely delicious and so filling! Last but not least, the service at the restaurant was outstanding. Our waiter explained all the menu and constantly kept checking on us. They also had someone playing in the piano who was amazing. Overall a five stars experience and would 100% come back. read more

This is a great restaurant nestled alongside the San Antonio River-walk. They have a mixture of indoor and outdoor seating; some right on the banks of the canal. We dined here last week (Dec 2024) and enjoyed the gorgeous views of the canal which was lit up with tons of colorful lights and holiday decor. We found the service to be decent and on par with other riverwalk restaurants: friendly and semi-attentive. The food was amazing. Our server was attentive and answered all of our questions. Two couples shared the special, 8 Oz filet mignon with an 8 oz lobster tail. Other couple shared the crab cakes with shrimp. This is a lovely restaurant on the Riverwalk with Texas-size portions, and excellent service by our server, Destiny. We love how two people can split orders, as we would never be able to eat everything. The quail in a maple syrup glaze was fantastic; the lobster bisque had big chunks of lobster; the lamb chop was juicy; and the mushroom sides boasted three types of mushrooms. Darling Destiny brought us a beautiful crème Brulé for dessert with a candle to celebrate our anniversary. It was the perfect evening, watching the boats go by and people-watching. read more
