Dr.Gerrity and the BCV Team are extraordinary! The fur kids have been coming to Dr.G for at least a decade and we could not dream of a better Primary Veterinarian. We have been in for a looong list of things that consist of general routine check-ups, emergency type situations, orthopedic issues, eye issues, senior issues, and treatment for terminal diseases and end of life comfort care. I feel more than confident in saying, the BCV Team can truly handle any and every situation with extreme professionalism and a heartfelt and genuine care for your "kid". In the rare event that another physician can provide better expertise, Dr.G will gladly refer you out to only the best and she will track the status of your fur kid every step of the way. I have received followups from Dr.G at 10pm and voicemails at 1:30am, just to personally provide a status update and help put "mom" at ease. read more

Went in to buy some can food there. Four assistants but not one could get their butt of the chair to help me find it. No variety cases. Being hit with an insane total I found out that if I use the single cans sitting there (in a mess) to make up a case with several flavors I get charged the single can price. Can price for a small can one flavor case is $2.37. Putting them together myself for more than one flavor it goes up to $2.79 each. I changed and chose two cases / single flavors. $4.11 extra for paying with my card. Checked with the person I was buying for and she was horrified too at their extortionate prices. Decided to return the cans - unopened cases bought two hours earlier - and they made like they were doing me a huge favor. They are not returning the card processing fee. They charged me immediately but I have to wait 3-5 business DAYS for my refund. Dr Gerrity makes $8.3 million a year and yet apparently still has to extort naive customers. Because we are blind and easy prey when it comes to our pets. The vet assistants were all very nice and polite and had ABSOLUTELY NO interest in making ANYTHING RIGHT. The woman is a narcissist. Chaotic communication with front desk - no one takes responsibility for providing incorrect information. Made a difficult situation even worse. A lot of yelling, a lot of guilt tripping, misgendering our pet (details matter correct? males and females have different parts and metabolize differently) a lot of unnecessary medication shoved down our throats when there are other priorities. I'm not sure how they've gotten away with this type of behaviour. Would not recommend. read more

Going on 23 years of great care for our feline friends with Dr. Garrity and her team. We adopted a stray who was getting quite old and sick. She made a monthly visit to the vet for a vitamin B shot and some extra care. This past week she died naturally, at home, purring until the end. Getting this card with handwritten notes inside means so very much. Velocité had a ... uh ... "personality" and reading the little notes that referenced her visits was a reminder about why I really like Boulder Creek Vet. This review is very late as my bulldog Chunkymonkey has since passed away, but I wanted to leave a review as I realized I never did. My sweet guy was EXTREMELY medically complicated and had just about every health problem imaginable, but I was able to board him here and they took very good care of him -which wasn't easy. This vet office is awesome! We were struggling with a cat in heat, they helped with some tips and supplements that helped calm her while we waited until she could get spayed. just now NEW I am so thankful for Dr. Gerrity and Dr. Mottishaw! Dr. G has been wonderful with my new kitten. My biggest thanks goes to Dr. M and the technicians who helped with my 9 year old. She was sick and went to the ER, ( they were also helpful) but I was told that with her anxiety and slight aggression, to do blood work/urinalysis and other testing, she would likely need to be fully sedated. Thanks to Dr. M and friends patience and willingness, they were able to do ALL of that WITHOUT sedation. Was it overly easy, no. But with me also being able to be in the room to calm my baby with my voice and their teamwork together, they got it done with VERY minimal stress to my little girl. I couldn't be more grateful for the help they provided. Especially when I would have been willing to sedate, but I wouldn't have been able to afford Christmas lol. This isn't to say that your companions wouldn't have to be sedated, it's case by case, but it seems that they aren't going to suggest it unless absolutely necessary, considering the ER Dr. said that my girl would have had to be. You cannot find better than Dr. Gerrity in my opinion. She works incredibly hard, takes time for each pet and cares for her clients as well. We've been coming there for many years with many pets. The older woman I think she's a tech was very rude and acting like my puppy (on a leash) was going to eat her because he growled since she was standing over him, moving fast and talking loudly and rudely to me. If you work with animals I think you should have some compassion and empathy especially for scared puppies who had never been to this vet. Felt like sales over care. Got guilted into $1000 of tests when I came for a quick follow up from a surgery at a specialist. I didn't want to drive all the way back over hill and needed a vet to look at surgery site for the 2 week follow up. Was told my animal could be very Ill and die and that they would do all these tests if it was their animal. I was clear I had zero money and would be spending my rent money. $1000 later my cat was perfectly fine, was only stressed out day of surgery and had high blood sugar:) After that visit my sweet playful cat has not been the same. It completely stressed him out and was too much after the surgery ordeal. My lap cat is gone, no more sleeping with me only sleeps in the closet, and he is no longer affectionate. It's been 6 months. Thanks for the advice on medical care to make money from a poor person, when all he needed was a simple glucose test. read more

Had issues with the staff and choice of veterinary Dr.s from the beginning. I took my two dogs in for one of them is overweight and has been a concern for me and after three visits they STILL have not addressed it. Matter of fact the owner no less continues to call my girl dog a boy... ah the lack of attention to detail is rampant. The majority of the staff focus on the "add on sale", not the welfare of the animals from what I went through. Took my dog for a concern on her paw, wanted diagnosis fee to inspect it. Took to a Vet down a town or too and without a charge looked and told me exactly what it was. They charge to give your pets shots.. Was told my dog needed expensive tests and everything under the sun except a diet plan. Asked for a RX for my dogs pain, you got it, few plus attitude. After a year of paying their padded medication I was told I would need to get vet to look at before they would fill my meds needs. Poor service, poor quality of service in my eyes and the lack of passion for other the mighty dollar has me never returning and you would be smart to avoid as well read more

These people admitted they damaged my best friend, my service dog while taking x-rays, saying "Sorry but we made her legs worse" (she had very painful arthritis and they forced her legs apart for one x-ray, she expressed pain, and they took two more views after that) and when I rushed in to pick her up, at first they said they would get her and give her to me. 20 mins later, they still had not brought her out. I asked if they were holding her hostage - they did not disagree. They would not give her back unless their obscene bill was paid in full. They had no legal right to do this and caused my dog so much distress and agony that she did not recover - I had to put down my best friend three days later. Friendly knowledgeable staff, professional caring care. Dr. Gerrity has been in practice here for a long time and knows from personal experience as well as professional what she's dealing with. She is caring and always lets you know what the situation is and what your options are, as well as what the cost is. I've been taking my cats to her for over 30 years, and have boarded them many times. During the CZU fire, she took all the animals in her care to safety. The staff are great and always helpful. I especially liked the late open hours when I was working, so I could get home from Santa Clara and still be able to bring my cats in if I needed to. read more

I called one evening with a small concern about my dog. They told me to go to emergency. The problem was not an emergency, it was closing time and they just did not want to help me. I then spoke to another vet's office who told me to watch the problem overnight. Gave them a second chance this past weekend. Right when you walk in you are facing the counter. There were about 3-4 people sitting right there when I walked in. Not one person said anything to me. Not one single word. It was very awkward, as they all looked up at me when I walked in. If I could give negative stars I would. I just spent over an hour there getting a pre travel vet exam for my dog. I spent an hour and 15 minutes in the exam room being repeatedly yelled at by the vet because the vet was convinced I didn't know what I needed and was not willing to fill out the form. I frequently travel with my dog to the same location, and I actually do know what I need. I have never been treated so badly. There was absolutely no excuse for it. To add insult to injury, they changed me more than twice what I normally pay for a pre flight exam. If you like being treated badly and overcharged then this is the place for you. read more

I can not praise the staff and doctors at BC Vet enough. Not only are they responsible for helping us maintain the health and well being of our dogs on an ongoing basis over the years, during this time when our mountain have burned they have been available 24/7 to assist pet owners. Dr Gerrity and her staff were also evac'ed but that did not stop them. Even with their homes in peril or, sadly destroyed in one case, they took care of their patients, answered calls, arranged for medications with other local animal hospitals provided food for the displaced, insured records and perscriptions were available to send to alternate temporary doctors. All this with smiles and kind and caring words and attitudes. I could literally write a book about their heroic efforts and dedication. Thank you Dr. G! This wasn't even our specific vet, but we recently moved closer & when our dog was choking on a plant/stickers she ate - we rushed over on a Saturday with no appointment and the stars aligned that there was a cancellation and we got in. They helped save our doggie and called to check on her the next day too. We wish they took CareCredit, but it's okay - saving our dog was more important :) thank you!! read more

Being new to the area it was important to find a vet, right off, we could trust. That was back in May. Prior to this morning we had not found one. Our first visit to Boulder Creek Veterinary found pleasant people but as it turns out, they, apparently nailed the upselling the business piece of the industry. Two vaccinations, unnecessary vaccinations, were administered without my wife's knowledge. $60. "Wanna supersize that?" In a call to the office manager it was explained the attending doctor was no longer there. Surprise! No concession. read more

I want to start this off by saying that the vet techs and the girls working in the front of this office are great, kind and very helpful. The Vets, however, are not. I have never ever "yelped" before but with some many options in the area, I want to save people some time irritation. I called in yesterday morning to get some lab work done that my vet does not do at his clinic. They gave me an appointment and quoted a price for the fecal test that I was asking about. I explained carefully that I see another vet and I only wished to have the lab work done and was quoted 60 dollars. This seemed fine and I agreed and brought my dog in. We came early as suggested and waited over 45 minutes to see the doctor. She came in and proceeded to be condescending and passive aggressive regarding the care that we are receiving from another vet in the area. Going as far as to insult me indirectly by saying that if I cared about my pet instead of just trying to "get her into" puppy classes I should really do all the tests and things that they wanted me to do and pay for. She then left the room and returned with a bill for 200 dollars. I was told over the phone that the bill would be 60 and this test wasn't even administered, she then proceeded to angrily cross off the things that I didn't want/need/ or ask for. I explained that I had not asked for a "clinic visitor checkup" (I had just had one with my vet two days prior as I had explained on the phone). She grabbed the paper out of my hands and went out to yell at or accuse the person who had spoken to me on the phone. This woman (from the front desk) came in and apologized a few moments later and said that it was a misunderstanding and that she was sorry and I should just pay for the test, which I did and left (still needed to bring in a sample). I got a voicemail several hours later that said that the front desk had again, misunderstood the vet and I was responsible to pay for both the exam and the tests and that they switched the authorization to be for the medical exam and not the fecal test and I could pay the remaining balance and for the test when I picked it up. I really didn't understand how they could administer a charge without asking me and was naturally a little upset. I called the clinic the next day and was called back by the owner who started off by listening before interjecting her opinion that I was unaware of how vet practices work (I guess that is why I am not a vet). She also insinuated that I was distracted by my child as a fault (I guess that happens when you make someone with a two year old and a puppy wait almost an hour after their appointment time.) She then told me that the Doctor that I am seeing routinely does things that they don't agree with. Fine, but not necessarily my experience, nor very professional. My problem was the way I was treated and the miscommunication(s). If I was given the full information either on the phone or in the clinic while I was waiting before the services were offered, I would have gone elsewhere. She offered to honor a deal that I had seen online for another clinic but only after sarcastically saying that she had never seen anything like it in Santa Cruz county as if I was lying about it. https://vcahospitals.com/santa-cruz/services (this is the link to the page) I suggested that she might be a little less hostile with people considering it was such a small community and her website is already filled with a lot of negative reviews and she said I should look at her Google Page. She asked me how long I had been in the area and I guess 8 years was nothing compared to her 40. When she offered to do the test for the discounted rate she then said in a threatening way that if it was negative I would need them. I decided to opt out of it because I think that I can find people who are kinder and more understanding to look after my pet, who I care for quite well. She then finished the conversation with a jab that I was exactly the kind of patient who belonged at the clinic that we go to. Luckily, I take that as a compliment. So I guess if you want to be fear mongered, threatened and overcharged and made to feel like it is your fault; this is the perfect place. I, for one am happy where I am and would discourage anyone from using this clinic. read more

We just recently adopted an amazing dog from Salinas Animal shelter that obtained kennel cough. We took Gunner (Australian Shepherd) there for a check up since he was new to us and to ask about the kennel cough. Our vet was Dr Arman Behboud who was nothing short of amazing and helpful! Being our first time there I didn't know what to expect and was completely impressed with their whole team. They earned our business and Gunner now had a new local vet !! 12/9/17 update Finally got to meet Dr Gerrity and she was amazing . We have 3 dogs and wife took the youngest pup to get fixed out at boulder creek to save a couple hundred $.. Long story short pup started coughing 6 days after the surgery.. We live on a ranch and our dogs only see their cousins when they come to visit (which they haven't in months) by the next week all my dogs have kennel cough.. The vet claimed they haven't had a positive case in the facility in years but when my wife took my pup in after is started coughing they wanted to do X-rays (took our pup with kennel cough inside the facility) asked for compensation for my other dogs who got sick but they claimed their was no way they infected our dogs.. They even told my wife their was a break out in the valley.. I will never go back.. People will say / do anything to cover themselves.. Fuck this place read more

We have experienced nothing but compassion, kindness, expert, thorough and practical advice on how to best provide care for all of them. Yes, it is not going to be the least expensive option, but I've never felt that I wasn't aware of the cost prior to asking to have work done. Dr. Gerrity and her staff have saved our pets several times, and let us know when it's been time to make compassionate choices. They've celebrated with us, done countless hours of research and house calls, and cried with us. As someone who grew up in a family full of DVMs, this is the real deal and an incredible option to have in our town. read more

I grew up in this town, and had brought multiple pets here since I was young to Dr. Gerrity. I moved home 3 1/2 years ago, and have been back three times, and after the most recent instance, will never be back. I brought my cat in because he was sneezing... and after $200 with a 5 minute vet visit with their younger vet got sent home with horrible flavored liquid antibiotics. I would have rather given him pills which he is good at taking than a cherry flavored liquid. I also mentioned to the vet herself AND the tech he had worms, and I needed de-wormer, as well as the vet telling me she would write me a script for a oral flea medication, as he had minor flea dirt and my other cat is extremely allergic to any topical meds. No dice, on either. Glad I paid for that exam... for five minutes of someone's time in a surgery/storage area/exam room. I hadn't taken my larger dog to them, because he had numerous surgical issues and xrays that I felt were better suited for a clinic with digital capabilities, specialists, and better surgical suites. But when everything was failing at once, the last thing I wanted to do was to have to have him drive in a car for hours... so I called, in tears, to Euthanize my best friend, with a vet that I had known since childhood. I called and explained exactly what was going on, so they would be aware of the situation and I would have an appointment and not have him wait or be uncomfortable. I was in Vet Medicine for FIVE YEARS and never had I treated someone who was putting their beloved pet to sleep so badly. The receptionist (and technician) asked if he was NEUTERED upon my arrival,made me wait in the lobby holding up his hips so he wouldn't collapse while a customer kept trying to tell me how pretty he was and talk to me and the vet about shocking bark collars for her dog. When I finally did get into a room with him, Dr. Gerrity put me through twenty minutes of explaining what I had been through (two vets and three thousand dollars of bloodwork, X-rays, and surgeries in the last two years alone) and making him painfully stand to EXAMINE him. When she finally was satisfied I got the line "Well, I guess you've already DECIDED what to do, huh?" before finally putting my sweet boy to rest. I get out to pay the bill, and not only did they CHARGE me for an exam I never wanted, needed, or asked for, but when his ashes were finally ready they came in a box I did not want and made sure to ask for him NOT to be returned that way, but they called my MOM's house, instead of the number I was asked for THREE TIMES. I will NEVER be back. In all my times working in clinics myself, nevertheless bringing my pets to multiple vets all over the world, have I been treated so callously at such a sensitive time. read more

We came to Boulder Creek Vet, being new to the area. While we found the staff wonderful, we could not get past the horrible business practices. As others have mentioned we were guilted and scared into unnecessary procedures (we researched later, but in the moment, how could we jeapordize our babies?). After a few experiences, we checked out Felton Vet, and found them to be considerate, warm, and very compassionate with our terminally ill dog -and did not exploit our emotions for cash. Lastly, when we tried to transfer our records, I was told I had to pick them up, and charged $15.40 for 14 photocopies, as they would not release the originals. Other vet hospitals faxed copies to another vet with no charge. It was insulting. Never again. read more

My experience with this Veterinary practice was negative. I brought my dog in because I thought he was panting alot. The head veterinarian suggested a HeartWorm test, so I gave permission with asking what the fee's would be. I was quoted a price. A solid price, I thought. Long story short, My invoice ended up being about $80.00 dollars MORE than what I was quoted in the first place! The test was negative by the way. I asked what the reason for the "other fee's", it was explained to me that there are EXTRA charges for syringes, tubing etc.... My temper flared because I felt taken advantage of, I told the head Vet and her staff it would be better business practice to let people know EXACTLY what the fee's will be during a visit...... Including the ridiculous "SYRINGE / Tube Fee's!" which SHOULD be included with the blood work... RIGHT !?? NEVER will I go to this clinic again! I will drive over the hill the next time my animals need care. read more

Not a great first impression. I can only speak for the front office as I only ran in to grab cat food for some ferals in their "pet store.". I gave a friendly "hello" to one of the front office staff (dark hair and glasses) who kept a pill face and did not acknowledge me as she walked past. Maybe she was having a bad day, but the front office was empty, not a soul and no cars in the parking lot so it didn't seem like a hectic time. You would think since Ms GrumpBunny must interact in a customer-facing business, she would have been better trained. Having three indoor cats of my own, I would drive farther as I see other vet offices in the area have much better reviews overall. I did like seeing the friendly resident office cats "assisting" at the front desk. I suppose they are the PR ambassadors. Will I patron there again? Probably not unless I have absolutely no time to drive farther. read more

I took the puppy I just adopted from the animal shelter for her free wellness exam. Everyone in the office was friendly and professional. Dr. Gerrity is a gem. I learned a lot about caring for a puppy -- it's been a long time since I had a litt one to look after. We'll be taking advantage of the Saturday vaccination clinic, too. I moved to Boulder Creek 11 years ago with a dog and two cats. As I began my search for a new veterinarian who would be closer to home, I came here. The reviews for BC Vet on Yelp were honestly a little disheartening. But, as I read, I realized that many of the reviews here had to do with cost. Let me tell you, having the thorough, thoughtful, personal care that Dr. Garrity and her staff give is worth the cost a thousand times over. I have always been given every option available, and never ever been judged for any choices I have made for my pets. We have now taken our dog, and a total of 11 cats (if you count the litter we fostered) to BC Vet. Dr. Garrity is an expert in her field, but will admit if she needs to do more research into something, and will call you back with the information she gains. She is incredibly thorough, which I love. She makes sure that she is giving the best, and most current advice she can. This kind of care takes time, which is going to cost a pet owner money. To address some other concerns I have seen in these reviews, there have been several Veterinarians over the last 11 years who have worked at BC Vet alongside Dr. Garrity. None of them have come close to her, and a couple have downright pissed me off, until Dr. Koehorst. I really like her, and hope she sticks around. On a more personal note: while we were evacuated due to the CZU fire last year, our 13 year old lab/mastiff mix had been going downhill. After about 2 weeks of evacuation, we realized he just wasn't going to make it much longer. He was in diapers, started passing blood, and was absolutely miserable. Talk about a stressful situation. I reached out to BC Vet via Facebook messenger to ask if Kathie had any recommendations of where to take him. She let us know that she had brought medications with her just in case, and would COME TO US at my parents house in Watsonville to help with the transition. (I'm crying while I write this). We were all fire evacuees, in the middle of a Covid Pandemic, and this woman and two of her techs (who were with her in a hotel) came out gloved and masked to help our beloved pup cross the rainbow bridge. It was one of the kindest gestures I have experienced in my life, and something I will be eternally grateful for. Was this because we have developed a trusting relationship over the past 11 years? Sure, but this is the type dedication I have seen out of the staff at BC Vet since the beginning. The techs that came along had actually been with the practice since I started going there, which says something itself. They care about their community, their clients, their and their pets. Dr. Garrity, in particular, is a gem in her field, a real professional, and obviously very dedicated to the work she does. We are lucky to have this vet clinic in our little town, and I like it enough that I would travel here if I moved anywhere else in Santa Cruz County. read more

I came in because my dog needed cat tails removed from his paws. After 2 hours later (mainly waiting for the vet even though I had an appointment), I was told they wanted to do immediate surgery on his teeth, feet, and ears which the bill would be $1700. They also let me know how BAD of a dog mom I've been for letting him get SO BAD and to bring him in the next morning for surgery. I disagreed and I've now taken my dog to TWO different vets and BOTH said they see NO signs to have ANY sort of surgery for ANYTHING. I'm still in shock this vet would want to put my 7 year old dog under anesthesia and do surgery when he doesn't need it. read more

I am really surprised by how mean people are on here. I have been nothing but happy with Dr Garrity. It is very clear that she really knows her stuff and always has a bunch of different options for me She is NOT all about money, but rather finding the best option for my pet. I've been here probably 5 times now and, every single time, Dr Garrity has given me three options for each scenario my dog is in (the first one consists of the cheapest options that are absolutely necessary for my dog, the average options that include necessary and also a little more caution, and then the most expensive options if I want to be extra cautious). Each time she has told me that the first option is completely acceptable. How is this being cheap? If you end up having a giant bill, that is your own fault for not asking about the cheapest options necessary. I know for a fact that Dr Garrity gives plenty of options and really does want to help. I will continue to go here and only have good things to say about this place. read more

Dr. Gerrity is great, a well educated Vet. (U.C. Davis). We are lucky to have the peace of mind we have with our smart and knowledgeable veterinarian in our small town of Boulder Creek. She understands the unique needs of domestic animals living in the mountains. We have every confidence in her and her great staff. I am looking forward to her completing the renovations on her building. As for pricing, you call it expensive and high pressure, I call it the cost of doing business and advice as to how to care for my pets...I feel I am the final decision maker on what I will spend on health care for my pets. I go to the Vet for the best advice on how to care for them ..If I choose not to take advantage of the advice so be it....don't blame the veterinarian.
